This Jewel still ranks as one of the better stocked stores. I find things easy to find, and they have a wide selection of goods. Like before, and like all Jewel's I've been to, they don't have much staff so service isn't always good. I did use the self check-out and had a good experience there. Among the things I got were two bottles of wine. I'm used to trying to find someone to approve the purchase, but not this time. I hadn't finished scanning everything and there was someone there to approve the alcohol purchase before I even finished checking out. And, they are still expensive compared to other grocery stores. read more

I reviewed this Jewel over 4 years ago and an update is due. (Partly due to the low ratings this store seems to get!) This is a very well run, clean, Jewel! The produce is fresh as there are always employees on the floor stocking the department, and every other department seems to be well run and efficient. The front end cashiers and customer service crew are always polite and fast! This Jewel seems to retain employees for a long time which says something in the retail grocery business. We do shop at other local Jewels and this Jewel does the best job of them all. Sure, sometimes you can't find what you are looking for or a price at check-out does not reflect the sale price in the flyer, but that is a common issue in all the retail/grocery world. This jewel crew happily corrects any mistakes which are few and far between. This Jewel does a very good job and I am very glad it is continuing to provide great service and groceries! I just bought a winning lottery ticket there today at around 3:30. It was an instant ticket, Triple Dynamite 777. It was a $6 winner. I went up to the customer service counter and she said the ticket was not readable and that there was an error code. The ticket is in perfectly good shape and I did not over scratch it. It is my understanding that there is also number validation in addition to the barcode? I could be wrong. She didn't seem interested at all in helping me further and said that maybe the system was down. In addition to the machine would not dispense my ticket right away. My $2 was trapped and if I walked away it would have possibly been lost to the next customer. I did go to the gas station and indeed there was an error code. The gas station attendant did not offer help, either. Regardless, I would think that where you purchase the ticket from - in this case Jewel would do more to help you redeem a winning ticket as it was them that sold it. Will not purchase lottery tickets there ever again. Not trustworthy. read more

This Jewel has been a long time staple of the community, being a stable source of quality groceries though most other grocery stores within a few miles have switched over the years. The look of it has kept fairly up to date over the years and well as maintenance of the parking lot. In terms of prepared items (cakes, cut fruit, sandwiches, ready-to-cook, etc.) this location has some of the fresher fruits/vegetables that I've seen (in good sized packages as well) and the bakery is also in general consistent with an attractive looking selection of cakes, pies, muffins, and other seasonal items at a surprisingly reasonable price. The displays here are also maintained relatively nice with an overall clean and bright feeling to the entire store. read more

This goes to all jewels, but I just left the one on Dundee and Hicks Road. I was a Jewel Osco person since the 70s for over 50 years. I have been dedicated to Jewel instead of, Kohl's food, stores, Eagles, food, stores, ANP, Dominic's, you name it I have been dedicated to Jewel and I have now left them forever and ever along with tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people since they Decided to not give discounts to senior citizens and people that don't use the Internet. Jewel is discriminating against old people and they don't care. My parents can't shop here because they don't know how to work the app. I can't shop here because their app works once out of 10 times. I just left Jewel and it says we have a system error and our Wi-Fi is down and our app is not working. I have pictures of this. Several of the items I was gonna buy because it was convenient on the way home from the gym, had zero pricing in the meat aisle. Just random items without costs so you have no idea what the price is. I had to go to the service desk and wait for 27 minutes in line behind five other people that had similar issues. The Wi-Fi doesn't work at the store, the app isn't working, they won't let older people get discounts only younger, and only if you're lucky that the app is working at the time you're in the store. I asked three clerks at two out of three said go somewhere else, sir we shop at Tony's. Their own workers do not shop at this store or jewel in general because everyone complains and the workers have told me they hear 100 complaints a day on the app and Corporate doesn't care. Do not shop at Jewel, they don't care they don't want your business and they don't offer these discounts to elderly people. They just don't care. I'm done with Jewel for the rest of my life. I will be at Tony's exclusively who has better meets anyways much better prices, and they don't have the worst app in the history of the grocery industry. read more

I am continually impressed with the variety and quality of the flowers available at this Jewel. I often make arrangements for various parties and events in my friend circle and this Jewel is my go-to for the best options. The floral team is always super helpful and willing to look in back for extra or unique variety that I might be looking for. While the price of the bunches have gone up recently, it still feels like a great deal, especially given the quality of flowers available. read more

I remember that I need to buy my groceries and it is a good thing that I was on the way home and I stopped by at the nearest grocery store and went here in Jewel. Quite a few people are only inside. The store is clean and bright. First thing I noticed is that most of their items are on sale that sounds nice. Jewel is a pricier than the others so the sales on every item is a good thing. Selections are organized. There are few items that are not on stock but on most items it is well-stocked. Everything that I needed is available. Most importantly, they have a huge selection of frozen pizza and I love pizza. It is easy and convenient each time I wanted to eat one. I was in the checkout and the staff is nice and friendly. Different but nice experience in the store and I just hope that this will continue. read more

The lady continues to sticker other product while the other two employees stood doing nothing. I want to blame her but they didn't help. Kudos to John (Jewel staff at the Dundee Rd and Hicks Rd in Palatine) who was off the clock and at the self check out at the same time I was. He noticed my broken foot and asked if he could help me. I said no thanks and went about my check out but then the ground beef (from the butcher shop) I was ringing up did not reflect the sale price. I told the young man working the area and he went to the butcher and said he didn't see meat for 4.49 a lb. so I said I am going to go check myself and John sprung in to action and went with me. Chris at the butcher shop (was also very nice and apologetic) corrected the price and I thanked them. John said, "it's all about the customer experience and he was happy to help". This jewel is awful. First of all, it's difficult to even get into and out of the parking lot here, especially after 4:00 PM. The inside of the Jewel is disorganized and DIRTY. I have seen some really questionable things at this jewel. (For example: an entire cart full of bacon just sitting in the middle of the refrigerated aisle... no one was stocking it, God knows how long it had been sitting there!) There is often leaky freezers and fridges, with water in the floor. Also, the meat selection at this location is subpar. The only redeeming quality of this place is the pharmacy. I really like the staff, they are helpful and kind! But for groceries..head to Mariano's instead. read more

This place is ridiculous over priced on there fruits and vegetables they hit you coming right in the door. Everything has gone up. But I don't see the Quality get any better. The meats are nothing to talk about. You have 3 different shades of chicken And the same with the red meats. A gallon of milk is over 5 dollars with tax. I hate that pop prices are always Manipulated so we stop buy pop 3 dollars for a loaf of bread. I just try to avoid this store in general. If you like jewel I guess you'll pay whatever the price is. I just left the Jewel on Dundee Road in Palatine and I witnessed something very disturbing. Effective today, store employees are required to wear face masks. A manager by the name of Robert U. had what appeared to be a sock held by a string around his face. Customers were walking past him challenging him about the mask and he was being very rude and sarcastic to customers. This is a very sensitive time in our world and he was making the situation worse for our community, both healthwise, disobeying the governor's orders, and being very rude to customers. I was so disturbed by the whole interaction I left my cart and walked out of the store. read more

God forbid you need to buy flowers in Buffalo Grove because there are no damn florists anywhere. I'm from Los Angeles. People like to buy flowers here so we have florists, not the case in Buffalo Grove. You have lots of buildings and restaurants so if I wanna buy some flowers for my cousin, I have to drive like a freaking maniac looking for a florist that doesn't exist. I should have brought her a Sasquatch because there's more of chance of finding one of them in Buffalo Grove than finding a florist. Okay enough with the review build-up. This is my favorite Jewel to shop at! And I have shopped at a lot of them in my life. Most of the staff are great. Store is well organized and clean. Be careful with expiration dates though, you can get a very long date on most stuff if you look carefully. But you can also end up with already expired stuff. So they could do better at checking that stuff. Over all really like shopping here. Here is a tip- There is usually clearance on the end cap aisle by the freezer stuff and some liquor clearance at times after holidays. read more

I've noticed that this particular lacks some of the products/selection i have found at other jewels. This includes the sushi (you know you get the random cravings too) So far everyone i have dealt with there has been helpful and fairly polite. The store has been well maintained and remains clean as far as i see. Nothing has yet to happen that would make me steer clear of this location. read more

There are a lot of grocery stores in the area, but this is one of the top picks on my list. For general grocery needs, they have just about everything. Prices are pretty good, but have been getting higher as of late. I have found better prices at near competitors. I recommend finding a time to go there when it is not crowded. The staff members are helpful and friendly. I like the self check out options for when you don't have a lot of items. Overall look of the store is ok. The red brick exterior is different that what you usually see for Jewel stores. Parking is ok, but there are no lights to get in or out, so getting a left out of there is a little tricky. read more

What happened to this place?? They recently "remodeled". Basically put new flooring in and changed the bins the produce are kept in. Seems like they are trying to be like Mariano's. I despise this store now. It's a very small store. Probably one of the smallest Jewels in the NW burbs. They did not make good use of the space with the new layout. Was much a better store before. Selection seems even smaller than before the change. Prices seem higher since the change. They got rid of the self check out :( Super sad about that. Those lines did seem to go the fastest. Bigger floral section with the same crappy selection of flowers. The main force that drove me to write this is the lack of selection. I stopped in to grab a tombstone pizza (cupboard is bare and I didn't feel up to full blown grocery shopping). Pretty basic item, every jewel carries a good variety of the Tombstone brand. Come to find that half of the pizza shelves are totally empty. With only a handful of sausage Tombstone pizzas. A) I'm a vegetarian and B) I wouldn't ingest that sausage even if I ate meat. I couldn't believe my eyes. Really I stood there for a minute hoping my usual xtra cheese pizza would pop up. It didn't. Ended taking a piece of garbage Gino's East pizza. It was disgusting! Took a few bites and threw the rest out. Waste of the few precious dollars to my name. Was even tempted to take it back, cooked and missing a few bites. As I sit here still hungry, with a terrible taste in my mouth, I can't help but hope this store fails. Jewel doesn't deserve to win this and it won't. Mariano's is still going to crush them and their sad attempt to become something they are not. Only thing this place has got going for it is the staff. I feel sorry for those people. Jewel had an awesome clearance selection of great summer beer, candy and Mac n cheese on super sale... My cart looked like I was buying groceries for a frat house. I must commend Jewel on their amazingly improved customer service (at least at this jewel) these guys were pleasant and even let me do like six transactions because unbeknownst to me there was a limit on one of the sales. Even took me over to the customer service area and let me cut in line due to a problem with one of the transactions. I must admit I'm a sucker for a good shopping experience. So kudos jewel, you've just earned another loyal customer :) read more

I never fail to have an uncomfortable experience at this place. During my most recent visit the lady at the register recognized me from my work and started complaining about her last visit at my store. She took forever to give me my change back as she went into detail and pretty much expected an apology from me. She gave me attitude during the entire transaction. My boyfriend tried to defend me, but she just gave him a dirty look. So I vowed to complain about my experience here. The employees are rude and unhelpful. The store is unorganized and poorly stocked. Coming from someone who works in customer service: these employees need to be taught how to treat people respectfully. Or at least smile. read more

If you want to shop at this Jewel don't park your car in their lot! This is regarding a loss on a friends vehicle while legally parked in Jewel Osco lot. Sedgwick Claims Management Services is a 3rd party administrator for insurance companies that wish to remain anonymous. In this case they are handling the claim for Jewel Osco Food and Drugs of Mundelein a subsidiaries of Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons. All we wanted was an answer (yes or no) to claim coverage, 20 days later no answer! Simple loss: Date of loss: 11/19/2015 parked vehicle legally in Jewel lot in Mundelein, 50 mph winds, no lot attendant. Unattended cart hits the vehicle causing $800.00+ in damages Presented claim to Jewel who reported to their carrier who contracted with Sedgwick Claims Management Service to settle the claim. Claim facts are undisputable as according to Sedgwick there is security video of the incident and there are weather reports that will substantiate the wind speeds (available on-line.) Sedgwick claims that Jewel is not cooperating Jewel has to send the video from their security camera via USPS mail to them and as of this writing 12/9/15 no resolution has been reached. I asked why the video was not E-mailed they told me that is not how it works (this is used as a stall tactic), this is 2015 everything moves via the internet (including video). They are handling the claim as a non standard (specialized) insurance does duck, dodge and hide. They are rude and only return calls when Jewel is called and then Jewel calls them. My friend now shops at Jewel only to buy sale items on non windy days and only once a week, she used to be there 3-4 times a week (she is a volunteer at hospitals and bakes cakes and other items as gifts) and Mundelein Jewel was the only store she shopped at for over 20 years. She now shops at Mariano's where the store is cleaner, there are lot attendants and better prices. read more

I ABSOLUTELY despise this place, can't understand how it stays in business and if it was the only grocery store around I would shop at the gas station! From their ready to expire food, to their moronic and grotesque employees, even if you try to run in just to pick up a box of their stale cereal, bag of their slimy sandwich meat, and one of their rock hard candy bars, it will take at least 15 minutes and you will leave feeling like you were just in the cantina from Star Wars. You've got Jabba the Hut behind the deli counter waddling around asking you half a dozen times what it is you want again; Greedo in the cereal aisle getting in your way while arranging boxes to make the shelves look more full than they are, then you've got your choice of bald Darth Vader with glasses, the T-Rex from Jurassic Park with their dual wrist guards or Sloth from the Goonies with halitosis to give you a thousand yard stare and a grunt before tossing your items into the unmanned bagging area. After bagging your own items you may think this is where the nightmare ends...but you'd be sorely mistaken. Remember when you got there and you saw Rocky Dennis rounding up carts in the parking lot? Oh yes, you better hurry as fast as you can if you don't want to run into the next three customers who think they have the right of way coming in the exit because Rocky Dennis is blocking the entrance, sidewalk, and street with every shopping cart in the place at once. read more

I come here often, Like 3 to 4 times a week, and I feel like this is my home grocery place to go. People are friendly and they have my favorite kombucha! Bring back the strawberry flavor!!! Their salad bar is great and the side hot bar is great also. This place is up to date with their organics and their freshly made juices they make. I went to Jewel the other day. I usually go to the cashier that is deaf because he has to read lips (Jeff) and I think that is pretty amazing and he is so kind and always happy with everyone even if they do not cooperate with looking at him when they speak. He must be a super duper patient guy! Then the dudes and ladies that bag the groceries in that aisle are usually special needs and are always full of joy and are super careful with all my groceries. I think they can be the most uplifting people on earth when you have a bad day. I am so thankful for Jewel having such wonderful people work for them! I believe they are called "Special Needs" because they have such a SPECIAL and sweet spirit of Joy and compassion that we all NEED these wonderful souls in our lives to make the day a little brighter. Next time you are in Jewel look at their name tag and say their name and thanks for the great job! And if you ever get Jeff at the cashier (Jewel Palatine, IL) line he will do a great job, look at him when you speak and he will give you a smile.
