I decided to get a second opinion at Gig Harbor Automotive, and I'm so glad I did. They treated me incredibly well from start to finish and performed a very thorough diagnostic. The technician scoped the engine and ruled out sticky valves completely. Instead, they found that the dealership had installed the wrong spark plug in cylinder 2. What really stood out was that the technician took extra time after hours to walk me through everything he found and explain it in detail. Bottom line: they are honest, thorough, and fair which is hard to find these days. I truly appreciate their integrity and highly recommend them.

My story: Brought my 96 4runner sr5 in for a brake inspection due to an unknown noise (had a recent brake job and brakes were 100% functional). During the inspection the mechanic claimed he could not fully remove the driver side drum brake nor could he get it back on. They told me they would have to cut it off and replace the whole brake and that I would be charged for this repair. After arguing they agreed to return my vehicle to the condition it was in when it arrived . However, upon picking up my vehicle I found that my brakes were not functioning properly (uneven and severely underpowered, spongy) and that my emergency brake was disconnected. In fact I'm not sure if my rear breaks are functioning at all. I towed my vehicle in the next day for them to fix it and Meinieke is now claiming that there is nothing wrong with my brakes and that my emergency brake was disconnected on arrival contradicting their own records. I will be opening a case in small claims court and reporting them to the AG, BBB, etc. I am disappointed beyond words and shocked they returned my car in an unsafe condition. Perhaps if the customer dies there is no one to complain? Also of note: they stole my service records from my glovebox! As if I can't call up my old mechanic, nice try guys.. After reading the other reviews (which I should have done before bringing my car in) and after my own experience, I believe this location needs to be criminally investigated. Edit 5/22: Had a trusted mechanic look at my car and indeed my rear drum brakes were backed off to the point of being non-functional and my e-brake was disabled. Terrifying. I'm thankful for my life. When I returned at 10, they had not even looked at it. I waited 2 1/2 hours for my oil change, and when they had not begun by then, had to cancel due to another obligation. I anticipated about $200 for front brake Pads and rotors. They charged $615, for just the front. I anticipated about $85 for the oil change, since it was synthetic, but they charged $115. They quoted me $200 to check the engine diagnostics. This consists of plugging in a $30 device for Literally five seconds. I declined and used my own. They quoted me $75 to change the air filter. I declined. I bought one for $12 and changed it myself in literally two minutes. They charged a $38.50 "Shop operations fee" To cover rags and miscellaneous cleaning supplies. (What?!?) They charged another $46 fee to pay by debit card. This is something I could accept from a struggling mom and Pop business, Not a big corporation. When I said I would stop and get cash rather than waste that $46, I was told it had to be exact change for them to accept cash. Wow. I know this is their business model, and these chain shops are infamous for that kind of thing, But I thought with something as simple as brakes and an oil change it would be OK. My mistake. I took my car to a small independent shop just outside of town, had the oil changed in 40 minutes for $62, No fee to use my debit card, and felt good about the experience.

Each time they were efficient and reasonably priced. My husband also brought in tires to be mounted and balanced for his first visit- everything went well. His second visit was to have his tire checked out and have it mounted onto a new wheel when his other rim cracked. They said the tire looked ok and was holding pressure/no leaks. Well, there was apparently some damage to the tire because it formed a nice bubble in the side wall about a week later- NOT their fault. After sourcing a new tire he went back in to have it mounted, and mentioned that the previous tire did have damage. They covered the mount and balance for him, even though they didn't need to. To top it off, their lobby is clean, staff is professional and friendly, and location is easy to get to.

I didn't even know how that was possible since it was supposed to be on their lot the whole time...but they basically made it sound like I was the one that did it because I told them I knew I already had curb rash on one wheel. Yea...right...I scratched up two more wheels on my 8 min drive home, is what I was supposed to believe, utterly ridiculous. They offered to send me the video but then never did. I don't know how they would've sent a video covering the couple days that they had it. I basically had no recourse, and they were utterly unwilling to admit that they were responsible despite the fact that it was only under their possession/safekeeping during the time the damage occurred.
