I'm normally a cornmeal crusted catfish w/ tarter sauce kinda guy. This is not it. These are 2 flavorful, lightly battered and fried fillets. They're served over perfect cheesy grits and topped with an absolutely delicious sauce/gravy with some crawfish and things! Amazing! Best thing I've had on the lake!!!! Hands down! This dish is served with 2 sides. The slaw was standard good. The corn has no business being on any menu. Flavorless canned whatever. Our server/bartender Landon was fantastic! We were on the water. Nothing better! I told Landon to tell them to put Catfish Julie at the top of the menu, double the price, and serve with a citrus salad with arugula. Throw a couple lemon wedges on there!!! I haven't ate here in almost a year. We decided to eat here since we were in town. Everything started good. The waitress was very nice and had our drinks and appetizers to us really quick, but after that everything went down hill. The kitchen needs help who are seasoned at working in a kitchen. The children in the kitchen were fighting and arguing about the orders and not working on getting the orders out. I recommend hiring a kitchen manager who understand how to cook and manage kitchen staff and use the kids in a different role. We were given two things of free appetizers because I am sure other guest walked out. We waited well over an hour just to get our food. My Norris burger came cold, dry, and way over cooked. Other people in our party had to wait to get their food and the last person didn't get their food until the rest had already eaten. I am really disappointed in Jimmy's I use to always say come to this location because of the food, but after today I don't know if we will make another trip here. We will turn the boat in the opposite direction and go to another place. read more

Jimmy's place is a cool spot down on Norris Lake. It's basically exactly what you would expect. Nice local feel with some tourists and nothing super nice just an old dock with a restaurant and alcohol. It was hit or mess with the food but nothing was terrible and several of the items were actually quite impressive. We got the barbecue nachos and they were quite delicious I would recommend. Would go back since there aren't many options. Our server is a student going to school to be a therapist and she did a great job. While we were sitting there some guys jumped into their boat and took off without paying and clearly intoxicated so I give her props for putting up with that kind of crap. read more

Tucked away in amongst the hills and ridges of Tennessee is Norris Lake and a stop for boaters enjoying a day on the water is Jimmie's Place. A casual stop for gas and grub, but available for land lovers like us. Jimmies's offers burgers and an assortment of sandwiches and meals, though we only stopped for burgers. Juicy, cooked to perfection with onion, pickle, and very good bacon, but also a tasty bun, just the right size for our burgers. The young one had his typical grilled chicken that he wolfed down so fast it was hard to describe, but he said it was "really good." This isn't fine dining, open air bar and tables, but good solid food. Typical sides and apps to go along with your sandwich. We liked it enough to say we will be back! read more

Dropped them a couple of stars due to not initially getting what one of our party ordered and having to flag down waitresses that were not attentive for things like drink refills or the check at the end. I AM SO SAD TO WRITE THIS but it has to be said. I am from the area and live in Charlotte now. August 21st I was in town for the week and met an old friend for dinner here. I am young as well as my friend but we both have degrees and careers and both of us expect part of the crummy service was because of our age. I was crazy excited for this restaurant, it's a really great idea and could be amazing. I have never been more disappointed. We came in and sat ourselves on the patio/dock area right on the water. There were plastic picnic tables and two large groups of people. We sat away from the first group. They were being loud, were drunk, and smoking. They moved right next to us and then were served their dinner. Their food looked great although we were annoyed by their cigarette smoke. Our waitress came and was completely rude - everything we asked for she told us they were out of - in such a horribly rude way. When you're in service then you should be sorry that you actually can serve the people who pay you!!! So I needed up ordering a sirloin medium rare with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. She finally comes out with the food and only has the steak and potatoes and tells me they are out of mac n cheese and they only have fries and coleslaw. (SERIOUSLY OUT OF TEN SIDES?!?) so not to double down on potatoes I get coleslaw, that I'm 80% sure is from food city. I cut into my steak and it's greenish brown and cold like they put it in the fridge after they put it on the stove for two mins. I told her it was under cooked and she informed me it was fine and I asked her to cook it more. She was annoyed and went back. THEN WE NEVER SAW HER AGAIN. I had to smother the steak in A1 in order to choke it down. (Sign of a poorly cooked steak) so we get our check and the price is even higher than I was expecting. The tax was weirdly high and the waitress who gave us our tickets could not seem to split our bill correctly. I do not mind spending 20+ on a nice dinner. But I was sitting on a plastic picnic table with cigarette smoke being blown into my face with a rude waitress and terrible steak. I didn't want to leave a tip but my conscience got the best of me. We love this place! We recently purchased property nearby and our boat is docked at the marina there. I can't say enough about how friendly the staff is, both in the marina and the restaurant! Everyone is very helpful and made us feel comfortable and welcome. We have eaten there frequently, and everything we've tried on the menu has been very good. Best of all, the beer is ice cold! The prices are pretty reasonable. We're happy to have found this place and can't wait to come back! read more

I went to Jimmys last night with some neighbors who recently purchased a houseboat across from me. It was, as always, a great experience. Their food is great and the atmosphere is very good and family friendly. I live at Beach Island and gladly take the 20 minute boat ride down the lake to eat here versus staying at our marina and eating. Everyone that I know that has tried the catfish says its fantastic and the Chicken is great. The macaroni and cheese is one of my kids favorites and their green beans are loaded with ham and fatback. I can honestly say the only item that I don't really care for is the sweet cold slaw but that's a personal preference that I'm partial to creamy. The service is always top notch and would recommend anyone on the lake to give it a try. read more

I really, really want to like this place. It's a perfect location for boaters and lake-lovers. The atmosphere is decent (less rowdy the bubba's), but still has a hooter's bar feel. Food is marginal at best (shrimp salad = ice berg lettuce and bacon bits with thawed shrimp and a dash of bagged shredded cheese. There was exactly one cherry tomato). There are zero food options for healthy eaters. We will try it again, but with much lower expectations and maybe just stick with a drink or two. read more

* sorry double post, didnt know 1st post went through***** We went to Jimmy's on a Wednesday 2AUG for lunch and had great food and service but today 5AUG after a day on the water we arrived at Jimmy's around 5:45-6PM party of 8. Quickly seated we received our first round of drinks and ordered shortly after bar food (chix wings/burger). Within 20-30min is started to get really crowded. After our first round of drinks we ordered another round only to wait about 20min to receive them. We questioned our timing for our food would be. Our waitress explained they were really busy and orders are backed up. After 1.hrs we saw people being seated/ordered after us started to receive their meals. Another party of 8 was seated after us and started to receive their meals. I went and questioned the hostess on WTF was going on and her reply was your food should be any minute. After 2 hours with no explanation of time when our food was going to be served we left. We overheard cooks and waitresses looking for "Jimmy" as nothing was being organized and all the staff didnt know what to do. Our waitress appeared to be working hard but operational management was lacking and showed BIG TIME. It seemed no kitchen management was there not floor manager to help control the environment. We ended up with 4 hungry kids and a 45min boat ride back to the house and VERY disappointed. If Jimmy wants to host a band and bring business in they need to get their crap in order and prepare as they lost out on our $250+ tab. It was obvious they need to hire someone with restaurant knowledge to run the operation portion of the business to maintain their clients and grow. read more

We had burgers at Jimmy's place and they were absolutely gross and frozen patties with zero taste. The fries weren't even good. We also fish around there and have had a different person sent to collect the launch fee (most other docks u walk inside n pay it) and tell us about a new rule every single time we've been there the past week. We evening/night fished there Tuesday and launched the boat there. Then we came back Thursday and launched the boat and as the guy the manager sent out to collect the launch fee and tell us the rule of the day we were told they now lock the gate at 10 pm. So much for night fishing. Like they couldn't have told us before we launched the boat...???? Luckily Lone Mountain is right around the corner and they're much nicer there anyways!!!! Great place to launch your boat for a day of fishing. Good concerts on weekends. If you are going fishing go through the week a lot less busy with plenty of parking space. Haven't tried the food so I can't comment on that. read more

Having been at Jimmy's Place earlier this summer for lunch and drinks, I was looking forward to returning for a Pre-wedding party. On our prior visit, the food was good, drinks were strong, and serving staff was friendly. This time, what a disappointment. First, let me say the food was decent, though nothing better than bar food. Drinks seemed weak. We arrived about 730 or 8pm, thinking we were going to be able to dine, drink and visit with the 40-some other guests who had traveled from out of state for the wedding. On arrival, we were told the kitchen was closing at 9pm, so we had to hurry and order. We still had family enroute to the marina, again, traveling to this destination wedding from Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, and they were all expecting to be able to eat, drink and visit as well. That didn't happen. We were basically rushed out the door, even though many of us hadn't eaten. We had planned to stick around to listen to live music that had been arranged by the bridal couple. Not only did we not get to listen to any live music, we were treated like a nuisance by the manager, who seemed more concerned about shutting the bar down at 9pm on a Friday night, than making money and keeping his customers happy. Our waitstaff was fantastic and patient! They seemed sympathetic to our plight, and happy to be waiting on us. They would have easily made their best night's tips for the month, if not the entire season, had they been allowed to keep serving us. Another reason I will never return to Jimmy's place: My sister and her new husband have been frequent customers there, and have made friends with many of the staff. Because of that, they CHOSE Jimmy's Place for their pre-wedding celebration. Not only did they get treated poorly that night, but the next morning, when we suddenly discovered that, due to poor weather, our outdoor wedding location was no longer available for the wedding, we again contacted Jimmy's to see if they could accommodate us for the wedding and reception, and were turned down! On a Saturday afternoon in October, when most of the rentals were not occupied and there wasn't likely to be many customers (very few boats on the lake due to the weather), the same manager again stated that their parking lot could not accommodate our wedding group because he was expecting a large crowd that day! WTH?? Seriously hope he lost money for the owner that day, because he deserves to lose his job over the way he treated paying customers. read more
