Stopped in with my son and split a steak hoagie and a stinger hoagie -- both were excellent. The steak hoagie was classic Jim's: tender, juicy beef with just the right amount of seasoning and toppings. The stinger hoagie, with its combo of chicken fingers and steak, was messy in the best way and packed with flavor. Service was quick, the food came out hot, and the portions were more than enough for the two of us to share. Jim's never disappoints -- still one of the best spots for a hoagie in Buffalo. read more

Great food at this restaurant! A little hard to find parking around it but was easy to find when walking. We ordered the 6" stinger and it was unlike any sub we have ever had. Been to a handful of Jim's across Buffalo and this location is lowkey the worse. I guess this specific location is meant specifically for those who are drunk. Because the sandwich felt slapped together and was lukewarm by time I got it. The 12 inch Stinger I order was prepared with minimum chicken fingers. The Stinger has Angus Steak and Tenderloin Chicken Fingers topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, all on a toasted 12" Italian Sub Roll. We also ordered sweet potato fries and it was dry. The honey I ordered with it helped a bit but it was a small packet. I'm sure during the day it is a bit better but on Saturday at 130am after traveling all day on a plane and this being one of the only late night spots open, this was simply underwhelming. There was a ton of people in and out and most of them were under the influence. Usually there's a security officer on duty, but didn't see any. There's about 15 booths / tables to sit at, all along the window, so you can people watch as well. The place can seat maybe 50 people. Hyped this place up and brought someone out of town to eat here. Terrible first impression for them. But at 130am, this is the best option. read more

This female mall security guard threatened us because we sat at "her" table when we saw no one sitting there . If she is even any kind of person whose job it is to protect people and property by deterring threats she would have been more professional and respectful. She's Claiming she is a real cop, but I've never seen a real cop spend over an hour calling out orders for customers and sitting in a booth eating everything . Very good food after a night out friendly and accommodating staff no long wait time for food would go again

Jim's Steakout is a place that I've gone to around 10 times since moving to Buffalo and each experience has been pretty much the same, meh. I ordered from here last Sunday while watching Summerslam and ordered a chicken finger sub and a chocolate chip cookie, yet somehow, like every other time before it, the chicken finger sub is as meh as it could possibly be. The chicken inside was small, it didn't have much buffalo sauce, and it just lacked all the things to make it a great chicken finger sub. The chocolate chip cookie on the side was good, although I'm going to go ahead and assume they aren't freshly made, it was still a decent treat. Overall? Jim's Steakout is usually not someone's first choice for dinner, but they do the job when you feel like getting something quick. The food is always tolerable and at least does the job, if you come here, you basically know what to expect. read more

Has been my go-to for many years but I read something so disturbing on fb from a mutual friend that I will no longer support them. Someone generously paid for food for a homeless man and yet staff wouldn't even give him tap water to drink. Someone brought it up and staff said that it would cost $3 and change. Where is the humanity that you can't even give a person free tap water?? While loitering or panhandling is undoubtedly an issue that businesses may face, this was egregious. read more

We stopped here for lunch. So many options for eating. We opted for the original steak. It was so good! It was a little different with the lettuce but it was so good. Next time I will venture to something else. The prices were decent, the staff was amazing. It will be on our list for food next time we are in buffalo. read more

Allen St... My friend James works for the Buffalo PD, and whenever he has to organize a round-the-clock surveillance team, I always hear the other officers referring to "Jim's Stake Out" and I'm pretty sure they mean this place. Right? Some of the best sandwiches in Buffalo, if you go to the right location. Personal Experience: Not my fave location of Jim's, although in general I love Jim's. This one is great because it's right downtown on Allen where all the drunk people are, and it's open mega late. Unfortunately, because everyone's drunk you have to deal with the loudness, the fights, the cops, the employees treating you like you're drunk and the last thing they want to do is serve you, etc... The food is just about 5-star food, but the only Jim's with truly 5-star service is the one on Sheridan Drive.. by Sweet Home. The other Sheridan location is like a 1, with some of the worst service I've experienced. This one though, is great for people watching, and meeting drunk people. If you want a cheap late night meal at a place where you can pick up a girl or boy (or both), then you could do worse than coming here. You have to love the Frenchy and the Diavlo and such. Excellent, typically Buffalo, wet, greasy sub food. This is definitely the place to go after a night on Chippewa or Allen Street - very nice indeed! There is another one on Chippewa which is good too but my favourite location is the one near Sheridan and Millersport - always delicious in there and much friendlier than the other locations. Their Steak Tacos are good (ask for them medium or hot), very Buffalonian - not at all Mexican - but still very good. Their subs are their specialty, not least because they are so greasy and delicious... get one that has everything (Steak, Peppers, Cheese, Onions, Mushrooms) for the full Jim's effect. One of the heaviest sandwiches you will ever eat but also one of the most delicious, and extremely original. The closest to a real Philly Cheesesteak you will ever get outside PA but with a Buffalo slant to it. Their wings are good, but there are better places to get wings. We ordered a steak sub and cheeseburger sub with a large order of fries. I now understand why the cheeseburger sub is not listed with a photo anywhere. If customers saw the burgers alone they wouldn't buy it.. FYI I'm not a picky eater. I paid over 17$ for the cheeseburger sub to share with my son. He said it was a "yucky sandwhich." Went here after have a few drinks in DT Buffalo. They messed our order up after waiting 30 plus minutes. Not only did we receive the wrong order but the food was cold. On top of that, once "finishing" our meal on the way out other customers threatened us and attempted to take any left over food we had. Security did not do much to prevent this. Will not be returning here again now would recommend it to my worse enemy. read more

I've ordered five times from the Allen St. location during this Pandemic. Not sure if they have different Staff or Management but they have made Horrible food each time during the Pandemic. Twice I've ordered Jim's Blue which is a Finger Sub with Blue Cheese -- I always order it with Hot Sauce, Blue Cheese, with Onions No Other Condiments or Lettuce & Tomato. Once they delivered it without Sauce and Miracle Whip on it. Last Night they made it with BBQ Sauce & Miracle Whip (Don't understand their Obsession with Miracle Whip??) it was so disgusting we threw it in the Trash!! And they DON'T toast their Sub Rolls, everyone knows you Toast Sub Rolls unless Requested not to. We stopped ordering the Assorted because they keep putting Capicola on it & Miracle Whip when we asked for Mayo & No Cap. Jim's Steakout is a true institution and Buffalo-born born franchise (although currently only throughout B'lo). Sure it's drunk-people food and it's divey -- tables are not always the cleanest, although this location does a far better job at that than say the Main St. location. And yeah, the food may make your stomach hurt, but what did ya expect after you ate that 12" fried chicken finger sub or huge steak hoagie at 2am? I've slowly grown to love Jim's Steakout for some of those nights where you want some tasty steak subs.. As others have said, the chicken finger BBQ sub is pretty killer, but watch out -- the chicken fingers are super crispy and fried in oil. Although I enjoyed the crazy mess and eating it, the next day my stomach was screaming at me.."hey! what the heck did you do to me?" I can only eat here once in a while (like once every three months), but every time I do I find myself getting my monies worth. And I always smile on the inside when I hear others who have experienced Jim's Steakout but do not currently live in Buffalo say.."hey --- too bad we don't have this in our town." Jim's Steakout was one of first places I ate after a night of going to the bars in Allentown. It was late and a little inebriated. We start walking back to my friends place who lives in Allentown and asked what I wanted to eat. He gave me a choice of Towne or Jims Steakout. I said, lets try Jim's only because there was a lot of people there and the line was kinda long. So i said to my self if its late and there is a line and it looks busy, we have to try it at least once. We get it, and guess the patrons that visit this establishment were in the same state that we were. I look at the menu an asked whats your most popular item. The person at the counter said it was Jim's Famous Steak Hoagie. I said give me that with a large soda. It took a few minutes to get my order. It was fairly fast. But i guess they are so fast at it and they just bang out the orders quickly. I get it and man, I haven't seen a hoagie look so fricking amazing. It was loaded with meat and onions and whatever sauce they put. It was very very oily though. I haven't scarfed down that much food so fast in a short amount of time. After finish pounding it down. I was hella full and sobering up fast. I guess all that meat, oil and starch does help! Their mac and cheese balls are a must for any carb-cheese lover. Had them for the first time the other night and my goodness, they were everything. I've been to three Jim locations and have always enjoyed the food they produce. I've also had the Frenchy from this location, super dope. My boyfriend had the stinger and he loved it. The food tastes fresh, full of flavor, and nice and hot! It's pretty popping on week nights, so give them a minute to make your order. I recommend going here if you live within walking distance. It's on the corner so parking could get brutal. Prices are a little on the high end for a sandwich, but it blows Subway out of the park, so no complaints paying. Place could be a bit tidier. Bad service. I am unsure if the have curbside or not. Was waiting on the phone for eight minutes waiting for someone to pick up (after being hung up on twice), decieded to go in. Clearly only one of the three were working. Finally got waited on. Wasnt going to give me a drink as i paid for. Writing reviews for places like Jim's is so hard. Is this a unique, over-the-top, amazing dining experience? No. Do I love Jim's with all my heart and drunken brain? Yes. Will I continue to return? Absolutely. Whether I'm tearing into a Taco in a Bag, a stinger sub, or hoagie poutine fries, I experience an intense blend of guilt and ecstasy. All of the food is so wonderful, fatty, and delicious. There is legitimately nothing on the menu that isn't superbly tasty. As I eat my meal, I can physically feel my veins clogging. But guilt is best saved for another time. Service here is fast and friendly enough. There isn't a lot of employee-customer interaction, which is expected in a restaurant like this. Every time that I'm here post-midnight, I end up making conversation with other patrons eating, so it is a surprisingly good place for socializing and meeting people. read more

Don't bother getting the stinger fries from here. It will not look or taste the same as those at other locations. Their chicken fingers always taste old. Make sure you check your order before leaving the store. The only good thing about this location is that its clean. And don't bother going on a Friday or Saturday night. You will never get your food. A great hoagie! I am not sure we do 'hoagie' in Canada. Think Shwarma, think sub, meld the two together. Fresh 8 inch Italian roll, gigantic portion of saucy, warm, shredded chicken, grilled hot peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, chipotle mayo. Yum. Got mine as a take out. I have seen the ads all over the place. I have seen numerous locations. But I have never, until now, been to Jim's. If there's anyone who holds Jim's to such high esteem, it's....themselves. Walking into the Allen St location (I find that a lot of good counter-service establishments are to be found in lively locales) the large-print menu states "Buffalo's Best Steak Hoagies....No Bull." They're so confident in their products that they will even remain open until 5 AM for you to stop by. I've never heard of any Buffalo hoagie showdowns, but nevertheless, I had to stop by and see if it really was the best... Jim's is part of the "New Generation" fast-food label, as in, unlike the Old Generation which fell in love with the microwave, New Generation actually makes the meals to order. So I was all the more glad to order a steak sandwich with actual grilled steak! I would testify that hoagies are a Philadelphia institution, but I will play Jim's game and say my meal was regional: A foot-long Jim's Famous hoagie with everything (from Phil...I mean, Buffalo), a side of poutine (Canadian), and some loganberry to drink (definitely Buffalo). Subway could take a lesson from Jim's as to how much meat to put in the roll: it was PACKED with steak. They also use the unconventional yet worthwhile technique of putting the meat on top of the veggies instead of vice versa. I'm not usually keen of lettuce and tomato on a steak sandwich, but that, the grilled onions/peppers, and Jim's "secret sauce" (chipotle mayo, the most obvious secret if there ever was one) all melded together very nicely. I didn't need the foot-long: there's so much meat on the half-foot that it will fill you up quickly. My stomach was big and hungry enough to barely swallow the whole foot, nevertheless. The poutine has been "Americanized" at Jim's: shredded cheddar cheese that easily melts has replaced the curds. A slight disappointment at first, but the taste wasn't that much different, and I still was reminded of something that the Canadians definitely pioneered. Nothing special about the loganberry, just your standard Aunt Rosie's at the pop fountain. It shall be clear: these are NOT hoagies. It may be on a hoagie roll, but they are Philly Cheesesteaks, pure and simple. I presume "hoagie" was used as a way to make it sound more original, more "Buffalo". Regardless of whatever name it is called, the stuff is still pretty darn good! Not the best cheesesteaks I've ever had (those obviously are to be found within the city limits of Philadelphia) but they are still worth the occasional visit now and then.
