Filled out my intake form in office noting I was pregnant about 3-4 times. They took me in for an xray. After the initial head scan, I was scanned maybe 3 more times in the chair. Only until I was spun around in the chair I saw the sign that said if pregnant to inform the tech. Tech had no idea I was pregnant due to my intake form not fully loaded on their end. You would think its standard of care to ask especially if they havent had the chance to check the intake form. The cleaning itself was subpar, it wad done by Dr. Hasan. The prep by the assistant flossing my teeth was longer than the actual cleaning. It felt like my teeth was only polished. And she recommended that I do some laser treatment because my gums had slight bleeding (granted she poked at them with a sharp tool). I was giving her the benefit of doubt that she had my best interest. She even mentioned given my pregnancy it is common to have more bleeding. I agreed to the laser but after speaking to another dentist at different office they said it was an elective procedure and I only needed to be more diligent in flossing. Of course my insurance didnt cover it and it was around $250 for a 5 minute procedure. I will not be returning here, they also overbook and I was there for 1.5hrs for subpar cleaning and a lot of waiting. My husband also had a visit the same day. They only did xrays and imaging and claimed he needed deep cleaning which will cost him around $300 after insurance. But it would make sense why he needs deep cleaning since all they do is polish your teeth rather than actually cleaning. Also never in my life did I have to hold my own suction tool to aid the dentist and assistant during a "cleaning" They dont have your best interest, they just want your money. Go somewhere else. Also overheard a pt coming back for follow up because his filling came out. Lol definitely have never heard of that happening.

I had a dentist I loved, and then he suddenly disappeared. I showed up on Monday morning for my appointment, and all new signage was up. I asked the staff, and they had no idea. He'd just literally sold the business overnight and moved on. To this day we still don't know what happened. I didn't feel great about having a dentist take over that I was unfamiliar with, but it seemed to be okay. Then over and over, he kept recommending procedures that didn't seem necessary. He wanted cleanings every 4 months for no apparent reason. Then every other month he wanted to do a deep cleaning. I was constantly pressured to see their "preferred" periodontist. Every time I turned around, they needed to re-do a filling or re-do a cap. It just seemed weird. So I went for a second opinion, and that dentist told me "You don't need a cap, you just need to replace a filling. I was in-and-out, no hassle, no pressure, no fuss. Still puzzled, I began to research dental scams. I ran across a dentist from the east coast, and on his video, he outlined the top 10 dental scams. The old dentist had recommended 9 of those procedures! The video also used the example that if a dentist only makes $100 profit on a filling, but can make $2500 profit on a cap, the scam is to talk you into a cap. Wow. So I thought it'd be a great idea to find a nonprofit, because surely they wouldn't be into these scams. I found one I liked, and I love supporting nonprofits! They were okay for a little while. Then when I went in for routine x-rays and a cleaning, the dentist only cleaned 5 of my teeth??? I was puzzled when he said that was all that was needed. Seems I'd found the other end of the spectrum. On the one end was a guy who was recommending 9 unnecessary procedures, and on the other end, the guy only wanted to clean 5 of me teeth. aye aye aye Frustrated, I began to research again. I found Sunset Dental Arts and I liked the reviews. I gave them a try this afternoon. Clean bill of health, and no unnecessary procedures. (Imagine that.) They were warm, friendly, efficient ... and hey ... the dentist smiled and said, "We'll be cleaning ALL your teeth today." LOL! Couldn't ask for more that that! Helped me replace a infected crown from a different dentist location, Help solve a Periodontitis flare up due from previous dentist (not this chain, Tustin family Dental) improper cleaning, and Gold Coast helps me understand and take preventative measures. They explained to me that my mouth is changing once again because of my age which means an unfortunate decrease in healthy gums and showed me that because my mouth has changed, how to properly clean it. I've been sooooo happy and my teeth and gums have been so healthy since this change that I'm even convincing my husband to book here for his much needed dental care. They are also open on the weekends and work days to work with your schedule. After my cleaning, Dr. Alec asked me a question I don't remember having ever been asked by a dentist before. "How do you feel about your smile?" You could tell it wasn't just some rehearsed question to wrap up the appointment with, but something he authentically wanted to know. Recalling all the moments I've conscientiously hid my coffee and smoke stained jagged teeth in photos, at social gatherings, and on dates, it was hard to respond with anything positive. Although my teeth were functional and definitionally clean, they were far from anything I could say I was proud of. Don't go here unless you're okay getting a second bill you weren't told about. Here's what…read morehappened. When I called to book my appointment, I asked what am I going to owe. I told them I was fine paying whatever it was, I just needed the number. They said they'd go over it when I came in. On 8/24 I was told fluoride and sealants (which they recommended) weren't covered, was quoted $181, I was okay with that and I paid it right there. I figured that was the whole bill, no additional charges as none were mentioned beyond that. Then about two weeks later I get another bill for $219.20. Nobody called, nothing explaining what it was for, I had to go log into MetLife and figure it out on my own. I asked about cost on the phone, they reviewed coverage not covered, I checked out, paid $181 and at no point did anyone say there might be more coming. Every other dentist I've been to tells you what your out of pocket is before you sit in the chair, and that's the number you pay. It doesn't double two weeks later. And honestly look at what the charges were. $152 for a "Comprehensive Oral Evaluation" where the dentist was in the room maybe two minutes. $220 for x-rays, $144 for a cleaning. Those are premium prices and the office was in the middle of a remodel, dust everywhere, stuff piled in the hallway. Not what you expect for what they're charging. I don't mind paying for good care. I do mind asking about cost and still getting surprised with a bill after the fact. At that point it stops feeling like a mistake and starts feeling like how they do business, and feels deceptive. There are a lot of dentists in Orange that will just tell you the real number up front. Go to one of those.

I myself needed a new crown so I scheduled myself, too. First, I got a basic exam and teeth cleaning by Kelly. She was easy going and professional, and that part went (relatively) painless. I had gone to another place a few years back that practically butchered my mouth and made it hard to eat for a few days, so it was nice having someone who knew what she was doing. Afterwards, Dr. Tanaka took a look at my tooth with the missing crown and made a few recommendations, explaining both to me and the assistant/resident/student (I mean no disrespect, just not sure) what he wanted to do and why. I felt absolutely confident that I was getting the best possible care. I have a follow-up appointment myself, and though I never look forward to dentist appointments, I look forward to having my teeth taken care of.
