Thanks City Hats for the fantastic lid!

I mean, come on. This hat is PERFECT. I went all over town looking for a replacement for my beloved Worth & Worth fedora. Who knew I'd find it right up the street from Katz's? I couldn't ask for better service and selection. The style, shape and color put a smile on my face even when I'm wearing the f###ing mask. Thanks for giving me back my swag!

This place is amazing with wonderful customer service... I was on vacation here on my last night in town, passed by the store in the Uber and looked up the place since I was looking to get into hats. I looked the place up and saw that it closed online in a few mins. I called the place and was made aware that they were opened for another hour for the night. I arrived with a hour to spare. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. All my questions were answered. The hat I came for was made by a local artist that City hats is in partnership with, and they called him who came a picked my hat up in a couple mins. I put another hat together with still great customer service with all my questions. The hat I had made was completed and mailed to my house with no issues. Everything worked so smoothly and I'm very happy with my purchase. Thanks again!! Will always visit this place when in town!

these folks are really unpleasant. I was looking at a hand full of hats and was physically threatened on my way out. Do not go here. Ever.

I am new to formal headwear, and my father suggested that I go here for a proper fitting and customization. I was excited about it! It felt like a next step in my adulthood as I grow into a middle-aged vibe. I took my 12-year-old son to show him the difference in quality between a mass retailer and a bespoke, local, small business retail experience. I splurged +1k on 3 new hats. I love them, but the service was nothing like it used to be, as I understand it. This is where I would give it a much lower rating if it weren't such a great little spot. 2 Stars: The two young women working were not very knowledgeable, seemed quite apathetic, and essentially left me to my own devices to sort fit, shape, etc. out. They answered questions about care adequately and showed me several hats that I asked to see, but in a detached way. In short, it was a very disappointing experience and not bespoke at all. My father was mystified when I told him about it. I don't generally leave reviews, good or bad, unless things go too far. But after reading through the low reviews, often from long-term loyal customers who lament experiences similar to mine and the recent change in ownership, I am bothered by the defensiveness in the owner's replies. Many of them say [the milliner has resigned due to health, and therefore we no longer offer shaping or repair services] or [come in for a chat to correct your misinformation]. WHAT?! That is how you respond? On a public forum? Marketing yourself as a luxury shop but responding like a cranky clerk? Why not hire a new milliner? Or train a new one? Find a way to outsource it in the meantime. But telling decades-long high-paying customers to do it themselves at home over a kettle...what are you talking about? Should I learn to tailor and do dry cleaning in my bathtub, too? Turns out, the problem is top-down. The new owner has clearly wrecked this place and doesn't seem to care; it's all about her. Another NYC institution bites the dust. All of that said, it's a unique place. One of the last vestiges. Go there.

A week later, I received an email saying the hat had arrived. When I got to the store, the employee told me the wrong hat was ordered. I said fine, here's my number -- return it and get the correct one. Another week goes by, and when I come back, the same hat is still sitting in the box -- not even returned. Lazy employees, no urgency, and the store feels more like a hangout spot than a place of business. Customers shouldn't have to deal with this kind of nonsense. The sales rep never processed the return, so I had to request a refund myself. Still no hat, just wasted time and money (including paying for parking in SoHo). All I heard was, "Oh, I'm sorry." Sorry doesn't fix terrible service. Completely unprofessional -- everything about this place is trash. The store needs serious management or maybe just let AI run it because at least robots would do the job.

A few weeks later, I walked by again and there was no hat class in progress. I popped in just to see what EVH is all about, as I love super niche businesses like this. I walked in and the owner was helping out a few other people, so I just perused around for a second. I had my airpods in with no music playing, hiding in plain sight. I heard the owners AWESOME British accent and thought to myself "wow it's really a vibe in here." At this exact moment, I spotted a hat that really caught my eye. It was a hat that had a mix matched denim pattern that could be paired with almost any outfit. I had a vision of me buying this hat and it becoming an integral part of my personality. "Oh, there goes the guy with the cool hat walking up 1st ave" onlookers would say as they walked by, jealous of my cool new hat. Cute girls would come up to me at the Wayland and or Ding-a-Ling saying "Oh my god, I love your hat!" ... "You haven't been to East Village Hats!??!?!?!" I would respond to them with a cheeky, endearing smile. However, when I picked up the hat it was like $130 and that's just out of my price range for a hat at this moment. Also, I have an extremely large head so the hat was probably a pipe dream all along. A man could dream can't he...?
