My usual donut shoppe was closed for the holidays so I decided to venture out and try some highly rated places on Yelp. I went to Jimmy's donuts on a cold Sunday morning to give them a shot. Located in Rio Linda, Jimmy's Donuts looks like a place from yesteryear. It has an old looking facade and not a whole lot of modern touches anywhere. I'm not sure how long Jimmy's has been in operation, but from the looks of it, it's been a long time. Jimmy's has all the classic donuts that you could be looking for. There are the rounds, the bars, the old fashioned, buttermilk, etc. You can also get larger treats like bear claws and fritters. I went ahead and got a little more than a dozen so that I could get a good taste of how these donuts were. In all, I'd say the donuts were extremely solid. I was a little wary of the maple donuts at first because the maple they put on the top looked a little paler than I'm used to seeing, but it was still good. In fact, the chocolate and maple toppings had a nice light touch to them. You can't go wrong with these donuts as they are classic and are made just the way they should be. One surprise from Jimmy's had to be the custard filling that they used. They actually had some bars filled with custard, which I thought was unique. I gave one a try and genuinely thought it was a great idea that other places should do as well. I love custard so the more the better. There were also bear claws filled with apple. Again, I hadn't seen this sort of thing done at most places so I'd have to give Jimmy's credit for having a few unique offerings. If you're thirsty, there are a number of drink options that you can select from out of the cold cases to the right of the store. Jimmy's is a simple operation without much frill. That's totally ok as they aren't trying to be more than what they are - a solid donut shop. read more

I cannot believe the quality of this ham Swiss and egg croissant. Hardly anything inside, see the picture. I remember really enjoying these at this location not long ago. Service was friendly and the shop was clean. The price of sunny d at $4 seems completely unreasonable though. Overall prices are decent, but I am very disappointed with the food today. I come here almost every Saturday morning. These are hands down the best apple fritters I've ever had. All other donuts are also exceptional but the freshness of everything is unreal. I don't know how they do it, but their freshly made scrambled eggs are always fluffy despite being cooked in the microwave. Their breakfast croissants are amazing! I can't leave this store without getting one (or more.) And I love their all buttermilk bars, cream filled maple bars and donut holes. We always stop by when we are in Rio Linda and craving donuts. The people seem nice and they always have some in stock. The donuts are good, but nothing fancy. No cronuts here. It's in the same place as Amys Cafe Chinese food. We bought some bars and a dozen donut holes came out to $3.70. They do only accept cash and I don't really carry any most of the time. Even food trucks accept visa through their tablets. We will be back, but of course only when we have some change on us. We like supporting local business. read more

The only reason why I do not recommend this business is because every time you go in there to use your ATM or credit card they're charging you $.50. Even if your one person that's on a budget doesn't mean you should give out more money. I do not see times getting any easier for anyone. That's why I do not go here any more. The people that work there or owner seem pretty nice. But nice does not put money back in our pockets. Everybody wants a free hand out these days. But look at yourself and think when did you get a free hand out. Only thing I'm saying is that businesses need to quit pickling diamine customers. read more

We've been enjoying Jimmy's Donuts for many years! My husband loves the twisted maple bars and the fact that the quality is consistently excellent. I'm a fan of the chocolate cake donuts. We always purchase a dozen for my horseshoer on the days he trims the horses hooves. He lives in Elk Grove and says he can't find any donuts as delicious as Jimmy's! Get there early! I feel very welcomed when I order from Jimmy's all staff are super kind. My mother and I were a regular before Covid hit we would take the kids to school and catch up inside while we drank our coffee or ate a donut. The food the coffees are all fabulous. Donuts are great. I picked up the premium dozen. Though randomly selected, it was a bit apple filling heavy... Bear claws and fritters. Each donut was soft on the inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, and all delicious. Service was nice. I wish they took my card. Hands down the best donut shop a little town can ask for. There is always a huge assortment of donuts and fresh all the time. I like this place. They always have a great selection for my family's saturday morning donut run, and a great selection of drinks to go with. If you want something more substantial then sugar, try their croissants with ham and cheese in them. Yum! The big negative is that they only take cash. And it's not like there is a big assortment of banks here in Rio Linda. If you dont have cash, better go back and get it. I keep reminding them they need to get a credit card machine! ! One time before school i went in there with 5 dollars and asked her how much i can get and she let me order and told me when to stop and i left with 3 donuts and a bag of donut holes.
