I rated the optical with a one star rating because at least they were open. I only wish we had read the previous reviews before we went here. We paid for a refraction fee and $600 glasses out of pocket. When we picked them up the prescription was so bad that everything looked crooked. We then were told that we would need another refraction visit. This time we were charged again for the refraction fee. We asked why we were charged again since it was their mistake. Then they promised we would be refunded. However checked later and they said they never give refunds for any reason. We had glasses redone and they are still unusable. They refuse to help us in anyway. So we lost $600 on this optical department. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel obligated to share this experience. Dr. Bradley Gustave was shockingly rude to my mother on a couple of her visits. My mother did not do anything to him and don't know if he is racist or what. She was interrupted repeatedly, spoken down to and made to feel as though her concerns were an inconvenience. There was a complete lack of empathy and bedside manner. No patient especially someone who may already be anxious about their health-- should be treated this way. Went in for a pre cataract surgery appointment. It's been getting harder to see properly and because I wear glasses, I noticed the changes more often. My mom waited too long to have her cataract surgery and it was difficult. I figured I wanted someone good and someone who I could trust. I'm an artist. My husband had his surgery and it went smoothly, even with his medical issues. They offered an option for the eye drops to be combined, I knew from experience that made it easier. Cost a bit more, but well worth it. Especially when you're not used to doing eye drops. I'm looking forward to seeing clearly again. No more dull or blurry vision! They addressed all my concerns, made sure I was well informed, everyone greeted me, and the waiting time was minimal. read more

Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I went in due to a follow up from another doctor to being told I needed to rush to the ER because I may have a brain tumor. I was crying inconsolably because this was my worst fear and I am mother of three young girls. To be told the 20 mins later being told that I could go to the ER or wait for a MRI appointment. Then I chose ER. 45 mins later waiting in the room by myself in the dark I had disassociated at this point and wanted to leave.. mind you I had been there for almost 3 hours. I open the door and say that and the doctor tells me this urgent thing that she found so urgent was obviously not priority for her because my paper work was not even ready and she told me rudely that I could come get it before they closed.. in which I informed her I preferred just to wait at this point for the MRI referral because I wanted to go home.. come the next day I was waiting for the referral to come through to get my MRI to find out she never did it and still my paperwork wasn't ready and they wouldn't fax it to the hospital I was getting the MRI at... and told me to come get it if I want it.. so I went up there after work at 12 and it still wasn't ready the ladies at the front desk weren't sure how to put it all together.. finally I got the paper work and was about to leave but then realized I did not have the order for my MRI the urgent one Dr. Ferrell had mentioned. So I had to go back in and say to the girl upfront I can't get an MRI without an order.. then the front desk girls scurry around trying to figure out how to get this accomplished.. fast forward to today my MRI was fine but now I need a lumbar puncture and they discharged me so now I am confused and baffled because I am not sure how their lack of patient care is my fault or how I am suppose to figure out what is wrong with me without the referral to a neurologist. This very traumatic experience was hard because of the reason for the matter but handled with more cooth and better bedside manner would have at-least eased the shock of it all. read more

If you are getting shots for AMD, you should know that there should be no pain or discomfort. I saw Dr. Phlugrath twice and had pain both times. It's nonsense! I knew from having shots before coming to Greenville that the shots should not hurt. After the second time I contacted the Retina Consultants and made an appointment with Dr Hall, retina specialist. I got my first shot from him yesterday and there was No Pain or discomfort and my eye has no redness. There was no downtime and no tears. I went to one of the top opthamolgy institutes in the US and was told that wasn't true, that i was in Stage 1, and might never need a transplant. Dr. Bruce is excellent, however the optical department is anything but. Frames are expensive to begin with. I was measured for and paid for progressive lenses. These arrived a month later, but i couldnt see out of them because the pupillary measurement was off. A month later new lenses arrived but these were also off, so i was told they would have to put me in bifocals though i wouldnt receive a price adjustment. Hate bifocals...never been in bifocals... I'll continue with Dr. Bruce but NOT the optical department. read more

I will be looking into Clemson Eye or one of the other alternatives in the future. Cost for these services are far too expensive to get half-'a' treatment. What I found awful is the lack of professionalism even though I have bough my kids glasses and mine there as well as I have seen these doctors since we relocated three years ago. Optical department staff at Halton Rd, Greenville, SC does not deserve even one star. Unprofessional and discriminating staff, who has no any ideas about culturally sensitive care, one was chewing gum and slurping to customers faces ( the manager said that his company is ok with that though). Couldn't find my glasses without help of a manager , but when the glasses were found , appeared that they do not fit. He had us hold our 15 month old down and pry his eyes open for his appointment, and then proceeded to say this is normal behavior for a 15 month old to be screaming and crying while not making an effort to have this appointment be a positive experience. I decided on Jervey Eye Group on Halton Road in Greenville because my new insurance doesn't cover my former eye doctor. The first impression I got was that it's a pleasant environment, and everyone is super friendly. The doctor who gave me the eye exam was very friendly and bubbly, but... I came in for an eye glass exam because contacts don't work well for my eyes. The first comment she made on entering the exam room was something about my contact exam. I told her that I was in for an eye glass exam and told her why. She said that technology has come a long way since I last had contacts, so I told her to go ahead and do the contact lens exam. Keep in mind that my appointment was to get new EYEGLASSES. After the exam was complete, she told me I was all set, and gave me what she said was my prescription for contacts. I asked if it was also good for glasses, and she looked at me confused. She said either that the prescription was also good for glasses, or that she would give me a prescription for glasses, I don't remember which. I reminded her, in a hopefully friendly manner, that the reason I came in for the exam was to get...EYEGLASSES. When I went to get fitted, the staff member who helped me select a frame asked if I was going to use my insurance for contacts or glasses. At this point, I was beginning to wonder why there was so much emphasis on my getting contacts. The contact samples the doctor gave me are really great, but, as I mentioned to her, my eyes don't work well with contacts. I'm 64 years old, and I think I know my eyes by now. When I found a frame that suited me, I asked the person helping me if there was enough real estate on the lens to cover the progressive levels. She said that wouldn't be a problem. I believed her because I previously had even shallower lenses that were purchased from Costco many years earlier, and they worked really well. I only asked her because vision changes over time, but she assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. And the doctor said my vision hasn't changed that much. Fast forward - Yesterday, I picked up my glasses. My long distance is great, my reading level is ok, but not as good as my old glasses. But this morning I sat down at my computer, and everything is blurry. The glasses are set as high as they can go on my nose, so that's not the problem. When I called their office, the team member said it's likely that they need to be adjusted higher on my nose. I said ok and will stop in tomorrow to see if they can be adjusted. I really want to like these glasses and hope Jervey will do what they said they'd do and work with me until the glasses are right. I paid out of pocket a grand total of $700 with insurance! I'll add a follow up to this review after the outcome of my visit tomorrow. If they fix my glasses without making me feel like a nuisance or a pest, I'll up the star rating. Stay tuned. read more

Dr. Andreasen may possibly be the most inconsiderate and intolerable person I have ever met. He never listens to your needs and somehow manages to belittle you everytime he talks to you, after he's made you wait an hour for him to come in to see you for him to also tell you you're gonna get your eyes dilated. I don't know maybe it would've made sense for you to dilate them while I was waiting to see you, but instead you're going to make me wait longer. He's very obviously just in it for the money. Every time I come in to see him, I wait at least 30 minutes and he is very rude and never apologizes for the wait or anything once he comes in. After my last appointment, I will not be returning back to Jervey ever again. read more

First of all, my original review was deleted! That just shows how seriously they take their customers opinion. Now for my first ever horrible experience with any doctor: I went in for a reoccurring sty in my left eye. While I tried to explain to the doctor that I have worn contacts for the last 15 years with no issue and especially since I've had a sty I am extra careful. Instead of giving insight as to what I could be improved to help my situation, all the doctor did was pass snide remarks. Literally super rushed, rude, obnoxious and even questioning my intelligence and asking my how I was an engineer since I took time to answer his questions during a vision test. If these are the kind of doctors they have, here I really question their seriousness in providing quality healthcare service to people. Overall really horrible experience. Would never recommend this place or going back! P.S. please do not delete this review, this isn't a hole in the wall restaurant, it is healthcare service you provide. I saw Bradley Gustave, M.D. I did not care for him or his nurse. This was my first appointment with them. The nurse came in and "her" stool was sitting in front of my husband. She looks at my husband and barks "I need MY stool", (you need to understand the attitude that went with this). My husband said I didn't take your stool, it was here when I came in. Then she asked me if I wanted a prescription? I said "Excuse me, I don't understand your question". "Do you want a prescriptions." she stated again. I said "Well, I guess I'll need a prescription if I need new glasses". She did the standard test with no great enthusiasm. I like Dr. Shelley and trust him with my eye care. Especially since I am blind in one eye after a botched retina surgery from a different Doctor at the Jervey Eye group itself, I feel it is very important to get regular eye exams with someone whom I trust. I am also seeing Dr. Pflugrath about my retinal issues and am very pleased with him. So last week Jervey Eye Group called me and left a message that they needed to cancel my annual eye exam appointment with Dr. Shelley, since he was going to be out of town. They me asked to call back and set up a new appointment. I was deferred to some other voicemail boxes a few times and after a few days of this the appointment scheduler I got to talk to was very rude and claiming I was the one who cancelled the appointment (I do still have the message that proves this is not true). After telling me multiple times that basically I am lying about the cancellation, the scheduler said all she can offer was an appointment in 6 months from now. Since obviously this is not acceptable and also due to no fault on my side, I will have to look for better service somewhere else. I do understand there is struggle in hiring skilled personnel, but also it's very sad to see how access to good Doctors I trust is blocked by such rude behavior on the administrative side. read more

I recently saw Dr Gustave, whom I feel was less than professional. He came in the room like he was in a whirlwind. I am a former registered nurse and feel like I have the ability to judge somewhat as to whether my eyes were assessed by a Doctor or NOT!! And Dr Gustave did NOT DO a thorough exam of my eyes. He never actually looked at the outer eye itself for redness, scratches, irritation or anything. He was in the room less than 10 min and gave me a prescription that cost over $500 after insurance, told me to call back if it was too expensive. Not hardly, I won't be calling him‼. I had seen Dr Shaw at this practice before; who was extremely nice and concerned. Cause I too, have several serious eye conditions that can result in blindness!!! And to be treated like this by this so called professional is DISGRACEFUL and an insult to @JERVEY EYE GROUP. They should know how some of their "professionals" are treating patients and being talked about in the communities. Therefore, I DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. GUSTAVE. read more

This will be my first Yelp review and I hope the management of Jervey Eye group sees this at some point. My wife called today to ask questions about contacts. She said the girl at the front desk was extremely rude. Refused to show concern for the issue. After reading other reviews, customer service seems to be a large issue for Jervey Eye Group. I do not expect the site to fix the issue but being willing to listen and possibly give ideas to help fix an issue. Treating people with respect goes a long way to retaining a customer base. I attempted to leave a comment on their web site to give them a chance to acknowledge the issue before I posted for the world to see, but they only have a phone number. In the past we had issues getting Glasses that were ordered ( before COVID Supply issues) and quality of the glasses that we received. We said those could be just isolated instances but now I see that the customer service has no management or customer care. This type of customer care will eventually cause people to stop using them regardless of how good the doctors are. read more

Old grey haired receptionist with lesbian haircut (no offense to my lesbian sisters) was extremely rude. I walked in and told her I was here for the first time and wasn't sure where to go. She asked who my doctor was and I said I wasn't sure. She rudely said I needed to know and offered no help in checking who it was. She then said I need to sign in and if I didn't they wouldn't accept me. She then told me to sit down. 5 minutes later she then says I need to fill out some paper work. During me filling out my paper work she made an in Unnecessary remark about my age and that I'm too young to fully understand all of the paper work. I almost walked out then. Someone needs to tell her not be so blunt and out right rude, especially to new patients. Besides her, the assistant I was assigned was super nice and fun to talk to, and my experience was quick and nice. I left satisfied, but someone really needs to train the older lady in the waiting area by the glasses displays in some basic customer service skills. read more

It has taken me over a week and several phone calls to get prior authorization for a prescription written during my first AND last visit. The doctor was fine, but there is absolutely NO reason for a business to treat a patient this way. My pharmacy faxed over necessary forms 3 times, and never got a response. I called 3 times, left messages, left on hold, never got to talk to the practice manager, and finally, after a very forceful conversation with whomever answered the phone on my 4th try, was connected to the doctor's secretary. She said that she never received a fax, asked me to "hold on", came back on the phone and said she found the fax on her co-worker's desk but it had just been sent to them this morning! Went for an eye exam and was supposed to be scheduled for a contact lens fitting. Ended up getting a second eye exam, which I was billed for, instead of a contact lens fitting. 8 months later and I've yet to be scheduled for a contact lens fitting. When I call they say they tried contacting me (they have the correct email and phone number) but couldn't get in touch with me so they never made the appointment. When I ask for an appointment they say they're completely booked and will have to call with an appointment date, of which I never get. read more

Medical care has been adequate over the last several years for eyelid, floaters, cataracts, glaucoma screening. I made an appointment in July 2018 for August 1, 2019 exam. Approximately two weeks before the scheduled exam I was contacted by Jervey (phone and email, 7/15). After being unable to get through to the appointment line, I left a message that I would not be available later that day and asked for my call to be returned the next day. It was returned the same day while I was out. I called back on the 16th and explained that I would like to get in as soon as possible. I was told that appointments were being made for October. I asked if I could see another doctor in the practice sooner. The answer was no, the doctors don't like to do that but that my concern and rationale for seeing a doctor earlier than October would be forwarded. I have not heard back from Jervey and have made other arrangements for my eye care. Two stars for the care over the last several years and zero for this last interaction. Mark B. read more

Super expensive eyewear and you can find same level or better doctors elsewhere in Greenville. I was a patient for 10 years or so and stopped going because they charged me $15.00 for the doctor to sign a DMV form. REALLY!?!? I think they all make enough money in the practice to do this sort of thing with no charge, especially for long time patients. It's ridiculous and this group does not deserve the reputation they have in Greenville. Stop recommending them. read more
