Still have not received an apology from Dominick for the way he had treated my mother and myself for mistakes he made. We still haven't received an apology for calling us names. I haven't received an apology for his negligence to hear either of us out and completely talking over us. There was no apology for antagonizing me into a screaming match due to the excessive talking over. I would be more than happy to update my reviews if he takes accountability for his mistakes and refunds my elderly mother on the money he forced her to pay for a tow that we had not asked for. He lied to 4 about this situation. His behavior was completely unacceptable and unwarranted. I highly recommend to not do business with him unless you want to be verbally abused. After my grandson's car broke down and thinking it was the transmission, I called a few places. The car, after a 5 1/2 hour wait for a tow truck, was brought to my home and parked on the street. The driveway was just sealed so the car had to remain on the street. The police told me the car could not be left on the street and had to be moved. Well, I tried to baby the clutch in my 2005 Pontiac Vibe GT to try and get 100k miles out of it. I made it to 98,000 and decided it was time. I seriously researched about 20 or so local shops, and did some deep digging. There seem to be a few quality shops, and a lot where they started out OK, gave me a baseline quote for my clutch work, and then started adding stuff over the phone. I went to a few different places that made my list just to see. The only shop that didn't try to up-sell something was A Affordable Transmission. I dealt with Dominick 100%, because a lot of you said him or John were the man. Dom was awesome, straight forward with me. I gave him every opportunity to replace the flywheel if needed. He didn't even try to up-sell me on it, he turned it and said it was fine. I got so used to driving a bad clutch, that when backing out of the parking lot there, I stalled it. Then at a light, stalled it again. All I could do was laugh at myself. I have a friend who complained she couldn't drive my car because the clutch was hard as hell to push in (that never bothered me, I kind of liked it honestly). Now, it is how it should be & she was amazed. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing though now that I think about it. Anways, if you are one of those who think I am a paid shill who was given a deep discount or something for this review because you didn't get your way, sorry, but last I checked there are no doctors in the area that AAT is at that can help you. THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST. Don't even consider taking your car anyplace else. I was struggling with my 1999 Ford Expedition which was leaking some oil fluid of some sort. My adventure in getting it fixed started with PepBoys on Barrington Road in Schaumburg where I was told after 5 days of waiting without my truck that the differential was leaking and needed to be replaced; in over $700 of repairs later my truck was only in my garage for only 1 day when I was soaking up oil again from my garage floor. Frustrated as all Hell I went back to PepBoys who told me it was a transmission leak and they do not do transmissions and no restitution for the repairs that did nothing. In desperation I searched for a trans place on-line and came across A Affordable Transmission on Wise Road in Schaumburg. By the grace of God I was helped by Dominick Ricco. I have to say I have never had such a forthright honest experience in any capacity with respect to auto service. Dominick actually took my wife and I in back, lifted the truck and explained that there seemed to be a small seal leak from the engine compartment. He suggested a repair shop that he has faith in, thanked us for coming in and sent us on our way with no cost for even evaluating the situation. Let me start off by saying a huge thank you to Dominic and the entire crew at affordable transmission. I don't write reviews very often unless the experience was beyond stellar. Which in this case was a understatement ! I came in unannounced and without calling because I was in the area. Was greeted by Dominic, very helpful, friendly and willing to answer any and all questions I had about what the issue I was having and what they recommended to get it fixed. My truck is my baby, I will try to do 99% of the work myself because I can't afford to be paying someone to work on my truck when I'm fully capable of doing most things, just how I was brought up. With that said there are things that are just beyond the capability of the average shade tree mechanic like myself. Transmissions are one of them. I told Dominic what my trouble codes were. I have the ability to read and delete my "engine light" codes and causes. Dominic knew exactly what the codes were and what was likely the cause. That alone showed me one huge thing in my opinion,and that was he knew what he was talking about. I did my research and found out what the codes mean and what all the possible causes were. Dominic confirmed my fears and I was advised that they would look into the trans issue but in his experience a full rebuild would more than likely be needed. Ohhh sh$&. Here comes the price that would likely send me running for he hills! Well to my surprise the price was more than reasonable for a full and complete rebuild! and they do offer financing through a company they work with, but make sure if at all possible to either pay cash or put it on a credit card because the interest rate with the financing company they use is a little high, but if that's your only option to get you back on the road it's worth it. I even asked about upgrading parts which I know will cost more and I would say most places would say ohh yeah spend more with us, not the case here, I asked about a bigger trans pan that I wanted and was advised that what I had was more than sufficient and if it was his truck he would just keep it they way it is stock because it's designed to do what it does. Really impressed he didn't try to up sell me something I didn't need! So I talked it over with the boss and decided to go ahead with the rebuild. I plan on passing this truck down to my son and want it to last. I dropped it off on a holiday weekend and was told it would be done in 3-5 business days. Well as promised it was done on time and ready to roll. They told me when I dropped it off, and when I asked if I need to make a deposit for the work they said without hesitation " if we can't fix it you don't pay for it". Makes me feel like they are really good and confident at what they do and have the knowledge to tackle any job! So now for the real test, I moved my 38 foot 12,000 LB camper 350 miles to Indiana 4 days after I got it back. Truck drove like a dream! Pulled like it was designed to. My trans temp never climbed over the 170's which of you don't know is the major killer or trans parts! Heat is the enemy! My miles per gallon was better than ever and I never once had a check engine light come on. The truck pulled the camper like it wasn't even there. It's back to the way it's supposed to be! I can't say enough good things about the team at affordable transmission. If your in need of trans work which in my opinion is best left to the experts, stop by and get a quote. If your like me and picky about leaving your "baby" with a mechanic trust me when I say this. You will not be disappointed! As with any business you will always have some people who are.... just unrealistic with their demands, never happy with the outcome no matter what it is, even if it's a good experience and everything went better than expected. They people at affordable trans do top notch grade A work and at a fraction of the price of what the stealership would do it for. Support all local small business because they are who in my opinion do the best work. I've worked with a lot of mechanics, and you can always tell how good a mechanic is by what they tell you after the job is done. Good mechanics will give you a run-down of what they found, what they fixed. Great mechanics will answer your questions, and possibly tell you a few extra things they noticed about your car along the way. Dominick and his guys are EXCELLENT mechanics. They cover all the bases, go above and beyond with communication, and make sure you get the job done right at the best price. On top of that, they are all really nice guys. So let me first start by saying I have not spent a dime here yet. I had a funky problem with my 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. Being a back yard mechanic I came to the conclussion that it was either the transmission or some funky computer problem. Both issues I am not equipped to handle. I called Aafordable on a saterday morning and set an appointment for 11AM the same morning. I was set on getting my trans flushed and inspected so I could rule it out as a possibliity. Upon arrival one of the techs came with me on test drive. He deduced thast the trans sounded good and needed no work. I ask him for a trans service anyway, but he told me I'd be wasting my money. What a relief to have a honest tech to look at my car. They could have easily preformed unnecessary work and I would be none the wiser. It turned out I had a clogged catilitic convertor but that's another YELP all together. I very rarely write reviews, but felt that one was warranted here regarding the service I received from Dominic at Affordable Transmission Specialists. Prior to bringing my Volvo for Dominic to look at, all signs pointed at a Transmission Rebuild. There was major shudder, and erratic RPM performance issues. The Vovlo dealer said it need a transmission software update ($200). It did not fix the problem. They then said that since the update did not take care of the transmission symptoms, I would need a rebuild. I took it to Dominic for a second opinion. The price he quoted for a rebuild was very reasonable, and he indicated that he would actually rebuild my existing trans instead of sourcing a used or a rebuilt from a third party. I liked this idea a lot, in that he would get to the root cause, repair accordingly and stand behind his work. This felt much better than relying on a third party to provide the transmission. Anyway, he diagnosed the issue before ripping anything apart and as it turns out, he discovered it was actually an ignition misfire issue. I just replaced an ignition coil myself ($70), and all the symptoms that the dealer said were transmission related went away. This speaks volumes to Dominic's integrity, honesty and understanding of a value system that should foster a long term successful business with repeat customers. There is no doubt that I will utilize his transmission services if I actually ever do need them. My daughters 1999 Toyota Corrolla would not start in Park (would not engage properly) unless I pushed the release button that is under the tab on console and reshifted into nuetral or back to park. Car would also roll back if parked on hill (not engaged in Park). I didn't want to spend more on repairs than what it is worth, I made appointment with A Affordable after reading reviews. They took me right in and I met Dominick Riccio who put it on the lift while I went to breakfast. I returned in 45 minutes and Domick showed me the Sticking cable that he lubed for me and that the linkage was pretty rusted and if it broke when they removed it they would have to access the transmission which would incur further cost. At the moment he has it working properly after lubing cable and linkage. I feel safe to let my daughter take it back into city. He also informed me that eventually I may have to proceed further with repairs if it the problem returns and replace cable and linkage inside transmission. Dominick would accept no fees for his time and effort. If this problem comes back I will definetly take the car to them for repair. Figured I wait to write this review till driving around a bit after the repairs. I am very happy I found Affordable Trans. Here is my short story. After being frustrated dealing with a different trans shop who was trying to upgrade their original quote to get this work done on my vehicle, I walked into Affordable Transmissions worried. At the time I've been driving around with an expired registration because I couldn't pass the emissions test. The moment I walked into Affordable, I was greeted by Dominick right away with a smile. Explained to him what was happening and he not only was honest but confident his team could help me. The price he quoted was the price I paid. No BS! He saved me about $750 from what the original shop was charging me. ($2150) My car took longer than expected so, Dominick offered to pay for a rental car till my car was ready. I did not take him up on it but, just for him to offer that was nice of him. After my car was done I DID have to drive my car more to "GET READY" my emissions monitors. In the end after driving it around a couple days I was able to pass my test and get my sticker. I searched reviews before I selected a trans repair shop for my 2000 Ford Taurus. Affordable Transmission appeared to be highly recommended not only for their work but, for their affordability and honesty. I was not let down. Dominick was patient and reassuring. He was so nice and helpful. Recently, my trans was not shifting from 1st to second unless I warmed it up for 15 or 20 minutes. I called Dominick and he told me to bring it in right away. He told me it's under warranty, don't worry we'll take care of it. No run around. So many places try to back out of their promises to the consumer once the work is done. Dominick is a knowledgeable, positive person eager to help you. I wouldn't go any where else. Though there are plenty of repair shops closer Affordable Trans is worth the drive from Elmhurst for me. "WARNING Customer WARNING" please Beware" their 5 star review is a SCAM....it should be Zero star.... at A Affordable Transmission shop, hear my story, I spoke to Dominick and he gave me a price quote to repair my car which cost me parts and labor $800. I found out after the repair that I could have had my repair done with parts and labor for $650 from another Trans shop. I was over charged $150. Secondly when I pick up my car and drove to work, I decided to check my trans fluid and discovered it was over filled by half a quart of trans fluid, I call Dominick to express how upset I was and that I paid good money to have work done professionally by trans repair guys and he told me it doesn't matter if it was over filled its o.k. WHAT??????? Toyota just like every car maker has a dip stick to let you know not to over fill or if its low on fluid that's why it was design for to protect the transmission, I was shock and speechless when he told me that. This guy Dominick is a Trans repair guy, this is basic 101 beginners who do this job never to over fill, because you can damaged the transmission but Dominick argued with me and told me I should apologize cause I was wrong even after I told him I took a picture to prove it, he didn't want to hear it. I called other transmission shop and the guys LAUGHED so hard they were speechless too at Dominick response that if it's over fill it doesn't matter what a joke. Please call other Trans shop in the area, customers stay away you will be sorry later.
