We appreciate the quick service when the car didn't start. Turns out it was a switch that wasn't turned off. The shop didn't find it initially either. That isn't the issue though. One of the guys working there, after he finally found the issue, said to my spouse "it's nothing we did, it's the nut behind the wheel" Seriously? That's how you treat customers? Took my new/used vehicle (2017 Mercedes Benz GLS-450) in for a safety and inspection check prior to me, officially purchasing it from a local dealership. The staff was extremely friendly, and did a thorough inspection of the vehicle. They gave me honest and thorough advice on the vehicle's health, and I was very happy with the service I received. This business deserves more than five stars, I was treated like family, and they are by far the most experienced professionals I have ever dealt with in terms of automotive service! Prices are extremely reasonable for what I believe is most certainly five star service!!! I'll be bringing my truck in later this year for a full tuneup! If I could give negative stars I would. Googled Jim's Garage. Got the following "Jim's Towing & Automotive can meet all your Volkswagen Repair and Maintenance Needs". My Volkswagen was in their shop for 3 weeks. Jim's Garage did not have the equipment to "program" my VW. After 3 weeks they could not fix it. When I asked for work to stop, they wanted to keep working on it. I asked 5 times for them to stop. They would not, and wanted to bring someone else in to "reprogram" the car a second time. The person they called could not make it that day. So they agreed to take my car somewhere else. By then it was going on 4 weeks. Jim's Garage towed my VW different shop. I paid for parts only. Another shop wrote the following "'UPON INTIAL INSPECTION FOUND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TIMING WAS INCORRECT A WELL AS CAMSHAFT TIMING. REMOVED TIMING BELT. USED THE TOOLS TO LOCK THE CAM AND PUMP IN PLACE AT TOP DEAD CENTER. REINSTALLED TIMING BELT." My experience with "Daniel" is that he is not 100% truthful, and not trustworthy. Daniel said it would take 3-5 days to get a High Pressure and Low pressure fuel pump. I called parts and was able to get it ordered ready to install in 2 days. Daniel also said he would call me in a day. I did not hear from him in three days. Please do not take a Volkswagen to this shop. I gave the benefit of the doubt to the shop and was sorry I did so. read more

Our truck wouldn't start on New Year's Day at a restaurant, it was under warranty. We called Jim's and within a couple of hours they had it towed to the dealership. We were impressed that the driver even turned the keys into the dealership for us, saving us the run around. They also kept us notified by text when they be there to pick up the truck, called us to get instructions about the keys, and confirmed pick up. Excellent service. read more

Needed a tow for my husband and called Jim's - they were on the way before the call ended. Needed tire service and they were ready to be there in a few minutes and offered a reasonable price. So much quicker than roadside and very professional. My husband had fixed the issue right as he arrived but their time was so quick and they were friendly even though we canceled. I'm new to the Elgin area, and hadn't yet found a mechanic. When my old Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo wouldn't start over Labor Day weekend, I suspected the starter and called around first thing Tuesday morning. Jim's quoted a price much more reasonable than area competitors and picked up my car with their tow truck in 15 minutes. The work was completed by noon! When I picked up the car, the shop was filled with work and they were very busy, so I know it couldn't have been easy to fit me in. Jim's did a great job on my Jeep, and I'll be bringing it in to them for future work and referring my friends and family. My son's BMW broke down on I-90 and he had it towed to Jim's unfortunately. They said that the coolant was leaking and "fixed" the issue. A few days later it broke down again. Once again my son brought the car back to Jim's and they said they had fixed the issue. Well, it broke down again. I told my son they are ripping you off. We took it to my neighbor who is a certified BMW mechanic and he said the idiots should've known that it needed a new thermostat and it wasn't even leaking from the place that they had "fixed". He also stated that any mechanic worth a salt would've known this via normal procedures. Anyways, don't take your car here. They will take your money and you'll be stranded on the highway after a long day of work. read more

Our power steering pump (or so I thought) was leaking. Called a few places after Jim's was closed yesterday. These companies quoted replacing the pump. When Bob at Jim's quoted it, he also mentioned that it might not be the pump and that our car was known for leaky hoses and valves. Bob called 2 hours after we dropped the car off to inform me that the pump was fine and that the problem was a valve and cut the estimate in half! How refreshing! Most places that I have been to try to add work to be done. Not only did Bob not do that, he was truthful and saved us a bunch of money. Thank you to Bob and his son for doing the work so quickly and for their honesty that is not often found in the auto repair business. Thanks again guys! read more

This is a place you can feel safe and protected. I was moving back home from MI to MN and crashed my car at 75 mph into the median wall. The car was so mangled and not only did they get me back on the re the next afternoon, they also took me for a test drive to make sure I felt comfortable and taught me how to steer without power steering. I asked then to put 4 new tires on and he just kept saying he was looking for a used one. Well when I got home-my insurance filed it a complete loss-and I would have been out those tires. They could have taken the job and money but they did exactly what I needed to get home. I was scared, stranded, and needed help and they felt like family. I may move to Elgin just to be near such an honest, wonderful, hard working and smart group of people. They save lives in their own little way, one automotive job at a time and if you need anything-please make the efforts if near to even get your oil changed. Businesses like this are few and extremely far between and I can literally not express in words the gratitude I feel. Thank you read more

Just wanted to give a BIG shout out to www.jimstowingandautomotive.com/ . Took my car to firestone and they tried to rip me off saying I needed "front" struts, and they even wanted to charge me an outrageous price. Not wanting to go back to that specific firestone, I went to one closer to where I lived, I told them what the other firestone said, and they were just going to do the work without question. After a verbal altercation with an employee, and a horrible quote, I decided to go elsewhere. I found Jim's Auto. They told me it wasn't my fronts that needed done, and it was indeed the rear struts. They took care of it in less than 2 hours, and even showed me how bad the old struts were. The price was more than fair. The people here were friendly as could be. Knowing what little I do know about cars, I definitely would trust this place to work on my car. Great guys was stuck in the middle of an intersection with my E350 work van they had a tow truck out to me within 15 minutes of calling them. Great work! I called a few places inquiring about pricing on my 2004 Volvo XC90.. 1000 here, 1400 there. I called Jims Towing & Automotive and they gave me the best price. I was told numerous times that I would need programming for the part I needed and it would cost me 200 dollars alone. They were completely honest and told me that I didn't need programming if I used to same exact part. The price came out to exactly what I was quoted. Thank you guys!!!
