DON'T bring your child here because they do not offer full services for them! Establishment needs to find a new receptionist that can do the job right. I used to come here regularly but stopped because of the dentist's wife, who works at the front desk. Unfortunately, she always came across as unfriendly and cold, and her demeanor made the office feel unwelcoming. The dentist himself is fine -- he's thorough and professional -- but the front desk experience completely changed how I felt about coming here. The final straw was one particular incident. I knew there was a chance I going to be 20 minutes late, due to a important Dr appoint, , so I called the night before and explained I'll be driving from LA, and left a voicemail to let them know out of respect. When I arrived -- just 15 late, the receptionist told me I couldn't be seen. I explained that I had called and left a message the night before, but she was rude and unapologetic. She told me they were "too busy answering calls" that morning to check voicemails. I'm sorry, but that's not my fault. I made the effort to notify them ahead of time, and it's unprofessional to ignore messages from patients trying to do the right thing. She insisted I reschedule and showed no flexibility or understanding. I walked out knowing I'll never step foot back. Another issue is that I feel a bit misled regarding their services for children. When I asked if they see children, they said yes -- but they did not disclose that they only provide BASIC services like x-rays and teeth cleanings. They cannot perform tooth extractions or any surgeries. Had I known this, I would have gone somewhere else instead of wasting time and having to find ANOTHER dentist. They only see children for very limited services. This should be fully disclosed upfront. Another thing worth mentioning: they have a small dog in the office. While it's cute, I don't think it's very professional since some patients may have allergies. Unfortunately, due to the unprofessional front desk experience and lack of full disclosure about pediatric services, I will not be returning. read more

(I don't think they can be beat) The doctor: he's kinda cute The office staff: kind, nice, SMART My only problem, and I think this is the BIGGEST POSSIBLE PROBLEM you can have it with ANY dr... Is the doctor is NOT LISTENING, "believing" to the patient. So, my puppy-child chewed my retainer‍ I needed to get it rebuilt. When explaining how and WHY my retainer / Appliance was built (To close gaps my braces didn't finish closing And then retain) and how it was explained to me Directly from my original orthodontist, Dr. Stroh, the dentist at Jimmy Lau was arguing back at me telling me that's Not why it was designed even though that's Precisely what my original orthodontist said, how he adjusted then, as well as I had been living with my retainers since 2004??! I was flabbergasted, shocked, and chagrin that ANY dentist/doctor would be so Arrogant to disregard what their patient is POINTEDLY telling them, as if the patient is just making it up! I've heard horror stories about doctors like that before but I've, personally, NEVER had a doctor like this before... even if I've had a Dr disagree, we work cooperatively in parallel on the problem to solve the issue in a Congenial way. As a patient, I should never feel that my dentist / doctor doesn't believe me because I'm putting my trust of my body into their hands. I DEFINITELY DON'T want to be Arguing with somebody who I am trusting with my HEALTH. But this is a learning experience: just because a doctor has great reviews on Yelp does not mean they know how to RECEPTIVELY LISTEN to a patient. That's literally a medical professionals MOST IMPORTANT job! Thank God I have the original retainers (because if I would have had to draw it out or try to explain it out I know they wouldn't have believed me then either). But thanks to the Smart Lady in the front of the office, they actually did send my original in to the lab to be re-created. I'm extremely appreciative of that. The day I received the Original retainers ('04), they popped into my teeth Perfectly, snug, comfortably. Yet, even though it only been 2 weeks from mould to delivery of these new ones, they are very uncomfortable and they push the back of my teeth out and weren't quite adjusted to my mouth. Normally I would just work with the orthodontist to make some adjustments so that it would fit perfectly and comfortably. But because he made it clear he wasn't "believing" what I was trying to explain to him, I just got up, thanked him for recreating my retainer and left, because I don't want to be arguing with somebody who's been working on my teeth/ retainer for all of 5 minutes who thinks he knows Everything when it took both me and my orthodontist working together 4.5 YEARS getting my teeth right. read more

I can guarantee that the other negative review is definitely a genuine review because I had the same horrible experience. After orthodontic treatment here, my gums receded severely and turned into a serious black triangle problem. And my teeth kept getting darker over and over again, causing me to have to come back here frequently for cleanings. Being trapped in such a vicious cycle, these consequences have never happened to me before. What's even more frightening is that some of the staff here have very poor service attitudes and very bad tempers. The business card here advertises "All PPOs and MEDICAID accepted". In fact, every time I have my teeth cleaned, I have been asked to pay in cash, and I have all the bank statements as proof. I spent a lot of money here and received such poor service in the end. One of my favorite dentists I've been to in all my life. This place is very clean, and Dr. Lau is awesome. He teaches and walks you through things, he's very receptive and open and I will probably be coming here for the rest of my life (if I still live in this area). Decent parking lot with typically a lot of spots available. He does have his dog walking around at times (they don't bother or go close to you, they're very friendly). Before having a job and getting dental insurance I had always went to random dentistry recommended by family or found on advertisement once in a blue moon when my teeth pain gets intolerable, cavity needs removal and filler, or because I needed wisdom tooth removal and had to pay in cash. The dentists I've had all seemed as if they're always in a rush in and out of the patient's room. Don't wait for anyone nor do they seem like they want to. And charge an awful amount of money. However Dr.Lau gives a complete different type of treatment than many of the dentist stereotype. The fact that he only have 5 star rating on yelp and people keep coming back smiling might be one of the few reason I want to vouch and continue vouching for this place. Private parking lot, never packed. Price, reasonable. Staff, extremely friendly. Office dog (yes you heard me, office dog) extremely adorable. Dentist himself? Extremely polite, respectful, and helpful. He is patient enough to answer all your questions/concern. And that's something any patient would want their doctor to have! He's not the type of dentist that will lie to you about the need for fillers when it's not necessary and extremely detail when it comes to teeth cleaning! I started going to Dr. Jimmy Lau for my cleanings when I moved to Monterey Park a couple years ago. He is fast, efficient, and honest. I had been having pain for a couple years when my last dentist installed a crown (2nd to last molar) terribly and I didn't trust them to repair it. Dr. Lau was able to install a new crown for me and it is fantastic, no pain and I don't even notice it. He was also able to replace my temporary crown the same day when it cracked. I had a root canal that needed to be done, after realizing what was phantom pain for years in a tooth became a horrific painful mess. I went to Dr.Lau same day and he diagnosed and gave me antibiotics. I went in for three appointments which the front desk lady kindly scheduled after she explained what each entailed: oh you will want to do this before lunch because you'll be numb. Each of my appointments were concise, quick and done well. He wasn't very chatty which I actually appreciated. I hate getting asked questions and interactions when I just want to zone out for a bit. He did all the root canal himself with minimal assistance so I give him a lot of credit to knock that out on by himself when I usually feel like I'm getting a heart transplant when I have an endodontist do it with their team of people. In general, he doesn't try to find work to do and over charge you for anything. He's a bit of a drive for me depending on time of day but honestly he's plenty worth it. Now I just need to get that dog of his to sit in my lap during my procedures. read more

Came here on Saturday to get my teeth cleaned and checked! It was a busy day in the office but I made myself cozy in the waiting area. The office is clean and nice with ample chairs. The staff here was friendly and sweet. The checkin process was fast and simple. Xray was done fast and comfortably, I usually get scratched in my mouth from the process but that didn't happen here! Dr. Lau went over the pictures with me and addressed some of my concerns in simple words. He did a wonderful job cleaning my teeth, I had always found the process painful but it was so painless and fast when he did it! I thought it was funny that he'd ask me questions while cleaning, and I'd answer with my mouth open, and surprisingly he knew exactly what I was talking about LOL Definitely recommend this clinic for anyone looking for a skilled dentist! I left crying today & with a new missing filling. I had gone in a few weeks ago and explained to Dr.Lau how I have super bad anxiety. I explain that I have sensory issues too. How I'm beyond afraid of things in my mouth and how I had upset a dentist because of it. Asked him if he would be able to accommodate and be patient with me. He assured me it wasn't an issue. Today I was supposed to go do a deep cleaning. He showed me how to floss and in the process popped out my filling, a big filling. I haven't ate since I left at 2:30pm, it's now 10pm. Im afraid to eat cause I already have a missing achy filling on the opposite side. Well today I left crying. I went in with such hopes. I was nervous but I was excited too. Dr.lau was showing me how to floss, pops out my filling. Just brushed it off and said I have fillings to work on next time. He put the numbing cream on and immediately wanted to use the needle. I wasn't numb yet. I asked him if we can wait for it to kick in since I wasn't numbed. He STOP ALL WORK. he actually told me he would send me to the specialist. I GOT KICKED OUT. the front staff told me they don't actually referred for that. That I could google it myself or they could and I would have to call to see if they would take me. Now I'm looking for a new dentist, AGAIN. I been crying all day. I just wish he would have said he wouldn't be able to be my Dr instead from the beginning. read more

Ever since I moved down to the 626, I've been hesitant on looking for a dentist, let alone find the right dentist. Now that I'm pregnant and almost due (@37 weeks) I knew I had to get a teeth cleaning and have my teeth checked on at some point before I deliver. I found Dr Jimmy Lau via Yelp and had such a great experience from making an appointment to leaving their office. I called a few days ago and the office had an appointment opening just a few days after - hooray! I'm grateful I was able to come in as a new patient and on such short notice. I knew I had plaque build up and was worried my gums were receding from my pregnancy. Dr Lau did the cleaning and he was gentle and extremely thorough. The office was quiet, clean, and really pleasant. Dr Lau is really personable and so is his staff too! I'm happy to have found his dentistry and I look forward to coming back here! read more

I called, gave them my insurance information, and asked that they confirm that my insurance provider was in network for them and that it would be covered. "Yes" was the response. I went, and now they are charging me $200 out of network. My regular cleanings and exams have always been zero out of pocket cost. I have never had this sort of behavior from any medical office, so this was extremely surprising and disheartening, as I would have made it my regular dentist had it not been for their expensive mistake. The cleaning and exam itself was good, and the staff friendly enough. Will not return, and recommend that you stay away unless you confirm with your own insurance that it's covered, not the practice itself, as it seems they do not know (hopefully not intentionally misleading). read more

My husband and I had our teeth cleaned for the first time with this Dentist. We appreciate the gentle care from the dentist and X-ray technician. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Most importantly is their integrity. The dentist carefully reviewed the X-ray and recommended the service we needed and explained why we don't need the service we requested. That saved our time and money. They managed appointments efficiently. People were called in within a few minutes after they signed in. We did not have to wait too long for our turn either. I did my first time whitening here.The office is more like a family style dental office. I like Dr. Lau coz he's a very nice person. He's very patient and friendly. He can speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese,it's easier to communicate for me. All the price is fair, unlike other dentists they just want to rob ur money. After whitening, he told me how to protect my teeth and keep them more whiter and healthier. He's quite decent dentist. When I at the office I see a small cute white doggie. The staff said it's Dr.Lau's dog and he takes to work everyday. That's so cute!!! The front receptionist was really nice and she was honest with my insurance policy unlike the old place i went to. The waiting area was cozy and comfy. The nurse who did my x-ray was little rough. I told her that it hurts but she kept telling me to bite down the film, she seemed to be in a rush. My mouth now has some blisters because of those plastic films were poking me. I was wearing my glasses and she just took it off without asking and put it on the table with the glasses faced down. Dr. Lau was very nice and really took his time. The 2 other places i went to clean my teeth, they never flossed my teeth afterwards but Dr. Lau did. I was really happy with the results. I definitely come back for yearly check up. My friend recommended Dr. Jimmy Lau to me, which I'm glad she did. I went to his office 2 times now. Make sure you make an appointment in advance. They are very on time with their appointment, which I'm really happy about. They accept cash or PPO insurance, no HMO. They still use those old x-ray films style, which may a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, everything is good. Oh, and did I mention that when you see him, the staff gives you a travel kit (travel bag, toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss)?! I came here a few years ago after covid hoping to find a good general dentist. I had some discomfort on one of my crowns. The assistant only took certain X-rays on me not all the nessesary to properly diagnose my problem. Dr. lau ended up shaving a bit of my crown said the way I bite was causing trauma. So he "fixed it". Time later I still had pain decided to go somewhere else and yup my tooth (that had a root canal and crown) had a big infection. And was no longer saveable. FYI tooth infections don't happen overnight. Overall if I had been properly diagnosed by Dr. Lau and if he had requested full X-rays including my roots it would have shown my problem. My tooth could have been saved with a retreating of a root canal. But thanks to not properly diagnosing right I lost my tooth. I hope when people decide to trust a dentist they make the right choice, ask questions and do your research. It's quality over quantity. My experience here was bad, I'd rather have a caring dentist/staff that sees me as a person in need of care not as a paycheck. I just hope that this office takes care of their patients and not just do it for money and if not they are in the wrong field. read more

I have been to Dr. Lau three times in the past two months, once for a cleaning and x-rays, second for a temporary crown and third for a permanent crown, just yesterday afternoon. Happy with the work performed and care received. All the positives you read about Dr. Lau are true, he is a great dentist. His staff is also nice, once they become familiar with you. After 4 months delays by my previous dentist I found Dr. Jimmy Lau. Got appointment within days. The assistant did the standard X-ray. No issues except she is soft spoke and with the mask, it was hard to hear her. Moving on to cleaning, Dr Jimmy checked the xrays and found no issues. He then proceeded to clean my teeth with the ultrasonic dental pick. Again no issue, however he doesn't talk with you. My other hygienist would ask me to turn or tilt my head. She would also explain what she was doing. She would also stop and ask me to close my mouth to help suction the excess water and debris. Not Jimmy, he doesn't ask or say anything. Maybe some people like to sleep through their cleaning but I don't. My other hygienist does use her instruments to scrap and clean lhe teeth after the ultrasound. Dr Jimmy doesn't. I would have preferred a more through cleaning. read more

I was long overdue for dental cleaning so I decided to yelp and I came across this dental office. I had the best dental cleaning experience here. I've gone through 3 different dentists in the past 3 years. Dr. Lau is now definitely my dentist of choice! I had an appointment set for 4pm and showed up 10 minutes beforehand. Checked in with the receptionist at the front and was handed the basic information packet since it was my first visit. Shortly after, I was brought into the main area where one of the other staff did my X-rays. Dr. Lau greeted me after the x-rays were complete and briefly went over it with me in layman terms. The cleaning process was smooth and no hiccups. Some of the other dentists I've gone to in the past had made me bleed during the cleaning but not here! I got seen pretty quickly and Dr Jimmy gave me an awesome cleaning. I felt so much better after! My mouth and teeth felt clean and healthy.
