John Moran auctioneers (Bob Cullen) got back to me saying they too could not identify the artist but they were very interested in putting the painting in an upcoming auction. I was totally interested in consigning. It wasn't my first rodeo as I sell vintage and sold through Swann in NYC. Swann has handled individual prints for me but not a painting. So I was hoping to find a local auction house for the painting to avoid shipping it. Swann charges 15% commission. I was waiting to hear back from Moran as I was planning to drop the painting off. That is until I heard their fee would be 35% plus a $50 fee for photography. To me that is highway robbery. I reached out to Swann as, at that rate, I'd rather ship it to them.

Every week, they take their time and do the job right. I have even used his team to build a block planter in my backyard and add rock to my parkway. Whenever I have an issue with one of my sprinklers, I take a picture and send it to him. He adds me to his list and takes care of it. The brass was dark & dull, the inside was rusted, and it was barely operational...I even commented it looked like it had been in a fire. I brought it to Just For Fun Antiques & Restorations because it was no use to me in it the current state. Ever the pessimist, I didn't think much could be done for improvement. I handed it over to Alisa & Bill with a list (literally) of hopeful demands. They were very friendly and their confidence in restoration made me feel comfortable. When I left the shop, I had a good feeling I took it to the right place. I was informed it would take about a week. During that time, I received updates & photos via texts & phone calls, which further put me at ease. One week later, it was complete and ready for pick up. Once I saw it, my goodness, it looked straight out of the box from 1956! This could easily go right back onto the set of Mad Men. It's gorgeous, works great, and is a perfect touch to my living room.
