I was really looking forward to this stop today at Jimmy's as it has a high rating and it is my first stop on my BBQ tour 2018. Unfortunately they were out of the smoked bacon at 3 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. One reviewer described the smoked bacon as enjoyable as having sex. Who wouldn't want to try that? If you are known for something you shouldn't be out of it, that is an automatic deducted star. Especially early in the day. The service girl was very nice and greeted me warmly. The décor is exactly what I would expect from a BBQ place. I liked the handwashing station in the dining room. Nice touch. There was music on but I don't remember what kind. Why not the blues? An a TV tuned to the Villanova woman's basketball game. The brisket sandwich was not very good. Dry. I did BBQ sauce it. I preferred the vinegar BBQ sauce to the sweet but both were good. I should have went with the pulled pork or chicken. Bummer. I loved the coleslaw! Coleslaw is one of my favorite sides and could have eaten a lot more of that. Creamy and dreamy! The "dirty Corn" was okay but I thought it was incomplete. I looked up a few recipes and none of them seem to be a version that was here at Jimmy's. I think some bacon and maybe some sweetness would make this dish better. Drink wise just your basic Coke products. read more

Great experience ! It was 1st spot on our BBQ and burger tour that I made up for Chester county. It was very satisfying ! Atmosphere was classic BBQ Decor no frills home style feeling. It is byob and tables are set with three different types of BBQ sauce. Hot BBQ , sweet and bold, and vinegar BBQ. There is also a hand washing stashing and plenty of napkins for you to clean up after eating their delicious food. The owner Jim , introduced himself and made us feel at home ! He was happy to chat BBQ ! We started off with the smoked bacon (a must have) then ordered the ribs, brisket and spicy pulled chicken. For sides we had the mac and cheese , smoked beans (phenomenal ), corn bread , dirty corn and whipped sweet potatoes. The brisket and ribs were our favorites ! This is the first very disappointed time going to Jimmy's. These ribs were not edible. They were way overcooked and I'm trying to understand what it is that they gave me. It's literally burnt pieces of meat and I have been coming here a while now. I only gave 1 star because I waited 20 minutes for this after driving 45 minutes. To give this a fair review I am comparing it against other BBQ joints that I visited in the past. The good thing about Jimmy's BBQ is that they do not have any BBQ competitors. The bad thing about Jimmy's is that they do not have any BBQ competitors. For a Main Line BBQ place, I guess this would be tops. However, in the South this establishment wouldn't last for more than a year. Everything is very simple, which is not bad. Paper towels on the tables with a small variety of sauces (hot, vinegar and an unlabeled one that turned out to be traditional BBQ). Various pieces of artwork and a TV, nothing fancy and this is what a Main Liner would probably consider camping. The menu is rather limited for a BBQ joint. There is the standard fare of pulled pork, chicken, sausage and brisket. However the sides are rather limited to those that you would find at a family picnic. In other words I don't own a deep fryer, however I would love for a restaurant to own one so I can enjoy french fries. The sandwiches come with a small little cup of mediocre cole slaw. I would even settle for macaroni salad, but it isn't on the menu. I also feel that the prices are much too expensive for the food that is given to you. I paid $7.25 for a pulled pork sandwich, without any major sides. That still didn't include my soda or my tax. One thing that is very unique to this spot is the smoked bacon, this stuff is something I never had prior to Jimmy's, and it makes a great snack/appetizer to share with a few others. The service was another thing that made this whole experience as great as a field trip to a box factory. I arrived with a friend and met up with four others that already placed their order. So as we placed our order we waited for the food to be delivered to the table. As expected, it does take time. So much time elapsed, that the other guests that ordered after us were served first. They got similar if not the same meals and we were shocked that it was not first come first serve. The majority of the table completed the meals before two of our guests got their order. Try this in Texas and you might get a spur in the ass. I would think after being opened for over two years they can manage a lunch crowd, but it doesn't seem to be true. One last thing about the food that I didn't care for was that the pulled pork comes out dry, and you need to add the sauce. Yes it has its benefits, but why can't you place an order and tell them you want it tossed in one of the three sauces that they offer? Also the three previous times I have been here, the service/food was not that far off from this experience. Bottom line pork is one of the cheapest meats that money can buy, and the only reason this place can charge the prices that they do is because they are on the Main Line. At the very least to the service, I would like to see some improvements to the service. I WANT to like this place, but it is tough with all of these gaps. read more

My boyfriend and I came in very hungry, thanks to our good friend Mary Jane, and we were pumped to try Jimmy' s rendition of barbecue. We put in our order for two platters and two sodas. The cashier, a young man, who I'm assuming picked up on our "temperament" so to speak, overcharged us by $10. I tried to correct him, but he insisted that his math was right. Then, a manager appeared, and keyed everything in, and it was actually $11 over. I let the jilted feeling go and was excited to enjoy our meal. Mashed Sweet Potatoes - 3.5 out of 5 Creamy and sweet. Very good. My boyfriend and I polished these off first. Cornbread - 0.5 out of 5 Cold and dry. We sent it back and asked for a side of macaroni and cheese instead. Macaroni & Cheese - 3 out of 5 This dish consisted of lightly overcooked elbow macaroni submerged in a think, gloppy white American Cheese sauce. It was rich and had good flavor, but unfortunately it was cold. Smoked Beans - 2 out of 5 Nothing special here...these tasted like Bush's mixed with a smoky BBQ sauce. We threw away 90% of this side. Pulled Chicken - 2.5 out of 5 Decent. I did like the lemon pepper seasoning, but I'm not sure how it ties in to the barbecue spice palate. The rotisserie chicken at my local supermarket is moister and softer than Jimmy's rendition. Brisket - No Rating My boyfriend had the brisket and he enjoyed it very much. He mentioned repeatedly how tender it was. I did not try it because I'm not a huge fan of brisket. As an aside, I didn't particularly like how the Styrofoam cups were all dirty from someone's gloves. It may just be something that irks me personally, but I thought I should note it. Overall, I wasn't overly impressed and likely won't be back. read more

We are very frequent diners at Jimmy's BBQ and rarely leave disappointed. We have tried some other local BBQ establishments and always end up returning to Jimmy's the next time we are craving BBQ. The boys usually get brisket or ribs, but my favorite is his pulled chicken. I have never had pulled chicken as moist and delicious as his. It is wonderful. This way, the sauces on the table really are a compliment and not just the only way to moisten the chicken. My new absolute FAVORITE thing on his menu is the spicy pulled chicken sandwich. This sandwich is DOIN IT RIGHT. The pulled chicken is tossed in Frank's hot sauce and comes with ranch dressing on the side. YUM. We always love seeing Jimmy, and he is very welcoming and friendly and always chats with us about our cars. :-) Give Jimmy's a try! I think you will hard pressed to find another local BBQ establishment you will like as much. read more

Just placed an order through DoorDash, and I was amazed by the amount of food I received! Monstrous ribs --- are these wild boar ribs?! (They were great; had the 'tips' and a nice bite!) The hot sausage was juicy and spicy, and the cut of cornbread was incredibly generous. I can be quite a glutton when I'm tucking in to BBQ but didn't come close to finishing this "plate". Also, if you're doing Keto or Paleo you can rest easy knowing that the sauce comes on the side... But you won't have to worry about your carb macros because their meat shines even without the sauce! read more

My wife and I just ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs for $13- Ribs were EXTREMELY FATTY . Ribs were decent size with NO or VERY LITTLE meat. For me, the star of this place is the smoked bacon; you just can't find anything like it around the region here. It's delicious, it's rich, it's just so good; and it's a perfect meal when paired with a nice cut of Jimmy's homemade cornbread and the southern tea they keep on tap! Let's get this straight: Jimmy's smoked bacon is nothing less than a gift from God! All I need when I come here is 2 cups of smoked bacon , some tea, and a cut of cornbread (even though it's a little dry). Jimmy's is not the coolest looking place to be and I'd love to see the other meats smoked a bit more flavorfully; but Jimmy & his staff are refreshingly nice and his sauces are very good. I was in this weekend with my kids and was very disappointed . First off it was freezing in the restaurant no heat and door was open. The soda machine had no ice- Drinks in the fridge only choice was coke zero- which is nasty , maybe get some ice tea. Sausage was good but the wings were overcooked, and left a nasty taste in your mouth. I ate here years ago and it was great not sure what happened here? Suggestions put on the heat- Fix the ice situation- Get real coke of Pepsi for the fridge. Lastly ditch the cold corn it was nasty. read more

If you like fatty and reheated BBQ ribs at a premium price, then Jimmy's is the place to go! You are not missing anything by eating outside next to the shopping center's driveway for Jimmy's never had air conditioning, but at least there was never an extra charge for the houseflys that buzzed you during the entire meal. Be aware that for take out, Jimmy only offers a small cup of bbq sauce with the ribs. If you ask for me, get ready to reach into your pocket again. Hey the best news is that you'll be thinking of Jimmy's BBQ again hours after finishing up the last rib when you won't be able to leave the house. read more

The brisket sandwich remains my favorite menu item. I recently tried the ribs (they were okay) and mac and cheese (an awesome choice) which were both tasty, but overpriced in my opinion. The brownies are sometimes hit or miss. Earlier this week I got one that was stale and crumbly, but the one I got today was evidently fresh as it was still warm. (It was also thicker and cut bigger, which was a plus.) The girl behind the counter doesn't have much of a personality, which really stinks. I ask her questions, and she seems either bored or annoyed. I'm still giving this place five stars because um hello BBQ minutes away from my school! read more

Jimmy's came all the way up to Jersey City for an underwhelming BBQ festival but they made it all worthwhile. The ribs were truly on par with the best anywhere. The meat came right off the bone without being sloppy. Just the right amount of char and plenty of flavor. Though they don't have a native hot BBQ sauce, they had a bottle of all natural habanero on hand so they kept me covered. The baked beans had a tiny kick and plenty of flavor. The beans were snappy instead of mushy. I was amazed to hear from Jimmy himself that there are no southern or Midwestern roots to this place, because it can hold its own. I know I've got myself a new stopover in the KOP area! read more

Jimmy's BBQ serves delicious, real, slow-cooked barbecue (pork, beef and chicken). We found the service to be very friendly and the prices reasonable. The dining room itself is nothing fancy, but it is clean and there is plenty of seating. There is even a little sink in the dining area for washing up afterward. read more

It's OK. BBQ is tough to find in this area outside of Mission in KOP (which is way better than this). The inside of the restaurant is boiling hot on a summer day. You can't sit inside it. The food was OK. Got a side of bacon and a pulled pork sandwich. The bacon was burnt (not in a good way) and the pork tasted like it was roasted and not smoked. Stopped by here for lunch with a coworker the other day. I wasn't sure what to expect with the mix reviews on here. You smells like smoke as soon as you open the door to this place. And you will also smell it in your hair and on your clothes for the rest of the day. I had the Spicy Pulled Chicken sandwich that came with a side of coleslaw. This was surprisingly good! I've never had official pulled chicken besides the times I made it myself. On their website, it mentioned "Pass Perks" so if you have a monthly or weekly trailpass or Transpass, you could get a free side. I showed them mine and asked for the potato salad. I was told I could get it but when the food was brought to us, it was not there. I didn't bother asking for it since it was getting crowded and I didn't want to get up. This place is not bad for a quick bite but if you want to eat in, I would not recommend coming exactly at lunch time. They do have outdoors seating but it was too cold that day. read more

The good: Tenderness on ribs was perfect. Not quite falling off bone, which is a good thing. Easy bit with no pulling. The bad: Absolutely no seasoning on the ribs. I'm not talking about loading them with a rub. I mean salt. Completely flavorless. No smoke. Needed glasses to find what may have been a smoke ring. They taste like they were oven roasted or possibly cooked over charcoal with no wood. Corn bread was stale. Won't be returning. read more

My husband and I ordered takeout last night and it was an overall great experience and meal. Jimmy's seems to have adjusted packaging (vs other places) to keep things warm/separate so my pork was still warm and my coleslaw hadn't gotten soggy. I discovered Jimmy's thanks to a Philadelphia Magazine article four or five years ago and have been going there pretty regularly (2 or 3 times a year) since then. I've NEVER been disappointed and have come to the conclusion that it is the best BBQ anywhere in Suburban Philadelphia. Never had a bad meal there and everything is simply incredible. Ate here while at school, service was good girl was friendly food came out at an ok time i guess wasnt super busy and getting together mac and cheese, cornbread, and pulled meat ud think would be out almost instantly, but not so much, im leaving the review because the food was just ehh, meat didnt hardly have any flavor, super dry, the cornbread was dry aswell, as soon as you touched it it crumbled into tiny pieces, the mac and cheese was pretty good you could tell it was homemade, gave it a 3 because the serivce was ok, food was not something i would write home about, and the portions to amount was ok aswell would i recommend to a friend, i would say if you want to try it to try sure go ahead, id let them be the judge i wouldnt say no don't go because i didnt like it it wasnt horrible read more

The word is "meh". My wife and I had lunch here today upon recommendation from a friend of mine. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich which came with coleslaw and we each ordered a side. I had smoked beans, my wife ordered potato salad. My wife devoured the potato salad, she said it was the best thing she had there. My baked beans were very tasty. Easily the best thing I ate at Jimmy's. Now, about those sandwiches... My wife and I both agreed that the pork was overly dry. This is kind of a sin in pulled pork barbecue. The fat content alone should help keep it moist, but this pork was hammered. In addition to being dry, the pork is then topped with a dash of dry spices. This almost says "look, we know this pork is dry and there's a chance it's underseasoned too". Mercifully there were three different types of sauce on each table. (Note, we did go in for a late lunch which could explain the dry pork. I tried again a week or two later during lunch rush and had the same experience. Bummer.) All three sauces seem to come from a marriage of Carolina, Texas and KC styles. Hot BBQ is as advertised, really spicy. It pairs well with their creamy/vinegary coleslaw. Their Carolina BBQ has a heavy concentration of apple cider vinegar, but is too thick to really say it's Carolina sauce. We'll go with Carolina inspired. The most interesting is their sweet and bold. Unfortunately, none of the sauces could revive the over dry pork. The bun the pulled pork came on was a complete afterthought. They would have done just as well to throw two slices of Wonderbread in the basket. that would've been way better than the uninspired Costco roll that was in the basket. In closing, I really need to talk with my friend about his recommendation. There are 1 million of things that can go wrong in the food business. I see glimpses of where Jimmy's BBQ could be really great. Maybe they have great catering and the restaurant is a lost leader. Maybe there's not enough demand in the area for BBQ and what I ate was some product that had just sat around a bit too long. Or maybe, to quote BB King "The thrill is gone" for this restaurant owner and he's simply mailing it in. I'm not sure. Either way, my search for great barbecue in the suburbs continues. read more
