This is where it all began! I used to be at Jim's Steakout at least ONCE a week (when I lived across the street). Sad, I know. Regardless, no one Jim's steakout in the city does it better! Ours is a love hate relationship. Do I want a Jim's Hot Bleu-Yes Please. Or a Diavlo? Or the Combo? OR A Frenchy?! Try them all! We ordered a 1/2 Turkey sub without bacon and they put bacon on it, we ordered the 5 peice chicken fingers dinner and we got 9 raggedy look'in fries, we ordered Chicken n the grass and got 2 tbsp of chicken and 1 tbsp of spinach and what looked like a hot dog bun. I love that Jim's is open until 5am. The staff are friendly, the food is made fresh and not sitting around waiting like some other fast food places. It's not fine cuisine, but they have really good fries and sometimes that is exactly what you need. They also serve funnel cake with lots of powdered sugar. Took a long walk down allentown with a friend yesterday , and we decided to grab POUTINE because he was craving it. However, I have never had one before and wasn't really up to it, and I don't really enjoy eating at Jim's. Anyways I gave it a chance, and it was actually okay not as bad as I thought it would be. I usually just enjoy my fries with ketchup only, but with gravy and cheese now that was something different for me. Guess its good to try new things every once in awhile. And trying it at Jim's was a great place, because they did a good job. I might be going for more, then maybe eventually it will be become a favorite. Service was great, although we did wait a tad bit long for our food to come. The inside is very calm, and nice looking. Allentown is just a great place itself, a lot of different people and very crowded, especially at that intersection. I loved it though! read more

It's late nite food, if all of the drinking doesn't make you feel awful this food will. Tastes fine, if you're drunk multiply that by 10 and its actually really great food. Taco in a bag is weird, but good. The real differentiator about this location is its body guard at the door and you can almost guarantee you'll get a fight anytime you're there. Stopped by here last Saturday night around 1am to check out how Allentown is doing. Allentown is hopping with hipster and hippies. and was a cool scene outside. As to Jim's Probably my first time in here since I moved out of buffalo. Used to eat here late nights all the time, as my friends lived in the building across the street back in 99-2003. Completely remodeled from when I remembered it, and have to say they did a good job. Nice modern look inside with good use of color. It was kinda of dingy white from what i remember. Alas I did not go here for the decor. I came here for the chicken finger sub, Jim's Bleu. No one makes one of these in Las Vegas like these guys, so I gotta get one while I am back. Honestly I thought when I was looking into this place it was like a small business, turns out its actually a chain... so i guess this is fast food. We came in late like 10pm, in one of the wilder sides of buffalo. My father and I split the larger 12' philly. It was huge! covered with thin slices of meat, melted with cheese. It hit the spot, and I would totally come here again if I'm not worried about my figure. Not bad. Some friends and I came here around midnight on a Tuesday night & they were still open, which was cool. The poutine hoagie fries were alright but for a location so close to canada, it was not authentic. It should have had cheese curds, not colby jack cheese. The mac and cheese bites were delicious, and the mango habanero sauce is amazing. The pizza hoagie was delicious. The pepperoni and two cheeses added to a cheesesteak was a great mix. All in all, only real complaint was the poutine recipe, and prices being a tad steep for the size of the portions. Would go back for sure. Good group environment. read more

This review is part of a trifecta of Jim's Steakout with three different locations - this review being the one on Allen St. We discovered Jim's last summer on our trip to the south when we visited a location on Sheridan Drive in Amherst and re-visited that one on June 6th. The other is located at Chippewa downtown. Backstory: During a day trip from Toronto (Mar 13/14) we happened to be going to a bar on Allen and noticed this location. Two things caught our attention - the bright neon light saying they were open until 5AM and the Sub of the Week discount. This was our final food destination on the way back to the Gulag (Canada) and we picked up four subs to go. (I also visited this place on Jun 6 but just to pick up a rewards card - see below). Parking: There is no free parking so you either need a meter or a lot. There is a lot behind the restaurant but when I went in March the meter was not working. As our main goal was a bar we ultimately parked on the street closer to that bar. Overall a medium sized establishment - full seating/bathroom. Also as stated they display a sign stating the sub of the week and are open until the wee hours (for the drunks leaving the local bars I can suspect - who of course know where the best places are to eat are [hint: Jim's]) . The Order: We ordered three 12" Philly Cheese on white and a 12" Diavlo on white. Overall we liked the Philly - better than the Chippewa location but not as tasty as the Sheridan location. The Diavlo - a case of "hot no flavor" - as such we disliked it and won't get that sub again. One thing that caught my eye - I found on a couple of the four subs that the meat was not extended all the way to the end of the bun. They load it quite a bit though so one can easily move it around. A detail point. Payment: They took VISA. Hours: Not sure of the days but open until 5 or 5:30 AM. Rewards: It was not until I was home after this March trip that I realized they offer a rewards program where they reward you 10% of the order against future subs. An amateur - learning that at this time was a huge burn. We bought 10 subs over three locations before figuring this out. Oh well. I went to this location on Jun 6th to pick up a card and used it later that day. ** Trifecta - So based on the three locations we visited, this was the middle favorite. The flavor was better than Chippewa by far but not AS tasty as the location on Sheridan. Great location - great hours though for those who do go to a bar and want a great Saturday/Sunday afternoon lunch at home with an excellent sub. Plus a ample seating to sit down. read more

I was craving Jim's After watching the hockey game and playing at the casino. Stopped at Jim's around 1130 last night as it was beginning to get really busy but the entire staff worked like a well tuned machine. Plus they were very very pleasant. The food never disappoints, and last night was no exception either. Besides the food being always good I am most impressed with that crew last night they were excellent; no ugly faces they moved in synchronicity. we ordered two subs from the Allen street location at 735pm on 5/31. the stinger sib had a few chunks of chicken, not full fingers. cheese on order was not provolone, and when you order for pickup, there should be more attention to accuracy as I can't come back to have you fix my order. it tastes fresh, but when corners are cut, you make customers angry. read more

This place needs a lot of help!! The staff had progressively gotten more rude and disgusting is almost unbearable!! There were 7 people cooking tonight Sunday December 9th at about 8:45pm when i came in to order a sub!! Haute cuisine it ain't. But, being a super huge, super delicious sandwich it certainly is! I had never tried one of these babies before... but upon heading to the theater and realizing I was STARVING, a friend and I ducked in for a quick bite and...... I'm hooked. I had the "Jim's Famous Steak Hoagie" and I can see why it's famous. "Steak chopped on the grill topped with fried onions, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and Jim's Secret Sauce - all on a toasted Italian roll". WOW! I gave a nod to health (ha!) by getting mine on whole wheat. It was the PERFECT sandwich! Meaty, cheesy, crunchy, gooey, and (surprisingly) not greasy. My experience was horrible. A manager named "Chris" was complaining about having to work all day. And when I asked about what time they stopped serving(because I was trying to be polite). He said that he has been working all day and that it was just too late to make food, even with over 15 minutes until close. I said that I could come in and order in person within the 6am time frame. However he kept trying to dissuade me. I think that he may've thought that I was another drunken customer. It was very disappointing. I spend $40-70 a week there. In one of the seedier neighborhoods for sure and not what I remember from the last time I was by this place. They have expanded and cleaned it up but it still has an element feel that I wasn't comfortable with given that I am Canadian and we don't carry guns. This place is all about making money and not offering much of anything in return. Boneless chicken wings sound gross to me and the bread they use is not the quality from days gone by. My favorite sub they have is the Diavlo which has steak chopped on the grill topped with fried hot peppers, melted cheese and Jim's Secret Sauce - all on a toasted Italian roll. All hoagies come in an 8 inch or 12 inch option. In the mood for a taco or possibly a wrap? wings? other hot or cold hoagies? How about a burger grilled to perfection? that's just a short list of options you can get here. If you're on a diet or just like to eat healthy there are different varieties of salads, from healthy to unhealthy salads, or even order one of each ;). There are a few different side orders you can add onto your order as well such as onion rings, chips and three different styles of fries: regular fries, taco fries, and if you're Canadian you'll love this more than anyone, the poutine fries. There are combo options you can choose from too which will give a slight discount if you order your food in that fashion. Think this can be your favorite place where you might start dropping some serious cash here to feed that Jim's craving? Ask them a Jim's card. The card is free and you can gain points with every purchase you make. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you tally your points and get a meal on Jim's for being a great customer. I lost my card but they were able to get me another one and transfer my points, so you know they want you to get the points and get a free meal on them because that's just how they are, great people who put up with a lot of drunk people to make sure your fed before passing out. This is probably the second best location Jim's has. This location is right on the corner of Elmwood and Allen street. This was an ingenious move considering it is getting Elmwood drunks, Allentown drunks, and some forgetful drunk stragglers coming from downtown. This is one of the best ideas for a company I've seen in a long time, and can see this place blow up and expand throughout the U.S as one of the next big things. This was the second Jim's Steakout location I've visited and I much preferred this one. It is bigger than the Chippewa location and has a good amount of seating. I went a couple times both in the late night rush and in the day time and the staff were friendly and efficient on both visits. The first time I got my usual late night tacos and macaroni and cheese bites and they were the perfect junk food snack I'd been craving since my last visit to Buffalo. The second time I decided to try something new and got the Cordon Bleu sub. It was soooo good. The chicken finger was real chicken. The ham was delicious and ample. The bun was soft and chewy and rich. It made me seriously consider visiting Buffalo more often than the once a year I average. Love the large menu and late night hours. I'm glad there isn't a Jim's Steakout in Toronto or I'm be the size of a house. Best late night cuisine. read more
