They specialize in the food of the Wuhan province which of course has been made famous recently. They do a great job of it and it's very popular with those that know about it. I can't believe I just discovered this gem specialty shop recently when I went to Chinatown to get my hair cut and the stylist introduced it to me. They have a bunch of different items to choose from in their signature wuhan spicy braise and even a hot food menu. It's an explosion of spicy and numbing flavors in the mouth and SO ADDICTING! Perfect snacking food for solo Netflix binging with a cold beer. (Yes, this is exactly how I have been quarantining ;)) Not everything on the menu is spicy though so just ask the employees there if you want something more mild. They're super friendly and helpful. My favorites are the duck wings and the intestines. Some of the other body parts (ex duck neck) just have too many bones to pick through for my liking, but it's a personal preference. Just remember if you're cilantro averse to tell them that beforehand because they will add it to the intestines. read more

This place is small and a bit dingy looking but the meat is pretty good! The duck necks were very flavorful and I loved their 藕夹 (lotus root with pork) and 豆皮 (sticky rice thing). The lotus and sticky rice items were a pleasant surprise since so few places sell them. The lotus root is greatly improved by either air frying, baking, or pan frying at home; they taste great but the breading is a bit flabby and not crisp. We also got fish which was good. Best Wuhan food period. I have been to lots of places tryin all Wuhanese and Hubei restaurants including those in Cupertino and LA. No one beats this. I talked to the staff, apparently they customized their noodle from the supplier, which is the key to the authenticity. Their Hot Dry Noodle is what you will get in Wuhan. Ever since I got attracted by malatang at the new Yummy Kitchen and Mala Sichuan, I became a fan of this tingling sensation - numbing spiciness 麻辣 on my lips. I would like to name Metropole Center as Houston Spicy Central. It was funny how I discovered Jing 5. Few weeks ago, I was gonna just stop by to check out the prices at Healing Foot next door. Then, I saw the new decor at where Tea Dot Cafe used to be. I walked in. Wow, that unique aroma stopped me from leaving. They were cooking braised duck parts, 滷鴨翅 (duck wings) to be precise. I sat and chatted with the operator/manager, Mr. Wang, who created Jingwu Ducks in Hubei (a province in central China, north of Hunan). The unique flavor made it so popular and it expanded to 200+ restaurants in China. Wang's family decided to explore overseas and they landed in Houston. Besides braised poultry, they brought beef noodles with them from Hubei. There are 2 types: regular noodles and gluten-free rice noodles in their famous soup base. One thing thing different to the traditional Jingwu store is boba tea. They bought formulas from a bubble tea source in Taiwan. That's a cool way to chill the numbing lips from the spiciness of duck wings. Then, there is a story about the name. Jingwu Jie 精武街 is the street name of its first store. They transformed Wu as phonetic of five in Chinese. It became Jing5. Very clever, huh? So, don't ask them where is the 1, 2, 3, 4. Cuz, there's none. They have limited seating so we opted to get a to go order of spicy chicken feet and duck feet. They were both delicious. I will return to this establishment in the future to try more foods that I don't usually eat. read more

Being a houston native, I haven't see a place like jing 5 (精武鴨脖) in Chinatown and I'm stoked! This place is famous for their braised meats and veggies (滷味) of all kinds. The owners have a secret recipe from the original store in Wuhan, China so the taste is authentic and ridiculously good! If you don't know what that is, it's great for snacking while drinking, ktv, or watching a movie/game with friends. They also have legit beef noodle soup that's only $6.95 and authentic dry noodles (正宗熱乾麵) for $4.95. If you like spicy, make sure to tell them. I personally loved the noodles and braised lotus roots, duck tongue, duck neck, peanuts, and tofu. Highly recommended, a lot of people come in and do take out so they are actually sold out quite often. Might want to call ahead if you want something in particular! read more

Duck wings and duck necks were on the menu at this place for a starter for a Chinatown food crawl. The flavors where amazing, this really neat herbal spice that makes your lips numb. The necks were spicier than the wings, but also harder to eat. While I really enjoyed the flavors, the work involved in eating around the bones was meh. I got the duck wings which were spicy but the good kind of spice with really good flavor, and the Nagasaki Milk Tea which i actually really liked! Let's just say you should never get boba here... - The ladies, while they were very nice, seemed to be a bit caught off guard when I ordered a Taro smoothie - even though it prominently placed on their menu with pictures. - The taro powder was kept under the counter away from the blender - which seemed a bit odd. Again, probably tells me they rarely make the drink... - The drink tasted awful, hardly sweetened, watered down (not a smoothie at all) - barely drinkable - My friend who got the watermelon strawberry smoothie had a somewhat better experience rated his drink a 3.5.
