I brought my car into Valvoline at 3930 W State St Boise, Idaho for an oil change. On my last…read morevisit, it was suggested that I get a manual transmission service performed, so at this visit, I paid for the transmission service along with the oil change. 35 miles later as I was pulling into my parking spot at work the transmission completely seized up due to the lack of oil.  It was later found by a local mechanic, that the drain plug was not properly tightened as well as the crush washer not having been replaced on the transmission. While Valvoline did take responsibility for the transmission and cover the labor, they left me to pay for the clutch and flywheel. They told me the mechanic said it was normal wear and tear. When I talked to the mechanic later, he said that was never said and that it was damaged from the transmission seizing. Valvoline lied to me to get me to agree to their terms so they wouldn't have to pay for the parts. When I confronted them with this information they still refused to pay for the parts even though they knew they had gotten me to agree under false pretenses as well as only verbally, they still refused to pay. In short a $99.99 service is now costing me $700 and I was without a car for just under 2 weeks. Don't go here unless it's an emergency, last and only resort. You might only make it 35 miles before you're car is toast. Thank goodness the oil change was fine otherwise they probably would've gave me a bare block and said the rest was normal wear and tear nevermind the absence of oil.

(And I had a had time believing they all developed in the last week on both vehicles) The manager gave a bunch of excuses as to how the shop I had gone to must have missed these issues. So I declined the work and I then had two other shops re-diagnose both vehicles and both shops came back with the same recommendations which were about 1/4 of the list this shop had recommended. This shop strikes me as a shop that capitalizes on folks who aren't knowledgeable about mechanical repairs.

The new shop investigated and found that Commercial Tire gouged my axel shaft with an angle grinder (when they were cutting off what the needed to cut off to replace the seal). I was WAY up in the mountains above Boise in a campground with a diesel leak in my Sprinter van. Lo and behold, he's a specialist in diesel and heavy equipment and man-o-man, he diagnosed and fixed my van in less than an hour. He's my guardian Angel, and I'm not saying that flippantly. It was Thursday before a Labor Day weekend, and he himself was flying out of town for holiday and he sensed how much I needed the help in my situation. He was 2 hours away and was there by noon. This guy is salt of the earth, authentic, good-hearted and more knowledgeable than any of most of mechanic shops I've been to from years in Washington State and the last 10 years in Arizona.
