This company replaced my trash compactor cabinet with a regular trash/recycle bin several years ago. Just recently, the entire bottom portion of the cabinet came loose. A call was made to "Jim Was Here, Inc." to have the cabinet repaired. I called the number listed on his website. I tried leaving a message, however, their phone would just ring and ring. Eventually, when I called, there was a voice mail that indicated their voice mail was full. I also left a message ontheir website to please get in touch with me for the repair of my cabinet. There was never any response. This company prides themselves that "no job is too small". Apparently, a small job is not worth their time. I am very disappointed with this company and have found another handy man that is more than happy to to small jobs. read more

We had set up to have Jim work for us to do some minor work. He showed up right on the dot. But it went down hill from there. When he came in he asked for the plans. We handed him the permits and the drawing that where approved by the city. He got all mad and said he could not build off these and that there were not plans. (What do we know we are not a contractor - he is). When pressed further he said we wasted his time and $600 of his money and he said we were cheap and kept insulting us repeatedly - in front of other people too. In the end we got a wonderful contractor that did the work fast and professional. This contractor used our drawings, said they were NOT a problem and understood what was needed. Our work was done, but not by Jim. Jim was rude, inconsiderate, had poor communication skills, and insulting. If he had just spent the time to talk to us and not be rude to us, he could have gotten our money (and even more if that was what it took). But that was not the road he chose to walk. Had Jim do some more work to my house. I can't say enough about the great service and quality he does. I don't have to worry about re-work and it is very pleasant working with him. I would recommend him to anyone for anything you need done to your house. He can do it all. read more

I have some random repairs around the house I needed completed. I came across Jim at a local venue and gave home a chance. I'm glad I did. Wow, I was taken aback by today's visit. I've used 'Jim Was Here' a couple of times before and had good luck - pleasant and always good work done by several different guys. Today two guys showed up and the one in charge (Jim?) had a bad attitude from the start. I don't know what his problem was but he was here to paint a few doors and install and paint a couple of others. All he could do was tell me what a horrible job was done hanging the doors, the gaps were too small and they would have to be redone before he could paint them. I told him I didn't like the idea and wasn't sure I wanted to pay for that to be done, but to give me a price so I could see what it would cost. He pointed at me and said "exactly", and said to his worker, "let's get out of here". And walked out. What a shame. Why do people who can't get along with people choose professions where they have to work with people? read more

We have had Jim and his crew out for quite a few things. He is amazing! I highly recommend him. Quality work. His knowledge is unparalleled. He handles surprises very well when doing exploratory remodel and is very pleasant to work with. Incredibly trustworthy. We have always treated him well because we treats us well. I am not agent of Carol Hoffman, I am her daughter. And I am the one that Jim tried to run over in his work truck that came inches away from hitting mt dog. I am also the one that witnessed the atrocity of Jim Was Here Inc handy work. The fact that he is responded in such a negative matter should only prove our point. We unfortunately remain neighbors so we cannot escape him or his immature tendencies. The picture I posted of an inspection report by Jims Contractors State Liscense Board is PROOF that we are not lying. The letter came in a week after our appeal to smail clamis court, so unfortunately it did not help solve or repair the damage done to our home, or be the evidence needed to win our case. But maybe it will stop you from using Jims company. FYI Jim, its not slander if its true. We fired you for many good reasons. read more

If anyone is looking for a quality handyman-this is the company to go with. They arrived on time, worked incredibly hard and cleaned up after they left. I feel the same way as David H who posted a review here 10 months ago. Jim is rude, should not be in the business if he doesn't know how to deal with clients. Told me over the phone that he did me a favor by coming out to my house-didn't provide any pricing on his so-called safety issues. During the course of the conversation, he proceeded to call me "cheap"..all he needed to say was-find another contractor. Just based on his demeanor over the phone-can't recommend him. read more

Jim was a great choice and it was clear he has years of experience. He was friendly and professional the whole way through (even nice and welcoming to our 3 dogs, too, who were getting in the way a little). Jim installed a window air conditioning unit through-the-wall, rather than in the window. About a 3 hour job he hustled through. I watched him work almost the entire time and could tell the work was carefully planned and done by a skilled handyman. I feel confident in his work because occasionally he explained to me the correct way to do things, and WHY it was the correct way. The a/c unit he installed is quiet and cools the 275 square feet room very quickly. The unit was sealed off well on the inside and outside. I would absolutely recommend Jim for future jobs, no matter the level of expertise. read more

Jim has worked on several project at our house in the past 9 months. He is very professional, thorough, clean, and hard working. He and his workers are all nice to be around. I have had the worst experience working with Jim Was Here Inc. After months I finally went to the Contractors State License Board and their industrial expert came out to evaluate the work that was supposedly finished. I received their 26 page report that states their expert "personally inspected the project and found the work DOES NOT meet accepted trade standards for good and workman-like construction" I hope this helps others avoid an emotional and financial remodeling disaster. read more

Jim has installed hardwood and natural stone flooring, moved my water heater from the inside of my house to the outside, and built beautiful shelving for a home office. I have been using Jim for about 3 years now and it has been nothing but a pleasure. He has been very reliable and reasonable and has done a great job repairing many electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general handyman jobs around the house. Generally I keep a running list for a yearly upkeep visit from him and call him in between for more urgent issues when needed. He was recommended to me from a local realtor. I've learned realtors generally know who are the "go to" folks vs the not to go to folks. He's "go to".
