This is a cowboy dive bar at its finest. Jimbo's never changes. It's a relic to the past & a testament of Clovis' white cowboy underpinnings. I hate to bring any mention of cultural backgrounds into it but there's only one type of clientele that visits this place. We visited around 8pm on a recent Saturday & there was no bouncer at the door & no sense of organization at the bar. A single bartender was attempting to gyrate to the music rhythm while he poured drinks as a visibly-intoxicated young woman egged him on. Evidently, this inebriated young woman was part of a hearty group of regulars that crowded one entire side of the bar. Persistence and patience will eventually get you two typical bar drinks here. We managed to get a pool table but the pool tables are in high demand and if you are a group of 2 women playing, be forewarned. The male cowboy sharks circle the tables, looking to make sure you know that they are waiting for their turn. Never mind the other two tables that have larger groups playing their umpteenth round of pool at them. A group of cowboy-types, who'd evidently come straight to the bar from the field (the smell of humid grass with a tinge of cow manure was a dead giveaway), put their 4 quarters on our table in the middle of our game and kept approaching us to check to see if their turn was next. Add to that, this random intoxicated 21-ish year old who wanted to wrap his arms around me to play pool (he asked my friend permission to "try with me"), and you have a very relaxing, fun, & classy experience playing pool here. My friend & I next attempted to play darts but the dart machines were occupied by 3 different sets of lovebirds, one set passionately making out with the darts in their hands in an exaggerated public display of affection that only served to highlight the bar's machista undertones. I have never been treated so rudely in my entire life. Just a few of me and my friends wanted to try this place out on a Wednesday. I'll warn you, Wednesday nights are the busy nights. We didn't mind the crowd, we just wanted to have a fun girls night out. Well to start off they charged my card for $10 and another time for $14... I got ONE BEER! My friend was charged $24 twice and she got one drink as well.... What is up with you people? Is this how you run your business? Through stealing from everyone's credit card? Then we were near the back of the dance floor (closer to the bar) and me and my friends jumped in on the Cupid shuffle and a few line dances we were familiar with. Let me mind you, we are not professional line dancers like some of these guys and gals. We do not take classes on the weekend. So therefore we do not know every dance. The dancers start to perform an intermediate level dance and they are all up at the front. My friends and I wanted to see if we could try to do the dance since it seemed pretty simple. So we are all in a group completely out of the way and this guys comes up to us and yells at us saying "if you don't know how to dance get off the f***ing dance floor!" My jaw has never dropped so far in my life. He was so rude. And then the guy gets us to be kicked out for being rude back to him. We were appalled!!! I think the security guard even pulled out his handcuffs to threaten us. Like are you kidding me? We've had ONE drink each, and someone yelled at us so we yell back at the guy to never talk to a group of women like that again and WE get threatened by the security guard and kicked out? I'm a born and raised Clovidian (is that the right term? Sounds pretty cool, regardless) but in spite of the yee-ha George Strait and Alan Jackson upbringing that I enjoyed, I've always been leery of country bars because of their propensity to host drunken brawls and other forms of lowbrow behavior. Jimbo's, is, by all accounts, the pinnacle of lowbrow establishments in this part of the valley, so when a group of my friends invited me to go to Jimbo's with them on a Friday night, I was quite concerned. The group in question, male and female, are not above getting into a cue stick melee. Me, well, I'd rather not. I'll try anything once, so I didn't object. Thankfully, one of my friends was a DD. $5 cover. The bouncer was surprisingly friendly, as was the bartender that took our orders. The inside of Jimbo's is hard to describe (and even harder in retrospect because of how the night went) but it kind of looks like it's one small building (where the bar itself is) with what amounts to a very large awning that covers three or four pool tables, a dance floor, and a stage. There's a patio out back but I didn't go out there. It's quite rustic, but it's not anything outside of what I expected. My buddy and I played some pool, which was great even though I stunk out loud because I haven't played in forever. I was expecting some of the rednecks that were watching to give me crap about it, but no. Everyone was very cool. Even the band was decent. Not great, of course, but it was nothing more and nothing less than you would expect from a dive bar. We left at around 1130 to go get some food, and when we came back the bouncer recognized us immediately and ushered us in. Kudos to him for paying attention to his patrons. I get generous when I drink so I rapidly expedited the evening once I got back inside. We played some more pool, which I was inexplicably getting better at, and then I made the fatal mistake of sitting down at the bar. By now, all of the people in my group were sitting at the bar and having a good time. I had too good of a time; luckily I had already mapped out the location of the bathroom. I was in there at closing time, and I distinctly remember one of the employees very gently asking me to make my way towards the door. He even called one of my less-loaded friends over to help me out to the car. I had a seriously bad Saturday but I was also seriously impressed with Jimbo's and the employees in particular. It's still not my sort of scene so I wont go back there by my own volition, but I wont be so apprehensive next time if I'm invited. read more

The outside of this bar looks like the bar in Roadhouse...and I hate to admit, but the inside isn't much different! (Complete with a greasy car-salesman sleaze sitting at the bar eyeballing everyone) I was down in Clovis for an "administrative summit" and after dinner last Thursday night - the girls from work decided that this was the place to take me! VERY CHEAP DRINKS. 3 shots of Patron (usually around $6-7/shot), 2 Rum and Cokes and a Beer for $14!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a loud jukebox, and a few booths around the perimeter of the place - a big open dance floor that quickly filled up after 10pm. I am stunned they can get a cover charge to go to this train wreck. The band was horrible, I mean wow were they bad! The crowd was really random. It was as if all my teachers from elementary school got to together to party. There was also lots of country western type people here. I am not a country western person and it didn't seem like they cared that I was there so that was pretty cool. I have been to some crazy bars in Arizona and Nevada where it was clear that they did not want you at their bar if you weren't their kind. One of my favorite go-to spots in town. Bartenders, security and owner are all friendly and professional (I mean...as much as a country bar should be haha). If you want a place that will kiss your ass because you sold some weed once or think you got money or some crap...Tower is the other way. Everyone is equal. No special treatment and you are expected to act as such. Wednesday is college night. Lots of beautiful women, wannabe Cowboys and drunk people. Perfect time. But VERY crowded. The bar resembles Gilly's from Urban Cowboy. There are a lot of cowboys there, but it's now turned into a hotspot for college kids. A lot of drinking, and a lot of skimpy clothing. It's a fun bar for a group of friends. read more

Paid an admittance fee of $20 for 4 people. Couldnt get a drink because there were 2 bartenders serving a u-shaped bar. Left within 5 minutes however couldnt get a refund, NO EXCEPTIONS. Waisted money, went to Redwave, much more accommodating. read more

Absolute joke of an establishment. They kicked out my girlfriend for being drunk when she hadn't even finished her first drink. Security asked her to leave because she "appeared drunk" while having fun learning to line dance. I've seen people passed out drunk in this place and left alone in this. She was also told she sounds drunk, which is completely insulting considering that she has a speech impediment. After she was removed from the bar, the owners and security finally admitted that she "probably wasn't drunk" but they couldn't let her in. I then received a call to go and pick up my girlfriend and roommate. I called jimbos to figure out what was wrong. They told me that they had to keep her out, even though they were wrong, and she only appeared and sounded drunk at first. They said that they apologized, so they didn't know what I wanted them to do. That was all they had to say after humiliating her in front of all her friends. That was all they had to say after telling someone with a speech impediment that she sounded drunk. That was after I informed them of the her speech impediment. I still had to drive down and pick up my girlfriend, because in spite of being aware of their mistakes, they still wouldn't let her in. Once I arrived, a supervisor finally came out to tell her that she could come back in. That was after two phone calls, and me having to spell out exactly how wrong they were. When it first opened this place was cool. Now it is just a rundown, smelly maze of one dirtier room after another. The last time I went I vowed it would be my last but then I gave it one more try. It was a mistake. The entire staff are rude wannabes that feel important because they finished one sleeve of lame tattoos. The bouncers act like they are security for the president and the bartenders only want to serve their equally lame friends who are almost done with their sleeve. Some friends and I stood at the nearly empty bar for like 10mins totally ignored. Wow what can I say about this place that hasn't been said about Afganistan. It looks bombed and depleted. If you are white go there if not, Stay home becaus the drink service for you my friend is horrilbe. I have taken my multiracial friends there. We like to switch paying for rounds so when it was there turn to pay. Fuck it took at least 15 minutes. I felt bad for taking my friends there and how they were treated. But bars do have the right to refuse you service. As far as the women young and old. The older women are the way to go. Something must be in the water that women drink. Young Clovis girls are known for acting like prudes and act like they are too good for you. Reality check you live in a small town which means plenty of guys have been with you. Drinks are cheap. Gotta love "The Gym". Its been a Clovis landmark for many moons and holds a special place in my heart, even after their apparent switch away from country music and the Mason Jar's. Its just really good as a relaxing place to play some pool, enjoy some fairly priced drinks, and run into friends (and the occasional AGR alum, although I don't wear my letters there often). I just needed everyone to know tonight my son after serving 10 months on deployment was in town for short visit as he lives on East coast a navy mom and fellow Gettysburg elementary and mother to fellow Clovis high graduate and sailor came by we were celebrating his homecoming with friends and I asked female working door if one fellow navy mom could pass in line as our children our serving our country and she refused went in side calmly and owner refused also so very sad if it was capacity issue she would waitd but be next and they just didn't care or show any Patriotic spirt really sad for a bar in a proud town that honor our soldiers the wait staff was courteous but management sucked read more

Absolutely astonished, completely disappointed! We went to listen to a country band last night and felt like we had to go through a background check to get in! They checked I'd (Which is ok) then we were wanded, like criminals! Never, have I ever had that happen, like we were gang members or something. Yet! Yet! I've read the other 3 reviews and 2 I have to say were an injustice to Jimbo's. I realize everyone has their own opinion but I also realize every nightlife spot has its degenerates that frequent and to base an opinion on those that are few and far between is unfair. I personally go to Jimbo's on a regular basis and am impressed with the bartenders and the extent to which they interact with the clientel. Yes, they cater to the university setting (on Thursday evenings) which is a great marketing strategy if you ask me. My white friends swear by this place, but I had never been because it's a country bar. I can still say I've never been because they don't let black people through the door. I went at 11 on a Saturday to pick up a drunk friend, but was rejected at the door because it was "last call" and I had to wait outside for her even though I explained the situation. As I waited for my friend hoping she'd make it out alright, I watched as other people gained access without issue. Absolutely amazing, considering the bouncer knew I was still out there. Glad to know race is more important than the health and safety of their patrons. Will never try this place, and will tell everyone to avoid under all circumstances. read more

Well apparently some people are mistaking Jimbos with a yuppie sushi bar... ok? no its a great old fashioned bar. Its as close as you get to a good ol honky tonk bar to have a cold one after a long day. Jimbos is a great place to have a cheap drink and hang with friends. The dancers know what they are doing and are helpful during the beginner songs. I saw negative reviews about one of their best dancers there; a person that has helped me out lots! It is fun to watch the advanced dancers without participating if you don't know what your doing yet. read more

I honestly feel as if I am treated better and with more attention here than at any other pub or bar in the area. The beer is cheap, the conversation is usually outstanding. Of course, I leave before the bands start because I don't like drunk assholes and I'm not into chasing married women. And as for the comments on here about the bouncers, here's the deal. I've found that when one treats someone with respect, one gets respect back. Behave as an ass, get treated like one. And, oh, bars can lose their liquor license for doing a "nod nod, wink wink" with ABC laws, so don't expect any leniency. I've always gotten along well with everyone here, and I truly look forward to going here. We have a group of businessmen that makes this a required stop most Friday evenings. We relax, have a few beers, flirt with the bartender when she's a woman, and chat with Matt, Kyle, Jared, and the other guys. Honestly, this is my "Cheers". Somebody there needs to give me a free t-shirt, but that's the only complaint or whine I have. Yeah, it's a roadhouse. So what? You can see Mercedes, Lexus, and all other brands of cars here along with the requisite Ford F-150. Worst service ever. I was having a rough day and stopped in for a couple drinks. The bartender was inattentive and took breaks to smoke on a cigar, so I started chatting up three of the patrons at the bar (there were only a couple others in the bar besides us and they appeared to be the bartenders friends). I was having a great time with these folks, we were joking and laughing and then I took a shot of whiskey and slapped the grime covered bar as many people do after a shot. At this point the bartender found some time in his "busy" schedule and start chastising me for slapping his bar (he used more words at this point than he managed to address me with the entire time I had been there and used an aggressive tone). I felt uncomfortable and decided to close out my tab. Knowing that I was upset the bartender stood over me scowling as I filled out the credit card slip, I did not tip. I left promptly but was followed out by the bartender who told me my car was a piece of shit, and that he made enough that he didn't need my tip.
