Stopped in Thursday around 5:30 p.m. and needed help in the liquor department. The cashier was very helpful and called someone over, but unfortunately the associate who came was rude and took forever to assist me. She asked if the shelf was empty, even though that's exactly why I was asking for help. When I thanked her and walked away, she made a unnecessary comment about what I was buying. The cashier even knew exactly who I was referring to when I mentioned the interaction. Customer service isn't for everyone, but there's no reason to be rude to customers who are simply asking for help. read more

I frequently order groceries for pickup because of my schedule, and this is now the third time my order has been delayed without any notification. I've tried to be understanding, as I know staffing issues can happen, but it's becoming frustrating. Customers choose pickup for convenience and reliability, and the expectation is that orders will be ready during the selected time slot. If the store is unable to fulfill orders within certain windows, those time slots shouldn't be available. What's especially disappointing is that I placed this order three hours in advance on a Wednesday, so I was surprised it still wasn't ready on time. This location is usually pretty good about having orders prepared when promised, which is why these repeated delays have been frustrating. I would simply appreciate better communication and more accurate pickup timing going forward. read more

Customer service was awful. The person getting carts asked me to move as a was getting a cart with my two children. Then the cashier rang up an item and the price was incorrect but refused to change it and made me wait (with my children) for 10 minutes while she checked the price and still refused to correct it and refused to call a manager for me to speak with. I have had wonderful experiences at other jewel locations but this location is awful with positive customer experiences (not the first negative experience I've had at this location). I have purchased fish from this store on a few occasions without an issue. As of February of this year, I have bought fish 4 times and each time the fish was stinking. Im not sure why they think it's ok to sell fish that is on its way to going bad. BE AWARE OF THE FISH! I called the manager and he told me about all the inspections they have and that he checks it himself daily. I cant imagine the manager couldn't smell the odor! These jackwagons cancelled my COVID vaccine appointment on the day it was scheduled, with no warning or offer to reschedule, forcing me to spend weeks searching for a location to get the life-saving vaccination they promised. Albertsons has no shame. This location has no pride, or they would have treated their community, the people who live here, a helluva lot better than they do. Let me start out with saying I have been shopping this store for over 20 years Wow has it gone down hill. Sale items always out of stock, primarily shelf empty. Secondary location are stocked but not with popular flavors, telling me the store doesn't use scan data when building displays. Store takes away shelf space for NEW ITEMS, thus taking away good products. Again not using proper scan data when removing products. Deli staff does not always use the number system, instead calls out who's next. 6 people say I AM !! Meat department is now hit or miss, although the last few visits the steaks were very good and trimmed well. Bakery department is stocked well and fresh. Floral department is stocked well and fresh. Customer service which I deal with regularly due to having to get 2-3 rain checks weekly is hit or miss , usually no one at service desk. They are out by registers or self check outs. Baggers......just plan on bagging your own. *I HATE RAIN CHECKS ..... It is about 4:00 PM on December 20, 2023. Again I walked a couple of aisles this time instead of the whole store. Let me just start by saying I have been a manager for big hotels and other big stores for over 45 years. I passed a couple of employees and one person cut me off and the other employees just walked right by me like I didn't exist. This time they had more cashiers than the last time I was here a couple of days ago. I was standing In someone else's lane and I happened to look over and I saw Sue that waited on me last time and gave me excellent service and made my day and I switched over to her lane. Not even thinking twice switching lanes. I had an amazing experience again with Sue. The customer service with Sue was top notch. I told Sue thank you for the wonderful experience she gave me always friendly and helpful and outstanding service. This is a rarity nowadays. She answered all my questions promptly and professionally. I was completely impressed with her professionalism and customer service. Nowadays you only hear about the bad things people do and not the good things people do. Sue seems she would get along with everybody that she comes in contact with. I hope this review reaches Sue. I could not be happier with my check out experience. I can't wait to be helped by Sue again soon. read more

I used to love going to Jewel. The produce, bakery, flowers, and deli PRODUCTS are excellent. The staff has been great in the past, but recently socializing amongst each other is a higher priority than serving the customer. Heck I just waited for 4 people to get done chatting and laughing, then when I asked for service I was mocked, finally got service and had my food casually tossed at me with out so much as a "have a nice day" or "thank you for shopping". Maybe I'm wrong or have high expectations, but you hand people their food. Either way I left it there, cause I'm not ok with that. I'm not sure what happened there cause the staff used to be better than what they have been. Regardless, even though it costs more, looks like Meijers will be getting my business from now on. Which shouldn't bother Jewel employees, less customers equals more time for them to socialize! read more

It's a grocery store and this particular store is the closest to me, so here is where we go to do our grocery shopping. It's not my favorite place, I'd prefer a Dominic's, if one was close by. Nonetheless, this location is a clean store, the shelves stay stocked and the staff are friendly... particularly the two usual guys in the vegetable/fruit department. Their bakery is a little disappointing, although I must say in this area, I've not found a supermarket who's bakery is really that good. The people at the deli counter are quick, but I find the selection is somewhat limited, especially for Ham and Cheeses. The Meat department is good and I generally find some pretty good cuts of beef and using the Angus selections, I've grilled up some fantastic steaks purchased here. The seafood department is a bit disappointing and I'm thinking however this is a midwest type of thing... nothing like fresh fish which you get on the coasts. The rest of the store is the typical aisles filled with the items you would expect in a grocery store. The aisles are wide, the store is well lit and once you go a few times, you'll have the layout memorized and can quickly retrieve a specific item quickly. I find if you get here just as they open at 6am, you can get thru your shopping really quick, but you may have to dodge around the vendors brining in palates of bread & sodas. The self check out at this location is also good... not too temperamental and you don't get hung up on silly things as you can in other self checkouts in other locations. read more

I love my jewel osco since it is right around the corner from home. Everyone is always helpful and friendly, seeing if you need any assistance, and as listed in my quick tip, they let you special order many items (at no cost) if you have difficulty finding a product stocked. That's really my only complaint is that they used to carry vanilla coke, but not usually anymore; but at least I can stock up during holiday sales via special orders and rainchecks. HEY- I NEED my vanilla coke, okay??? Hahaha I'm an addict! ;) One of my banks, TCF, is here too, so that's convenient. They also rent carpet shampooers and have a Coinstar. read more

Jewel and Dominick's used to be the 2 big guys in the grocery market. With the down economy, these stores are looking more and more deserted every time I'm in it seems. The big box store going into the grocery business is taking it's toll. The meats, just talking about beef, used to be at least choice grade beef. Now, to stay competitive in prices, they also serve up the utility grade beef. So, buyer beware. If you buy utility grade, be prepared to do a good deal of chewing. You may even need the hacksaw!!! The service in these stores is still a lot better though. Go to Garden Fresh and many of the staff speak Mexican and not English. The manager there is an ass too. Go to Butera and they speak english, but the meat is almost all low grade meat. So, patronize these old time grocery stores if you get a chance and help keep them in business. read more

I really like this store and have been shopping here for years. I'm having issues with how they're handling the COVID requirements. Well they do have big signs up saying masks are required, I've been in the store to see customers walking around without masks and the staff will not address it due to fear of violence. What does one expect from a chain grocer? Its clean, but has very little organic, which is what we often try for. Prices did come down recently (within the last 1-2 yrs) from previous, which is why we had initially stopped going. It varies from ad to ad, and with Aldi down the street, Jewel needs to keep competitive because i'm not afraid to go from one store to the next. One income here, Jewel! Oh, and good job on your gluten free aisle. Make it even bigger, please :) EDIT: John from the meat department was INCREDIBLY helpful to my husband and I. We had quite a few questions about the soup bones Jewel offers and our ability to perhaps grind up chicken wings etc (our pups are on a raw diet), but he had said he couldn't grind the bones, but any meat wouldnt be a problem. As far as the soup bones, he told us to call in ahead of time and they would cut those up for us. He went WAY above and beyond to help, coming out around the meat department counter and inspecting different cuts, etc. JEWEL, PROMOTE HIM! He was awesome! If I could go below one star ... I would. I picked up a whole sheet cake for my daughter's 30th birthday and it started with the person in the bakery picking it up by both ends, instead of supporting it in the middle. Then I get home and open it up to see that my 3 year old granddaughter could have written the message on the cake better ... along with the "bend" in the middle ... WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY UGLY CAKE! Seriously, pay the extra money for Lovin Oven. Had Loving Oven not been on a weeks vacation, I would have ordered it from them. was good before they got new owners now they have more produce but I got avocados their and they were black when I cut them open- thought it was a bad mistake so went again now I got Avocados not ripe enough to cut and spread. I also got strawberries that day. Got home to discover that they had mold on them- I did not inspect them to get detail at store just trusted that they would sell me good fruit. Also on that shopping trip I got Turkey that expired the day they sold it to me. Tried to use a $20 gift certificate/check from Butterball here. They told me it is store policy not to accept them on anything but Butterball products, even though the certificate clearly states that this check can be used on any groceries in the store, not just butterball products. Took the certificate over to Mariano's grocery store down the road and they gladly accepted it. I told the cashier about my experience at Jewel and she told me she worked there in the past and the management at Jewel is backwards. Mariano's just gained a customer for life. read more

1) 6-11-2016 I don't usually review grocery stores but thought, " how can they improve if they don't hear the criticisms." I asked at the seafood counter about the fresh Sockeye Salmon featured in the flyer and was told he would get it in the following business day by request only because it costs $30.00 a pound. It's pretty much the only choice in the area, thus as the only real grocer in the area - you get to decide your standards. Store is clean, good selection, ok prices. If you're able to drive a little bit further, head to Gurnee where you can find Jewel, Dominick's and Target within close proximity of each other - price comparison and competition! read more

The people who work here are great. They have a good selection of products too, but their parking lot stinks. They had to reconstruct it in the past couple of years. They took out several parking spaces to create a new exit. Instead of doing it right, they merely painted over the old yellow lines with black paint. Customers still insist on parking there. It is an absolute hazard and the store does nothing about it. I've had too many close calls where people have nearly hit me head on because they can't see around these cars that are parked in the exit. Some people are not using their common sense when they park and Jewel will not use its common sense and fix the area properly, clearly marking the difference between parking spots and road way. Jewel, stop being so cheap or you are going to lose a long time customer. This parking lot is not worth it. read more

I went to the Jewel in Gurnee and in Grayslake last week looking for some flowers for a special event. I could not find anything until I went to the Round Lake store. Cathy helped me to pick some items and she wrapped everything so beautifully and carefully because it was so cold outside. Staff from the produce section and throughout the store offered help. Honestly, when I have gone in the produce department is below the standards. There are moldy fruits and vegetables and it seems as if they don't even check their fruit. When I walk towards the salad wall, sometimes I can hear yelling from what looks like a manager. Seems to be yelling at one of his employees who seemed to be working quite fast. When I am in different departments, I find expired or about to expire food. Some of the staff are willing to help others act too busy to help you at all. read more

The people at Jewel are pleasant and the store is clean. Some of their sale flyers are misleading and confusing. Buy 5 of these items to get this price or 4 of these and then not all varieties so you check out and find out you paid full price. Since discounts are taken off at the end unless you study the receipt you don't know what you are paying while at the check out. Never met an employee that did not speak English which is a big plus. read more

This use to be my go to store since it was so close. Now I will officially never shop there again.... They have the rudest and most unhelpful staff I have ever come across. There is a customer service lady (think Judy) is her name that wears glasses... she had the gall to follow us around and accuse us of steeling a two week old newspaper which we brought into the store for coupons. She never apologized. Then on another trip I didn't have my Jewel card and asked the cashier to put in my phone number because the keypad was frozen and she rolled her eyes and said that's what the keypad was for. I also had the nerve to ask her if they priced matched and she said no, which is something their competitors are doing.. On another trip I was looking for more Pirate Booties and they refused to go in back to check stock and not telling me that whatever stock was available was out just simply said, I am busy can you come back. Um no and I won't be back. What stinks is that this is one of the few grocery stores that has the cars attached to the shopping carts to keep my son occupied. Oh well... The Dominicks in Gurnee doesn't have the best produce but they have always had a smile on their face and have been more than willing to help in any way.... read more
