As she was making new dishes in the kitchen she would bring samples out to the tables for patrons to try and provide feedback. She would explain which recipes were hers and which were her Mother's. Jib-bob is an amazing little restaurant. This place is different in a very good way. The outside and interior of the building are filled with the artworks of the owner. It creates a very interesting atmosphere. The service is a bit slow because the owner makes every dish. I assure you that it's worth the wait. The food is authentic and delicious. Y'all...this is my latest discovery. First visit I had the Duru Chigi (marinated pork w/carrots and onions and steamed rice). It was delicious! So much so that the next day I went back and had the Dak Gal Bi (marinated chicken breast w/carrots and onions and steamed rice) it was very good as well. Next I will try the shrimp and then the short ribs (you know I will update you as applicable). This place is so cute on the outside. Very artsy. There is outside seating and indoor seating. This is an absolutely mind blowing, authentic and charming Korean experience. Maya, the owner/ chef/ resident artist was wonderful and her food was fabulous. We live in the far north of the lower peninsula of Michigan where any Asian cuisine is pretty rare. When I ran across Jib-Bob on Yelp, we drove the 100 miles to Mt. Pleasant just for lunch! It was totally worth the drive! I love Korean food....I even make my own kimchi. ( FYI. Her kimchi is the best I've ever had!). I had the Soon-doobo jigae (excellent) and my wife had the beef bulgogi, which she loved. The banchan side dishes were all great and well worth the added price. Maya even introduced us to the perilla leaf in which she actually rolled the rice and fed us with our chopsticks! She has a great restaurant with beautiful art that she has done herself and even did the wooden statues with a chainsaw!! This was a 5 star meal! We were driving to the U.P. from southwest Michigan and stopped midway for lunch at Jib-Bob. Ohhhhh my goodness. Jib-Bob literally means "Mother's Homemade Cooking" and that is exactly what you get here. The owner, Maya, simply cooks the proper Korean food she has always known and loved, and shares it with her customers. We had an amazing array of banchan (side dishes), alongside boiling kimchi jigae (stew) with loads of pork and tofu, a huge portion of grilled marinated pork shoulder, jeon (savory pancake), chicken bibimbap (rice plate), and homemade mandoo (dumplings) with minced pork and vegetables. The food was so delicious and the atmosphere was super cute! There's a lot of cool art decor and the tables were spread out nicely, I loved that you could see directly into the kitchen, makes it feel more homey. My only complaint though is that they will double up people at tables. There were two couples that were put at the same table one chair apart. I don't mind that sort of thing, but I could tell one of the couples was uncomfortable, if you would not like this then I advise to either take a larger group or go on a night that's not super busy. The exterior is unique and welcoming. Enjoyed the meal. Had a chicken appetizer to share with my wife. I had the bul-go-gi, and my wife had Job-chae. She did not like the job-chae texture or flavor. The noodles were way too rubbery for her. I tried it, and while the flavor was ok but agree the texture was not for me The bul go girl was decent but lacked a little something that I could not put my finger on. I tried Maya's 냉면 (Naengmyeon) for the first time and it was over the top delicious! Such fresh ingredients made the dish an absolute delight and the spice level was perfect! Everything about this place is great! My wife and son got Bul go gi, I got bulgogi geongol, and my daughter got a ramen. My son kept talking about his meal on the way home. The owner gave us some special potato snack and some kimchi made with radishes. She explained a little to us about how she makes everything from scratch to make it healthy. It's impressive and miraculous to find a place in Mount Pleasant that takes you away from the bars and college life, and plants you right in a small cafe in South Korea. It's extremely inviting and the open kitchen showcases the amount of cash it really took to make this dream a reality. But then there's the big question - how's the food? It's pretty decent. I think I might be spoiled already being a fan of Korean food while also having restaurants around the state to gauge my level of quality. The food is not impressive, but is surely traditional - which might be what you want. For me, I wanted some budae jigae, but I had to settle for seolleongtang jigae, a light beef-broth stew with potato noodles. It came blazing hot and was pretty under seasoned. The the pieces of tender beef roast inside were under seasoned as well. Perhaps I'm just a salt junky, but it was not the best tasting. Sides were really great. Probably the best Kimchi in town and offers potato salad, which is wild and very admirable. This was probably the best part of my meal. I also got date tea, which tasted exactly as named. The pot I got for the tea was bad pourer, though, and I felt bad for spilling some. I had a really cute fish bowl tea cup. For 22$, there is definitely better Korean food (perhaps even nearby ), but it has great vibes. Perfect for a date! read more

If you are looking for a "traditional ' Korean meal this is the place to go. Have been more than ounce and the owner comes out to help even after the server. She is amazing! She offers extra sides to try so you know what to add cause Korean isn't American you need sides. You NEED to mix to get the full experience. All the dishes I've had were great. But if you add a kimchi and some rice it's level increases exponentially. The dishes on their own are inexpensive! Get a couple! I usually get 2 to 3. Can't say enough about this place!
