Bang average, with prices that suggest they're serving gold leaf. TOMO Tea House is one of those places where the presentation is doing considerably more heavy lifting than the food. The chilli wonton soup was genuinely good, probably the standout for me. I'd happily go back for that. The cinnamon rolls were alright. I tried the Biscoff Crunch, Dubai Pistachio with Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, and Banana Pudding flavours. They looked the part and were decent enough, but nothing that had me thinking, "Bloody hell, I need another one of these." The waffles, unfortunately, were a different story. They weren't cooked properly through the middle, chewy and gooey rather than crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The Biscoff flavour was also barely noticeable. The drinks are very much geared towards the social-media crowd: lots of milk, lots of toppings, lots of visual appeal. If you enjoy taking a photo of your drink before taking a sip, you'll probably have a field day. And then there's the price. For what you're actually getting, it feels rather steep. The food is, at best, mediocre in several areas, yet the prices seem to suggest these ingredients were mined personally by King Charles. Ironically, I actually would have gone back for the chilli wontons, banana pudding and Biscoff pudding. But the experience around their influencer/collaboration side left a rather sour taste. If you're a collaborator or influencer, BE WARNED! No real communication or courtesy message. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but if you're going to deal with people, a simple response goes a long way. But then again, they perhaps cherry-pick whom to interact with based on their social media activity. And finally, watching someone at the counter struggle with some basic maths while taking an order was certainly an experience. I'm all for supporting people, but perhaps the calculator deserves a little more screen time than the Instagram account. Overall: some genuinely good items buried underneath a lot of hype, presentation and rather ambitious pricing. I'd happily return for a couple of the things I enjoyed, but I wouldn't be rushing back for the overall experience. So I recently visited a spot in Natomas that specializes in mochi donuts and decided I wanted to pick up a few to give them a try. The place is called Tomo Tea House on N Freeway Blvd in Natomas. Their parking situation is pretty good as they have a huge lot that they share with many other popular businesses. It's the cutest little shop and they have the cutest interior with a few tables inside for customers. They have a kiosk one can order from but I ordered at the regular cashier. They have a pretty good display case which features many of their mochi donuts available that day. This particular visit was kind of unique in that I went there towards the end of business day,so I was able to pick up six donuts for only $1 each,so I ended up getting a lot more donuts than usual. I can 100% say that after eating all six donuts they do make a quality mochi donut and they really nailed the proper texture and sweetness level. Let's rank the donuts I picked up that day. 1. Chocolate With Fruity Pebbles-5/5-I really enjoyed the over the top sweetness of the toppings with the subdued sweetness of the donut. 2. Cookies N Cream-4/5-Im a pretty big fan of Cookies n Cream so this flavor combo really worked. 3. Churro-3.75/5-i think they pulled off the churro flavor pretty well and I really enjoyed this donut. 4. Funnel Cake-2.5/5- I'm not the biggest fan of Funnel Cake,so I'm probably the wrong audience but yeah just didn't enjoy it too much. 5. Ube-1.5/5- like the funnel cake,not a massive fan of Ube flavor so this flavor profile didn't work for me-sadly I had two of these. We wanted something to drink and snack on, and looked for something close by. We saw they had the ramen and other snacks so we decided to try them out. We especially excited to try the instant ramen maker. We walked in and ordered in the kiosk. The menu had different teas, mochi donuts, dumplings, corndogs, and other snacks. However, after ordering we noticed the ramen wasn't on there. We asked the staff and they said the ramen maker wasn't working so that was disappointing. They were also out of something I ordered and they were able to refund me. The drinks and food took a bit to come out. The wonton and dumplings were ok, but the soup it came in was pretty good. The taro drink and mochi dog we got were good. Inside was very picturesque with a good amount of seating. The ramen wall was impressive and had a good selection. The partner gets a craving for Boba Tea once a week. We wanted to find a new place to try and came across this place. They sell Boba, Donuts, and DIY Ramen. The interior has plenty of seating, a self help kiosk with photos of the drinks and it's very cute inside; even saw a couple on their first date. For my drink my partner and I both went with the banana strawberry matcha bliss, it was so tasty that we came back a few days later for another one. The staff was very friendly and periodically they even have donuts for you to sample in the front. I do hope they start to offer more traditional iced teas that are less sweet; please note you can tell them how sweet you want it and I would suggest 40%, but it's still a fun place to pop in from time to time. read more

So I'll start off by saying that I apologize that the picture doesn't do it justice! I got halfway through eating it and realized I should take a picture. But it also helps to explain my 3 star review so here we go- The first 3 bites were out of this world! Strawberries were well cut up, and every bite was a perfect blend of chocolate, pistachio, and strawberry. I thought, oh yeah! This is gonna be great. But as you can hopefully see in the image, once I got past those couple bites it ended up being a lot of clumps of the chocolate and pistachio, which in my personal opinion are just way too rich together. This may just be a preference, and I realize likely makes the cup less full, but I actually prefer there to be more strawberries and not be overwhelmed by everything else. A few items I wanted such as the spicy crab and shrimp rice balls were unavailable, so I opted for the egg rolls instead. My sister ordered the dumplings and noodles in chili oil, and from the mochi donut selection she chose peppermint, cookies & cream, and gingerbread. FOOD Egg Rolls - 3/5 The portion serving size was good, but they lacked flavor and could have used a sweet chili sauce on the side, but they were out of it. Dumplings in Chili Oil - 3/5 The chili oil base had a flavor reminiscent of seafood boil, which wasn't quite what we expected. Noodles in Chili Oil - 2/5 Similar flavor profile to the dumplings, but overall less enjoyable. Mochi Donuts I'm personally not a fan of mochi donuts, but my sister rated them: peppermint 2/5, cookies & cream 3/5, and gingerbread 3/5. I got the mango sago, which was really refreshing and as mango sago is one of my favorite go to drinks this one was really good however, some of the mango pieces were not ripe enough and made it a little bit hard to chew, but it was still fresh so no complaints, and my friend ordered the matcha strawberry drink, which he enjoyed a lot. My friend was especially excited when he saw that they offered hot food, since he was in the mood for something warm. Unfortunately, we were told that they had either run out of hot food or were no longer serving it at that time, which was a bit of a letdown. That said, we ended up ordering some donuts instead, and they kindly threw in an extra one for free to make up for the inconvenience, which was a really nice gesture. The ambiance inside is super cute and festive -- they had Christmas decorations up, and there's even a wall set up for photo ops, which adds to the overall vibe. Despite the hot food not being available, we still had a good experience thanks to the drinks, atmosphere, and thoughtful customer service. Overall, a pleasant spot I'd come back to, especially for drinks and the cozy atmosphere. I was so excited to have Vietnamese coffee in Natomas. Quality coffee! So sad that the last few times I came I ordered a phin crème brûlée and was disappointed that it wasn't torched . Without the torched sugar it's not even crème brûlée it's just egg coffee lol . For the coffee heads it changes the dynamic of the flavors. And when you want something you will go out of your way to get it in order to start your day off right. I asked the worker to add the sugar topping but she just put the sugar on top and gave it back to me. So sad. The baristas on shift were so well versed about the menu items, so bubbly, and kind. She recommended me the Pink Ca Phe, which is a Hazelnut Vietnamese Coffee with a Himalayan Pink Salt Foam. It was so delicious!! The coffee is strong and the hazelnut flavor was not too overpowering. And the salt foam was the perfect kick that makes it stand out from other coffee drinks I've had. All of the drinks we had were sweeter than we liked, I recommend lowering the sweetness level when ordering. Our drinks came out quickly, within 5 minutes of us ordering. We enjoyed them so much, we ended up coming back a few hours later for seconds. We were surprised at how busy the store was close to closing. However, all of the baristas were still so patient and made drinks efficiently. When we ordered the drinks the second time with 50% sweetness they were perfect! This is a great place to grab a sweet treat and hangout. And one of the only stores I know of that offer mochi donuts (there's a variety of flavors in a clear case next to the register). We ordered a few drinks (Thai Tea, Matcha, Iced Pistachio Latte), Mochi Donuts (my daughter loved the Double Glazed) and the Dubai Chocolate Strawberries. Everything was delish!!!! I was next door and decided to get dessert here. I ordered at the kiosk and went with mango sago. It came with sago, mango pudding, mango jelly, and mangoes. The dessert was nice and refreshing. The only thing I didn't like was the lid. There was no opening for a straw or spoon. I had to take it off carefully to avoid spillage. read more
