If I could give this ZERO stars I would. This was a favorite place to eat with family, but after finding a maggot in hotdog, never again. The staff didn't even apologize but had the nerve to ask if we wanted something in replace of it. Absolutely NOT. I would be appalled if I was the owner or anyone working in there and someone come back saying this is what we found in our food. But they acted if they were not surprised or shocked. $63 for a family of four ( three girls and a man). I gave it two stars because of the entertainment made it kind of worth it. When we walked in- someone will yell at you to pick a seat. You kind of walk around and look for a clean spot to sit. The people that came in after us asked for them to clean it up a little so they could sit. Then, the entertainment began. One waitress asked for our drink order. After telling her three times what we wanted, another waitress shows up to get our drink order. The first waitress starts yelling out what we wanted several times before the second one leaves. She comes back holding the four drinks in her arms and ends up dumping one of the drinks on the table and floor- I luckily saw what was happening and moved before she dumped it on me. I thought maybe she was coming back to clean it up- but no- she stood right in the puddle and threw some napkins on the table and took our order. I told my family when she left that I had a feeling she'd be back to ask some questions- because we had to place the drink order several times. I cleaned up the spill and left the napkins on the floor- so if you go there and see the napkins on the floor- you will know where I was sitting! She comes back and asked several more questions about what we ordered- twice. Then, the other waitress comes and asked questions about our order- I finally said- whatever is easiest for you to do, that's fine. She said that the other waitress put in an order for 12 pancakes- oh no! We each wanted only 2 pancakes! lol- don't say 4 times 2! That is not 12! The food finally showed up- no refills on drinks either! I would have to say- Army food out in the field was 1000 times better! The worst toast I ever had, bacon was ok (can't mess up bacon), eggs were ok- no salt or pepper, corn bread was harder than a rock, grits were bland. Here it comes- yes, the pancakes- I have never had pancakes that bad in my life! Dry and nasty! I don't care how much syrup you put on it- it repeals all- except the canned strawberries- that soaked through the top layer and they were mushy and still tasted bad! Little bit of wake and bake with my son and it was the perfect hole in the wall southern diner! This place may not be fancy with top shelf amenities but it was clean, and food was bangin'. We split one of the breakfast platters and ordered some French toast and the food was plenty to split. P.S. Should go without saying but don't order the fruit cup at a diner... it's tiny. Someone in a Facebook group I'm in (Lake Norman Eats) recommended this place as THE place to get chicken fried steak. Turns out they were wrong. Or either I went to the wrong location? Granny's has several locations throughout the area, but this one seems to be much lower-rated than the others. Having never been to the others, I can't speculate. My experience was so lackluster, I doubt I'll be back to give them a second chance. The restaurant itself was larger than I expected when I went inside and seemed quite clean. The tables and booths are exactly as you'd expect in a place called Granny's, and I'm happy to say that they were practicing social distancing and COVID guidelines. I had the chicken fried steak but subbed mushroom gravy for the white gravy. For the sides, I chose macaroni and cheese and fried squash. My bread of choice was a homemade biscuit. Half of my meal was really good: the squash and the biscuit. The other half was not great. The macaroni and cheese tasted exactly like the boil in the bag variety straight from Sysco. The steak was fried pretty hard and the gravy was definitely not homemade and was a salt bomb. I'm not so sure I even LIKE chicken fried steak, to be honest, but this introduction to the dish was not making me a fan. The staff was kind and the food was cheap, so no harm no foul. If you are looking for food to fill your belly and you aren't too picky, this place might work for you. read more

Visited here for lunch on Sunday around 2:00 a couple weeks ago. Waited to avoid the early lunch crowd. We ordered fried chicken and was told it takes about 20 minutes. We was OK with that cause we know chicken on bone takes longer and knew it would be hot and fresh. Our food arrived probably 5 minutes later, meaning chicken was fried ahead. The chicken was all skin and tough, very little meat. The sides were fine. Should have sent the chicken back but ended up boxing it up for our dogs. Waitress was efficient and friendly but didn't ask why we didn't eat the chicken. Bottom line is we should have sent it back. I've been here several times for breakfast and it is reminiscing of a time of being younger and having breakfast at my own grandparents home. Such a friendly staff with speedy service. This is a great place for breakfast or lunch, the food is great and the staff is friendly. Large portions for the price.

We came here for breakfast before going hiking. The service was great. The servers were nice, the drinks were prompt, and the communication to let us know our food would be out shortly was a plus. No complaints with service at all. The food was your average greasy spoon food. It tasted like it probably should. The only issue for me with taste is I have developed a more refined palette. If I was still living in rural Florida where Golden Coral buffet was a treat for dinner, this place would be on point. Now, the food was edible, but it did cause me to have an upset stomach. My husband warned to not let him sit down when we got home or he would be done for the day. We were both feeling sluggish and lazy. I suggested a nap and he agreed. After getting home, however, and doing some damage in the wash closet, we opted to not nap, but to go hiking to feel healthy again. So, would I go back? Not likely, I cherish my insides too much. Would I recommend it? If you are used to this kind of country breakfast, by all means. The staff were really nice, which would make it an enjoyable place. read more

They are actual chicken tenders and not nuggets you don't feel like you've gotten robbed mine were perfectly cooked and golden brown and it came with fries and housemaid ranch dressing with 100% recommend this menu item. Do not expect to be greeted at the door. There is no sign and no customer service to tell you that you should seat yourself. Once you're seated, you may as well get comfortable, because it's going to be a while before anyone waits on you. Even then you have to shout out to let them know you're ready to order. The hasbrowns are dry and tasteless, the ham inside the omelet isn't cooked, there's no butter for the warm bread that's supposed to be toast, and don't order a side of sausage links because they will not come out until after you've paid the bill and headed toward the door. I try to eat locally, new to the area but I found a place that makes Waffle House seem like the best option. I walked in and stood next to the counter in front of the sign that says wait to be seated. Mean while the cashier was cashing out customers, I watched 5 of them be cashed out, she acknowledged me several times, so I waited and finally asked her if I could just sit anywhere, and all she said was yes. After, coming into a restaurant that had no wait for seating, I sat for another 10 minutes. Finally the waitress came over and I had an idea of what I wanted because it was a breakfast place, she stumbled through helping me with my order, as far as even having an idea of portion size. Now, I do appreciate their friendliness, but even though I was born and raised in the south, I am not their sweetheart, lol. The meatloaf is pretty good, the lasagne was overcooked and mushy, the pancakes are about the same as McDonald's (which isn't good either) and egg omelet is overcooked too. They do the bacon just the way I ask them to. Overall, it's ok if you're starving or don't want to travel too far to get good food, but seriously, I would not recommend this place. read more

We've been to this restaurant quite a number of times before with our daughter and her family, and we thought it was fairly good. Today...not so much. We were seated immediately, and before long, the server came to take our order. They have a breakfast meal on the menu that includes eggs, grits, and three kinds of meat: country ham, sausage, and bacon. I first ordered that meal but asked if I could have scrapple instead of bacon. No, can't do that (even though scrapple is on the menu and comes on other plates listed on the menu). So I ordered a different plate that did have scrapple on it. My wife ordered a Belgian waffle, expecting to get this traditional meal with the standard (in this case) strawberries with whipped cream. Then we began the wait. We were in a dining room that had altogether about 20 booths and tables of various sizes, ranging from two people to a couple with six or eight people, and as far as I could tell, only two tables had any food on it. The wait was noticeably long, but then our order arrived...with no eating utensils in sight. Another several minutes go by as we sat there looking at our food as it cooled before the utensils arrived. My wife's Belgian waffle was...a waffle with nothing in it. We had to ask for the strawberries that were supposed to come on it. No whipped cream offered. When the strawberries arrived, they were in what I'm sure was the smallest dish the kitchen had...and they'd been frozen. There weren't enough strawberries to cover even half the waffle. Most of the waffle turned out to be a piece of dry dough. This visit probably deserves either one or no stars, but strictly on the merits of past visits that were...not fabulous but certainly more positive, I'm giving it two stars. I'll probably come again sometime, but I hope the people who run this place pay a little more attention to detail and menu flexibility in the future. read more

Horrible breakfast. The only thing they were good about was getting me seated and the time it took to 'cook' it. The hostess greeted me and sat me at a booth. The server wanted to know immediately if I was ready to order as I am looking over the menu. Whatever, that's okay. I order 2 eggs scrambled with cheese, bacon, and 2 pancakes. The bacon was fine as its almost impossible to screw that up. The eggs were okay, I thought, until at the end I saw a big pool of creamy white watery fluid surrounding one end of the oddly shaped egg peninsula I was given. The pancakes were syrup resistant with NO flavor at all. The fork and knife could barely penetrate them so I only ate a bite, it was like cardboard. I told the cashier and she replied "we've had several people tell us the pancakes are bad this morning." Really? What a joke.
