This is the second Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop location I've tried in Arizona. The other was in Scottsdale, where they have two locations. They are growing in the Phoenix area and this seems to be a fairly new location. I tried the Cali Tuna sandwich. I decided to pick and choose my toppings, since I did not want onions or tomatoes. They do have a garlic sauce option, which sounds intriguing. I might try that on the side next time. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff made sure to describe all of the available options for toppings and cheeses. I knew that I wanted the Dutch Crunch bread. It's a standard for me whenever I go to a Mr. Pickle's. I would recommend that anyone give it a try, unless you're not a fan of crusty bread. My sandwich was huge! I took half home to eat for dinner. I really liked the strawberry watermelon lemonade. It was flavorful and refreshing. I'm told that they have a new app coming out soon! I will be sure to sign up for it so I can earn rewards for my purchases.

It's still in it's original building, with the paint fading softly all around the edges of the building. Just as in the old tradition, they try to be a general market - but for a new generation. This is what is on their business card, "Baked goods, groceries, produce, beer, wine & beverages. Antiques, collectibles and furniture from the Old West & Mexico. Saddles, tack, spurs...oh, and of course, coffee". When I was there last, we left with a sack of homemade chipotle rolls, homemade granola, ice cream, 2 home grown organic avocados - and about an hour of entertainment for my mom as she ooo'd and aahh'd over the antique bookshelves holding stuff like Hormel chili in one row and stacks of wine in another. The flyer she gave my mom - who was oh so obviously new to the place, showed pastries, dog treats and deserts are coming soon. Of course, the girl working the counter is the daughter of the family that's owned it for the last 30 years or so. And she told me their semi-long term plans are to turn their "back room" that currently holds the antiques into a restaurant. This place is like no other spot I've ever been in Phoenix.
