Worst Jimmy John's I've ever experienced. No drive through. Got there at 9 pm. Place smelled like weed and employees looked zoned out except for the guy I thought might be the manager. Two unisex bathrooms. First door I tried was locked. Okay, I tried second door, which swung open to reveal an employee sitting on the toilet. He yelped and I was startled too, let me tell you. I went back to waiting in line. My hometown JJ could have had our sandwiches made 3x by now but I'm still waiting here. An employee comes from the back and goes behind counter so I try for the bathrooms again. No dice. What's the guy doing in there?! Now I pick up my order from the only normal and alert-looking guy in the place. Another employee comes out of the back, but I bolted out of there fast. Still smelled weed as I left. Sandwiches were sub-par, too. (Shocker). I've been to a ton of JJ's as they are my favorite fast food when on the road. I can't say enough about how they did whatever I needed to make my kids happy. Such a pleasant surprise. So happy to know this is the location that's closest to home to us. My daughter has a super loose tooth and they went so far to cut her sandwich up so it's easier for her to eat it as you can see in the pic. On December 17th 2021 I purchased a turkey provolone sub and ask for extra extra lettuce tomato and cucumber. As you can see in the picture the cucumbers were so flimsy and it looked like they were cut a couple days ago and left in the fridge without a top or some covering the lettuce I always extra extra lettuce I have always asked him to be a problem with me getting extra lettuce because I know most people don't like a lot of lettuce on their sandwich but I really like a lot and after giving the driver a tip I noticed in my bag there were not any chips in my bag this happened before the last time I ordered they had to go back and bring me my chips the first time it happened I got an apology this time when the driver went back to the Jimmy John to give me my extra tomatoes and fresh cucumbers he I called and he said his manager wanted to speak to me by the name of Alex and this is the Jimmy John's in grayslake Illinois this manager was very arrogant he act as if though he wasn't worried about his job and I was nothing else paying customer by his tone he refused to give me extra he denied the fact that the cucumbers are not right even after I asked him can I have fresh cucumbers he told me no he wasn't getting me no lettuce no nothing and not to mention never even apologize for the fact that they forgot to put my chips in the bag the second time I've give tips I am a paying customer I've been very polite and I just feel like this is not right. So. Slow. I'm not sure what the malfunction is at this location, but service is painfully slow. The staff seem put out by each customer who walks in the door. There was no greeting before, "Can I take your order?" Sandwiches take longer than necessary and are then handed off without a "Thanks" or "Have a nice day." This is not the Jimmy John's we know and love at other locations. The sandwiches were fine, really. And I'll probably be back. This is the worst Jimmy John's I've eaten at. We arrived 20 to 25 minutes before closing and they had already closed up the shop and seemed very upset to have to do their jobs and sell us sandwiches. After placing the order, they refused to label the sandwiches and when we asked them to explain which sandwich was which they told us to open them up to see. They had removed the nozzles from the soda machine as well and didn't want to sell us soda. Then, when we asked for mayonnaise they gave us a single packet. We told her we'd be by to pick up between 12:00 and 12:30. She then informed us that she couldn't take the order because the manager told her the store's not open yet. Service, service, service. Hey, there's a Subway right across the street. There are LOTS of places that I can spend my money. If you are going to take down the information and then NOT take the order, I'll spend my money elsewhere... and I won't come back. Why 5 stars? Service. These guys are on it every time we come to Six Flags. We order through the JJs app, we head out to the parking lot, they deliver by guest drop off within 15 minutes...The sandwiches are good, the delivery is fast and the savings (vs. Six Flags prices) are just right. One time they did mess up. We called and they rectified their mistake within 10 minutes. This is why they are my go to place while in Gurnee. read more

Granted, JJ's food is always consistent from location to location and my sandwich in and of itself was par. It's the service that hurts this place. Whatever happened to "Subs So Fast You'll Freak!"??? I remember the days of going to Jimmy John's, giving my order and having a sandwich in my hand before my change for crying out loud. At the Gurnee location I was standing at the end of the counter tapping my foot for in the neighborhood of five minutes. FIVE MINUTES!!! This is NOT what I've come to expect from Jimmy John's. Hell, it's not what Jimmy John himself expects from Jimmy John's ... wherever he is. This is unacceptable. I want my Jimmy John's and I want it now dammit! That is way it's supposed to be. I just left this Jimmy John's. What a horrible experience! First, one of the employees, who was driving to the store almost hit my car and didn't even look at me nor apologized. Then, I went to open the door and he was coming out with a box of sandwiches to deliver somewhere along with another employee. They both bumped into me and I had to step back. They didn't even acknowledge my presence. The female employee who was helping him carry the boxes, comes back inside and very rudely tells my husband "you need a mask. You can't be here if you don't have a mask. There, I have some on the counter". Like he was some dog. He puts the mask on and she says "what do you want?" How rude!! My husband decided not to get anything. I went ahead and ordered a JJBLT. She grabbed the brrad and threw it on the counter. Slapped the Mayo in such hurry she barely put any. Literally, threw the tomatoes, lettuce, and bacon and passed it to the next lady, who was really nice and then hurried out of the store without saying thank you. Nothing. Just out and complete rude. 3 stars only because I love the food. However, service is greatly subpar. I live in Gurnee and go to work in Deerfield and I always prefer the Deerfield Jimmy John's to this one. They welcome you as soon as you walk in the door, always have a great attitude, always a sub ready when I'm done paying or when I finish filling my soda at the least, and say thanks for coming as you leave the restaurant. This one, no greeting as I walk in, an unenthusiastic cashier that rang me up even before I mentioned that I wanted chips and a drink, had to wait a little for my sub after I got my drink ready, and nothing was said as I walked out the door. I agree with some of the past reviews; the service seems to be the main negative review about this place. That, and they are not as fast as they claim to be. What I know of Jimmy John's is how fast their service was in my home town of Milwaukee on Marquette Campus. Always open late for the munchies, cheap, and quite fast. Not the case with this one. I do not know what Reviewer Nick's problem is with the service - maybe he had one bad go of it. After eating Jimmy John's for years, we moved to Gurnee and use this location as well as the one in Grayslake on Washington. I've been here at least 30+ times ordering for a family of 4, and 90% of the time the sandwiches are done before I finish paying for them. And they are truly great sandwiches. Jimmy John's at 5250 Grand Ave. in Gurnee, across from Six Flags sucks. This franchise is poorly run. It has employees who are lazy and unwilling to provide good service and fulfill service hours posted on the storefront. Tonight I encountered two suck employees who were cleaning up at 9:50pm, when the store is supposed to be open until 10 pm. This is unacceptable since the door was locked and service should continue until the posted hours end. 10pm is not when employees are to be leaving their place of work. The food is standard Jimmy John's fare. I am a big fan of the food. Bur once again, I am yet another reviewer completely disgusted with the service at the Gurnee, IL location. When calling in my order I was thrown on hold without the person that answered so much as waiting for a response to her "Jimmy John's, will you please hold for a moment?" then I sat on hold for over 5 minutes before hanging up and calling back just to have the same thing happen again. When the person finally came to the phone to take my order, I was barely half way through when she asked me to repeat it. Telling me that her manager had come to talk to her, and without a word to me had her ear away from the phone conversing with him while I was ordering. I of course at that point asked to speak with the manager and he made no apologies, simply stuck to his side of the story that the store was very busy at that time. God help Jimmy John's if Subway ever decides to deliver, for now it looks like no more subs for me unless I have time to drive to subway on my lunch from now on. Really disappointed in this Jimmy John's. I ordered an unwich while I was working and they messed it up. They made it with bread and I physically cannot eat the bread due to a health problem. I called them and they sent me a new one. Once again, sent it with bread and this time without cheese too. I clearly just ordered an unwich (with cheese and meat) and they literally sent me a sandwich. TWICE. I finally called them and told them that I did not want them to send me another sandwich for the third time but I explained to them that it was really a simple order and that I cannot eat the bread and the worker did absolutely nothing about it. I've been to probably 20 different Jimmy John's and this has to be the worst when we're talking customer service. Food is actually great, pretty much the only reason they got 2 stars. However, nearly every time I go in, I'm never offered a bag, or even told the sandwich is ready. Even when there are many people ordering, and I've got cookies, chips and a drink, sure I'm gonna juggle all that.... not. I literally have to reach over the counter to grab a bag and bag it all myself. Also I've been in there and only I ordered a sub and chips (had a drink in the car), it doesn't mean I want a sub chips and a drink, not the second or third time I say it either! This location has the RUDEST people working there. They are always pissed off to have to do their job (especially the people taking orders over the phone. Delivery people have been ok, not great.) They treat the customer like they are stupid (ex: after placing an order for pick up via phone, I asked what time it would be ready - we live about 1 min away. I work for a local bank in the area and we had a few sandwiches delivered last week Friday. They overcharged my debit card by 13.00 and told me "too bad" they were not going to make it right. I will not recommend anyone to eat at this site due to the dishonest owners, the dishonest managers and the very dishonest drivers. In fact I told the guy on the phone the intersection I lived near and he was naming streets in the sub division I live in so it was fair to say he was familiar with it. According to his manager that is more than the one mile radius they will deliver too. By how much you ask...... Less than a hundred feet. In fact the guy said they would deliver if it was across the street. I also heard him ask his manager if they could deliver out of area for me. Heard in the background someone yell NO! On Sunday I called your location to order sandwiches for myself and 5 other coworkers. I was placed on hold immediately. While on hold for 5 minutes I heard what I thought was the guy taking an order from someone else. So, I hung up and called again thinking maybe he just forgot. I'm in the food industry too, things happen. When I called back I was asked to be put on hold again. I agreed and waited another 5 minutes before hanging up again. The third time I called back the guy answered and said "I can't take your order. We are too busy to get to the phones." Appalled, I asked "So what am I supposed to do?" His response was "I don't know but I can't take your order. We're too busy to get to the phones right now". Then I asked about the order that I thought I heard him take while i was on hold and he said that was a customer calling about their delivery order that was 45 minutes late. Pissed off, I hung up. WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEONE?!?!?! Like I said before, I work in the food industry too. Want to know what would happen if I ever said that to a customer? I would be fired. And so should this kid and whoever said it was okay to tell a customer that. It was not my fault that you're busy. I was at work too and we had a line to the door from the time I walked in at 2pm till after we closed at 10 pm. But I still made time to drive to the OTHER Gurnee location (Who were gracious enough to take our order) to get our sandwiches.
