Take out | Dinner | $10-20 I'm going to be as objective as possible with this review... Ordered the calabash shrimp entree with sides of slaw and steak fries. Also ordered 3 extra hushpuppies at .25 a piece. Total for the order was almost $16. I try to support local businesses as much as possible. They used to be in a different locale and closed for a while due, I believe, to the owner passing. I noticed the message under the current restaurant sign is "voted best in Georgia." I walked into the restaurant, and there was no one there. I loved one told me that if you go into a restaurant and it's a ghost town, turn right back around. Pros: hushpuppies Cons: 1) Steak fries. Room temperature and tough texture indicating that they were not freshly prepared. Honestly tasted like they were made when the store opened (or previous day). 2) Shrimp. We occasionally get SeaPak popcorn shrimp from the grocery frozen section, and this tasted the EXACT same. 3) Customer Srvc. I paid for my order and checked my food to find that I was 1 hushpuppy short (I paid for 3 extra). I went inside to inform the cashier, who was now sweeping the floors. Her response, "it's probably buried in there." #1 there wasn't enough of the SeaPak-like shrimp to bury it, and #2 I have advanced degrees and am proficient in counting. She went to the back, and without washing her "sweeping hands" produced me another hushpuppy with no wait. I hate to write this, because I've been looking forward to trying this place, as I love catfish. But, the woman taking orders was so rude that we walked out before even finishing our order. I'm not giving them my money if this how they treat people. I realize they are understaffed, but this woman was Over the top rude and we didn't do anything to deserve it. Excellent catfish. My wife and I went to the restaurant and ate inside. Meals are served in a take out box. There are around 6 picnic tables. But you don't come here for the atmosphere. I love cats on the bone as nature intended. These were medium size and very fresh. A nice light and crispy cornmeal coating was just right with the tender flesh. My wife got the filets. I recently moved to this area and love catfish, a friend told me about this place so I had to try it. My greedy self ordered fish & chicken combo so I could try it all. Everything is hot and fresh when ordered (the wait seemed crazy), for the most part it was all good! 4 stars because the high price and they advertise HUGE filets, they are not huge so my expectations were disappointed. I'll be back when I want fried fish or if someone comes into town (my family loves chicken & fish). I came in for the first time thinking it just relocated to a new location near work let me try it. Turn and go somewhere else. When I placed my order and gave the lady a $20 bill she put my change on the counter...not my hand the same way I gave it to her. I waited until she picked it up and put it in my hand. We drove past this place on a day we were exploring. We saw the place next to a gas station with a line out the door and busted a u-turn. I had to know what goodness was going on in there. We had already eaten, but vowed to come back. And we did. It's TINY inside - a few tables to be seated and standing room only for to go orders. Do not make this a date night. It's not that kind of place. We went two times. We learned our lesson about waiting on site - cramped, hot and took longer than it should. We ordered by phone the second time and only waited about 10 minutes after arriving. This place takes cash only, so be prepared. We ordered fried chicken and and fish and the fish was clearly the star. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. They also have a house made lemonade that's to die for. Wow! What a disguised dump. The lady behind the counter acted like I was bothering her to build my order. Choosing to be positive, I tried to be super cordial since she was sounding kind of like she had a nasty attitude. But, I was there to give them a try again which was a HUGE mistake. I ended up throwing away two of the 4 pieces of fried catfish ordered. The breading was tasty, but it was like 80% breading and possibly some fish in there somewhere. Now, the catfish was too tough to chew. Downright rubbery. I ordered it to go as a walk-in, so it's not that it sat. It's not that I did something to my order to make it bad. It was just a waste of money. Since that time, the review I submitted lead to me being attacked in their response, so here's another review where my honesty will probably provoke another verbal assault. Went by Jimpa's recently, on a Friday night. Even though I know the orders can take a while because they cook the fish and hush puppies to order, I decided to wait until i arrived at the restaurant to place my order. The young lady at the register was friendly and was prompt in taking my order. I waited as I knew I would but I was okay with a reasonable wait because I was looking forward to some good hot catfish filets and hush puppies. The wait did take a little longer than I hoped but again I was looking forward to what I remembered from Jimpa's, good food. Finally got my order. Went home, opened the box, fixed my plate and went for it. Needless to say I was very disappointed. The fish was fried too hard and it was thinner than I remembered. Also, the white beans seemed a little off as well. The hush puppies....now they were good. After eating a piece of fish and going back for another, I began to question whether my catfish filets were actually catfish. Most of the filet was dry and brittle. The fish itself lacked flavor. I tasted the fish batter, but couldn't taste the fish. Then the unthinkable hit me, that the fish that was eating may not actually be catfish. It could be the fish that many restaurants pass off as catfish, Swai. I can't validate it they are serving real catfish or swai, but as a native southerner, who has caught, cleaned and cooked catfish all of my life, Jimpa's catfish filets lacked the moist flakey texture of farm raised or wild caught catfish. I wish I had gone for the whole catfish, lightly fried. The best thing about catfish is that flakey, mild but fishy flavor/taste. read more

Ate there last night...placed order at 5:55PM food was brought to table at 7:04PM... literally a 1 hour 4 minute wait for mediocre food. I had whole cats...greasy, not crispy, fish were too large to fry whole. Good news is they were hot. Wife had cat filets...good but barely warm. What a great experience! Everything is made fresh from the coleslaw, to the honey mustard. Upon entering, Jim introduced himself and spoke with me plainly about his business along with other things. He truly has, "the gift of gab!" I had my daughter along with me, and he went out of his way to remember her name and make her feel welcome. Even if the food hadn't been fabulous, and his retail spot crammed full of character, I'd still be loyal to that kind of service. The frog legs caught my eye from his handmade signs on the road. First let me say this. The food here is excellent. The prices keep going up but it's delicious. I can't give this establishment a better score because they always short change me. Whether it's a hush puppy or a blackberry cobbler stuff is always missing from my ph orders. it's to the point where it can't just be a bad day for staff..it seems to be the norm..Sometime, I catch the order is wrong while I'm there. They will gladly fix it but it adds 10 mins to the already long wait. I really love the food here and have been more than 10x. I can honestly say I've only had a couple experiences where my order was intact. Please get it together. The food is too good for this poor service. My husband and I stopped by here on yesterday for takeout . We noticed multiple cars with people waiting. We had never been here before and we thought why not? I love fried catfish and this place did not disappoint! We were greeted by a lovely young lady at the front counter who helped us with our order, spoke to the chef and also suggested the best sides. My husband got the fried chicken wings with onion rings / cole slaw and said they were amazing! I got the one fried fish fillet with fried pickles and it was delicious super fresh not greasy and hot. Everything was crispy and tasted exactly as you would imagine. Definitely check this place out order ahead or go n to order . Dear owner/manager, I am a patron for many years, this is the second time I've written since you changed locations, and for the same reason. Check your cameras for about 7:15pm, Friday, December 18, 2020. That's a very angry me finally getting my food after asking specifically once at the front counter if there was a problem with my order. I'm sure you can backup the tape to see when I came in an personally placed the order. I guess I was in your store close to an hour. During that time I was never told it was going to be late, or that it was late, never an acknowledgement of poor service, never an apology. Only a surly attitude from a young lady with oriental features. As a matter of fact, as I angrily tossed my wadded ticket on the counter as I left which feel on the floor, she demanded that I pick it up! I simply said she could pick it up. This is a go back to time after time. Their friendly and fast for as busy as they are. Their catfish and fried chicken are about the best I've ever had. Tiny little place and totally packed when they are open. If you try it you will see why. I'd love their recipes, for every thing. I'm not a big hush puppy eater but theirs are very good. The beans are seasoned to perfection and the cole slaw too. The prices extremely reasonable for what you get and the quality of the food. Their combinations are the best deal but it is a LOT of food! I almost hate to spread the word on this one because I may have to wait longer. I was told Jim was somewhere else and closed so people I know were elated to stop in there and find out it was him. REALLY good fried chicken and catfish! They forgot our tea and french fries at first but we were able to go back and get them once we realized they had forgotten. Tea was also perfectly made, but the sides (okra, cole slaw, fries, rolls, hush puppies) were a little short on expectations.
