I ordered whiz on the cheesesteak. When I got my order, I thought it was the wrong one cause it didn't even look like it had whiz on it. Turns out they just spread a light layer on one side of the bread... the complete opposite of Jim's on South Street where the steak is drenched in whiz, which is how it should be when it's an extra cost. The meat hardly had any flavor, which was upsetting considering the one on South Street made me consider Jim's the best in Philly. The customer service is another thing that needs work. The staff were rude and not helpful at all. The main pros are there's a free parking lot and the bathroom is clean. read more

OMG Would give O stars if that was an option. I order a cheesesteak with extra American cheese and onions, onion rings, fries with bacon and cheese and a Oreo milkshake. First of all, the guy making the cheesesteak didn't mix in the onions he just slapped a mountain of onions on the top of the steak. It was greasy and and bland. The onion rings were not edible and the fries were like McDonalds fries with cheese whiz and a smidgette of bacon and the milkshake was milk with bits of Oreo (I guess they didn't know that you use ice cream in a milkshake) This place use to have really great food but I should have known better when I walked in there on a Friday night and it was empty. I am not pleased that I am writing this review, but my hand was forced. The JIM's in Springfield's customer service is below par. I am from Philly but live in DE. I have been a consumer of Jims my entire life, my mother use to get Jim's steaks when she was little from the original Jims in West Philadelphia. Jim's steaks are good but what I truly like about them is their Mud sauce (Home made hot pepper sauce). I placed an order and spoke with two Jims representatives expressing that I want the sauce with my meal. My husband drives and picks up my order brings it back to DE and low and behold, no mud sauce. I call Jims and the manager was really rude expressing that all they can do is have me drive 30 minutes back to the store to pick up the sauce that I originally ordered. I asked him if their was any compensation for the gas and lack of accuracy and for my order. He then states "we are not perfect ma'am, but there is nothing else I can do, I can not compensate you in any way especially with giving you another $11.00 steak for this issue". I said, then what compensation do you have for this, he just spoke over me and stated what he would not do. Such a lack of customer service! I am very displeased with Jims in Springfield PA and the manager that was working tonight. 2 stars is about the best you'll get here. The steaks were about the greasiest I've ever had and could have used a more seasoning, too. I would have given it 1 star, but the size of the sandwich seemed pretty good, even if it was only mediocre. I'm not sure what other steak shops are in the immediate area, but if you're heading down to the Clifton Heights/Collindale area, try Chris's Pizza, Femi's or Pat's Pizzeria. the first time i had jim's was in philly. it was very good and i always liked going back there however, the travel time made it a tad out of my way. then jim's opened a location in the suburbs near me. it's only about 20 mins from me. my brother in law and i are always craving it and go there late at nights. they open until 3am on the weekends i think. the cheesesteak sandwiches never disappoint us but the people working there is a different story. they're ALWAYS cranky and in a pissy mood, not very polite or courteous. i've been here countless number of times and never once did i not leave annoyed at the poor customer service! despite the great cheesesteak sandwiches, 2 stars is the best i can give. fire your staff and hire better people!!! read more

Jim's is good. i still prefer other places but Jim's will satisfy a craving if i have one, and need a close spot. that said, i think South street Jim's is a little better than this one. i always get spotty customer service/ order taking. they have a weird line that unless you know the drill you might get confused. especially since every time i have been there, it is pretty empty. many times they get the order confused. dont stand and look at the menu, just go right up to the cheesesteak window. This isn't your South Street Jim's, which is one of the best steaks around, but it's pretty close. The sandwich just seems sort of less than that, maybe because the non-stop traffic on south street adds more meat to the grill, so the flavors from that grill make a better sandwich? I've tried Jim's a long time ago and as far as the chain cheesesteak locations go, similar experience. The roll was perfect. The meat is chopped which is a good thing. Steak was little overcooked and chewy. I ordered American cheese which remained cold in the bun. I'm more of a melty gristly cheese kind of guy. This tasted more like when a sandwich gets cold and the cheese turns hard. Just not a good sandwich all around. The staff was super friendly and fast. Very good staff. I guess I was expecting the experience of walking up to a greasy old counter to find an overweight balding man in a cramped steamy room. I was ready to order my "Wiz wit and a side a fries, hot peppers on the side." Instead I entered the strip mall to find an establishment refurbished, likely quite recently, despite its origins nearly 75 years prior. Places to sit, a clean cut staff, they even took credit cards... someone else said they didn't. I thought I might be in the wrong place. I ordered the sandwich and there it was just as I had imagined it but is a setting that confused me, where was the standing room only counter where I was prepared to fight for elbow space? Where was the fat, bald man, the steamy room, the grease? OK, to be fair the grease was in the sandwich, but fat is where flavor lives. The peppers on the side were great, I may have eaten 10 of them I may have consumed more. I do love this place. My favorite thing to get is their buffalo chicken cheese steak with a side of onion rings. Both are awesome. Be sure to speak clearly to the cook and make sure they know and understand what it is you want and how you want it. Not all cooks there are great, there are 2 that never mess up my order, but for the ones who do I watch them like a hawk and make sure they know exactly how I want my food. I also enjoy the added bonus of watching your steak being cooked right there in front of you by a skilled griddle technician. As good as their steaks turn out, I wish the same could be said for their fries. More often than not, the fries turn out underdone and soggy. This is a prime example.of how cheesesteaks are supposed to be done. I have been to their South Strert locarion and this one is far less busy, quicker service. They have crazy extended weekend hours that are open till 3 am! I have been here many times and have never had a bad experience as of yet. The people working here are pure troopers. They are happy, pleasant, (even @2am) and are veey helpful. I have gotten the cheesesteak, (no brainer) many times, it is always as I ordered it and there is plenty of space to sit and relax. It's almost lost in Springfield though. You'd never expect to find a gem like this in Springfield. Delco seems to have trouble with having real good consistant food. The decor is classic black and white. They sell their own shirts too. When I would wear mine, I'd always get people stopping me and telling me how good their experience was. If you find yourself on South St. in Philly goto their flagship store there and you can have just as good a sandwich. But go hungry, they have lots of food. Tip, if you are thinking about the buffalo chicken cheesesteak, it is on the hotter spicier side. It will clear out those sinuses my friend. So friday, saturday night, make a morning of it.... The rolls are good, and the steak is da bomb! I never get shitty, processed, 80% oil cheese slices. I go right for the whiz! You never have to worry about that 'not melting' or 'being hard' It's cheese whiz! The people are always friendly too! I went the other day and the girl behind the counter struck up a conversation about my sunglasses. I'm not sure why because at the end of the convo she said: "I don't like sunglasses" Oh the humor of this world! But it shows you most of them will make convo with you while you wait to make it feel a little comfortable. (not that it's uncomfortable) I just hate going to places and standing there in silence like I'm in the 5th grade school cafeteria line. After having chicken cheesesteaks from here on a few occasions, I feel comfortable recommending this location. The chicken breast is chopped up, but not as finely as the beef version. With the kind of chicken breast they use, I can understand why. The steaks are good and the bread has been fresh every time. My boyfriend is from Long Island but spend his college years at U of D. When he would go into Philly, he was introduced to Jim's Steaks which he swears are the best. During the Labor Day weekend, we were going to a party in Chinatown and he wanted to swing by Jim's on South Street afterwards. Being super filled after the party we scrapped that plan. For a compromise I took him to the Delco outpost of Jim's Steaks hoping that it would satisfy his need. The food itself was delicious. How could meat with wiz and fried onions be anything but? I also went for the black and white shake which was perfect. My arteries didn't feel that great but its not everyday. The cleanliness of the restaurant could have been a little better but its a cheesesteak joint; I feel that they all have to have a little grime on them to be good. read more

If you need a cheese steak, and you live in Delco, it's a great alternative. Is it Tony Luke's or Geno's? No chance. But you're in Delco, so either drive to 9th and Passyunk or deal with very good but not a 5 star. They do tend to get backed up, and the service can be a bit rude, but it's still a great Philly cheese steak in the neighborhood. I've also noticed they tend to really let the line back up, then serve everyone at once. I get that it's easier that way, but it can be a pain when you just missed the previous steak that got put on the flat top. I live in Tampa now, but visit my family in Clifton Heights often. This place is the best I've had in the neighborhood now that the Painted Horse is closed. Def worth a stop when you need your cheese steak fix. read more

I went to the South Street location before the Springfield one, so it's kind of natural to compare the two. Here you don't have a line meandering out the door and celebrity pictures all over the walls. What you do have is more room to eat and very friendly service--at least this was my experience today. I ordered a cheesesteak, fries, and a soda, all of which were A-OK, 3 stars. If you want more of a touristy Philly ambiance, go to the one on South Street. If I could give half a star I would. First time ordering from this location, just a cheese steak with extra cheese and sweet peppers. I order this during my lunch break. I work 5 mins down the street. Place the order when I got in the car and went there to pick it up. I was a little surprised to know that my sandwich was already waiting. Didn't think nothing off it as to them being fast. Was in a hurry due to being my lunch break. Once I open the sandwich I could already feel that it was cold, the cheese didn't even melt and there's no way it could get that cold in roughly 15 mins after being made. So if your ever in delco which is the suburb part of philly I would visit this place but it's something that doesn't make me wanna keep going back to. You really don't get the excitement of being at Jim's steaks like as if you were at the one on south street, there is no long lines and it's not as greasy as the one on south street which means it isn't juicy! If I had to recommend this place I would say yea try it if your in the area but I would definitely say make sure you visit the one on south street. The food was good they do pack it a little bit more with meat here then the one on south street but I had better cheese steaks elsewhere.
