    Steak hoagie 12"

Buffalo (East Side) take on the classic Philly cheesesteak - and it's OUTSTANDING! Not SHY (HA!) with the meat at this hole in the wall takeout place. Didn't phone ahead (like most of the customers had on this busy Friday afternoon), but it was just a short wait. HIGHLY Recommend! [Note: Like most Buffalo area cheesesteaks, it comes with a tasty sauce. If you want it authentic Philly style, just ask for your hoagie without it.]

Don't expect too much from this place in terms of ambiance or location, but I'll tell you what- this is the most delicious steak sub you will ever eat in your entire life. The service is great and everyone is always friendly. The prices are just right and this sun is LOADED. You will be messy after this meal! 5/5 all day

Nobody likes to be compared to someone else. But at times you have no choice. Shy's is very similar to Scotty's, if you know then you know. So don't hesitate to come down and get yourself a great sub. Be mindful, they may not answer the phone. If you have some time, you may find it easier to just come on down and order.

Shys is still the best steak sub in my opinion, but the wait time and not answering the phone is not a good look. I waited over an hour for food in person because I couldn't get through the phone line.

Steak hoagie was on-point. Reminds me quite a bit of the former Original Steakhouse (on E Delevan) - right down to the smell, taste, and foil wrap presentation. Highly recommended!

Spending time in Buffalo seeing family. We decided to get steak subs from a Black business instead of the same old from that other place. Shy's was excellent! We ordered two large steak hoagies, one with mild and one with hot peppers. Delicious! Hot fresh and full of good meat, cheese and onions. Wished we got both with the hot peppers, it was sooooo good! I also got the chicken fingers with fries. Fresh, hot and crispy! And the lady serving us at the counter was so sweet and friendly! Loved her! We will definitely recommend everybody come here for steak subs! My Buffalonian Fam says this takes them back to the subs they used to get from Scotties back in the day!

We were reading an article in the buffalo news today about best places to get a steak sandwich and we decided to get a steak sandwich from Shy's. The steak sandwich was very good and I thought better then Jim's Steakout. They use a sauce similar to Jim's but I thought Shy's was better. We will go back soon to try other subs from shy's. Friendly staff as well. If you want other options besides Jim's try Shy's

A very good steak hoagie. The pic makes me hungry.

I'm exploring the surrounding areas of Niagara Falls and decided to check out Buffalo. On my expedition, we ran into Shy's Downtown Steak Shop. We ordered two steak sandwiches. Hot and delicious!!! Seasoned just right! Bread is so soft! Just a good sandwich! So good that we went to Seneca Casino to eat them and two passer-bys asked "where did you get those sandwiches from???" That is how good they look...and taste! Beware of a couple of things: 1) CASH ONLY, 2) In the heart of urban Buffalo (ghetto), 3) Take out only, 4) Slow (thank God they show movies on a mounted tv while you wait!) Nonetheless, remember one thing, they are NOT Shy with the meat (get it?).

Amazing. I love Philly cheesesteak, and this place is legit. I love the cheesesteak with the hot peppers. The steak is very tender, just melts in your mouth. The rolls are great. The mixture of peppers with the cheesesteak is just great. There isn't really anywhere to eat in there, it's mostly just take out, but it is definitely worth it. I drive quite a ways just for this cheesesteak. So if your out that way, it's definitely worth a stop!

Wooo whee --- where has this steak shop been all my life? Apparently right here on the east side! The neighborhood doesn't have the greatest reputation, but I'll gladly risk my life to come here for these steak subs (it's really not that bad). If you have a smidgen of doubt, just take a look at the photo I uploaded. That is a heavenly sandwich. Yes, it's oily, greasy and cheesy...and you'll love it. A ton of freshly-grilled beef, with cheese, onions, mushrooms and peppers served on a white locally baked Constanzo roll. The 8" sub is around $9, while the 12" is $12, but even the 8" sub can be split in half. They grill right behind the counter and it is take out only. The sandwich itself is immaculately packed inside layers and layers of tinfoil and will be piping hot, even if you open it 30m+ later. The grease will absorb all through the roll and I don't suggest eating it in your car, as it can get a little messy. Nonetheless, I'm so thrilled to have discovered this east side steak shop so close to downtown. You bet I'll be venturing down for a delicious steak sandwich very often and I urge you to get out here and try one for yourself. Forget Jim's --- come to Shy's.

As soon as you walk in you can feel the soft ambiance, see lovely notes and a few pictures on the wall. It's a bit small but the service is amazing. Once the food comes out; it's brought to the table and they make sure you have everything you need. All the food is made from scratch and you can tell how much love was put into it by the first bite. I order a breakfast sandwich with a side fries water. My friend got a burger with a side fries and coca cola. Our food was sooo good and we will definitely come back. Next time we will be trying the dessert and other meals on the menu!!! By the way it is a bit limited and the dining hours end by 3pm I believe.
