Tony and his team were amazing! We had various odd jobs around the house. Here is what they did: - Repaired an outlet - Installed hooks in closets - Built and installed valances - Leveled a dishwasher - Advised us on how to fix a closet track problem - Tightened and repaired towel rack and toilet paper holder - Installed a whole wall of cat steps. I wanted to mention all of those things to show you the scope of their work. We even had a plumbing issue, and Tony was able to advise us. The most impressive photos come from what they did with the valances and cat steps, but I want to emphasize how important those other little fixes are. Tony and his crew did an amazing job tiling my fireplace! Tony came out and gave me an estimate the same day that I called him. The estimate seemed very reasonable and so I hired him to tile my fireplace hearth and the surround. Tony and his crew showed up on time on the day that we agreed on and finished the project that same day. The tile work was done perfectly and exactly the way that I pictured it. The marble hearth was laid out the way I wanted it and they even did a very nice polished bullnose edge on the marble. They didn't cut any corners and even did an initial grinding down of the existing brick hearth to make sure that the mortar would adhere properly. The marble at the hearth also sat flush with the existing floor with no visible gaps. The mosaic around the fireplace doors was also done very well and left perfectly square so that I can finish the rest of the fireplace easily. I only contracted them to do the tile work as shown in the photos. The remaining fireplace will be built out later. I would highly recommend Tony and his crew for any type of tile work. read more

I had a new bed delivered and my husband was traveling. Handy Andy is the best! I needed two old bathroom vents replaced and a ceiling fan installed in my master bath during one of the hottest weeks this summer. I honestly didn't expect an appointment so soon because of the heat wave but Andy came a few days after I called and installed everything in a couple hours. Everything looks great and works even better. All bathrooms are cooler now because the old vents were letting in hot air. Another great job just completed by Handy Andy. Tony and his crew previously completed 3 toilet installs, 3 faucets installs, plumbing repairs and carpeting of the stair case at my house and did a fantastic job. Tony was able to fix all the weird, out-of-code, plumbing issues that the previous owner left behind and to-date, everything works like a charm. Fast forward 3 months and I realized I needed a new hood/vent over my range stove. Again, some jerry-rigged, haphazard venting was installed by the previous owner. We recently had an external door replaced. We were quoted one price but when the sub-contractor got here, he instantly upped the price $100+. We agreed because it wasn't too unreasonable and we really needed to get it done. When the job was almost completed, he told us he had to cut some wood to finish the install and it would be an hourly rate. He did not want to quote a final price. With the door not finished we were stuck in a hard place. We did say finish it and we were sent to the store to buy more materials. When the job was finally finished there was a dent in our brand new door and he said it came like that from the factory. I'm not sure why he didn't show us that before the install so we could exchange it. More than likely he did it and that's really the reason why. I personally ended up replacing the door trim because he said that would be another additional hourly charge. Overall, the price was $130 more than what was quoted and would have been much more if we didn't have him stop working. It felt like a bait and switch. It might not be Tony's fault, he might not know his subcontractor is trying to take advantage of people. read more

Throughout my dealings with Tony, there are many things that just seem sketchy. Things can be said one moment and changed to the next. Without going into the details for each of them which can be debatable I just want to point out a few facts. He has not provided me with: - Receipts of the entire work via invoice updated with an additional $40 last minute on the lightbulb from his firm VMS - Receipts of items purchased for the work (lightbulbs, ballast, as well as the paint) - No contactor license provided, charged beyond basic handyman premise on the maximum a handyman can charge which is a total of $500 E-mails are so easy these days, he refuses to e-mail me receipts which he claims he had. At the end of the day, resending an e-mail is like pulling a tooth out of him...simply crazy...and quite frankly besides tax evasion I really can't figure out in the life of me as to why he wouldn't do so? He accepts only cash/checks, no credit card. His name is not Andy but Tony as his business stated and the checks aren't written to Handy Andy OC or himself either but to some firm named "VMS". Sketchy from the form of payment, the legitamacy of the company or the owner himself? Indeed, I think you get the idea... If you are thinking of using him on jobs, just think twice and check his license and use all transactions through credit cards.
