I wanted to get a bikini wax before a warm-weather trip but couldn't get to my regular spot in Chicago before some time in Ann Arbor. I made an appointment at Jessica's Apothecary and had a great experience. Booking online was super easy. Checking in with smooth, and I appreciated the cozy environment and waiting area. I cannot remember the esthetician's name, but she was just as warm as the space. She was also very thorough in her questions, to be sure I was getting what I wanted to my preferences. There's a reason this business has such amazing reviews. I had some waxing done by Rachel. She talked me through the whole process, explained to me what kind of wax she was using throughout every step of the way, and was quite possibly the sweetest human ever. The aftercare was explained well too. I will go back again, and again, and again. I will say, it is pricy, but the work they do is thorough and worth every penny. I will always recommend this place! It was my first time here and I chose this place based on Yelp reviews. I got a 1 hour organic facial, rosemary scalp treatment and full body waxing done here. The facial was good overall but the rosemary scalp treatment was really great. The waxing was amazing!!! I had no pain whatsoever and Michelle was extremely thorough and offered me great recommendations for handling my ingrowns. I went in a couple of days before my wedding last week to get my brows done and I was SO happy with the result. My skin is very sensitive and prone to breakouts so I wanted to make sure I went some place that would do everything with tweezers vs. wax since the latter irritates my skin (not something you want for wedding photos). I made my appointment online via their really awesome scheduling system and stopped in the next day to see Brittany. The space is very relaxing and the friendly woman at check in offered me water or peppermint iced tea before my appointment. I took them up on a glass of water and made my way upstairs where Brittany took me back to get started. She was SO nice and gentle. Tweezing isn't the most pleasant of sensations but somehow I barely noticed it. She had a very easy touch and did an extremely clean and precise job. I walked out of there very satisfied. She was also incredibly nice and personable. We had a lovely chat and I left with high spirits and good lookin, pain free brows! Two days later I went to my salon for my wedding up-do and one of the other stylists came up to me and said, "I just want you to know, your brows are on FLEEK!" I totally agree. I've never been to such a perfect spa. The facials always include some hot oil on your body or scalp and massage. The products all smell amazing. Everyone is so nice. I always get the monthly specials. This month's $130 facial was 75 minutes and included hot stone and oil treatment on the body. Plus a full sized face cream. I had a great experience at Jessica's. I received multiple reminder emails, which are always helpful. When I arrived a bit early, I was welcomed into their gorgeous, homey spa and offered water and tea. Although Dasha, was a bit late for my waxing appointment, I had no problem relaxing on a very comfortable couch. The environment was so quiet and inviting. Also, Dasha apologized profusely, and even offered me a discount for running behind with another client! The wax was great, although it left significant residue that was a bit hard to remove. After going to Aveda multiple times to get my brows done, and each time being completely underwhelmed, I decided to try someplace new, someplace local! When I walked into the building, I was pleasantly greated by the woman at the desk and offered some refreshing cucumber water. Brittany did an amazing job with my brows! I didn't experience any discomfort whatsoever! She was so friendly and my brows look great! I will definitely be back. Maybe I'll try a massage next time! I had an incredible dermasound spa facial today with Jessica. Here's why I highly recommend it: 1.) I was greeted with a hot tea immediately upon entering the building. Yes, it's common to have tea available in a spa, but in this case it was provided immediately when I walked in the door, before I even checked-in. I was freezing, and it was a nice touch. 2.) The bed was top of the line. It was heated to the perfect temperature. When you're paying a premium this is really important. 3.) The product line is top of the line and organic. 4.) Jessica's knowledge. She completely understands skin types, and what your skin is doing. She demonstrated this throughout the appointment. 4.) Jessica's technique. I put on my form that I was there for 50% relaxation and 50% skin texture improvement. She delivered! Her extractions weren't too painful but were clearly done well and correctly. Her massage (face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back) was perfect. She was hands on the entire time. Her use of the machine was perfect as well. 5.) RESULTS. I already am seeing the results and my facial was this morning. My pores look tighter, my texture is improved, and my skin is hydrated. 6.) No one pushed me buying any products. Jessica helped me pick out makeup because I asked, and she sent me home with a sample for the moisturizer that she recommends. That was it. I cannot stand when you've already spent quite a bit on a service and are pushed into spending more. This way, I can make sure I love the moisturizer and come back for it once I run out of the sample. I hope this helps for those wondering if Jessica's is worth it. Came back here probably close to ten times for a full Brazilian since my last review. Jessica remains the best waxer and wax experience I've ever had. Very clean and nice, calm space with extremely friendly employees. Always smells great and they offer complimentary cups of infused waters and teas that are always delicious. Pretty much as painless as a wax can be. Very complete with her work and tweezes with a cosmetic light to make sure it's a clean job. The numbing cream, acetic acid to prevent skin problems, and wax remover she leaves for you to apply are a great touch and very soothing after the wax. Results are consistently perfect and totally worth it. I also love the location, the easy online booking system, and the quickie wax discount. Still consider this a nice option, especially because, as I mentioned before, they use a product line that I like. However, past few appointments have left me exploring other options. Here's why: * The esthetician left a page in the treatment room, in full view, with the names of clients for the day, and what services they were getting in like, big handwriting. I didn't need to know who was getting a full Brazilian, and wouldn't want others knowing what services I was receiving either! I'm sure it was just a mistake, but I hope they are more careful to protect their clients' privacy! * I noticed that with facials, they leave you alone on the table a lot while they are doing something else (looking at phone?). If you get an LED facial, for example, that's a lot of hands-off time where other salons will treat the client to a foot, hand or head massage of some sort. * Noise. The treatment room on entry level is not sound-proof and hearing the conversations of the staff and customers makes it hard to drift into a deep and renewing relaxation during a treatment. * Price point. They are on the high side, which would be ok, if they knocked it out of the park most or all of the time. But there is too much competition nearby to pay that much for a hit-or-miss service. read more

When I was running late, they were super accommodating and offered to push back my appointment time by fifteen minutes so I felt less rushed. Matthew explained all the products when I asked about them and let me relax when I wanted to relax. We had a very thorough conversation before the facial to discuss my skin problems and he addressed all of them before, during, and after the facial. Okay, I am a FREAK about my eyebrows. Like, a psychotic lunatic. After having a very bad experience at a salon in Ann Arbor a few years ago that left me in a full blown mental breakdown, I get very nervous having somebody new wax my brows. I'm reaching an age where, while hair is sprouting up in places I don't want it to, (hello, random three-inch chin hair that seemingly pops out overnight) my brows don't grow in as thick and full as they used to, and I'm afraid that one bad brow wax could become my permanent look. I made an appointment with Jessica after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. The business is really cute and relaxing and the staff was super friendly. I filled out a brief form that asked about retinoid use, medications, etc. Jessica took me upstairs and asked what brand of retinoid lotion that I use. She informed me that she could not wax me because I used a retinol cream and I would have to stop using it for three days before I could be waxed. I must have looked panicked (I needed my brows done before going to a wedding out of town) because she quickly said that she could tweeze them. I then gave her my Eyebrow Incident of 2011 story and stressed that I did not want them to be too thin. She tweezed them for me and they have never looked better!! Jessica was so nice and I am thrilled with my brows. I really appreciated her asking about the products I use and avoiding potentially ripping my skin off, since no esthetician has ever asked that before. I am looking forward to having a facial from Jessica as well. The salon is great!! read more

I think this place is just ok. The service wasn't what I was expecting. I have been to several different facial places over the past seven years. I had been to the one in SF for last five years, where I could get a full 90 min. facial - masks, tons of extractions, peels, microdermabrasion, eyebrow shaping - for $150 including tips. I moved to Ann Arbor and decided to try out this place. At Jessica's, I requested Dermasound Facial because I don't like estheticians spend time on other body parts other than my face. I want them to just focus on working on face. I paid $100 + tip for 45 min. session. She spent probably half of the time cleaning/massaging neck, shoulder, décolleté, which I wasn't happy about. I think the place is good for someone who is looking for relaxing facial massage, but not for someone who wants to spend money only for facial treatment. read more

Visited Jessica's this past weekend for a facial. Leigh provided the service. I've gotten many facials over the years at various spas and I have to say that this was the best one I've ever received. My skin looks great and the moisturizer that was recommended (and I purchased despite the price tag)? AMAZING. I've been looking for a face lotion with SPF that didn't make me shiny after an hour and my prayers have been answered. Worth every penny. Looking forward to going back. Just tried out Jessica for the first time for a Brazilian wax, based on reviews from Yelp. Jessica is a warm and friendly person, and you immediately feel at ease upon arrival. The appointment rooms are comfortable, and definitely serene and spa-like. My Brazilian wax went extremely quickly (about 25 minutes), and was very thorough. She uses hard wax in the more "intimate" areas, which really helped to reduce the pain. It was probably the least painful Brazilian wax that I've ever had - and I'm currently pregnant! Even though Brazilian waxes can feel invasive, Jessica was extremely professional and I felt as comfortable as one possibly can during such a procedure. I'd highly recommend Jessica for a new or experienced Brazilian waxer. I look forward to trying her for a facial sometime soon! read more

I used a Living Social deal to try out reflexology, and decided to splurge and get a facial as well. I loved every minute of it. The reflexology was wonderful. Leigh went over my areas of concern with me (I get frequent headaches) before she started. I have never felt so relaxed before. I can't recommend it highly enough. If you've ever considered getting the Spa Reflexology here, go for it, you will not be disappointed! Next I saw Jessica for my facial. We went over my concerns before she began (large pores, blackheads). I've had other facials where it seems like everyone gets the same thing, but that was not the case here. Every bit of the treatment was tailored to me. She also recommended a product for me to use, and advised me on how often to use it. She is full of helpful information and gives good advice with any questions/concerns you may have. I did also have a massage with Suzette recently, and that was an amazing experience! I've had many a "relaxing" facial ruined by folks who wont stop telling me about every type of acne product I should buy from them. This facial was pampering and cleansing! I've been back a few times when I've been in Michigan visiting family, and have also purchased facials as gifts for my husband, sister-in-law and mom. Everyone has loved their facials, both Jessica and Leigh are wonderful estheticians with lovely demeanors. I know Leigh has recently been certified to do a special facial suitable for cancer patients, which is why I bought a gift certificate for my mother who has recently undergone radiation (which is very hard on the skin). I was nervous about this because of the cost and it being my first facial, but it was an incredible experience throughout- the complimentary slippers, the fantastic tea, the calming atmosphere, the nonjudgmental staff, everything. The spa bed was very comfortable and heated to the perfect temperature. The products all felt luxurious, smelled amazing (but not overpowering, a soothing, earthy, botanical scent!) and were applied, massaged, and removed expertly from the skin. Rachel was very thoughtful and thorough with everything she did. Extractions were done where I didn't even know my skin was congested! Her attention to detail was greatly appreciated. Following the service, I felt almost sedated I was so relaxed and serene. I was given privacy and allowed time to make my way back to the front. Nobody pressured me to purchase products, but I was asked at different points if I had questions about any products used during the service, and I had said no. I decided on a whim that since I was running low on cleanser and moisturizer at home, I wanted recommendations for new products to add to my routine. Rachel again was very informative and able to point me out to a couple different options for the routine- cleaner, exfoliant, serum, moisturizer- with rationale as to why she would recommend that for my skin type. I felt comfortable and confident selecting products, especially when I asked Rachel to price-check them for me prior to purchase and she did with no questions asked. Even with the purchase, I was provided with samples of all 3 products I bought so that in case I didn't like them, I could return them unopened for a full refund. She also provided a couple other samples in there so that I could see if I liked another serum and exfoliant she recommended. She even included a complimentary chocolate bar (vegan, allergen-free, sustainably sourced and had a LOVE poem on the inside?! How CUTE is that?!). This was a fantastic experience, I cannot express this enough, and I'm already planning when I will be able to make it in next. This is such a great thing to do, not only for your skin, but for your mind. I've been very anxious and stressed out lately from work, but these ladies were 100% positive energy. I got my second facial at Jessica's Apothecary after the first amazing experience. My first facial was with Jessica and I got the 1 Hour Organic Facial. It was the perfect combination of skin cleansing, extractions, and relaxation with facial and neck massages. My biggest skin concern was some acne on my chin and dryness. I left the place with my skin glowing, clean, and very hydrated! I was not pressured into buying anything. In fact, I was highly encouraged to try some samples, especially the products that were used for my facial. I loved all the products. My skin felt hydrated for the entire week afterwards. My second facial experience was with Amber. She was very nice, asked about my skin concerns and needs. This was also a combination of skin cleansing, extractions, and relaxation. I am not sure if the right products were used on my face because I left the facial with my face VERY tight and dry. I didn't get the glow and hydration I was looking for. I was disappointed. I was also distracted by some talking outside the room. Last time I was in a room upstairs so it was quiet. Service here is always so excellent though. You are never pressured to purchase anything.
