Tried to Celebrate my bday... from start to finish... everyone at restaurant was either curt or looked so unhappy! Hostess made us sit in bar for 20 minutes even though our table was available. The next party of 6 was also forced to sit in bar area even table was ready. When we decided to order, we requested dressing on the side with our salad. Waitress informed us that chef refused unless an allergy but not willing to if it's a preference. And if allergy, no dressing will be given! Then we ordered our burgers. We requested no cheese on our burgers. Waitress had to ask since chef doesn't allow substitutions. Really I wasn't substituting anything just omitting the cheese...I realized I had to lie and say it was an allergy so cheese wouldn't be put on the damn burger! When we inquired if we could have burgers cooked medium, waitress said all burgers are cooked medium with no choice for rare or well done. Well look at picture .. our burgers were raw. I told waitress I would pay but please take my plate because I don't eat raw meat. The owner came to the table and told us to leave and never come back! . I replied .. we won't!! My friends and I were thrilled and giddy that an Eat n Park is located right behind this horrible restaurant. We proceeded to celebrate my bday there. I was thrilled to get a cooked burger and a delicious dessert. If you know me you know I'm not one at all for fancier dining. Rarely does one catch my eye and I've had decent amount of expensive meals that have done nothing but disappoint. Jillian's has done nothing but kick my dick in The food. The fried Brie. I don't think I need to say much. Just look at it. WHAT I WILL SAY is that little salad with it. The source of the veggies is unreal but that house dressing I would drink by the gallon I have not gone out for a steak in over 5 years. I eat it every day. Not something I crave. Their Cowboy Ribeye will have me never going out for steak again because that's the only one I'll ever want. PERFECT melt in your mouth cook seasoned to perfection The burger. This is what I was waiting to try for the longest time. It is simple and it is a fucking knockout. The homemade bread had a brilliant inside softness to crust ratio. The locally sourced meat was cooked perfect and you can taste the quality once it hits your tongue. THE SAUCE. I fucking hate dill. People use it so poorly and let it overpower things more often than not. This sauce was spectacular. The dill in it has never been used better for me and even got a side to dip those UNREAL duck fat fries THE STAR FOR US. THE DUCK FAT POTATOES. The amount you get is not only insane but I have never had a potato prepared so well before. The perfect crunch on ever bite over a pool of the duck fat. Unbelievable Jillian and Phill you have made the experience even more amazing. Jillian is out in the floor serving food and checking in on everyone with such great energy. She says what she wants and doesn't give a fuck. Phil is in the back whipping up some of the best quality meals you'll ever have with some of the best sourced ingredients around. The food here is absolutely five star. The quality, presentation and preparation rivals any fine dining restaurant in Pittsburgh. I had a whole trout and my wife had the chicken. They were both amazing. Potato chip appetizer with caviar onion dip was perfect. Bread was fresh and warm. Creative cocktails. The only frustrating part was the service was painfully slow. We were there at 5:00 p.m. when it opened and our potato chip appetizer took over 45 minutes to arrive . We were the only ones in the restaurant. By the time we left all the tables were full as well as the bar. There was one bartender, one waitress and the owner. Everyone seem to be waiting for food. But it was worth the wait! While it took three hours from arrival for our reservation to the time we left, the food was absolutely incredible. We shared the carrots, bread, pommes frites, and salad which were all delicious. For mains our table had the chicken, lamb, and pork chop which were super good. A very relaxed environment with an area of couches. Will definitely be back. read more

Jillian's Restaurant *editing as I find typos and auto-corrects WOW. This is a vv long one, but I want to be thorough. Please read it if you can. It's worth it. TLDR: Jillian's is amazing, service was lovely, call them bc they prob can get you in last minute, follow them on IG for most recent/daily menus. Had the pleasure of dining at Jillian's for my birthday dinner this past weekend. What a wonderful experience. I had anticipated getting the Cioppino. Sadly, they were out. Instead I wound up sharing with my partner the wagyu steak and duck fat potatoes. Again...WOW. I made the mistake of not taking a photo of the steak when it arrived at the table, but let me tell you it was a beautiful sight. I really don't order steak when I go out to eat, but I also don't order chicken, and definitely not lamb, and my partner isn't a seafood person. So, I had steak. It was huge (I think she explained that it would be 16 to 18 ounces for the wagyu we ordered). It was delicious. It was light, though plenty of beautiful marbling. It didn't make me feel weighed down, which is unusual for me with red meat. What a pleasure. Leftovers are pictured, but the photos are a pathetic representation of something that was beautful fresh from the kitchen (I am so, so sorry for this). We also had moules frites. Amazing. Those fries were salty and addictive and I wish there had been a full pound to share and dip (I didn't want to share, TBH, but it was the right and fair thing to do bc what kind of person denies their partner French fries?!). The (also really bad) photo remaining is of the beet salad with goat cheese. Again, apologies for the terrible photo. There were red and golden beets, which were beautiful. I love beets, and I love golden beets so much. Goat cheese and balsamic to dredge. Lovely. Delicious. I also did not take a picture of the pistachio cheesecake (came out with a birthday candle) that honestly had me doing a little jig in my seat because my joy could not be contained. To my surprise, Jillian wrapped up and sent home with me another piece of pistachio cheesecake for me to enjoy privacy of my own home. (THANK YOU! ) Of note: They will let you sample the wines so that you can select something that you really want. There was no Cabernet on the menu. I sampled a couple of lines that I did not like, and then Jillian showed up at the table with a bottle of Cabernet that she found, and that made me so happy. Also, it's pretty dimly lit. There are cute string lights hanging from the ceiling, but my (40 something) aging eyes took a bit to adjust. I'm fine. You'll be fine. Just wanted to prepare you. **EDIT..... parking lot to the left of the adjoining building is for Jillian's, which formerly houses Stella's (my dad shared with me that it was formally Stella's, but I didn't know that at the time we were at the restaurant and a group member here let me know about the lot). There are also some (limited) parking spaces across the street. What surprised me the most is that the restaurant was not completely full. There were open tables the entire night. How that's possible, I don't know. The food is amazing, the service was lovely. If you're worried that you won't be able to get in, don't assume. CALL THEM. This space deserves to be fully booked every single night. Jillian said that they always tell people to call if they are looking for a last-minute table. She said they find it hard to predict business, and I think that this group can change that. Big time. it took me about 30 minutes to get there from Mt. Lebanon, whick felt like no time at all. It takes me longer to get many places in the city, 30min is nothing and 28 is no longer my worst nightmare (I grew up out that way, I know 28 sounds scary but it's really not anymore) (Pro tip: dont rely on the menu on the website, it isn't updated to match the daily menu changes which is why I always, always check IG) read more

Jillian's is a cute little spot located in my home town of new Ken. Owned by an amazing couple. The food is just as good as anywhere downtown! Once you step foot into their spot you would have no idea where you are. She makes some of the best martinis and all of their produce and meat are locally sourced. Dark, tabletops not inviting, no menus owner barmaid and waitress. Plan old cheap tables with one half dead flower in a tiny, tiny vase. For the prices you would think this would be a white table cloth place. So dark hard to read their menu on a chalkboard. And some prices had been changed so blurry left over chalk dust made even harder to read. Their online menu is NOT the same as what they might be cooking up that day. 3 papers laid on our table without an explanation - drinks, something about their food and some other non-menu paper. The owner appeared to be the barmaid and waitress. No one there prior to us had cocktails or food and she seemed overwhelmed. Everyone sitting in the dinning room had a baffled and look of confusion on their faces. The too young hostess could have provided a better explanation of papers, chalkboard etc. upon seating patrons and maybe taken a drink order instead of running to sit down. Not welcoming at all. At this point had no interest in their food. Bring a fat wallet - outrageous prices- check out pricing before you go. This is New Kensington, not New York. And for that matter there are other food worthy restaurants in Pittsburgh that won't over charge. read more

I took my husband to Jillians for a birthday celebration. I found out the day before that the menu would be limited due to the holiday. I was disappointed and I called the restaurant and talked to Jillian who felt bad and was going to give us a GC if we wanted to cancel and come a different day. We decided to go anyway . When we got there Jillian greeted us and sat down and talked to us and explained the food and menu. My husband is a big meat eater so we went with the tomahawk ribeye to share. It was massive and more then even the two of us could eat. We also got the duck fat potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were to die for. Everything was well seasoned and presented beautifully. We all expect good food when we eat out right? Well the food was outstanding but the whole experience was above and beyond. Jillian gave us a free appetizer (not necessary but very kind of her) and she even brought my husband a small dessert to celebrate his birthday. She went to each table and talked to every customer there. She definitley knows how to be a good hostess and makes everyone feel welcome and feel like you are a good friend. Really wanted to love this place. Service and bartender both attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. Drinks great as was most of food. I ordered their Pork Chop and actually asked prior to ordering how it would be cooked and was told med to med well which would have been fine. It was served rare and I asked to have it brought up to temperature. The server/part owner Jillian said no problem and that they remove it from my check. I said that wasn't necessary just please bring it up to a temp without the redish pink. This is where things went dramatically downhill as the chef/owner returned my meal cut up into itty bitty pieces you would feed to a baby just starting to eat solid food. I have a hospitality degree and have been a restaurant manager for fine dining steakhouses and country clubs for 20 years. This was the UTMOST INSULTING & INHOSPITABLE act I've ever seen. Move over Gordon Ramsey. For $300 for my wife and I you would think some you could get your food the way you like it without the CHEF/OWNER's vagina hurting. I would have been happy to recommend this place to everyone had returned frequently had he could have simply brought my Pork Chop to the temperature I asked instead of making me look like a child and throwing a tantrum about it. NOW I WILL MAKE IT MY mission to tell everyone I know in the industry and diners who spend a lot of money on dining about my experience and to never dine there.
