I had new brakes, shocks and struts installed at a major chain automobile shop in early May. When I drove away, my car was making a loud, clanging noise as I drove over every little bump and crack in the road. I brought it back to the major chain store to see what was out of place. They found nothing wrong (with their workmanship) and told me that it was probably my tail pipe because it was moving side to side. They suggested I take it to Jim's 66 Muffler for inspection. I brought my car in the next day and explained to Jim what might be the problem. He put my car up on the lift and then he and a fellow employee proceeded to inspect my whole exhaust system. They even bounced my car a little to see if they could hear the noise I was talking about. They both could hear it but it was not my muffler or the tail pipe. Jim said it was perfectly installed and holding up nicely and that nothing was amiss. I ended up taking my car to a Toyota dealership for an inspection because the noise was so unusual and I was sure something was wrong. They discovered that the initial brake installation had not been done correctly and that they had not tightened my front brake calipers. Major safety violation! I want to thank Jim at Jim's 66 Muffler for being so kind and carefully inspecting the underside of my car and for confirming that nothing was wrong with the exhaust system. I'm just blown away by the excellent service. On a long trip from Houston to Moab, my car hit something on the freeway that battered my exhaust pipes. The strike caused the pipes to separate from each other and break free off the exhaust pipe hangers. I decided make a detour for repairs and the 1# Yelp review in the area was Jim's 66. So I paid them an immediate visit. They saw me right away and inspected the damage. Then gave me a very reasonable quote for the repairs. As soon as the paperwork was signed they started work. Almost two months ago my catalytic converters were stolen from my truck. I elected to have the truck repaired at Jim's 66 Muffler. Everything appeared fine and the work was completed the same day I took it there. Within two days my vehicle check engine light came on indicating the catalytic converters were below threshold. The truck goes back to Jim's 66 and they say there is a small exhaust leak. about three days later, when the engine light comes on, the truck goes back to Jim's. This time they say I need a new O2 sensor and I have to pay an additional $160.00 to fix it. I pay and then the same check engine code comes on. This time Jim's 66 states they will have to start to charge me to fix the truck that they had already been paid to fix but didn't. To their credit they worked on the truck one more time, but the work performed did not fix the vehicle. The check engine light remains on and now Jim's 66 is refusing to perform anymore work. Jim's 66 did not offer to refund any money despite never completing a repair that they were paid to complete. The other reviews describe Jim's 66 as being polite and professional. This was my experience at first. The issue is Jim's 66 will accept payment for their poor quality work and in the end leave you without a properly functioning vehicle. This is a shop that failed to standy by their work, charged this customer for parts not needed and then walked away profiting from their own botched job. My only advice is to stay away from Jim's 66. A muffler shop that can't successfully install a catalytic converter, or diagnose an OBD engine code for an exhaust issue has to be clueless and inept in their industry. read more

My son and I were moving him across the country from St. Louis to Orange County, CA. Some poor excuse for a human being or beings sawed off the Catalytic Converter from our moving truck in the middle of the night. We were on a schedule to get across the country. My son found Jim's online and we headed over to the shop. Everyone at Jim's was so kind and helpful. We were certainly no experts and unhooking and hooking up the car carrier we were towing. The guys working there, totally helped us out. Funny thing is, we had just had the CC stolen off the Prius we were towing, so we had an anti theft device (cable) installed on it. Maybe the meth heads who stole to CC off the truck were ticked when they saw they couldn't get the pristine CC from the Prius. Ugh. These theft rings have to be stopped!!! Bottom line is Jim's got us back on the road in a few hours. Charged us a very fair price. The woman who worked in the office was just an angel. Visited Jim at Jim's 66 to get magna-flow I stalled on 2012 F150. Initially made a call to get an estimate via phone after reading the great reviews. When I got to Jim I initially asking him what's the difference between Magna Flow and Flow-masters. He the. Asked me size of engine etc. With 100% confidence with my engine and truck he suggested I go with Flow-masters. Usually I would doubt what a person is selling but based on his great customer service and seeming to be a very honest guy who is not in it for money I said heck yea, and throw in a new tip as well. I wanted to go chrome duel but he suggested black tip since my rims were black and I'm glad he did because it looked way better than the chrome tip I had already had. He also made other suggestion to prevent rust from welding etc. while I was there I met a new gentlemen who was gonna get some work done who asked me how did I hear about Jim. I simply said Yelp and we had a 5 min convo on how great reviews were and he got recommended also by a local Jeep dealer. I would say my experience you would have to be a fool not to go to Jim's. I ended up having some issues with my muffler after having a bar removed from the bottom of my car at this location. I took it in today, it was immediately serviced, I was out with in less than 20 to 30 minutes! They fixed my car, and for the first time in a long time it actually sounds normal. It was worth the hour drive to get there. I had just moved to Santa Fe and along the 1,200 mile journey I acquired a pretty loud exhaust leak. The loss of power was also obvious. This was an older truck, so it didn't surprise me when I brought it to a local Santa Fe shop and the guy told me two catalytic converters, one in each bank, needed to be replaced. What DID surprise me was the price. $1,800! First I talked to Yolanda on the phone. She gave me the price on two catalytic converters. These things aren't cheap, $359 each, but based upon the Santa Fe estimate, pretty much anything was better. She also suggested that Jim is often able to save the catalytic converters, and a simple weld job may fix some of the issues. I had this once in Austin to pass vehicle inspection. I figured I would give it a go. After Chris and Jim inspected Bessie (my truck), it turned out that Jim recommended that ALL FOUR of my catalytic converters be replaced. Yikes! He worked out a deal for me, though, and said he would replace all four for a better price. We chatted about whether it was worth it for an aging truck, and he said it was if I wanted to keep the truck. I gave him the green light. I had a nice lunch nearby at the locally owned Loyola's, walked around a bit, and 3.5 hours later, my truck was ready. Talk about quiet! And it's got all the power back that a V8 should have! So, for cheaper than my original estimate, I got all 4 catalytic converters fixed, and I feel far more confident in my truck. But the best part of the day was chatting with Yolanda, Jim's wife. I'll preface this by acknowledging that I know virtually nothing about cars, but that's part of the story in the sense that Jim's people were unique among those I consulted in making me feel that they were interested in explaining the issues and options to me, rather than taking advantage of my ignorance, i.e., erecting a wall of corporate pseudo-expertise and inflated prices. I was doing the rounds of possible places around town to get the cracked muffler/exhaust pipe system on my Scion XA repaired. I came by Jim's solely on the basis of the previous reviews. (Thanks to you all - Tony, Linda, Scott, A.W.!). This was after the following experiences: -The guys at Jiffy Lube diagnosed the problem for free, and gave me some suggestions about whom to see :-) -The Midas people wanted upwards of $300 for parts and labor, and over a week to get the parts. They emphasized that the work is sooo complicated that the dealerships subcontract it to them. (Subtext: It's not really worth my time to look anywhere else.) -The Toyota dealer likewise wanted upwards of $300 for parts and labor, and several days to get the parts. They also refused to give me any information about the muffler, much less alternatives to the brand-name option, claiming ignorance. -Jim's crew were the only mechanics I've ever dealt with who invited me to actually look underneath the car with them. (Clearly they're not afraid of my learning something.) Then: 1. They replaced only the half of the muffler-exhaust system that actually needed replacing. 2. They did it for under $200. 3. They did it in *an hour*, while I waited. Of course, I'll return to this review if anything turns out to be amiss. If I don't update, please assume that the repairs have held. Had them weld on a Flowmaster catalytic converter for me. Didn't take long at all but when I got home I noticed the welds looked a little rough but wasn't too worried about it. I replaced my O2 sensor today and for good measure I hooked up my shop vac to blow into the exhaust and sprayed soapy water on the pipe to check for leaks and sure enough, both welds leaked bad. I called them up and they told me to bring it in but when he got the car onto the lift and checked it out he told me there were no leaks. I showed him pictures of the bubbling welds and he said it was because I used soapy water, even though the rest of the exhaust pipe was also sprayed down and not bubbling. I found Jim's 66 Muffler shop on Yelp. I own a Ford F350 and had the worst rattle going on. I didn't know what it was but guessed that I had a broken exhaust mount. I called Jim's while driving home from work. The gentleman who answered the phone was very professional and suggested I bring my truck in first thing the next morning. I planned to drop my truck off for the day and ride my bike to work. When I arrived, Chris was working on another vehicle but came out and greeted me. He noticed the rattle right away and climbed underneath my truck with a flashlight. He said that it was only a "minor issue and would only take a minute" and put the truck on their lift. He was serious, he wrenched a couple of bolts and I was back on my way to work. These guys could have kept the truck for the day and told me it was a exhaust mount charging me a couple hundred bucks. Instead, they recognized that it was only a couple of loose bolts on the after market exhaust system and fixed it immediately and didn't even charge me! As I understand, Jim's does more than just muffler work. I am now a huge fan and will be bringing all of my vehicles for future work. Had custom exhausts done on 2 of my vehicles here so far. My Oldsmobile I got done nearly ten years ago, and then more recently, a couple months ago, I took my newer car. I think they are the best in town, for sure. Plus I love the cool Flowmaster stickers you get! Oh, and my 79 Olds had never passed emissions PRIOR to getting the custom dual exhauast ( glass packs) . what a great shop.. out of town from Az someone tried to clip my catalytic converter in Old Town at 3:00 pm..they made one cut into pipe and started a second to finish when someone scared them off.. the shops my insurance recommended were 2-3 wks out and I have only 4 days.. with no local input I found Jims muffler on the internet.. couldn't have been nicer.. I took my car into Jim's to get an aftermarket exhaust system put on my car. The gentleman (I didn't get his name ) that helped me out was friendly, professional and thorough. He walked me through the process of what needed to be done with my car quoted me a timeframe of an hour or so for the work to be done. Should not have gone to a muffler shop for a brake job. They were not really good at doing break job even though they were advertising it. They do not resurface rotors (they do NOT have the resurfacing machine), nor do they use a torque wrench to apply proper torques once tires get reinstall. The tech used a pneumatic impact tool all the way... zipping it onto the stud ...I felt the pain of those lug nuts! Asked the tech about the torque wrench step and he appeared clueless, saying that was how he does on his own car. Hope they learn how much extremely large force those small lug nuts are under and therefore absolutely critical to holding the wheel on your car i.e. the safety of car ... you and your family. Suggestion to owner: Get a torque wrench and learn how to use it properly. read more

Tony at Jim's 66 Muffler was very courteous and helpful in explaining my options to eliminate a loud rattle I was experiencing from a different shop's work. I wasn't in for any major work, just a simple connector pipe job. However, they told me that they do great work including custom dual exhaust jobs, catalytic converters, welding, and brakes. When it's time for me to have my struts replaced I will probably return to Jim's 66 Muffler for the work. My job was performed quickly while I waited in their comfortable lobby. The shop is decorated in nostalgic Route 66 images but they did a quality, modern job on my aging VW. Tony has 30 years of experience and I highly recommend his services at Jim's Route 66. read more

After getting an estimate from a national muffler company for about six hundred dollars I took the estimate to Jim'66 Muffler on the recommendation of my neighborhood mechanic. They completed the job for $150.00. Unlike the national company they did not try to sell me a new muffler and several other things they said I needed. I got to Jim's at 9:30 was out in one hour. Just long enough to have a great breakfast at Loyola's a couple of blocks down (see my review). The folks at Jim's 66 are great and they know what there doing and don't try too sell you things you don't need. My advice is go to the big name muffler place if you want but then take your estimate to Jim's. read more

These guys are lifesavers. While driving across country, I suddenly needed a new muffler and they were able to assist me as soon as I arrived at the shop, allowed me to visually inspect my car while it was on the lift (unlike other shops that forbid you from actually seeing what is wrong with YOUR car) and pointed out the pieces of the car that were still in good condition. The service was incredibly quick -- old muffler off, new muffler replaced in less than half an hour -- and the price was just right. Very satisfied! In the middle of a road trip I decided I didn't like what had been done to my exhaust by a Midas in Las Vegas, NV. I was spending the night with friends in ABQ, so I looked up muffler shops in town. My friend and Yelp both recommended Jim's, so I came in at 845AM the next day, with a long shot request of doing the entire cat-back exhaust on my Pontiac G8 GT that day so I could hit the road again that afternoon.
