First time at MD's in a long time. Here are some of my thoughts: -I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I looked at the menu, I was pleasantly surprised. -I ordered the pick two. I chose the "spuds" (twice baked potatoes), and southwest chicken & avocado salad. -The salad was not great--avocado was a bit mushy, the chile lime vinaigrette wasn't the best either. -The spuds were not what I normally think of as twice baked potatoes. The inside was more like mashed potatoes with gravy. I would not order this again. -It's a shame because the service was really good and friendly. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend. read more

With St Patrick's Day coming up, my boyfriend and I were craving a Rueben. Where better to go than a deli! We got there about 3 pm on Sunday (March 8) and the place was nearly empty. The turnaround from order to table was pretty quick...and we found out why. The one positive thing about their Rueben is that it was LOADED with corned beef...albeit room temperature and even pockets that were cold. The bread was only toasted; the sandwich is typically grilled. There was hardly any sauerkraut and the 1000 Island dressing was weird (tasted like there was some horseradish in it?), This is near Gurnee Mills so there is a dearth of other, better fast food options. Would maybe go again and try a different menu item...but with so many other options, it would be a last option (aka- everyplace else is closed so not likely). Very disappointing. read more

What a delightful experience. First time in store - I've only ever had McAlister's Deli at events. The store was huge, tons of seating and a nice large enclosed conference room for private meetings. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I had questions about the menu that they happily answered. I ordered the 6" Italian sub to go and a bag of chips. It was about a 5-6 minute wait for my food to be prepared. The restaurant was quiet, with background music playing. My sub was excellent. Packed with flavor and stacked high with toppings. It felt like a generous portion of meats, toppings, etc. the greens and veggies were fresh and crisp. I don't know why I've waited so long to drop in, definitely will make a return trip soon! read more

The food is very good & so is the service. I like the seating as there is enough room. I dislike places that only have a few tables & everyone is crowded. We had a corn beef sandwich & dumpling soup. The soup was good but they could have added some carrots. I prefer clear soups & not the cream type. I prefer to see what I am eating. Also this place could have free refills. The bathrooms are clean. Plenty of parking. read more

I thought overall food was pretty good. I like the baked potatoes as well as the sandwiches about what I don't like. It shows a sign with a real fork and knife to use while you're eating the food in a picture on the wall and they serve us with plastic forks and knives, I hate that if you're gonna serve people decent food you should be able to eat real fork and knife not plastic. I don't like getting plastic forks and knives and plates to eat on because the forks and knives break while you're trying to cut the food, I think it's ridiculous, I'm a no hurry to go back to McAllister's as long as their policy plastic forks and knives are still in effect. I've always found this chain to be pretty reliable as a business lunch location and that hasn't changed. My club sandwich was tasty and for two people with beverages to get a flavorful meal in a clean location for $20, I think it's pretty good value for the money. Restaurant was very clean, following all spacing safety protocols. Only ding is that service was inexperienced - it felt like the whole team was new, but they tried hard overall and I was pleased as a customer. Also of interest: As things open back up this location has a really nice bonus room with doors to close it off for anyone wanting to do a lunch n' learn or other corporate event. read more

Has good food but doesn't understand the concept of a real deli. At a deli you are able to sit and offer food but also purchase meats and cheeses. Would you consider subway a deli? Potbelly's a deli? Jersey Mikes a deli? No. Your local grocery store is more of a deli than this misleading name. Call it a cafe you're not a deli. read more

Best Rueben I've had in a non Jewish deli. Really not a deli, but maybe a deli inspired fast food joint. Good front end workers, though they are hampered by a bit of an odd system. You stand in line to order, you get a number for your table and then runners bring your food out on a tray. It's not very efficient, but it is a little entertaining to see the runners wander around laden with heavy trays looking for the numbers that match their orders. It's a little like being in a high school cafeteria watching the new kids trying to find a safe table to sit at. They have two club sandwiches, one is called a McAlister club sandwich and the other is just a club sandwich. It seemed like some sort of a trick. Why would anyone order the not-McAlister club sandwich at a place called McAlister's? Anyway, I'm not going to find out, next time I'm in this neck of the woods I'm getting another Rueben. Even though I've had Ruebens all over the place, I'm still not sure the sandwich should be capitalized as my spell check seems to insist. I know it was named after the creator, but the story might be apocryphal and we don't capitalize, sandwich, also named after the putative creator. My friend's mother invented the grilled peanut butter and raspberry preserves sandwich which I suppose should be called the Mrs. Helman, which would have to be capitalized but just to be clear that's not on the menu here. Well I've gotten to the point that "this review is looking pretty epic!" so I'll say ciao for now. read more

McAlister's is a great place for lunch/dinner if you want some healthier options. It's like a Panera where you go in and order except they give you a number then they bring the food to you after you sit down. I had the sweet chipotle chicken sandwich with a side of fresh fruit. I thought it was delicious, but it didn't have any veggies on it which I was surprised by. It could've used some spinach or onions on it. I did also try the chicken Caesar wrap, it was good but it was basically a salad on a wrap. Tons of lettuce with a few pieces of chicken. I thought everything tasted great though. I am happy to report that this new location has their act together almost immediately. Very pleasant place to go for lunch. Lots of tasty choices on their menu. Tip: Their spuds are HUGE- easily big enough to share. Only negative IMO is once the word gets out how good this place is, their existing parking lot is going to be too small! read more

The line across the street was way too long at Panera and most like myself that did not want to wait that ling decided to cross the street and come here, instead. The cashier and other worker behind the counter here were very kind and had lots of recommendations of great menu options which was really nice! The food was great so many menu options. I am giving 4 stars because of the lack Covid precautions... This was my second time here. Both times the wait times were incredibly long. Today I waited over 20min for my food. (Receipt says 12:04 order and I didn't get in my car until almost 12:30) But hey, I'm willing to wait if the food is that good. Unfortunately, it's not. First, they messed up my order, and secondly, it was so salty I could barely eat it. Receipt clearly shows southwest turkey melt which comes with turkey, bacon, pepper jack cheese, tomato, guacamole, and a type of ranch sauce. It's hard to see in the pic but there was no guacamole and no ranch (pretty much the two reasons I ordered it otherwise I could have just gotten a club) and this is after the manager asked what I ordered while waiting. And to second another review...they apparently cannot change anything once it goes in the system to be careful. She marked me dine in without asking and when I said to go she had to go tell the kitchen and wrote a comment on my order instead. Didn't really bug me but seeing as they rush you to order when you're just glancing at the menu be careful to know exactly what you want without edits! read more

Stay away from ordering the veggie spud. SIX TIMES in a row, either the spuds were sitting in the warmer for too long, came out cold or in this case, they were cooking it AFTER the rest of my party were served their food and eating. I like the food and options over Panera but ordering online is a painful and upsetting experience. The orders are wrong, late or simply don't exist which is worse when it's a company order. Today, I called as soon as they opened to confirm my order and ensure it wasn't missed, the man who answered the phone verbally confirmed it and promised me an earlier delivery time. The time came and went and when I called, the same man first said they already delivered it, then said they never received it. All of that after confirming! I have 12 people waiting in a meeting and it is not the first time it has happened. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was hung up on which did not make anything any better. Called to request a refund as I was too far from the store by the time I had dropped the lunch off for my husband and his co-workers. Saya the manager, proceeded to yell, talk over me, and hung up on my twice. He further stated that I told him to go to hell, to which I absolutely did not say. He also said the customer is not always which right and hung up on me again. He said he needed to talk to the person that rang me in to get her side and I stated I just wanted the refund. This is the 4th or 5th time visiting McAllister Deli in the past few months. I always have the New Yorker and have always enjoyed it...this time not as much. I really wanted to like this place- unfortunately, it fell completely apart, as a go to. While the Rueben was stacked with meat- it seemed to be sliced off of a loaf, slightly dry, and with at MOST a teaspoon of dressing, and sauerkraut. The meat clearly wasn't slow cooked, REAL corned beef. It looked and tasted exactly like pre fab meat- no fat, no marbling, no difference in pieces, or texture. Very disappointing. Then- the salad. We just ate here for the first time. We walked in around 8:45 pm. There was no one in the restaurant, however, there was a teenaged employee mopping the floor. He came to the counter to take our order. My husband and I placed our order and I said I wanted to change my order (we had not paid at this point). The employee told us once it is put into the computer, you can't change your order. What?!?! Fine. He then went to get our drink. Remember he had been mopping the floor. He never washed his hands and touched the cup, ice and drink dispenser. When our food arrived, it was okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. I had potato salad with my sandwich. It tasted like every other potato salad you get from the grocery store. Husband said his sandwich was pretty good. Hubs got a refill on the ice tea. The young employee again went to fill the cup without washing his hands. My husband asked him if he could wash his hands before filling it. The other employee looked at the teenage employee and said, "You need to be washing your hands!" At least it sounds like they are training the employees to wash their hands. Sigh! read more
