My wife and I came to the Mighty Oak Barrel on a Saturday night. We were looking for someplace different and settled on this restaurant in Oakmont. First, it is off the main street of restaurants in Oakmont, but that is ok. Parking was also tight, but we were able to find a spot. The restaurant is on the small side and had an intimate feel. There are limited tables, a couple of high tops, and a wrap around bar. The food was really good. I had the lobster ravioli with a vodka sauce. I enjoyed it immensely. My wife had the steak salad. It was very good also. She said the ranch dressing tasted like it was house made. The service was fine. Not over the top, nor was it poor. Overall it was a good meal and experience. read more

We were in Friday 6Feb26 to hook up w old friend. Dinner at the Bar 5 Pm. Haven't been in fir a year or so. After 5 minutes was as if we never left! Just a nice warm the sole spot w friendly staff and Michael as owner/head Chef at the helm it can't be better! Real food not fu fu stuff. Good portions of great food ! Its always nice to have enough to take some home fir a treat the next day! We love leftovers and we were well reminded of the Kitchens goodness the next day!!! We are "foodies" and have been wanting to try this restaurant but sadly we were underwhelmed, especially considering the price. This is "cook" level food not "chef" level. 7 friends made arrangements for a dinner get together. We chose the Mighty Oak Barrel and reservations were made. The person reserving the date and time left her telephone number with the person who took the reservation. When the first friend arrived she was told there were no reservations and they were having a wine tasting event so they couldn't seat us. After some discussion, the host admitted that they had the reservation but apparently didn't call to cancel. There was no apology. The first challenge is finding a space in the restaurant's tiny gravel parking lot, which holds about 14 cars. I found the last one. The restaurant is tiny, with seating for no more than about 30 people. Do not come here without a reservation unless you want to eat at the bar. The lively, small bar is just past the few tables. Tables are close together and the restaurant was rather loud when we entered. There is no atmosphere, no distinctive features or ambience. We stood at the entrance for more than five minutes with no one coming to seat us. No one even looked at us. Eventually, I went over to the lady tending bar and asked about being seated. She registered our reservation and in a few minutes, we were seated. It took more than ten minutes for the one server on duty to come to the table. The cocktails are potent and good, and are just $10. The menu has a nice selection of dishes. Cloth napkins are provided, which I love: a nice touch. My companion's mushroom ravioli was a small portion, but good. It came with a salad for $26. I had the special, chicken parmigiana over spaghetti and tomato soup: $28. The server told us the special, but not its price. In contrast, a great chicken parmigiana complete dinner at Franco's Trattoria in Peters Township, an elegant and attractive restaurant with attentive and gracious service, is just $24. As soon as you enter there's a pitch to sell you wine or specialty whiskey. My wife and I came here on a Friday night. It's on a side street in Oakmont and parking is very limited. We had to circle the block a couple times and ended up parking in a neighboring business' parking lot, near a sign that said "parking for customers only, violators will be towed". We had a reservation and got seated right away. Things slowed down quite a bit after that. Even though the restaurant was only ~75% full, it took a good 30 minutes to get our food ordered (we didn't order drinks) and another 45 minutes beyond that to get the food. First came my wife's Mighty Oak Barrel salad. Not impressed. At least make an effort! Large whole leaves of greens completely dry dumped on a plate with a few nuts, dried fruits and cheese on top. Dressing was placed on the side. It just didn't look appetizing and it didn't taste much better. That kind of set the tone for the meal. But it got a bit better. My wife ordered the pecan crusted trout. A good attempt. It was a big, tender piece of trout completely covered in what I'm almost certain were almonds. Not pecans as advertised. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so. It was a tasty dish, but one I think I could have prepared at home. The highlight of the meal was my mushroom ravioli with pine nuts and brown butter. It was very good. I especially liked the pasta dough. It tasted homemade and had a nice firmness to it. Unfortunately for me, the dish was served cold. But after waiting a long time to get it, I didn't want to spend another 45 minutes to get a hotter version. I had high hopes for this restaurant based on the other reviews. We got there at 7pm l and I quickly found out was an hr before closing. I just assumed they were open untill 9pm. Most tables had people already seated and a few dirty. It looked like they just had or were having a rush. We opted to sit at the bar. There seemed to only be 1 waitress for the whole place and while not that big, she was overwhelmed. My guess is because everyone came at once. The chef is the one who came over to get our drinks and give menu's, which was fine and he was very nice. I ordered the sausage flat bread and hubs ordered the steak salad. The food came quickly and things for employee's started to slow down and they were finally catching their breath. At about 10 minutes untill close several more people came in and while beat down the staff accepted their orders. My flat bread was delicious even though it was more like a pizza. We really enjoyed our dinner at the Mighty Oak Barrel. The food was great! They have a wide variety of options on the menu. The waitress, Toni, was able to help me figure out what options I had since I am gluten free. The chef modified the chicken Marsala sauce so I could eat the dish. My husband enjoyed the fresh bread. I ordered a Cosmo, my favorite drink, and it was great. A few others in our group enjoyed their Sangrias. The only two negatives for us are that my husband didn't like the gravy that came with the fried chicken and biscuits, and the parking lot was full so we had to circle around a bit until we found a parking spot on the street. read more

This place is tucked away in the back part of a quiet street. When you walk in they have local honey and bees wax for sale. They have a bar area with plenty of seats and the dining area has maybe 8 tables. There was a older lady, a hostess/helper and I believe the cook. The food was delicious! I got the egg Benedict and added a crab cake which I wanted on the Benedict itself. It came out on the side instead. No biggie. My friends order the prime filet and added a crab cake as well. They made it into a prie fix meal, which came with a side order and 1 mini muffin, 1 quarter size bread and a cookie. Not bad saying if you wanted to add a side it would have cost the same! Additional charge was $5 I believe. Also the menu it said add crab cake for $5 but the bill came and it was actually $7. We didn't complain since the service wasn't that great and it already took kind of long for everything. They served us water right away, came back and asked if we wanted something other then that. Keep in mind it was only us for the first 15mins. They took our order and then we didn't see her again until our food arrived maybe 45mins later. The younger lady came over and asked how our meal was and it was delicious. We then asked her to refill our drink order since we haven't seen the older lady since she took our order. They did leave a pitcher of water at the table which was nice since they didn't have to come back to refill that. She was taking care of, now, the 2 other tables and the 2 couples at the bar area. Excellent food, crab cakes had lots of lump crabmeat, potatoes were done perfect and just right seasoning. My friend ordered lobster ravioli she said it was great. The server was terrific and a lot of fun. Meal was served in a timely manner, giving us time to talk and catch up. Love the atmosphere warmly lit but not to dark. The restaurant space is small and cozy, they have a decent-sized bar. The service was excellent, our waiter who seemed to be running the place was very friendly and gave us some great recommendations. They have a nice cocktail list. I picked this place to have dinner with some friends; it was quite close to where we were having an event that evening, and my alternate option was a place called "Carnivores" which I disqualified exclusively because I didn't want to hear the vegetarian in the group whine about it. The tables in my area are close enough that navigating to the bathroom was like navigating a waist-high hedge maze, but not so close that seating was uncomfortable. There's also a bar area with several TVs. The food was good. I honestly don't remember what I ordered, but I'm pretty sure I ate it all. The menu is larger than I expected for a place so small, and it seems like a good mix of traditionally Euro-American fare that is common in this region: burgers, fish, pasta, salads, etc. My friend took his leftover pasta home to his wife, and she told me she enjoyed it, too. Staff was friendly, drinks were prompt, our orders were correct, and other customers were loud (as per any neighborhood bar and grill on a Friday evening) but certainly not impolite. Both their crab cakes and fish of the day were satisfying and delicious, and the cilantro lime tartar sauce provided with both gave an interesting twist. This is a very nice, now family owned (non chain) restaurant. We had tried this place when it re-opened and again recently. They worked out the opening "bugs" and are much better organized. We had burger, flat bread and crab cakes. All were excellent. If you were here under old owners vs new, it is different with its own, new unique flare. Truly, this one star review was earned by The Might Oak Barrel for its grotesque decor, failures in adequate service, disappointing fare, and overall lacking quality for a restaurant in the famed downtown of Oakmont. My colleagues and I hosted a well-respected Oakmont resident at lunch at somewhere other than the typical Hoffstots or Chelsea Grille. This was our first occasion to visit the "Barrel." Upon entry (around 1230pm) we were treated to a most disturbing collecting of horrific art, Fiesta-ware plates, and no oak barrel (a place called the "Mighty Oak Barrel" actually has an oak barrel, right? Nope...). On the wooden bar rested a clothes basket filled with unfolded table linens, a work-in-progress schedule of servers, and a hodgepodge of cleaning supplies. This was not during the late afternoon "slow hours" where you might expect to catch the staff cleaning and organizing, rather these chores were being completed on the bar, in the middle of the restaurant, during the lunch rush. One woman acted alone as the sole bartender, hostess, waitress, table busser, and cashier. Although I do feel bad for her having to act in every possible capacity other than the cook, I do feel her employer needs to reevaluate its business plan. After an incredibly long wait, our orders were taken - but nothing served without error. The food that was delivered was nothing to impress (see the burned beyond reason Reuben I could not bear to finish). ...Any good review must evaluate the restroom and this is one to note. The men's restroom lacks a door on it's only toilet stall and lacks any locking mechanism on the main restroom door. Better hold it... In the parking lot leading to the front door, a smelly and filthy grease trap sits prominently to great patrons. I would not recommend visiting The Mighty Oak Barrel. read more

Great, hidden out of the way restaurant. They had some of the best crab patties I've ever had, topped with a lime juice that just brought out the most wonderful flavors. I've had crab cakes all around the world, these would rate as some of the best. I would of never found this restaurant without Yelp. Wow, the place looks like a dump on the outside, really cute on the inside with candlelit tables and a few big tables for groups. Greeted quickly and seated promptly. No drinks in menu, bar takes up most the space inside. Small menu and very high priced. 14 for a piece of fried chicken on a biscuit with pan gravy and 6 bucks for a Caesar salad with mostly the butt of the lettuce in it. She got the fish and it came out very light in color. Had little to no taste until one huge spot of the most rancid dirty fishy fish taste. I got the steak sandwich with Rostand red potatoes and wow was i disappointed. First bit had the hardest piece of gristle or a bone in it ever and then the rest was iffy at best. Pieces of decent steak and pieces of the worst hardest chewiest steak. The red potatoes were more like small burnt rocks on my plate. And the smell in there was weird to describe at best. Service was poor. Our waitress was more attentive to her conversation at the bar with the bartender and other server than to us. I seriously would not return there if you paid me to. The bread that came to the table was good though and while being described as from the oven it's wasn't barely room temp and was clearly just a sliced baguette, but thank god it was there!!! read more
