Just delicious! We had a combination plate with pork, beef and, the best I've ever had, smoked sausage. Unique and super tasty BBQ sauce to pair with the meats. Service was quick and courteous. I have been to a lot of places and when you walk in , you can smell something you don't smell In other places. The Smoke that cooked the food. That being said I think I would fight someone for the Mac and Cheese and the 3 meat plate. Definitely a place more people should check out. And as a bonus , try the peach cobbler. read more

I've been passing this place for about a year on my way to visit my son in Frisco. Finally I was in the area at the right time, and decidedly grab something on the run. I wasn't sure if it was the right move, as when I pulled into the parking lot, the sign and building didn't look that special. But, I'm so glad I stopped! From the minute I entered and smelled that wonderful Smokey BBQ, I knew it was going to be good. I had the Rib Sandwich and curly fries, and i they are awesome! They were really busy, but the staff were bustin butt, and we're really polite. I'll definitely be back to try a full meal soon! read more

The best smoked ham breakfast I have ever tasted. The price is phenomenal 8.99 for 3 eggs grits/hash browns, toast/biscuits, and half a platter of smoked bone in ham. Yummy Truckers, there is plenty of parking in the side lot. read more

Good place to stop with kids in Waskom along your I-20 drive. Small-town atmosphere, good food overall, clean bathrooms. Hubs ordered the pork rib plate with baked beans and mashed potatoes. The Mac and cheese was unfortunately sold out. Ribs were average and a little on the dry side. Beans were great with pleasant pieces of I believe brisket in it. Mashed potatoes were yummy and would be a winner at any country church pot luck. BBQ sauce was not impressive, ribs were better without it. Plate also came with buttered Texas toast. I ordered the fish sandwich that came with 3 filets on a bun. Fish was fantastic. It came straight out of the fryer and not at all over cooked. I could lightly see the red spices between the batter and the fish, giving it a nice kick. My four-year old thought it was too spicy, but that just meant more for me to enjoy. Other kiddo ordered grilled cheese with corn-on-the-cob that came on a stick. Fun for a preschooler. Friendly wait-staff, and even though they were slammed I could tell everyone was happy to be working there. Overall, I recommend this place. Not impressed. Was hoping for a good country breakfast. I LOVE hash browns. nearly freaked when my meal came on styrofoam plate and the microwaveable hash brown rectangle I received. Sunday and Mother's day, and we had been on the road for a bit - and knew we better find something before it all closed. Found this gem on Yelp, and arrived about 30 min before closing. Staff was wonderful and place was clean. Ice tea was homemade and hit the spot! Baker opted for the ribs, and found them tender, fairly juicy with a nice smoke. Wish they had pulled the membrane from the back of the ribs. BBQ sauce okay - pretty run of the mill for the area and enjoyable (but try them with the honey mustard salad dressing and OMG). Biker opted for the pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese and coleslaw. Again, the smoke was just right, meat was tender but a little dry. Mac & Cheese was dynamite, and the slaw was good with tang and not to much mayo or sweet. The Verdict: Great place to stop for a bite on the road - right off of Rt 20 and you can't go wrong. This is our favorite spot for barbecue in the Shreveport-Bossier area (sure you have to drive to Waskom, but it's worth it). For me, I used to hate or merely tolerate beans (I'm from the north), but the server said there's was good, and that was an understatement. The beans are the best I've ever had, and I week get a double side of beans in a heartbeat. The catfish is wonderful (Disclaimer: if you're from the north, or more specifically northeast, and like your catfish softer and flaky, you may not like it). The barbecue is in my to 6 in the nation, but the reason this place gets 5 stars is because of the sides. They really wow and amaze me. I'd eat here more often, but I feel the price is a little high, especially while trying to feed a family. Either way, I've come to accept the sentence and return on occasion. read more

I give this place ONE star because I cannot give them ZERO! It was a Sunday night and my boyfriend and I were driving from Shreveport to Austin. We searched for BBQ places that we could stop and grab a bite to eat before our almost 6 hour drive home. We pulled into Jim's BBQ, right behind another car with a couple in it. We followed the other couple into the restaurant and were expecting a warm welcome with a hello. Small towns are supposed to be warm and welcoming....right? I'm from a small town and I can tell you that no one in my town would have EVER treated us AND the other couple the way we were treated when we walked into that place. The OPEN sign was lit up on the outside, plain as day! But, when we walked in, all of the chairs were up on the tables and every worker, owner, whatever they were, GLARED at us like we had committed a crime. No one said a word to us or the other couple. There was a couple sitting up at the bar (I think this is an old Dairy Queen or something like that and converted into a BBQ place) eating. While we were waiting for the other couple to be seated, we grabbed a menu off the bar and were looking at what we'd like to order. After realizing he wasn't being greeted, the gentleman that walked in before us asked "are y'all closed"? The lady, in a very rude voice said "yes, in 2 minutes". It was 7:28pm. Now, I know that if you are in the food service business...the days can get long and I'm sure even more-so when you are in a small town, but no small town business that I know of would ever have turned 4 paying customers (obviously new patrons) down because they were closing in 2 minutes. In my mind, you accept diners up until the time you close. After closing time, the sign goes off, the door is locked and no one else gets to come in, but those that were there prior to your closing time and those that were there WHILE THE NEON OPEN SIGN IS STILL ON...should get to come in, order and eat even after you've closed your doors. Yes, it may make you stay there a tad bit later, but you are getting paid. I guess what is appauling to me even more-so than her snappy and unapologetic tone was that she never offered to 'wrap something up to-go' for us (we would have taken it to go) or offered any other words other than the "yes, in 2 minutes". I asked if they knew of any other eating establishments around the area that might still be open and the people eating at the bar were the ones who answered me (with Catfish Village at the next exit). We read a few reviews that the BBQ was awesome and the catfish was great (that is what I was hungry for), but I guess we'll never find out. We walked out the door, right behind the other couple and continued on our way, shocked that we were sent away while the neon OPEN sign was still on. I had some time to kill while I waited for the vet next door to reopen after lunch. So I decided to try this place. All I could think about while eating is how much time I have wasted not eating here!! The prices are very reasonable. And the bar-b-que is delicious. I got a small beef sandwich plate. It came with two sides. I got potato salad which was the best I've had in a long time. I left full and satisfied. I'll definitely be back and will be bringing others with me. read more

This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, it was something to fill my hunger pains for the moment. The reason why I stopped in the first place is because I saw their sign almost as soon as I crossed the Texas border. The Texas toast was dripping in butter, the potato salad tasted like it had come out of a pre-made box, and the beans had a sour taste to them. They DON"T have beef ribs, which I find odd since they are in Texas. The ribs are what gave them 3 stars, and I barely gave them that, hardly any smoke flavor at all, a bit to sweet, but the meat was tender, just not that good. So, if you are passing by and you see this place, I would suggest driving on by and searching out a Bakers ribs. Thats where you will find REAL Texas BBQ! read more

The pork ribs tasted boiled and then appeared thrown on the smoker for appearance only. No smoke ring. Brisket had ZERO smoke flavor and not much other flavor and was TOUGH. The pulled pork was tender had a bit of BBQ/smoke flavor and showed a bit of evidence of being smoked. Extremely sweet BBQ sauce. The Beans were very tasty and had more smoke flavor than any of the 3 meats I ordered. The Macaroni and Cheese was very tasty and creamy. The catfish was lightly breaded and fairly tasty. The service was phenomenal, friendly and quick. It's just unfortunate that the BBQ tasted boiled, old and hardly smoked. read more

Went to eat early Friday evening with some friends. We had fish, chicken and a hamburger. Each one of us got had a different side of fries and onion rings. We all agreed it was great food. The only thing is the pickled tomato hunks. I didn't get them. It tasted like the chowchow I had growing up but didn't go with the fish in my opinion. The coleslaw was average at best. BUT, the corn fritter/ hushpuppy thingys were amazing! Light and airy, they were so tasty. We did wait a while for our food, but we had great conversations with our friends. Cost was fairly inexpensive. Love the old atmosphere and decor. Would go back if we are ever back in Waskom. read more

We loved watching the staff work- they handled the stress and energy of an overcrowded bbq joint well. I was particularly impressed by Alvin, the young man working the drive through. This place was such a wonderful experience. The employees were super kind and accommodating. I went here for the first time and after placing my order my wife and I realized we didn't have our bank cards. The gentleman taking our order simply asked if we lived far away. We told him where we lived and his reply amazed me. I was told to go get my wallet and upon my return I would have my food ready and waiting. Now for the food. I have nothing bad to say at all.
