I was hoping for more out of this place. I got a white hot plate with hot sauce mac salad and home fries. The hot sauce had zero taste to it. It was as if I was eating just greasy ground beef. The mac salad was okay but again very bland as were the home fries. My husband got a double burger. He said it was fantastic. Nice and juicy. The fries needed to be cooked a little longer. They have a very extensive menu and it's very clean. I would go back because I hear the wings are fantastic but that's yet to be determined. They need to step up a seasoning Factor across-the-board it seems especially with their meat hot sauce because it's a Rochester staple. I would go to Bill grays instead of Jim's if you're looking for a flavorful plate. Or Spencerport Hots which actually has my favorite. read more

Drove by this place a few times and never stopped. I'm glad I finally stopped by to check it out. The service was great, I made it in time before a line was out the door it was popping. I got the philly cheese steak and it was delicious . Very impressed on how the kitchen run and how they communicate with each other. I'll definitely be back to try more. Thanks for the great service. 4 stars is about right. The burgers were very juicy and exceeded my expectation. Onion rings were good. I ordered the double cheeseburger plate, which came with 3 onion rings, fries and a small soft drink. I asked for a milk shake instead of soft drink and was told it was an up charge which was fine. My bill then said $2.50 for a milkshake (milkshake prices were not advertised, but apparently that is the full price of a small shake). When I then asked about it I was told it wasn't an up charge it was in addition to. So I wound up getting my soft drink also. We ordered For the first time this evening. We were wanting a fish fry. Tried to decide between a few places nearby North Chili N.Y. We were sadly disappointed. Subpar fish fry. Thin. And not cheap. Looking for a good burger and found so much more....we enjoyed hots, burgers, chicken Caesar salad, and an awesome Steak bomber!! Jim's Ground is a special taste of the past of when I went to Jim and Ralph's with my Grandparents. My grandparents now are older and can't get or as much so often times I'll order there favorite from Jim's and bring it home to them for a surprise lunch! Ok so I only went for the wings, and I realize it's a burger joint. So I gave it 3 stars to be fair, but the wings were less than average. The sauce had a sweet of sweetness to his and a light heat. There were was not much crisp and they were a little under cooked. Let them cook 3 more mintues, and they would be much better. I will go back to to try a burger, but wings are always my focus. read more

I went based on Yelp reviews and am glad I checked the place out. If I'm in the area and want a burger I'd hit them up again. My visit was during lunch and I ordered their double cheeseburger platter which comes with french fries, onion rings and a small drink for $11 and change. The place was full but the service was fast. Those who ordered take-out stood to the side to await their orders, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find they provided table service for eat-in orders. The onion rings were OK and the fries were the typical crinkle-cut style which I'm not a fan of (they always seem to need far more salt to be enjoyable than they should.) I added lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, mayo and hot sauce to the burger. It was big, juicy and yummy. Their hot sauce was just a tiny bit light on the flavor side IMO, but much spicier than most I've had here in town which was a nice change of pace. Go check them out if you're nearby and help support another one of our local independent restaurants. read more

Usually very good food. Burgers fries fish and wings are USUALLY great. I got wings and a cheeseburger plate today and was very bland. The wings were depended on sauce to the point they were not edible. I called to complain and all they said was "I'm sorry next time you come in we'll make them Extra special" lol are you serious?? Terrible meal. My wife's chicken finger meal had chicken fingers that were over cooked and macaroni salad that was dry and flavorless. My dressed cheeseburger was over cooked and topped with one thin, see-through tomato and a tiny layer of shredded lettuce. Our side of French fries were old and stale. Our side of onion rings were soggy and limp. My daughter's chicken finger kids meal had dark brown, over cooked chicken fingers with stale, old, cold French fries. There wasn't one good thing in our order. Very disappointed with Jim's. I don't think we'll be ordering from them again. read more

We can't say enough good things about Jim's Ground. The burgers are excellent as well as the fries and onion rings. Occasionally when my wife and I are trying to 'cut down' we order the salads. The salads are loaded with chicken and it is well seasoned and tender. The staff never fails to amaze me. All young people with a commitment to do a good job. They never stand still. Always cleaning, delivering food or taking checkouts. You almost never have to wait. They are always very polite. I have been to very expensive restaurants, but to me this is my favorite kind of place. read more

I've been there twice and both times gone for the fish and shrimp combo plate. A half piece of fried haddock and 4 fried shrimp. The haddock is not beer battered, it is fried in a light breading and comes out clean and not greasy at all. It comes with a roll, fries, and your choice of coleslaw or mac salad. The fish and shrimp are outstanding. Kids meal are great also and for less than $4 come with a small entree some fries and a drink. I want to stop back to try the plate because I hear it is delicious, however, the fact that it is a single burger plate is kind of irritating. Your other option is 2 hots, which is standard, but, single burger? No option for a burger and a dog? I'm confused. This is Rochester. Get your plate facts straight so I can have one. Their fries are thick, and their burgers juicy. They make a great burger, no question about that. It's also pretty cool that they allow you to get chocolate milk as one of the drink options...most places make you pay extra, or don't even have the option! Quick burger joint with a nice menu spread. Typically order the cheeseburger (as good as Bill Grays) and onion rings - both delish. The kiddo gets nuggets but their kids menu is spot on...at least for my 3 year old Soup is good as well especially on a cold day. Staff is friendly and efficient and even on busy days we always seem to find a spot to sit. Its a great hometown place. I hope its here to stay. Prices are decent for the type of food. It was Meh....flavorless. The burgers tasted like the bun, and the bun (at least the bottom one) was a soggy watery mess. The hot sauce tasted like water. Service was good. Prices good. Clean and not busy. I was sick as a dog about an hour after and that lasted about 12 hours. read more

Went here when I heard they opened after the Jim and Ralph's closed on Elmgrove rd. there's about 10-12 tables that seat 4. Went around 145 Saturday 5/24. Staff was very friendly and kept the tables wiped after each customer. They even brought our food out to us. Food is just as good as it was at Jim and Ralph's. Hands down my favorite place to eat. The plates are best in Rochester, the burgers are big and the hot sauce is on another level. The wraps are great and the burgers are better than anything you'll get at a chain such as bill grays or tom whals. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable, you don't need a coupon to not spend $40 on burgers. The family tradition of the best ground around continues! I've been a loyal customer 2-3 times a week since they opened the original place (now bulldozed) on Elmgrove Road next to Bill Gray's under the name Jim & Ralph's 40 years ago. You won't find a better or fresher burger anywhere cooked to order with the best meat hot sauce! And it's not just the burgers, the steak sandwiches are delish, the wings are legendary, as are the piping hot fries, beef on weck, chicken dinners, fish fries....never had a meal I didn't love. Fast, courteous service, hot food like it's suppose to be. At one time, Jim & Ralph had multiple locations around town, including a giant eatery across from Kodak Elmgrove, but Jim's sons and daughter have taken over the family business under the guidance of Uncle Ralph under the new name of Jim's Ground and a "back to their roots" cozy restaurant on Spencerport Road in Gates. All the same great people, all the same great food at reasonable prices. INTERESTING TRIVIA: Burgers are in their blood! I believe Jim & Ralph's father, a famous boxer, was the original cook at the legendary Don & Bob's (now Don's Original) at Sea Breeze.
