The people there were amazing and you can tell they value your time just as much if not more than their own. 10/10 hassle free experience and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a shop they can trust. I made the mistake of taking my Subaru Outback there for brakes and rotors, wasn't even out of the parking lot and the brake pedal almost goes to the floor and went right back in and they said 'we will replace the master cylinder at no charge' right! It was not replaced (as per Gresham Subaru) and brakes never felt like new brake pads were even there. Now i have to have it all redone at Gresham Subaru where i should have gone in the first place, i don't think the work was ever done at Referral Automotive, i got took on that one, never again read more

I initially took my car to Gresham Transmission because my transmission fluid was draining. When I got there, there was thick fluid that looked like strawberry milkshake. My radiator was pulling the transmission fluid into the radiator!! He told me to go around the corner to Referral Automotive right away. I went around the corner and explained what was going on. He said 'no problem we will get it fixed'. They gave me a quote and I was on my way. They called later to let me know I was going to need an extra part and wanted to make sure it was ok to do so. They fixed the car fast and let me keep it there over the weekend until my payday. I went to pick it up but he couldn't get into the computer to process my card so instead of making me wait there, he let me take the car so I could head out of town. I called in later and got the payment resolved. I definitely recommend them and will use them again if I have any issues with my car. Very friendly and they did a great job! read more

Unfortunately I can only give these guys 5 stars. The are amazing. They saved me over $1600 on a used car I was considering purchasing. They found out that the car needed brakes and struts among other things. I have used these guys for my repairs since I found them about a year ago. They are honest and good at what they do. They don't charge to do a visual pre-purchase inspection but if you want them to look at something specific they charge $41. Money well spent in my opinion. Their shop rates are very good and they go above and beyond in the work they do. I recommend them to everyone I know in the East County area. read more

Terrible experience all around. I was referred to this shop from a friend who had used them previously and said they were reliable and did great service, sadly this was not my experience. I took my truck in for a tune up, I was told I did not need a tune up but I did need a new fuel pump and my injectors cleaned. After I picked up my truck, expecting it to be fixed, I had more issues than before I brought it in to be serviced. It turns out they put in the wrong fuel pump. Due to pressure issues with new pump,my truck would not take gas at the gas station, also it was making loud banging and grinding noises. Four return trips later I still have a check engine light on. They made no effort to give a discount or to attempt to make things right and had no apologetic responses. I will not bring my vehicle back to this shop and will not refer anyone to this business. read more

These guys had my car for over a month and seemed to just throw out guesses on what the problem would be. Including a fuel injector resistor and a new ECU. None of which fixed my car. Additionally when they would give me a date for when they'd have it done, they were never on time, not even once, didn't answer calls and didn't respond to messages left. Only when we saw them in person could we get anything accomplished. Though they jerked my chain the whole time they had my car, they didn't charge a dime for any of it and for that I am grateful​. Horrible place the owners dad told me his son likes to charge people for things that dont need to be done so he can pay for his new house, and called his son lazy and always shortcutting things. So I went in to have about $70 worth of parts put on my vehicle with 4 bolts a couple clips a little bit of fluid and one hoes all on the top of the engine very easily accessible And I got the bill it was $506 ... Then being in the car industry for 26 years and knowing that I just got ripped off! I asked the owner to come take a look and show me where my $506 worth of labor went Actually it was $436 in labor For 4 bolts 1 hose And a hood latch cable And clean injectors and I say cleaned not replaced on an inline 4.0 leader Jeep very easy ! When I asked him to come look he says I don't need to look if you don't like the price don't bring any cars To my shop! Which I swiftly replied you have absolutely 0 chances of that ever happening again then he started throwing insults And his little protege that works with him started to get in on the insults So I answered back with the truth you're liars thieves and a couple choice words that I can't mention in here but I would recommend you find any mechanic other than these guys and I do mean any ...! I was in Portland on business and had to have some repairs done. It was going to cost over $1000. But when they started to work on my vehicle they found another major problem and basically told me it was not worth doing the repairs since my vehicle was around 340,000 miles and because the estimates were reaching $3-4000. But they did get me back on the road for under $200 doing a tune up and some other minor repairs. My van runs ruff (as to be expected without the major repairs), but it will get me back to Texas. It's nice to find people that are not just wanting to take your money but are interested in you and your vehicles well being. THANK YOU, Kim & Eric for all the help. Wish you were in my home town!!! Next year, when I have a new vehicle, I will plan to have any maintenance done at Referral Automotive while in Portland. read more

A one star rating is too much! Got turned on to this shop via Napa. I Had some new OE parts that are no longer available locally. Just simple, everyday parts that all cars use....nothing exotic. Said they would install at hourly rate....OK. So, two days after install, system would not function properly. Went back three different times and waited for hours. Always too busy to really try and find a definite problem with their work. They never did determine why the system didn't perform as normal. But then the girls in the office miraculously figured it out and said, while trying to convince me, that it was my part that was bad and not their work! Only problem with that was, NO mechanic checked the system or parts to make that particular determination..... it was solely the office girls own opinion, along with her attitude, to get me out of their hair quickly! Well, a few days later, as summer temperatures were rising, the vehicle had to be taken to a dealer for repair, and guess what; my OE parts were just fine as I had contended. It was their of lack of knowledge on this particular system and vehicle to leave it "over a pound" low on Freon ! ! They professed to know what they were doing all along, but their inept performance proves them wrong! However, in reality/retrospect It wasn't really that surprising, for while they were working on it, they stated that they were unsure of the proper Freon/oil to put into that particular vehicles' system.........................................Hello ! Hearing that, I assumed they found out the answer and proceeded, but I was wrong! That particular info wasn't part of my job........they were paid a lot of hard earned money to perform that everyday job correctly, but clearly they didn't have a clue! So much for them working on my beauty any further! Don't let them guess/work on yours folks................ read more

This business was once a fairly competent automotive repair shop. That is no longer the case. It has become nothing more than a children's day care center/parts swapping business with no diagnostic capabilities. The last three times we have used this shop, they have either failed to resolve the issue, or attempted to over charge for their parts. The last straw was when they tried to sell me parts that the car did not need. No more!!! read more

You find out a shop's true colors when something goes wrong. They destroyed my engine, because they did not understand how to properly install the timing chain. I trusted them when they told me they would work to fix this colossal mistake. Unfortunately for me, they thought they'd just patch it somehow and I'd go away. A month after the "rebuild" my car was completely void of oil. They tried to cover it up by saying it was totally coincidental and had nothing to do with them. I had to go to another mechanic to find out was what wrong. It was clear this was an oil-burning problem stemming from the rebuild. Turns out the rebuild was done so poorly that now I needed to put in a new engine. I called them a number of times, but they refused to fix the problem. They then told me they would not talk to me anymore other than through an attorney. They figured that by bullying me, I'd just disappear, too poor and stressed to take them on. Honestly, that probably works the majority of the time. On this count, their arrogance got the better of them. They had to pay the damages. I really don't want anybody else to have to go through the many months of stress I had to go through, so please take heed and don't use this shop. read more

Took my 1999 Safari van to them with the doors stuck locked. The computer anti-theft code prevented them from fixing it completely--but they got the doors to work with the key! Amazing work, short turnaround and reasonably priced. I will take both of my vehicles there whenever there is a problem with them. Wish I could give them more stars!!! read more

Took my car there for a fuel pump. Paid $120 only to leave the shop and have my car quit on me again in less than 24 hours. Then they had my car for almost two weeks, charged me $600 for a fuel injector. i then left a second time and within 24 hours my car was dead. Crack in the engine block. Mechanic said that all of my coolant had leaked out, but I had just had the fluids checked mere days before taking it to them. How did my car sit in your shop for two weeks, and come out with no coolant and a cracked engine block. They offered no refund, even when asked if they could simply refund a small portion of the labor. I almost lost the roof over my head because I spent all my money paying them to fix a problem that continuously got worse every time they touched the car, and then ended in the complete death of my car. DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR VEHICLE. In my experience, they will just misdiagnose and you will end up spending more money. read more

Worst shop i have ever had work done at for how much experience they have and to do such a poor job is beyond me i would not recommend them to my worst enemy to have work done be these idiots, save your self time and money and take your car to a professional mechanic read more
