This is a serve yourself, clear the table like a McDonalds. Requesting a tip upfront before receiving pizza and being self serving restaurant I found this over and above. Someone brings pizza to table when cooked. Otherwise it's on you. I spoke with the cashier about this and he said it was the owners thing. Seems like money grabbing to me to pay the bills. I think this will chill more customers than is worth it. Maybe not, maybe just me‍

Food and Drink: Mannnnn it has been over a decade since I had last this place and it brought back…read moreso many memories of my time in Mebane!! For dinner, I had the Johnson Club, onion rings, and sweet tea. The club was and still is one of the best club sandwiches I've ever had. The amount of protein is plentiful, and the addition of the egg puts this over the top. The restaurant is a bakery so the bread used for the sub is soft and fresh. The onion rings were hot, had the perfect amount of crisp and they were not soggy like other places I've been to. Overall, I left with nostalgia and I am definitely looking forward to coming back! Customer Service: Upon arrival, the waitresses welcomed me in and invited me to sit anywhere. I was promptly tended to and my waitress was soooooo friendly!!! It's the southern charm and politeness I miss the most about North Carolina and neighboring areas. Already knowing the sandwich I wanted, I took her advice between the fries and onion rings and she didn't steer me wrong! I appreciate her work ethic and making sure that everyone in the dining room had what they needed and helping a few others (some first timers!) decide on what they wanted. Ambiance: This place is casual, and intimate in a way. It's not a huge space but it's big enough for multiple groups to enjoy lunch or small families to have a sit-in dinner. I highly recommend this place as a stop on any commute between Charlotte and the Research Triangle Area.

Much like all of the reviews before me say, do not let the unassuming interior and exterior fool you, this spot has some delicious food. It was a hot September day, so we grabbed some chips & salsa, chips & guac, and a diet coke to cool off. They also have Mexican coke in the bottle, which is a nice treat. The guac was so fresh and flavored perfectly, I had to remind myself that I was sharing with another person so that I would not eat it all. Moving onto our entrees, I was really torn because the burgers look SO GOOD but I was really in the mood for tacos. I got an order of the shrimp tacos and my colleague got the burger that comes with chorizo on it. He raved about the burger so if this interests you, I think it is a good choice. His order also came with house made chips, which are always delicious. My tacos were fresh and had a crema on them. I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a great spot to stop in if you're nearby. I have gone there at least a half dozen times in the last few months. Brisket and pulled pork are really great. The cornbread muffins are fantastic. And, that succotash, which I had never had before, is absolutely, "reach across the table and slap grandma", fabulous. Really, I had never had succotash before. It looks like a mess, but wow, the tomatoes, corn, lima beans, and whatever else is in there, set my tastebuds on end! The hoppin john is great too, but the succotash! I don't usually like french fries with anything on them but salt or a bit of spicy rub, but whatever that crispy stuff is on the outside is very good. My only lament now is that they don't have Cheerwine on the fountain or in 20 oz bottles. But insofar as the Q goes, this is the real thing and it's done very well. Oh, and the sauces, they are great. I wish though that the hot was a bit hotter and maybe a bit more viscous. But I mix it with the house and its great. I do also love the mustard sauce. I mix that with the other two as well. Now that white sauce, it doesn't appeal to me. I've had it, but I'm from the midwest barbecue triangle, St Louis, Kansas City and Nashville where red sauce is king! Other than that, I can't say Knucklehead is better than a few other Q joints I frequent, but they have definately kicked up their game and are putting out food that is on par for great food that is what I see as competition for the other places in town. The two on the south side of 85/40 are okay for a quick hop of the highway and get back on. Neither is of the high quality Q that should be expected. Knucklehead and that other place (on the other side of the tracks) are real competition for each other. Neither though (bowls over) the other. The one think I do want to praise is that on my most recent visit a couple of days ago, I noticed their rating from the food inspector service was %100. A rating of 100 for any restaurant is very difficult to achieve. I rarely see a 100 rating. To me, a 100 rating tells me that they have taken to task getting things done in a manner of high quality. It means they are taking steps that put them into a mode that they keep their kitchen and food preperation on par as if it was my own kitchen.

My meal, the Charleston Crab Cakes, was really good too (I asked that they put the creamed corn on the side -- the crab cakes will come on top of the creamed corn if you don't make a special request). But when (not if) we return, I will be ordering the seafood pasta for sure because it was that good! A friend recommended the pork chops and the burgers. The ambience is quaint and the indoor dining space is very small and cozy. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived. I recommend making a reservation if you don't want to dine outdoors. It was January so too cold for us to eat outdoors because there is no heating and the overhead fans were on! The new owner has raised prices, reduced portion sizes, increased wait times for food readiness, and increased wait times for food ordering. Nearly all of the front-of-house staff has been replaced and there is a definite vibe of unrest when I walk in now (the few times that I still go there) Chip portions are bleak, the wraps are about two-thirds their previous size, and everything costs more... a recipe for disaster in my opinion. This was the ONE business in Mebane that needed absolutely nothing... it was turn key for any new owner and a guaranteed hit with the locals. Within a few months, the feedback from me and everyone else I've talked to is that it's now on the decline and we no longer recommend it to visitors, or family visiting.
