Jessup Cellars was great way to start off our wine tasting tour. I highly recommend the place especially for those who are new to wine drinking as your pourer stays at your table the whole time (unless she's gone to bring more wine) to guide you through what you're drinking. We had the opportunity to ask a lot of questions, learn about what makes the Napa climate so good for grapes, what wine pairs well with what, the characteristics of each wine, what tannins are and how they change the flavor, how to hold the glass to look like an expert, etc, etc, etc. Our family learned a bunch. I believe our pourer's name was Kim and she was very knowledgeable and friendly. We sampled a total of 7 wines. We were only supposed to sample 5, but my mom asked to sample a wine not on the menu (Sauvignon Blanc?) and mentioned how she loved the Port, so Kim brought those out to us too. This was my second visit to Jessup in two visits to the area. My first visit was due to a recommendation of my B&B. I really enjoyed myself the first time (and brought back lots of wine to prove it). This time, my experience was even better. It seems as if the Jessup secret is out! When I visited last time, it was the middle of high season, on a weekend, and the place was relatively slow. This time, in low season (well, getting close to spring...), the spot was jam packed. The staff, however, fit us right in at a standing table for 4. We had simply the nicest group to pour wine (a few of them traded off). They were personable and didn't seem to be using a written note card to talk to us (they weren't using a script, belive me). Everyone was so nice. We got to hear the stories of the different wines and even chatted about vacations/the area/etc. The wines are delicious and hard to find elsewhere. I really love the Merlot (no, Merlot is NOT bad wine!...some of the best wine in the world is Merlot...just saying...). Anyway, the wines are delicious. Thanks to Jessup for a great second visit. I've only been here twice but I do love me some Jessup!! This is definitely a hidden gem off the beaten path, tucked away in a very charming neighborhood. Next time, I hope to stay in the area longer and have lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. Ok, back to Jessup...when you walk in, you are warmly welcomed by the staff. Once you sit down for your tasting, you are presented with a platter of cheeses, crackers, olives, nuts and chocolate to pair with the wines. I'm definitely a red wine person and not a fan of Chardonnay but I liked their blend. I would even consider buying a bottle, maybe during one of my many future visits. I enjoyed their red wines much more, and like many reviewers, love the Table for Four. On my second trip, I tried Manny's Blend which was also very yummy. I HIGHLY recommend coming to Jessup if you're visiting the Napa Valley area. It's not too far from the other wineries so why not go to an establishment serving quality wines with exceptional service by knowledgeable staff? If you're visiting more than one winery, I suggest coming to this place last because if you come here first, you might be disappointed with the others. read more

Our group of 6 went to Jessup as a 1st stop wine tasting in early August. Wine was good along with food pairing. Service on the phone was outstanding when reserving our spot and then confirming however once we were there, the young man pouring our wine tasting was very slow. We asked if he could pick up the pace a bit as we had other appointments but instead of apologizing & saying yes, he gave excuses that he has to answer the phones & he is the only one there etc. Also, we ordered 14 bottles of wine to purchase between us but because one couple only ordered 2 of those bottles, he charged them for one tasting ($60). That does not seem fair or we would have purchased the wine all together. (Two bottles of wine purchased equals a waived tasting fee.) Maybe this is management policy. Not sure. Just beware. I want to rate it higher but too many other wineries to visit in the area. read more

We were the last customers here before closing and had the whole place to ourselves. One last one before we left Napa. The wine tastings are 3 for $10 or 6 for $20, but if you get a bottle, the tasting fee is waived. Such a beautiful tasting room in Yountville. The staff as very friendly and knowledgable about all the wines. It made this experience very delightful. No wonder we saved the best for the last. We visited JC two summers ago and I still remember it like yesterday. We came in our free coupons. They didn't give us any trouble even when there were like 10 of us looking like moneyless college kids. mind you, we are all working and newly college graduates. they sat us in a big table and started their sales pitch... i forgot her name, but she was pretty nice and very knowledgeable even if she was new. she basically treated us like any other paying customers. she was friendly and sociable. we were suppose to only taste 6 but it seems like we tasted 10 and they just kept pouring and pouring. they also provided us endless of cheese and crackers. even one of my friend who 'apparently' hate cheese couldn't stop eating them. anyway, she must've known what she was doing because we ended up buying few bottles of merlot and my very first port. read more

My friend and I came here this past weekend. We had a phenomenal experience. This place is dog friendly. Even though neither of us have dogs, we saw at least three dogs during our ~2 hours stay / tasting here. AJ and Brian took great care of us. Since we didn't have a reservation, we had our tasting by the bar. Note that tasting by the bar is standing only. So if you can't stand for some time, I'd highly recommend making a reservation here, where you will be seated in the separate room and have chairs and tables with food for your tasting. This is the first winery / tasting room that I personally decide to sign up for a membership. I'm currently a member at Hestan because my family absolutely loves the wine there. I just signed up for my second membership this past weekend. I'd definitely had my fair share of Napa experience - been to Napa over a dozen times wine tasting for sure, and no winery really stood out to me or made me want to sign up. It really says a lot for me to sign up at Jessup. It wasn't only the wine that I would be happy to have at my home, but also the experience that came along with it. Again, AJ and Brian were really fun to hang out with while sipping our wine. My favorite here from the trip were their Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. My friend and I both bought a bottle of the Sauvignon Blanc to take back. Now I have two places that I definitely need to visit when I'm up in Napa, or more specifically, Yountville! This was the 5th stop on our day of tasting. If Jessup Cellars is not on your itinerary, then you need to add it...NOW! A friend suggested this place to me and I am so glad that he did as it blew us away. This was my other favorite stop of the day. (The other was Rubicon Estates.) The tasting room was quaint, the wines were good and the service was exceptional. This was the only tasting where they used Riedel glasses and served gourmet cheeses and fruits for $10. I bought three bottles here - the 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet, t the 2005 Napa Valley Zinfandel and a 2006 blend called "Table for Four." Their 2006 Napa Valley Merlot was also good. I also joined their wine club because they don't distribute anywhere. There tasting fee is $10, but I wasn't charged for it since I joined the club and bought wines. We didn't have an appointment, but we hit it at the right time because the crowds soon filed in after us. We also didn't get to try any of their ports, but I hear they are pretty good. Our hotel gave us a voucher for free wine tasting here, so it was our first stop. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wines are pretty good and very decently priced. They also waive the tasting fee if you buy a bottle. Their vineyard is actually located in a different area of Napa, so it's not the most scenic tasting room to visit. These guys were open late as it is a tasting room, and not a vineyard itself, so we stopped in. It was packed around 5:30pm as most vineyards close at 5pm and so people probably made their way here, just like us. The tasting was $20, and we had to wait a while as they were very busy. Our host was extremely friendly but was helping a bunch of other groups as well, so it wasn't as personal as other places. However, she was very informative, showing us maps of where all the grapes come from that we were tasting. You also get crackers and dark chocolate with the tasting. The workers there was very friendly and helpful. We got 7 tastings for free, well we ended up buying a bottle since it was so good. We had their limited production, Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet and Port. Their Merlot and Cabernet came out to be our favorites and bought a bottle of their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. Jessup is both an art gallery and tasting room which hosts small to larger groups and has a knowledgeable staff which as another reviewer mentioned encourages purchasing wines after tasting. Decided to make a last stop before heading to dinner. Stepped in and it was quite busy for a monday night. We had to wait like ten minutes before getting a spot. Funny thing was a couple ladies walked in after us and got a table. Eventually we got a table with the same ladies. It took a while before they started pouring. Looks like they didn't plan on it because the hostess was pouring our flights. The wine is great and you get your moneys worth with 5 flights to taste. A couple whites and a few deep reds. Bonus was they had chocolate to go with the wine. Another bonus was they let us taste a "Cabernet Port" which was so amazing. After a few tasting I realized I had this wine before at the Napa Valley Film Festival. By the end of the tasting I eventually became a member. You wonder why I gave it 4 Star? Because my next few visits back I was treated really well. With VIP seating in a private room and a personal wine pour. I am a bit of a Napa novice but I both trips to Jessup Cellars surpassed any expectation I had. Both times my group of 4-7 ladies had a reservation in the back room surrounded by amazing artwork. We were hosted by Chris and the other time by Lauren; both hostesses were just as approachable as the wine! Tastings are complementary and include a plate of pairings. If you are not wine savvy, the hostesses have no problem making recommendations and sharing their wealth of wine knowledge and experience. It is quite obvious that the Jessup staff LOVE what they do and want to share their joy with ALL patrons. Personally, I prefer white wines, but after tasting Jessup's Merlot, Cab, and even Zin, I no longer discriminate between the reds and whites. I recently joined the wine club after visiting several times! Be sure to call ahead for a reservation - these come with tastings at a table with a sample of cheeses and chocolate. Everyone that I've met during my tastings were very friendly and excited about the wines that they are pouring. My personal favorites were the Zinfandel and Manny's Blend. Wish I could give this 4.5 stars. Did a 6 wine tasting, all reds. Their wines seem to be hit or miss, you either love it or don't care for it at all. Example: the zinfandel is very sweet, tasted more like a dessert wine, which neither my friend and I cared for, but they have some phenomenal blends like the juel. Customer service was great- I believe it was Matt who helped us out and recommended some other wineries to us, in addition to being extremely knowledgeable about wine. Pricing was one of the downsides- it's actually what detoured me from buying any wine. 3 tastings is $10 and 6 is $20. If you buy one bottle the 3 tasting fee is waived and if you buy 2 bottles the 6 tasting fee will be waived. I wanted to buy one bottle, but then would have had to still pay the tasting fee on top of that, so I decided against it. I would think me purchasing one $90 bottle would be more profitable than just making $20 on a tasting. Something to consider for sales purposes. We've been wine club members of Jessup for almost 10 years & their wine and service has always been excellent! We love the wine crew - Chris, Bailey, AJ, Frederic and Aaron! Some have moved around the company and some favs have moved on but we enjoy Jessup wines. It's a smaller, non-commercial winery which makes the wine & experience that much more enjoyable. The wines are bold and rich, particularly if you're a red wine drinker. Jessup is happy to serve tastings at the front house, but I'd highly recommend a full wine tasting experience and book time in the tasting room where they provide cheeses pairings with the wine. This cellar is so cute and quaint! It's a short walking distance from The French Laundry so if you have a reservation there and want to do some wine tasting before or after, go here! The gentleman that serve us was so nice and knowledgable. He even told us to take our time and walk around and enjoy their little art gallery. The tasting was $10.00 I believe and we tasted a good 6-7 wines. All outstanding. It's a nice location in Yountville, more of a tasting center than the winery itself, but you get full service, friendly people, and great great wines. As wine club members, my wife and I have always enjoyed the Jessup Cellars tasting experience for several reasons: 1. The wine is simply excellent. The optional cheese pairing is also excellent. They also have nut mix (that they make there) with pistachios, almonds, and other nuts that I adore. 2. The atmosphere and aesthetics of the place makes me feel comfortable, private, and dignified at the same time. There is a lot of art hanging throughout the tasting rooms, so you get a bit of a gallery experience. 3. Most importantly, the people who work at Jessup are kind, accommodating, and professional. There is one person who particularly embodies these characteristics--her name is Whitney. Everyone who works there is great, however if you can Whitney to do your tasting--do it! She just has one of those rare effortless and contagious personalities--she is not forcing or pretending, she is just being her. I believe that if I went into Jessup, in a bad mood, and Whitney was the person helping me, that I would leave in a better mood. I personally enjoy making people happy (that's just how I'm wired), and I believe that Whitney has that same trait. So there it is.
