A couple of weeks ago I started my car and this 'Code 52' took over the dashboard speedometer panel. No check engine light - just the Code 52. I HATE when I have car issues because I dont really know how to fix it, other than to take it to the repair shop and then...... who knows, you know? So I googled it (of course!) and found out that because my car had just turned over to 100K miles, the Code 52 was an 'urgent' code stating that the timing belt (and water pump etc) needed to be replaced. Oh crud!! So I called around and got ball park estimates. The gamut ran from $1800 down to $800/$900. Well of course I wanted to go with the lowest possible but then someone suggested I give Jim Estes Garage a call. I am SO glad I did!! I spoke to the nicest man, Ron. He is (I think) the manager in charge of the garage. I explained to him what was going on and He gave me a quote which was a couple hundred dollars above the lowest, so I told him what they had quoted and Ron went back and reworked his figures and quoted me just a wee bit above the lowest garage!! I was impressed! I dropped my car off, and asked how much it would cost to have my transmission fluid checked and topped up if needed and he told me they would be checking all my fluid levels 'no charge' - What???!!! WOW!! I also told him not to worry about the TMP light (it had been flashing on for about a month- meaning, it seems, that either a TMP device had died or been lost) - that I would take care of it with my tire guy when I switched to my snow tires in a month. My car was done that afternoon, but I opted to wait until this morning to pick it up because my Daughter was able to give me a ride to the shop. I got there and the price was exactly as I expected so I was verrrrry happy! (you know what I mean, how many times do you get there and they tell you either that the price is a ton more OR they start trying to upsell you on something else that is 'wrong' with your car??) When I got in the car I noticed that not only was it running really well, but the TMP light was off!! Which meant they fixed it for me no charge!!!! I am SO impressed with Jim Estes Garage!! Not only are they fantastic Car Fixers, but they are just SO nice!! I will be taking my car to them for repairs from now on!! read more

Front driver's side carpet sopping wet and seat torn when we got our vehicle back. $1750 estimate $2490 when we picked it up. Front dash and turn signals not working though $113 of the bill was to fix lights. $156 was refunded when we called about the issues. Not a place I would go back to. read more

Start off it's my second time here first time bring a vehicle I brought my truck 3 different times before they even actually found the problem the first time I took a vehicle I got charge 3 different times I was upset so whatever I get new car and car stuff happen and I take to them get it towed and everything I talked to them and they say 30-1 hour to see what wrong with it "MAX" next day not even same day I get a call saying hey so it's gonna be a minimum of 2 hours more of Diagnostics plus what the Diagnostics we so looking up to 480 in just Diagnostics like how it go from 30mins to an hour max to about 3 hours minimum and they go we have our smartest guy working on it but obviously not if not getting fixed never again not just that I'm out $480 and they say they'll charge me over 1000 just for the fing part I swear they all go and f***k themselfs read more

Very poor quality of work, returned vehicle with oil all ove the drivers seat. Changed pricing, without any notices or a simple phone call! Car was in shop literally 5 months and very poor communication. I had to constantly call, or pop up to the shop to get information. Asked to speak to owner, or somebody in a leadership role and was told owner was on vacation on 2 different occasions. Worst experience I've ever had to deal with. Jim Estes Garage is dishonest. I took my car in and asked for estimate. After several hours I called them about said estimate and the person stated that the car was repaired. Asked why they didn't call with an estimate, the man became rude saying "why the f**k did you bring the car in for asshole?!" I initially refused to pay but they called the police who sided with the garage and ordered me to pay for services. I have heard many very similar incidents from others. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all cost. read more

Earlier this year I submitted a very unfavorble review of Jim Estes Garage. We had various forms of communications and with the assistance of the BBB, we were able to resolve "my" issues and that of my vehicle. Jay, the lead mechanic called on August 6th. He explained in great detail the problems, the specific steps taken and the resolutions in achieving a properly running automobile. I am very thankful to he and his company in resolving the issues while being under pressure and shorthanded during this very busy time of year. During our phone conversation we reached a tentative mutual agreement regarding total costs. Further details of the agreement may transpire upon direct review of the invoice. He has been fair and I fully appreciate his extra effort in the labor spent at his forfeiture. I look forward in having Estes Garage as my mechanic of choice in the future. read more

I have taken my cars to Jim Estes Garage for over a decade. The very first time I went there, I had gotten an estimate from another place to fix my Jeep that was over $1,000. I then took it to Jim Estes because a friend highly recommended this place. I showed them the estimate from the other place and was ready to spend that much if this 2nd opinion at Jim Estes was the same. In fact, Jim Estes fixed my car for $264 instead of the $1,000 quoted at the other place! They are the most honest garage I have ever known. Just recently I had a problem starting my car and I thought I needed a new starter or something else that could be expensive. I took it in, and they found the problem and fixed it for $20 !!! I didn't even have an appointment, I had just gotten stuck with my car while out shopping, and once I got it started again I drove immediately to Jim Estes and they worked me right in. I can't say enough good about this place and the mechanics and staff. They are all top-notch! read more

I was referred to these jokers because my mechanic was too backed up to complete a major cam replacement on my 2011 Ram Hemi. He thought maybe they were trust worthy! So we told them what was wrong with the truck, they said sure we can fix it..... So we drop off the truck and they call us with the new diagnosis (The fuel injectors needed flushing and 2 of the 16 spark plugs we just replaced were the wrong brand).... They charged us $150 bucks for their idiotic diagnosis and wanted $600 bucks to flush the fuel injection. We said (NO WAY) of course and told our mechanic about their scammer diagnosis so he agreed to work us into his schedule (had to wait a couple weeks), but he tore the engine down and found a bad lifter/bad cam, just as he indicated before! So if you have something more complicated than an oil change, beware of these guys! read more

I had an awful experience to say the least with these guys that spanned the greater part of a year. I spent $6,000 on several items, some of which are now fixed, one remains unfixed. They put us on the back burner time and time again and didn't prioritize the job. Every other day they said it would be done and every day we called for 4 months it was not. I had been having noises in my car for a while now. On a whim, I took it to Estes and they not only fixed it but they did it the same day. They checked my car out thoroughly and found I needed brakes. They called before the work started and said car would be done that same day... Wow. They are nice and knowledgeable and fast. I took my Subaru in for valve cover gasket replacement. The estimate was well worth a weekend for me as I normally do my own maintenance on ALL of my vehicles as I have for a very long time. Upon pick up of my car the power steering was cavitated (air pockets in the system) causing the power steering pump to wine loud and the steering feel jerky. I went in and asked Jay about it. His "technician" responded with "it was like that when it came in". I assured him that it most definitely was not. I was also told that my radiator was cracked and also "like that when I came in". As I am under my hood quite a bit to inspect various things from time to time and have NEVER noticed coolant on top of the radiator, I was fairly certain it was not like that when I dropped off the car. After retrieving the car from Estes Garage, I immediately drove to my work (less than 3 miles from there) and noticed a coolant smell that wasn't there earlier that morning (I drive from Clackamas to Oregon City almost every day). I removed the radiator hold down bracket and found the the radiator was leaking from the plastic post that goes from the top of the radiator to the inside hole of the bracket. I was told by Jay and his "technician" that it was the radiator top seal that was leaking, when in fact my radiator had been stress cracked in a completely different place. Upon calling Jay about "making it right" he had told me that he would have a replacement radiator in shop by the end of the day, which he did....AND HE CHARGED ME FOR IT. He had offered to replace the radiator in house and I refused stating that I would replace it myself given all that had happened to my car. Upon driving my car home that evening I lost spark to my #3 cylinder and caused a misfire code to appear and my check engine light to flash at me. I found the code with my OBD2 scan tool that I own, because I work on all my own stuff.....for this exact reason. So, i find that the plug has come loose off of my coil pack that sits directly over the #3 cylinder. I reached down along side a hot engine and push it back into place. While doing this, I notice that the fastening clip was broken off of the side of the plug and there is no longer a way to fasten the plug to the coil pack. It can easily come off at any time while driving and cause problems now. Skip to the following weekend....I am preparing to replace my radiator in my beloved turbo Subaru. First thing I do is pull off the plastic skid plate. I had it off just prior to Estes Garage "servicing" my vehicle to diagnose the source of my oil leak. It was clean and nothing was on it. Except this time, after Estes, I pulled it off to find the broken clip piece from my coil pack wire harness plug AND a rubber insulator that goes into a completely different plug (that I have yet to locate) laying on top of the inside of plastic skid plate. Which means that the "tech" didn't remove the skid plate to access to components the he was accessing ON THE BOTTOM OF MY ENGINE! I took it into Jay AGAIN, showed him the pieces that were broken and explained that I wanted it fixed. He wanted to fix it by cutting wires to my ignition system. I refused and made him aware that he will purchase a new plug housing ($5.00 on Amazon) and replace the housing thus leaving my OEM wire harness in tact. He seemed upset but agreed. He stated he would call me when the part cane in. It has been 3 weeks and I have not heard from him or anyone from his shop. I have known Jay since the 90's having grown up in and around Oregon City. I have spent my time working in various automotive shops in the past and have seen the right way and wrong way different shops conduct business. Estes garage, I am sorry to say, is definitely a shady operation at best. Do yourself a favor, if you own a Subaru, take it to Mountain Tech. If you own anything else, take it ANYWHERE else. But again, this is why I have always worked on my own cars. Good luck out there. read more
