I started going to Jim's in the early 90's. This would be the spot I would hit with Uniondale natives Leaders of the New School before hitting Chung King Studio in NYC to be deafened by Busta Rhymes turning those 15 inch studio speakers up to 10 . My go to was the hot pastrami on a hero. I didn't think it was a better sandwich in the world. As the years went on, I still visited this deli. It always was a familiar neighborhood staple. It even kept the same aesthetic. What was super impressive is they knew the regulars by name and what they wanted to order. All you had to do was show up. I visited today and was hit with a whole new Jim's. The old cash register on the left is now a hot food station. Said cash registers now on the right with an LCD readout. There is a coffee station in the middle of the floor. Chairs and walking space occupied this space prior. This now places a wall in the middle of the floor. Although it disrupts the Feng shui, clearly a functional because there's a lot of coffee options. That goes great with the bagel and pastry selections that have been added as well. They have seem to expanded those pastry options. As well as added fresh bagels at 12 for 9 dollars The worker that helped me today was very attentive and a Uniondale native as well. The new owners kept some familiar elements like the extensive custom sandwiches brightly displayed on LCD screens. But a lot of it has changed and the new owners definitely made it their own. It's nice to be greeted with a bright and clean establishment that sells food. That is one of the things I look for. I will definitely visit again and see it It lives up to that Jim's legacy read more

A "real" NY Deli- a mainstay! The owner George has been here for 40 years. He and his great team of Ryan( taking over as George is retiring) and Scott know 98 percent of their customer's names. The energy in Jim's is off the charts. Loved meeting George and Ryan on Wednesday and then hanging out with Scott ( also a Phys Ed & Health teacher) on Thursday. They made me feel like a 100 million bucks. Thank you for a beautiful scrambled eggs n cheese on a poppy roll breakfast sandwich with spk on Wednesday. Grateful for the lovely sunny side up and over easy eggs on Thursday. Love the awesome and fun menu and the fact that you can get a turkey sandwich or anything at 5:30 am when they open. Absolutely a fun and only happens in NY experience to see the banter and the interaction between the 3 gents and all the customers. They know everyone's name. Not just Cheers, it's Jim's. Love the energy, the vibe, the warmth in the air and how they serve everyone and make us feel. You leave full, very content and very happy. Update ..... just walked into get some breakfast, simple and easy pancakes, $10 cost no less. When I walked in about 7/8 people in there, few sitting and eating other waiting for their orders. I placed mine and sat to the side to wait... about 15 minutes went by and I watched the entire store empty out. People who came in 10 minster after me get their orders and walk out to work. Bacon, egg and cheese, full on deli sandwiches and other orders all moving out the door ... I look around the store and now I'm the only person in there - staff outside smoking a cigarette and my pancakes no where to be found. Walked out, went down the block paid half the price and got served within minutes. Yea, definitely won't be return here. Under new ownership and it's 100% better than the last. Super clean, fresh food and welcoming staff. Just grabbed a bagel for starters but will definitely return for some lunch. Nice to have a deli in the neighborhood again! read more

My wife and I were in New York visiting my daughter for a few days and wanted to get the deli sandwich experience. Boy did we hit the jackpot with Jim's Delicatessen. From the second we stepped in the door we were made to feel welcome. My wife and I had lunch subs and my daughter had a breakfast sandwich. I came here for some breakfast before I went to go get my car fixed. The place had no tables to eat its just take out only. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel and it was delicious omg. The service was good and they give you a discount if you use cash. They have a big parking lot so you dont have worry about parking. Affordable prices especially compared to pantanos! Major disappointment. Stopped for a loaf of bread since in my experience most delis carry a small section of grocery staples -- not so here, just snacks and drinks, and deli food for purchase. Huge open floor space with people standing around and some eating at tables smack in the middle. Didn't look like a comfortable place to eat with so many people milling around you. I think it's better defined as a sandwich shop than a real deli. It was impossible to tell who's waiting on line, and who's already paid and just standing waiting for their order. They badly need an indication of the order line 'cause I get the feeling this place gets busy. So we're here anyway and we came right after Sunday Mass, so we're hungry and I'm gandering at the 'breakfast all day' egg sandwich list. I spy "egg and peppers" so I'm starting to salivate. That's what I order -- on a roll -- and my other half goes for ham and egg - on a roll. We step back and wait, a while, eventually the man taking the orders looks at my husband and kind of gestures with the bag. We step up to pay $7 and I ask him which one has the peppers and he points to one with a cryptic symbol drawn on the white wrapper, then he bags them. We hustle home and I open that coveted wrapper to find: Eggs on a roll. No peppers. No ham either. We open the other one, and while it does contain peppers it was not what I was expecting. It was more like an omelette with diced peppers, not well cooked but crunchy, mixed in. Man, I'm thinking of the greasy sauteed soft pepper strips piled over the fried eggs. Nothing. And, my husband didn't even get his ham. Major bummer. Gonna have to keep looking for 'my' deli. Rounding up to two stars on account of the good kaiser roll. read more

Like Meg, I frequented Jim's during my undergrad (and grad) time at Hofstra, and since I've been living in the area since for some time, Jim's has been my go-to for my almost daily bacon egg & cheddars, foul balls, QEs, and counselors. All of their sandwiches are reasonably priced, and VERY satisfying, whether you're looking to soak up last night's activities or on your way to work at 6 in the morning. Their regular staffers will get to know you (and your order) very quickly, and service is always friendly. It's like going to the Feast of San Genaro in Little Italy. George will surely accommodate you if you want something special off the menu. He asked Carlos to make me Chicken Scarpariello on the bone, also ordered Smoked Lox so you can have something different for breakfast. He is always looking for fresh ideas, all you have to do is ask! You don't feel like a stranger here. I loovee all of the sandwiches. This is one of those places where you can't go wrong with anything you order. My dad especially loves the fish fillet one. I don't get the previous bad review because Jim is one of the friendliest, most accommodating proprietors you could hope to meet. He seems to know everyone by name as well as their orders and the one customer who was very rude was given whatever she wanted to make her happy, including a free sandwich...and it should be noted this woman works at a competing deli. That tells me all I need to know, not only about Jim's integrity, but of the quality of the Collis...er, um, I mean the competing deli. My wife Patricia and I got the roast beef cheddar melts and they were fantastic and at a very reasonable price. We will definitely be returning often. Before attending Hofstra for college, Jim's was recommended by lots of people. Their name traveled all the way from the New York to Florida. It just so happens that our football coaches at Hofstra ordered Jim's for the entire team prior to every away game. I looked forward to grabbing my brown bag of goodness on those Friday morning travel days. My buddies and I would also hit them up when we needed a fulfilling meal. I've lived in Uniondale for my entire life and used to love going to Jim's deli on Sunday's for breakfast. They made the best sandwiches and had the best personality. Somewhere in the past 2 or 3 year they changed the way quality of their sandwiches. They're made very sloppy, sometimes which huge chunks of unsliced lettuce or egg lazily dangling off the side of the bread. They tend to forget to add some ingredients too. Today I got a bacon egg and cheese with lettuce and tomato, but without egg! Along with that, the prices have skyrocketed so you can expect to pay 28 dollars for 3 good sandwiches. I wouldn't mind the price of the quality was good, but they've decreased the quality by a lot. The only saving grace is the personality of the owner. He's a charming and kind man. read more

Great Sandwich. I had a beef with some garlic on it. It made my car smell like garlic for the rest of the day though, but it tasted good. The staff was friendly and was able to offer a few suggestions when I mentioned I had never been there. They have a few small tables if you want to eat there and there seemed to be enough parking right out front. read more

Working in the Uniondale area for a few days and needed a quick bite to eat. Decided to give "Jims Deli" a try. Bad decision. I ordered a "turkey sausage, egg and cheese" and what I got was something that resembled a "hot dog, egg and cheese". It was the worst tasting egg sandwich I've ever had. My daughter and I discovered this gem on our very first visit to Hofstra University and it is excellent! The breakfast and lunch sandwiches are to die for, especially anything made with bacon or their chicken cutlet. Prices are so low and the quality and tastes are amazing. Super clean, you can sit down, lots of beverage and bagged snack choices, and you'll always find a crowd, but they are so efficient that you'll have your sandwich in less that 15 minutes (if crowded and you picked something freshly cooked). Good Deli, good friendly staff. Your gonna pay acouple dollars more here for a sandwich than at the spanish deli's all over hempstead.....BUT the quality is clearly superior. They have all kinds of sandwiches with names in your typical long island deli fashion. They will easily alter any sandwich any way and they have never screwed up my order. BREAKFAST - They have two breakfast sandwiches that are monumental...the jersey bomber (good TAYLOR HAM egg and cheese). I spent alot of time growing up in Jersey and if you've never had taylor ham its the only thing in the world that can be just as good or better as bacon and sausage.....and the QUAGMIRE (bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, and a giant hash brown....yep its all in there). The qaugmire comes standard on a hero but I highly suggest getting the roll version. I ate the entire hero once and i'll never do that again....ugh..... They have hot food every day that is always good......their chilli is awesome. The most impressive thing about this place is the speed at which they make the sandwiches. First off. I am a long time Jims fan. I've been going here since I moved here in 2009. They catered to my college team after games. So with that being said. My go to has always been the quagmire. An amazing breakfast sandwich packed with eggs, bacon, sausage, and and hash browns on a hero. It's amazing. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu out of curiosity. Their menu is about a mile long, and can guarantee you will not be disappointed with any selection. They give you more than you can eat. Very friendly and welcoming. However I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. Because of the price increase. I'm pretty sure inflation played a huge part in that. So moving it back up to 5. read more
