We had our sisters bridal shower at Jimmy Max today and all I can say is WOW, it was perfect. The new party room is beautiful. The food was delicious!!! The sangria, mimosa's and drinks were so good. The staff was so friendly, helpful and attentive. Erin and Isabel went out of their way to make our sisters day so special, as did the rest of the staff. The experience was just ok. Nothing special. More restaurants needs to pay closer attention to training their staff. I asked if the mushrooms were fresh or canned. The waiter had no idea and started every sentence with, "i think." Please, please, please be sure of the menu. Memorize it and know it so that you don't make the establishment look silly (by the way, they don't use fresh mushrooms!!!)! My friend and I each ordered the bar pies and shared the mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella was just, meh. Lacked flavor and salt. Anyway, we were assured that the pies were a small portion fit for one. Well, that was a lie. The bar pies are plenty large! This was the one thing that was pleasantly surprising. However, the pies had very little cheese and very little sauce. The sauce was super thin and watery. Again...lacking flavor. Would I dine here again? Probably not. It's a cute establishment, but leaves a lot to be desired. This is not the place for pizza. This place is kinda weird. First off, service is spotty, as the people seemed annoyed when we first came in and weren't that attentive. However, to be fair, he Staten Island Yankees were playing on a TV in the other room. We were the only ones in the place, although it was between lunch and dinner. The place was wood paneled and atmosphere was minimal, although the chairs were nice. We got a bar pie and a Jimmy Max special to share. The special was mostly mozzarella with little splotches of tomato and a lot of basil. It was almost the reverse of a normal pie, which would have tomato sauce all over with splotches of cheese. The tomato was decent but there was fair too little of it, the cheese was good quality, and there was too much basil. The crust was ok, didn't really stand out that much at all. The bar pie wasn't worth the bother, as the crust was even worse, the cheese were unflavorful, and the sauce had a oddly-spiced taste. However, like most bar pies, it was cheap, and they cut it up into very small pieces. One of the guys I was with compared it to Elio's, although I didn't think it was that bad. This place isn't bad for a local spot, but I wouldn't come here otherwise. There are much better places in Staten Island if you're visiting. On a positive note, they have a kids pizza-making station on Mondays and Tuesdays. :) read more

I was pleasantly surprised when walking in for lunch with friends to find this place renovated after so many years! Def an improvement! Looks more of a restaurant then a pizzeria. We ordered just a pie but i was a little disappointed. The pizza is usually delicious and perfectly cooked. When we received our pie part of it was burnt and it had flecks of burnt stuff on top of the pie. Thats why im giving 3 stars. Im not saying i wont come back. I ordered a buffalo pie tonight with no celery which I paid for . I received a chicken parm pie with box suave and just chicken cutlet . It was disgusting . I called to tell them they sent the wrong pie or they made it wrong . They realized they made it wrong. The girl told me The kitchen said the only thing wrong with it is that there's no hot sauce so they would only send the hot sauce. I was shocked . Not only was I out of my 18$ , I had no pie to feed my Family because the first one already tasted like crap ! And are they serious ?! I ordered fresh mozzarella bar pizza and I loved it! I ordered calzone with spinach and sicilian pie for my parents once. I enjoyed the calzone. Somehow the sicilian pie is a little doughy, I am not sure why it wasn't fully cooked. It was still good. They forgot to add extra tomato sauce for the calzone. This review is solely based off a large party we attended last night, a Sunday evening. Normally, I have always enjoyed Jimmy Max, the food and service have been good. However, they clearly cannot handle anything other than a children's birthday party or the normal dinner crowd. We attended what was supposed to be a luncheon following a christening. With the entire dining area rented out, we started off being served quickly, with courses coming on time. However, there were only 2 waitresses working a room of about 40-50 people. They were doing the best they could, but it just seemed like they forgot there was a large party coming. About 2.5 hours into the meal, they then just STARTED to take orders for the main course. If there were already limited options to choose from, why not take orders when people first got there? We then waited another 45 minutes to an hour for the courses to arrive. Again, it just really seemed like they had no idea how to handle a large party. When people actually start to clap because they're finally receiving food, that's not good. The penne vodka served during the pasta course was delicious. I chose chicken francaise as the entree and it was good, but not worth waiting that long for. Also during this hour wait for the food, not a single waitress walked around offering drinks or even some sort of appetizer. They could have easily thrown some bread on the table. Also, the salad dressing was so thick, it would not even pour out of the container, which didn't seem super normal to me for balsamic dressing? What was supposed to be a 2 hour luncheon somehow turned into over 4 hours.While I do normally love Jimmy Max, I now know to never have any sort of party there. read more

This place is a joke, I was informed that the owner puts a cap on the drivers credit card tips. If you tip your driver more then $10 on a credit card the owner only gives the driver $10 and keeps the rest. How is that even legal? So a driver who uses their own gas, who sometimes don't get a tip from people also gets stiffed from their employer. This is beyond crazy. I feel bad for the drivers. I've been here with my boyfriend before the pandemic and the food is amazing. They have great portions and I love the pasta dishes. They are just delicious. The staff is also very kind and generous towards us. Constantly checking if we needed anything and if we were okay. Loved the atmosphere, and the prices are just right. Haven't been to Jimmy Max in a long long time. My wife and I were in the neighborhood, so we decided to stop in. They upgraded the interior and made it more comfortable and added TVs. The bar already had a good crowd. We were promptly seated. I ordered the Regular Pizza and my wife ordered Fried Shrimp. Sorry to say that the Pizza was not what I remembered. The dominant flavor of the Pizza was SALT. I could barely taste the Tomato Sauce. The Fried Shrimp were average at best. Sadly, we were really disappointed with the food. Your Child's First Bar Pie Jimmy Max is one of the best neighborhood spots anywhere. One side is a dark bar, busy and noisy, and the other a warm, bright, fun dining room. Everything is wood and the staff are happy to play along.  The Jimmy Max Special is advertised for the "Pizza Connoisseur". It's basically all the normal ingredients of a "regular" pie with more adjectives: "Our own fresh mozzarella, plum tomatoes, freshly chopped basil, extra virgin olive oil and freshly grated pecorino romano cheese". But honestly, you shouldn't come to Jimmy Max for the connoisseur pie, the bulls-eye is the bar pie. It's made in the shape of a boat, and does not resemble anything found in the 5 boroughs. Don't just consider it a spectacle though, you'll like its strong flavors and crunch.  Opened: 1989 Distinction: Kid friendly, they even have a Kids Pizza Seminar. Bar pies are rare in NYC, so while this might not be a Milwaukee legend, it definitely deserves special mention here. read more

Local dive bar, ghastly interior, flat soda, overall not the best place to eat, and the staff is average. However.... Jimmy Max is home to the best,...the best margarita pie in all of NYC, and I stand by that, and its why I have been ordering from them for years. I have ordered from Jimmy Max's offen and the last 3 times I have ordered they have messed up my order. Today is the last time I will be ordering from them. I asked for a pie with half pepperoni and meatballs and half plain the pie came with pepperoni and meatballs all over it. Was walking to the store and got cat called from one of the Jimmy Max van drivers and proceeded to wait 40 minutes for an order of simple calamari which turned out to be greasy and rubbery. Great restaurant! My family has been coming to Jimmy Max for years because of the great food. Yesterday, on a Sunday, we decided to take our kids, several of their friends and their parents to get lunch after completing an escape room activity. I realized how thoughtless it was to just show up without a reservation when I said to the Jimmy Max hostess that we have a group of 14. This family-owned pizza place is rather charming, and I was impressed by the mostly-white pizza and the proliferation of basil, my favorite.
