Hands down, the very best Mediterranean food I've ever had. So flavorful and delicious. The steak is tender and never over cooked. The chicken is seasoned expertly and pairs well with everything. And believe it or not, everything reheats really well the next day - which is good because their generous portions do not leave you wanting. My very favorite thing to order here (besides the combination plate obviously) is the falafel. It's always hot and fresh. Nothing compares to perfectly prepared falafel when you order it. If you do order a combination plate you get one on the side, but we always order more. Also, a small order of hummus and pitas is plenty for two people - maybe even four (especially when you're feeding tiny humans). Please, do yourself a favor and eat here. Regularly. This restaurant is a whole in the wall. The food is amazing. The location is perfect. The owner is great and all of the meat is zabiha Halal This place never disappoints me. Everything on the menu is awesome. The family platter is awesome call them 30 min ahead and they have the family platter for 10 ready. It has the following meats on a bed of rice with onions and tomatoes. The lamb Kabobs are awesome and juicy. The beef kabobs are perfectly cooked. The chicken tenders are not your normal tenders it's grilled chicken breast with spices. It is good. Chicken sharwma is nice mixed into the rice. They give a salad and pita bread. my family and I were excited to try this place for the first time! We are big fans of Mediterranean food! Well I was completely disappointed in the reception I received. I was in line waiting to order and the 2nd cashier a brunette stared at me a couple times without a word. Another middle eastern gentleman walked in behind me not only was he greeted and welcomed with a smile and his order was taken before mine!!! To be clear I was patient and to be disregarded as a customer who was attempting to support local business was disappointing!! I was completely ignored and the environment was unwelcoming!! I would give it zero stars if I could and will never visit this place again!!! I will not support that behavior and way of doing business and nor should anyone else! Pita Inn has never disappointed and there are other local Mediterranean food restaurants that appreciate 1st timers and repeat business! Not too long ago Wolfy's hot dogs in Lombard closed down. It was a hard place to make a left turn into from Roosevelt Road, they had somewhat strange hours closing around 8:00 and it was the third time the eatery occupying that lot had closed in around five years. A month or so ago a sign saying "Coming Soon, Middle Eastern Grill" popped up in the window of the former Wolfy's and I made a mental note to visit once they had opened. One day in driving by they appeared to be open so I made that difficult left turn into the parking lot and decided to stop in and give it a try. The new place is called Jerusalem Cafe and it is just as the coming soon sign described a Middle Eastern grill place. I went up to the counter and was greeted by an extremely friendly gentleman. Within about 30 seconds I had zero'ed in on the Shwarma sandwich I wanted to order, placed my order and was told to take a seat and they'd bring it out. It's worth noting that also in Lombard not terribly long ago a place called Shwarma express opened up and having ordered the exact same item there I waited around 20 minutes, so I sat down expecting a long wait and was pleasantly surprised when it came out in about 3 minutes. The shwarma sandwich here came on pita bread with tahini sauce, tomato and some other vegetables. It was a good flavor overall, the shwarma was nice and juicy, the tahini was a nice compliment and everything tasted great. The pita was soft yet held together well. The sandwich gets a recommendation from me for sure. Overall based on my experience at Jerusalem Cafe I'd give this place a very solid recommendation. Based on the other recently opened Middle Eastern eatery I'd say that Jerusalem Cafe is faster and has friendlier service. But I got less food, it wasn't quite as good (but still excellent) and cost more. Overall I am going to give four stars to Jerusalem Cafe and note that it appears with Jerusalem Cafe, Pita Inn, Mr. Halal Broaster and Shwarma Express that Roosevelt Road in Lombard is quickly becoming a hot spot (a Mecca if you will) for Middle Eastern eats. read more

I was super excited to see a Mediterranean (read: veggie friendly!) business pop up so close to work! Even better that I scored a Groupon deal. I ordered the Vegetarian Falafel Plate and the Vegetarian Combo Plate. Needless to say I had a TON of falafel! They were not the typical balls, though, which threw me off a bit. They were good, and the Tahini sauce was really the best I've had so far - nice, thick, and rich - and rivals the Tahini at my favorite Mediterranean joint. The Falafel Plate had much lighter fare - the falafel, a bit of lettuce, and some pita. It's more of a light snacky-type lunch. I much preferred the Combo Plate, which was more substantial and lasted me two meals. I didn't like the Tabouleh, but it was also the first time I'd had it, so perhaps it's an acquired taste? I LOVE me some grape leaves! These were really yummy, albeit sloppy and falling apart. There were also random grape leaf pieces floating around. The Baba Ganoush was also really good and obviously homemade (plus!), but it did have some huge eggplant chunks floating around, which was a bit off-putting texture-wise since it's slimy like that. It always makes me a little sad when Mediterranean joints use the supermarket-type pita bread. Y'know, the dense flavorless bread? I get that it's probably a P.I.T.A. to make your own pita, but maybe just throwing it on the grill would at least be a step up on the flavor profile. The Baklava was a bit disappointing as it was extremely hard and dry. They had a TON of it out on the counter individually wrapped... maybe they made too much at once? In the future I'll probably just stick with the Veggie Combo Plate. To sum, Jerusalem Cafe seems like a pretty decent Mediterranean joint. Lombard needs one, so I hope it sticks around! Stopped on a Fri night, place was mobbed. Parking lot full. Still we found a table. I ordered the Lamb kabob entree w/ an appetizer of baba ganoush. Lamb was tender and good. Pretty solid food! Andrew L. and I met here for lunch to enjoy a Groupon deal. This place used to be a hot dog joint and is a small interior space. The staff is friendly, but there isn't really any ambiance. I ordered the vegetarian combo, which included baba ganoush (favorite word ever), hummus, stuffed grape leaves, falafel, a pita and tabouleh. I think I ordered wrong. I feel like I ended up with a plate of dips, but oh well. The falafel is quite crispy and delightful, but I was a little confused that the grape leaves were served cold. Oh well, they had a very nice salty finish, so I suppose I was surprised. Overall, I couldn't help but compare it to Naf Naf Grill, which still holds a special corner of my heart with their super puffy pitas and smoky baba ganoush. However, I'll have to revisit this review once I try a entree - this could be more my poor choices than a reflection on this place. read more

This is a small, unassuming little building on Roosevelt. The food was fresh and tasty! We got the combination plates which had chicken, falafel, beef kuftas, and beef strips that were so tender! This Lombard location is conveniently located on Roosevelt Ave on my way home. Great spot to pick up dinner on late working nights. I called ahead and placed an order with a friendly voice on the other line. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Perfect timing for me to wrap up my last minute reporting and get the car and my belly warmed up. Upon arrival my order was hot and ready. For 3 meals, my bill was under $30, averaging $10 a meal. I ordered the combination dinner plate, a steak sish kabob dinner and a gyros plate with fries. It came with hummus and warm pita bread. It was about a 15 minute drive home and dinner was still warm. I was happily surprised with the take out portions. My hubby finished his sish kabobs faster than I can say hummus! Every entree was delicious, tender and fresh. All the employees looked miserable and no eye contact or conversation was made. Only the owner was engaging and friendly but it felt forced and motivated by money. I had the falafel sandwich which came with 6 falafel logs, pitas, a small amount of iceberg lettuce strips, tzatziki sauce, and some sort of cucumber coleslaw mix. The falafel was not that great. It was pretty greasy and had a strong flavor that I couldn't place and didn't care for. There wasn't nearly enough lettuce or cucumber coleslaw mix to put in the pitas with the falafel, and the pitas tasted stale. Overall, it wasn't awful, but the next day I put leftovers on my plate to warm up in the microwave and just found them so unappetizing I tossed them in the trash. Now on to the good! Cheap prices, good falafel pita, baba was pretty good, and they had unlimited amounts of toppings you could grab for no extra charge. Hummas wasn't very good... This place used to be THE PLACE for falafel and Middle eastern food. However, over the past few months the quality has been inconsistent. The plates have gotten smaller and smaller. The pita is crumbly. My husband and I are regulars and come in at least once a week. The past few times they have served us on very small plates. You can barely eat out of. This last time we went the food was cold. When we looked over to see what other people were eating, they had the big played like before. The tabbouleh could use a little more zing (I like it juicier and more sour). The falafel was a tad salty but good. The Baba ghanouj and hummus were good. I like how you order online where you can actually see what the customer asked for instead of having to guess and it's still wrong. I asked for all rice no veggies and got all veggies!!! You have to actually click a button and pay more for all veggies which I didn't click because I saw pictures of them and didnt want a soggy veggie experience as though this was an asian place. This made this food taste like a stir fry cooked at home instead of what I thought the food would be. The ONLY thing good was the falafel and that's why it got 2 out of 5 stars. read more
