We bought a house in Littleton that needed a major repair of water damage caused in the basement. We found Jim Black Construction through USAA insurance. As soon as we contacted Jim Black Construction, Adam immediately responded back to us and professionally explained the process of our journey soon to be started. Adam and Chuck were on time when we started the remodeling process, and Chuck and the crew started remodeling the basement. Chuck managed the construction team and took all the stress for us! Chuck coordinated efficiently as to which contractors should be coming first, second... and last. Chuck's project management skills were consistent exceptional throughout this journey. Towards the end of our remodeling journey, we were super excited to start redesigning the basement that he remodeled for us. He completed the house on time as stated when we began reconstruction and always got back to us if anything else was needed. Jim Black Construction also would call to check if everything met our expectations. Chuck and the team have a friendly attitude and are very transparent in the work they do so you always know exactly what you are paying for. Plus, Chuck did all this when the Coronavirus sprung up and amazingly took the project on his back to completion. We had an ice damn on the roof that resulted in water dripping thru the roof and into the living room. We called our insurance company (USAA) and they recommended Jim Black Construction.....and I am so glad they did!! Beginning with the man who supervised and did the water mitigation, to the project manager and the team who came in and did the repairs, everyone was considerate of us and our home. When we were told someone would be at the house on a specific day and time, they were. In order for them to do a thorough job, we were asked to move into a hotel while the work was done. To protect our furniture, everything on the main floor was moved into a pod. When we were told we would be out of the house for about 2 weeks, we were back home in 12 days. If we needed to come into the house to get something while the workmen were here, they were very accommodating and considerate. Overall, we were happy with the work, the respect for our time and our home. AND, here is something you probably have never heard.....Our claim was paid - based on the bid - by check from USAA. When the work was completed, the final bill was $211 less than the bid. Jim Black sent to us a check for the over payment. That tells me that this business has integrity, a word you do not often hear in the same sentence as construction company. I highly recommend Jim Black Construction. They did beautiful work, were considerate and always on time, and had the integrity to return an over payment to us and USAA. read more

Run, do not walk away from this company, and anything related to Jim Black and/or his company. He is an arrogant crook. Inferior work, demands for money when mortgage company couldn't release funds due to insufficient amount of work performed, walking off the job, and clueless subs who feared calling him or the super to find out what to do. Was a circus, but with a lot of foul language. On more than one occasion, subcontractors left two piles of invoices for the super on the job, one the actual invoice and one to show us - marked significantly hire. We anxiously await the feds to come after him and his crew. Hope insurance companies are watching him closely. They claim they "don't rebuild people's homes, but they rebuild people's lives..." when in fact they profit insanely on other people's misfortune, and make the victims feel like crap and completely helpless every step of the way. Being a victim of a fire or flood or damage is hard enough on a family, do NOT be victimized again by JBC. read more

We suffered incredibely water damage from the Boulder flood last fall. We had water actively in our basement and on the recommendation of our insurance agent, called Jim Black Construction. They came out to help within a matter of hours. They were incredibly helpful and had all the right equipment and knowledge to get the work done properly. After the basement was dried out, we also contracted with them to do all of the repair work. This included dry wall, tile work, trim work, painting, and carpet installation. The project manager was actively involved and stopped by regularly to check on progress. Both their employees and contractors were extremely helpful and easy to work with - they showed up on time and did their work with a minimum of disruption to our home and family. The work was done on schedule and at or just below their bid. Amazing! I would recommend Jim Black Construction to any of our friends, family, or neighbors! read more

First off, Jim Black Construction and the contractors they use have been extremely communicative and hard-working during our spare bathroom construction. We unfortunately had some mold & water damage in our spare bathroom upstairs and were made aware of Jim Black Construction through a family friend and private contractor. Their attention to detail and willingness to repair any issues throughout the construction process was seamless. From the tile work in the shower and bathroom floor to the finishing touches to the overall look to our bathroom I can say that my wife and I are very pleased with the end result. We recently had to replace our roof and some of our siding due to the big hail storm June of 2018. Jim Black construction was recommended by our insurance company. We met with the project manager and we were impressed with the options for our new roof. Jim Black company worked with our insurance and made the repairs in a timely matter, even though the "whole" city practically was hail damaged so I knew we were not the only ones. My wife and I are very happy with the outcome and the ease of working with this contractor, from the project manager to the superintendent and not to forget the office staff. We had an insurance claim for hail damage on our home in the Baker area of Denver (an 1886 historical home). Jim Black Construction company was the main contractor in repair of all our damage. It included re-roofing on our home and the detached garage, full north exterior wall damage, replacing sky lights, gutter replacement, carpentry repair and painting. All of their subcontractors are hand-picked and superb. Jim Black's staff were so helpful in coordinating the repairs, documenting damage to the insurance company and recommending a crucial decision to change where our gutter system drained water to avoid a damp basement. I can't say more to how they made fixing all the damage seamless. read more

Be careful if you work with this company. After they completed mitigation work for water damage they told us the insurance company had contracted with them to do the repair. The insurance adjuster assured us this was not true, that we were to hire who we chose. Then they sent us a bill for the mitigation but the adjuster had told us the insurance company would be paying them directly. Jim Black Construction assured us this wasn't true and we finally gave them a credit card number, only to find out that the insurance company was paying the bill. One wonders if they would have ever refunded our money if they received payment from the insurance company. Check on everything they tell you. read more

A very friendly company, I was pleasantly surprised at their attention to detail and immediate response to it concerns. Greg was great and help guide us through the procedure of water mitigation. A refrigerator water tube leak caused damage to the wood floor and cabinets in our kitchen. As complicated as our cabinetry was, Chuck was able to work his magic to insure every detail was taken care of. Please ask for Chuck if possible. He's one of those unsigned heroes that just makes sure your taken care. We have been thoroughly satisfied and would definitely recommend their services to others. read more

DON'T HIRE OR TRUST THIS COMPANY!! REPORT TO BBB! Jim Black and his son Jimmy are rude and uncaring. If you had problems with them go to the BBB and file a report! Other people need to know what a pathetic company they are!!! They do not care how much damage they create in your home only that no one makes a report on the BBB. Save someone else and let the BBB know what they have done to you! They left us in a terrible situation!
