The best steak house hands down in Peoria. After visiting multiple chain steak houses in Chicago & Peoria, this is up there: food, service, drinks, atmosphere all included as considerations. The owner and staff are kind, patient, attentive, and strive for every customer to have an excellent/niche dining experience. They make you feel welcomed and at home. During the pandemic the entire staff has made everyone feel safe, comfortable and follow protocol every time we order. Highly recommend as my favorite restaurant. Dinned here as a result of a last minute cancellation so our group of four were thrilled to get in and even seated very quickly......those were the best parts of this experience. Shortly after being seated and giving our drink orders we were told we had to move, going from the very front by the window to very back. So, we thought this was odd but we're still thankful we were able to get a spot and proceeded to meet the new waitress. Upon telling her we had put in our drink order she said it had been lost and don't worry she'll take care of us. Strike two. Next after reviewing the menu a trip to the restroom added to the displeasure as it was not clean, there were no paper towels and the air dyer was subpar. This is an establishment that charges $45 for a steak. To top it off our food was ok but not cooked as ordered and the front table we were asked to leave was not occupied the entire time we were there. The issues described here were discussed with our waitress and fell on deaf ears. To top it off the owner was literally sitting behind us and absolutely knew what was going on but made no effort to say anything. We definitely will not go back to Jim's Bistro....ever.....not worth the money or the hassle. read more

Prime Rib was more fat than meat, and for $40 on a night when the prime rib was the special idk how they get people coming back. It was crowded inside with little room. Other then that the drinks were good and strong. I liked the look they had going inside too. Dark lighting and Sports games on made for some decent entertainment but degraded the bougie atmosphere, especially regarding the $120 I paid for 2 meals and 1 drink. read more

Terrible. I haven't been here in about 5 years and I won't be going back. I used to like their stroganoff and their steaks. I thought I would try the lamb shank tonight. We got there right when they opened at 4:30. When I ordered the lamb shank, the waitress left and came back about a minute later and told me they were out. I asked her how they were out when they had just opened. She said they had been out of it for a couple days. Okay. So I ordered the lamb chops medium rare. Horrible. Absolutely no flavor and so tough I couldn't cut them. I couldn't even eat them. Normally I bring home any leftovers but these were inedible. My companion got the stroganoff and said it was just okay. Dry and no flavor. I can't go back. $50 for inedible lamb chops, a salad and green beans. read more

I've been going to Peoria (kicking and screaming) consistently for almost 13 years, to see the in-laws. Historically the greatest cook on the planet (Hubby's grandma) would do the cooking, however now that she's 88 and having heart issues, we leave the cooking to Jim's. Sometimes we go to Jim's Bistro, sometimes Jim's Steakhouse downtown Peoria. But, its always Jim's of some form. Although a smaller menu, everything is great. Its always a good honest meal with good quality ingredients. Whatever it is you order, they have mastered the entree and they make it a memorable meal. I don't claim to be a connoisseur of Peoria cuisine, however Jim's far exceeds that place by Bradley that serves that god-awful sweet gondola bread. bleh. I made that mistake going there to relive hubby's college days and still regret it. Yesterday at Jim's I got the beefeater, and it was great. Sliced roast beef on sourdough bread. Again, it tasted fantastic, and they know what they're doing there. Don't change a thing. I look forward to my visits! read more

In our opinion, Jim's is definitely one of the best restaurants in Peoria!! It was an awesome evening, so we opted to eat outside. Elise, our server, was friendly and attentive as soon as we were seated. We started the meal with Oysters Rockefeller and they were absolutely superb with lots of spinach, bacon and cheese and perfectly cooked. The salads were fresh and nicely plated. Their house Creamy Garlic dressing is to die for (although I have to admit we were a bit taken back by the unexpected $3.50 additional charge on our check for this dressing option, Kevin's French dressing wasn't extra!). Their fresh rolls and cinnamon rolls were also quite excellent. I had the pan seared salmon with green beans and mashed potatoes. I have to say the meal was absolutely superb, the salmon was perfectly prepared with a yummy creamy dill sauce on the side, the beans were amazing and the chunky mashed potatoes were great. Kevin had the Beef Stroganoff and it was also excellent. The beef was well cooked and tender, the sauce was excellent and the pasta was perfect. All in all a wonderful, relaxing dinner. Tried Jim's Bistro for the first time on a whim. We arrived fairly early on a Thursday evening before the rush so we were able to get a table. This place is fairly small so I imagine reservations would be necessary on weekends. Service was spot-on! Very attentive and helpful with entree suggestions. Our dinners started with large, beautiful and delicious salads. It was too large for me to finish and still have room for my entree. Eating all the freshly made bread didn't leave much room either! I ordered the salmon and hubby ordered the ribeye. Salmon was delicious!! It was served with a side of almond green beans, fried potatoes and a dill sauce. Hubby loved his steak and said it was cooked perfectly. We were so full we couldn't order dessert. Prices were a little high so it is a place for a special occassion or treat. read more

Jim's Bistro has not only great service and a friendly atmosphere, the food selections are fabulous! We have ordered several items from The Bistro over the years and are never disappointed. Not only do they have the best steaks and cheeseburgers anywhere, but also many other great items such as salmon, pork chops, roasted chicken and countless others. The owners and servers do a fabulous job of making people feel welcome, even during these times of a carry-out only experience. They go to great measures to keep people safe. All employees wear masks and hand sanitizer is available as soon as we walk in the door, even just to pick up our food. They are highly supportive of their employees (and customers) and doing their best to keep those who depend on them for an income afloat during this time. I want to rate them with 2 stars but there was nothing really wrong with the place so I'm giving them 3 stars although I would not bother going back (so it's not really A-OK in my book). Nothing bad but really cramped and all of the steaks are well over $30. My 16 oz. ribeye (cooked rare) was not very flavorful and had a generous amount of gristle. O.M.G! Soooooooooooooooo good! Everything we ordered was phenomenal!! I ordered their pot roast and it was absolutely delicious! So tender. Exactly what I was looking for. My boyfriend ordered the duck and it was amazing. We've never had anything like it before. Salads were great, too (their Cesar dressing is my new addiction). It is a little pricey - but you get what you pay for. (Lunch specials are quite a bit cheaper.) The ambiance is a little outdated. The place could really use a face lift. But I guess it's like dating an ugly chick that's good in bed - I don't care; I love it and I'll keep going back as long as they keep performing :D read more

I went to lunch at this place last weekend. It was good! I had the cheeseburger and fries, which I realize isn't too exciting, but their burgers are steak burgers (delish) and the fries are homemade and really good!! Best steaks in town, hands down. Always get the filet medium rare and it's exceptional every time. Always get either the fries or asparagus on the side, and I always enjoy them. First time in this restaurant. I agree with the comment about the noise. I went on a Wednesday night, the place was full, and I found it hard to talk to the people at my table. Wait staff was pleasant, attentive, and responsive. The ribs were great. If you know "Twin Anchors" in Chicago, these ribs were as good as any I have had there. Surprised that they didn't have handi wipes or something similar. Waitress did bring me a wet napkin to clean my hands. Also the broccoli was cooked to perfection - bright green, crispy, and not overcooked. However, the salad needs to be at room temperature. Where ever the ingredients for the salad are stored, they are very cold. The lettuce, tomatoes, and salad dressing were so cold that the taste didn't come through. Another person I dined with had the same response. Entrees were in the $20-$27 range but the entrée included the above mentioned salad and either rice or potatoes. I asked and received broccoli instead of the starch option. I haven't eaten at many places in Peoria. I'll go back but only after I have explored more restaurants in the area. read more

The only thing better than the food at Jim's Bistro is the service, regardless of the size of the group they always exceed expectations. The steaks are amazing, but on a recent lunch visit with a couple of clients I had one of the best burgers I've ever had, the raging bull burger is over the top! I am not sure what happened to this place, I mean even Barry Bonds would strike out occasionally, but this usually Heights staple has lost its luster and is struggling to remain relevant. I really like Jim's too, it pains me to rate this place the same as The Fish House, I may have to go back and remove a star from the The Fish House review. On a regular basis we have 3 couples that meet to drink and eat, we are not rich or poor, or overly demanding but we are on a quest to find good drinks and great food in the Peoria area, which seems devoid of any shining stars compared to almost any other city in the world. Let's set the scene with Jim's is normally elbow to elbow, last nite, half full at best. The bright spot my friend's steak was good, great flavor and well prepared. The hostess was the only happy worker we encountered and the mood of the rest of the staff, try as they might couldn't suck the life out of her... Yet. Service was just short of rude and totally disorganized, two of them played musical sides until they gave up trying to remember who ordered what. Ladies next time just ask who ordered what if you can't remember. The main bar tender on top of being borderline offensive had a generally off putting disposition, often times looking as if she was in pain attempting to muster a fake smile. All as we had to pay for our two drinks so we could turn around and sit at our table only to order more of the same drinks from our server which would be poured by the same bartender. Perhaps that is to hide the ridiculous cost of sub par food by giving you two checks. The plus here is that if you like red wine she has a heavy pour, so much so that if you look closely at the menu wine is cheaper by the glass than by the bottle. The fish and chips normally a stand out was bland and without the amazing tartar sauce would struggle to beat Long John Silvers in a blind taste test. The chips or should I say slices of potato were basically raw. The prime rib was infused with great flavor but was tough as a mudder. Moscow mules, a refreshing summer time treat were absent from the menu as was any type of after dinner cordial like B&B. All in all 4 drinks and two entrees per couple ran right in at $100, pretty typical of the area. Peoria has so many overpriced sub-par options that I won't be returning to Jim's anytime soon. To win my business and loyalty all you need is 3 things: Great and consistent service, good food, and reasonable prices, unless you are looking for a heavy pour on a glass of red wine I suggest you look elsewhere. This is more of a fall from grace than a consistently average performer, if you are in a gambling mood and don't feel like going to the river boat perhaps you will make out better than we did. read more

It was so loud in the restaurant/bar....could not even hear my husband and son. The salad looked like it came out of a bag. I would not order the beef stroganoff. The noodles were hard, sauce didn't taste right and the beef was plain. My son had a steak and that looked great. I think this is a place where you might want to stick with steak and potatoes. I have been going to Jim's Bistro for a few years now and can say I have NEVER had a bad meal. I've been for dinner and had the roasted chicken and the ribeye and both were wonderful. The salads are wonderfully and elegantly prepared and the homemade bread is very good. For lunch I've had the chili that was out of this world as well as the rueben and blue steakburger. Both were dynamite served with homemade fries. The dinner is a little pricy so we don't get there as often as I would like. Lunch is very reasonable so we tend to go a little more. We have been going to Jim's Bistro for many years on various special occasions. This past Saturday was our anniversary and we took our family with us. What a disappointment!! I ordered an "Old Fashion" and it was terribly made. No balance in the taste, all alcohol. Yet expensive for a small rocks glass. My wife ordered a glass of wine. Again, expensive and a small pour. Our daughter-in-law wanted a Caesar Salad for her choice of salad. Yet, she was not told that would be a $6.95 up charge from what the normal salad would cost. The best was getting our meal and finding a nice long hair in my baked potato with the butter!! My wife and I got the waitresses attention and discretely pointed this out. She took the potato back to the serving counter, took the side of sour cream off the plate, got a new potato and placed the same sour cream cup on the plate. Should have replaced it along with everything else!! Then when it was returned, she sat it down on the table and said, "This one should be hairless"! New flash, so should the first one. Had we known it would be handled this poorly, I can guarantee the entire restaurant would have known about the "hairy food"!! NO offer from a manager for an apology. Doubt we will ever go back and unlike the past, will not tell anyone to go. Rather stay away, unless you like hair with you meal!! read more

I had a fantastic dinner at Jjim's when I was in Peoria for a conference. It was worth the drive from downtown Peoria to Peoria Heights. A hometown steakhouse, elegant without pretense. I had an excellent 16oz. Ribeye, with baked potato, a house salad, and I added green beans. I also ordered a gin martini and a glass of red wine. The house salad was the best house salad I've had in a long time, far more generous than most restaurants, with hearts of palm, egg, olives, pepperonocini, and more. The baked potato was a good size, the served complimentary bread with a variety of rolls, the steak was excellent--and the green beans were amazing, laden with diced onions and sauteed garlic.
