Haven't been to a Pete's outside of the city before but I'm glad I decided to stop by this one near Danada on my way home because it is a fantastic option for groceries and more. The produce section alone was worth it with stacks of fresh fruit and veggies everywhere and good competitive prices for everything and even samples available to try. Very helpful when it came to deciding whether the cantaloupe was worth it or not. I would even argue that the produce is better than at the Jewel AND Whole Foods down the road. The store is well-kept and clean throughout. The bakery, meat and cheese departments and the hot food/salad bar area are great. They have several made-to-order options that looked good and worth trying. Some of the standouts were the broasted chicken, pizza and sushi. For such a fresh looking assortment of dishes to be available at 1pm was a big enticement to come back to grab something for lunch next time I'm in the area. As far as grocery options I would be surprised if you couldn't find what you were looking for in such an expansive store. Was visiting a hospitalized family member in the area and Pete's was recommended to me for lunch instead of eating at the hospital cafeteria. Wow! The options were endless and so different from what I'm used to at my local supermarkets out-of-state. I had a delicious lunch of roast lamb and a few potato wedges. So good! I strolled through every aisle, taking in the wonderful variety of products. The entire market was clean and well-organized, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I grabbed a box and filled it with an assortment of gorgeous cookies to share with family and a separate box for the nurses back at the hospital. I did visit other Pete's locations during my trip, but this one was my favorite. I wish I lived closer, but I would definitely visit this market again on future trips! read more

Very fully stocked with many varieties of fresh produce and packaged veggies (already washed), many locally grown. I love how the store is very well lit, is very clean and well organized. Cheese and olive choices galore, specialty breads (the only place nearby to find Original brand bagels). I looked for Tahini for the first time ever, and found so many varieties in the International aisle! They have recently expanded and relocated the organic produce section. Love it! At one end is the Lotus Cafe & Bar and the restrooms. Very conducive to having a casual meeting there. This branch's cafe is always very clean and not noisy. read more

This is one of the cleanest grocery stores I've ever been to with so much to offer. Their fresh squeezed juices are the best I have tasted, and of course their signature Illy coffee bar. I was just disappointed by their hot food salad bar. The hot vegetable soup was very disappointing. It was filled with pimentos. After removing them before I ate it the soup just tasted solely of pimentos and was not appetizing. I had gotten the cooked cauliflower but when I went to eat it it was very hard and not cooked. The shredded smoked salmon was very good but the creole shrimp was not. Some of the pieces were mushy and didn't seem cooked and I just couldn't eat it. Earlier in the day I tried the mango and berries which I thought would be excellent. I ate some and then felt kind of sick for a few hours. I don't know whether they are spraying some kind of preservative on them or what was the matter but I know I will not try their food bar again! read more

I love Pete's and I shop there weekly for everything that I cannot find at Walmart. Within the last couple of months, I have noticed that they changed their business model with respect to their meat and fish counter. EVERYTHING is prepackaged. They no longer have fish on ice or individual cuts of meat. Last Sunday, I wanted to purchase skirt steak which come two ways, inner cut and outer cut. Outside skirt steak is better. They had inner skirt steak so I asked the man stocking the meat area If they had outer skirt steak, he said, not until summer...that makes no sense. The week before I asked one of the meat stockers if they could break down a 2 lb. package because I only need 1 lb. And was told, "no, this is what we have" I pressed him about why and he unhappily went in the back and did it. I can honestly say that there's only one guy working in the meat area that is consistently friendly and willing to help with requests. read more

They did it again! I was checking out at the Wheaton store, and I told the clerk, "I'm not eating the hot food here," but they still charged me 8 percent tax on it (shrimp, some rice, and broccoli). I told them, that's nonalcoholic fruit juice (but yes, was found in alcohol area), and was charged 8 percent tax on it, and they did not believe me at first, that it had no alcohol in it. Why are they charging people extra tax? I did email them. Seems to me like they've incorrectly coded lots of stuff. In Jewel, Mariannos, Whole Foods.....never was I charged 8 percent tax on anything except alcohol. Check your receipts!! Pete's is charging you 8 percent on a lot of random items, which is what you pay at restaurants to eat out--not at a grocery store. I paid $6.30 on $66.00 of my grocery bill--so while I like Pete's, I'm thinking maybe I'll go back to Whole Foods. What I save on regular groceries, I pay back in incorrect tax. And, just to place this in context, Whole Foods asks you "are you eating in store?" to get the tax amount correct. Oberweiss charged me $.86 cents on a $25.00 ice cream order, because one item (the shake) was going to be eaten as a to go item, which I understand. They did not charge me tax on the cartons of ice cream, clearly not going to be consumed in store. So Pete's: what's up with the overtaxing? is that really going to the govt or are you pocketing it as extra profit for your corporation. Is it a hidden way of making prices higher? read more

Such a pleasant grocery story visit! It was relatively easy to find someone to help me locate the salsa. He was so kind and when I passed him on my way to checkout he wanted to know what kind I chose. So friendly! At checkout, there was a backup on the two lanes open so they opened up a new lane for the people waiting and then saw I only had two items so they grabbed me personally to checkout at the customer service counter. App is a disaster. I was used to the ease of Jewel where I downloaded all sale items and then did my shopping. Both trips to Pete's took 20 minutes to check out and this weekend got an extra treat where $30 of products were rang up twice because cashiers register kept crashing. Drove home only to find mistake, drove back to get credited back duplicate charges. Response from customer service at store was I hope you don't have far to drive. Called corporate customer service who advised me that the instructions on how to use App is on their FAQ and that I should only download coupons I plan on using. I said I felt the store owed me at least my gas money and the woman said they did not feel any compensation was necessary. Poor Customer Service on top of poor coupon app makes for a bad experience. read more

Looks like my last review was mysteriously "removed" so I will post a second time..This store is beautiful but looks are deceiving..Fruit is bad every time I purchase..Bags of apples, berries, ect..The worst is their rottiserie chicken..I've tried purchasing so many times and called the manager regarding the lack of quality (they are now literally half the size of container!) but price keeps going up..The manager claims he called the company and said there's nothing they can do..Wow that's a great solution! And keep carrying in your store this garbage..Also they take all the chickens around 7p and put in the back-WHAT? Ridiculous..Whenever I use Instacart, their out of so many items, EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! I love me a good international market that offers good value and variety. I frequented Pete's in Chicago so I knew what I was in for. At least so I thought. This Pete's is new, clean, and offers a nice variety of shopping, browsing, and dining in for a informal lunch or dinner. I absolutely love the variety of prepared foods and hot foods that you can order. Sushi, poké, ramen, BBQ, tacos, pizza, and more. Customer service is friendly, and the store is maintained very well with everything stocked and cleaned. Check out the baked goods section for a nice assortment of goodies that you won't find so easily at other places. All this is to say that I will be back to shop, eat, and more. Totally love the high quality and unique produce and dairy options at Pete's! However, I absolutely cannot stand how many plastic grocery bags they use when bagging. So many of my groceries were in their own bag which is not only wasteful, but also not efficient at all. One normal box of Raisin Bran had its own bag, as well as my bag of pretzel crisps. I am usually traveling and without my reusable bags when I visit Pete's (my bad), but I am quite frustrated that the alternative is 16 grocery bags for $80 of groceries. At Trader Joe's, a comparable trip would consist of 2 paper bags. I love the selection, but I need more sustainable choices to be a regular customer. read more

I was going here at least three times a week versus now only once in the last month. There were several deciding factors the water that I drink went soaring in price from $2.99 to $4.99, I bought Lobster Tails got them home some were rotten, many of the staff cannot speak English nor do they comprehend, and the most important factor my favorite cashier transferred to another location. read more

This is the soft opening of Pete's Market before the grand opening next week. What used to be the old Whole Foods in Rice Lake Square has been transformed into a big, bright space. The pros here seem to be variety, prepared foods and a big take-out area on the south end. They carry Boars Head in the deli and lots of local brands. The one main con seems to be that everything I was looking for I get cheaper at Marianos! So they are going to have to get more competitive. That said, there's a lot to look at here and I found a few rarities like guava Jarritos pop. Worth checking out if you are in Wheaton. read more

Dear lord, where to begin. I used to love coming here, and especially when I got the hot food. The selection was fantastic. I don't know what happened, but there is only one hot food table, and it's the same old stuff. In addition, their employees are rude beyond belief, and at least half can't speak/understand simple English. Look, I don't know where management gets their people, but words like empathy, sympathy, and phrases like "customer care" are foreign to them. I just had a guy make fun of how I was dressed and laughed when I asked for a fork. I'm sure gonna miss this place. read more

Same thing again today an item came up wrong. It says you get the blue bunny ice cream for $3.99 either a tub or 6 to 9 count novelties so I bought a six count novelty box and of course the item did not come up on the scanner so when she called the manager over I saw it's the same rude lady. Supposedly she's a manager if she's a manager she needs a crash course on how to deal with people immediately !! I had to deal with her nasty attitude last time and of course she's sitting there arguing it and telling me I can only get the tub of ice cream and I'm like that's not what the ad says are you looking at it?? I know she doesn't understand because I'm not trying to be ignorant but I don't think she speaks English enough to understand it and I'm like well I'm right can you just price correct it she takes the item I'm gonna go to a price check no I'm not waiting 20 minutes like I did last time just to find out I'm right again and get a nice big healthy dose of attitude along with it ! I'm like but I'm showing you the ad. How is that gonna make a difference? I'm like you know what just take it off and now I've reported her to upper management there because I'm really tired of this if the items don't scan right and I'm standing there with the ad showing you that I'm right why is it not being corrected and why is she so nasty about it and rude. I have to say that the staff here above all what make the place so friendly. I was walking in the beverage aisle, and one of the employees stocking shelves started a conversation with me. That almost never happens to me. Every time I go to the counter to pay, the cashier and the bagger do make it a more personable experience with their professional and hospitable service. I casually threw a fork in one bag, but the bagger took the bag out of my bag for me and put it with the ready-to-eat food. She was so nice. I cannot say how personal and human the shopping experience is here. When they first unveiled the "credit card only" aisles, I missed the signs, but they didn't make me go to a cash register, they just walked over to the customer service desk and did the transaction for me. read more

Pete's market food four station are is on stereos. This grocery chain is gonna give Mariano's a run for its money. Sushi burritos and really good miso ramen yum! Their hot stations are amazing! Customer service top notch. They have an organic juice station and bakery is loaded from breads to fancy donuts and bread pudding. Try not to pick up something from that section! Lol I love this market with international fair and upscale grocery store shopping experience. read more

Yes, Pete's has a massive selection. It doesn't mean much when there is such a lack of customer service. You can never find anyone to help. The staff at the registers never interact with the customers. They talk to each other but not to the customer. They never make eye contact or ask if you found everything you needed. They never ask if you need help. You walk up and down the isles but never see any stock people or employees. It's like a ghost town. Weird. No help. Zero warmth. No attempt to get to know their customers. Prices are too high. Very poor and very expensive personal care section (lotions, skincare, bath products). Very poor laundry and cleaning product section but you can find a hundred different teas and sausages. Bizarre. I prefer shopping at the Jewel across the street. Sure, they don't carry Bulgarian yogurt or 57 kinds of preserves, but they know and care about their customers. They're warm and helpful. When you walk up and down the isles, they greet you and ask if you are finding all you need. Delightful warm staff. If you need help, they're there for you! Pluses at Pete's are a very good and extensive produce department (but no one available to ask questions or help) and the store is exceptionally clean. read more

Wow is my first reaction. I'm a fan of wholefoods but this may top it. Went in for lunch at the hot and cold bar really impressive selections and lots of them. We should have gotten a basket to carry everything in. Granddaughter picked fruit salad, a little bit of candy apple sale (recommendation from clerk) and some spicy wings. I got a piece of lemon chicken and a little of the chicken Alfredo. Granddaughter said it's the best fruit salad she's ever had and lots of coconut in it. We really liked everything we go. We also got some mango salsa and chips for later snacking. Store has so many great areas. The cheese shop area looked so good. I feel like I need to go back and spend a hour really looking at everything vs just scanning to see what they have. Store was incredibly clean including the hot and cold bar area. Omg this place has SO MUCH INVENTORY. Not only the fresh produce but the ready buffet food and meats and packaged foods, EVERYTHING. It seems like they carry every single brand of every single item from every single distributor. Too many choices and so much waste I'd imagine! Don't get me wrong, the aisles look beautiful with all of the different brands of inventory with nothing even close to being out of stock but I fear for the items they won't be able to sell and they will go bad. I'm not sure about the price, I don't live here so I wouldn't be able to compare. read more

This review is for two of my new favorite things: Pete's Fresh Cafe, and its fabulous bartender/barista, Shannon. I'm actually here right now with my girl Lisa and my laptop, working on a new book, enjoying their free/fast wi-fi, sipping a $2 beer-on-tap special (Solemn Oath), and wallowing in a food coma induced with some badass, filled-to-the-top fresh-grilled tacos (3 for $7). We had steak, pork and chicken with some kind of fresh green salsa. Hell yeah. They have ground beef and Tilapia too if interested. Please tell me anywhere else you can get all this for the money? This same thing would cost 3 times as much around here, easily, and without the chill cafe hang. Their food bar closes at 7pm or being taken down at that time. It is good and get that they have to take down and clean, but why not wait till like around closing? Retail store workers clean stores after it closes. It is hard to sell or buy food when it is not available and not everyone can shop between 9-7 during day . The cashier are usually friendly, but lately not so much. They should invest in shelf checkouts and keeping food bar open later so people can purchase vs. throwing in trash. read more

Came here with my sister on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020. I rarely shop here, but she wanted to go. The store is clean and has a lot of variety. But I don't like shopping here because the overhead music is incredibly loud and makes my shopping experience awful. This is not a bar and club. Why is it that SO MANY stores have the music so loud that a person just can't go shopping and hear people conversing (restaurants too!). It's already difficult to hear people wearing masks. Why not turn up the overhead music and get us out of here ASAP? read more

Great selection for groceries, even a good-sized section (more like an island) of vegan stuff! Aisles are always well stocked, quite an accomplishment for such a huge store. Staff here are also always very friendly! Prepared foods/food court does need work though. At $8.99/lb (For both salad and hot items), food fell short of expectations for me. Brisket was not flavorful and tough to bite and chew. Most meats have way too much BBQ sauce slathered on top, I guess to add weight. Also bits of really hardened meat shows they have sat under the heat too long. Passed by the wings section, where dipping sauces had this thick layer of sauce on top. Makes it very tempting for me to lift the pans to see if there is any sort of labeling to indicate how long these items have been out. Be careful on salads!!! Please do not just grab a bunch off the top and rush out. I've personally picked around a good amount of browning salad. I tried one of their pizza slices. I believe it was 2.99? Not bad. They heat it up for you in a pizza oven too! Takes a few minutes, but fresh baked is worth it! Well, besides the fact my slice got cold extremely quick after. I do reeeally hope the conditions of the food court improve. You have super nice workers, but for the price (Wholefoods price), the product is not up to par. Labels, hourly checks, whatever it takes. My wife and I used to drive to their store In Oak Brook Terrace. This one is larger with a much greater selection and huge ready to eat foods. I read a tribune article recently that highlighted the family and the fact that the daughters run the day to day operations. It stated that most shoppers are women and they can better understand what needs to be stocked. Sounds plausible. I just know that I really enjoy the food. read more
