It's a Saturday and the day before my anniversary with my boyfriend so a mani / pedi felt like an extra special treat. I had heard very good reviews about Jinsoon from current and past beauty editors so I decided to give it a shot. I went to the WV location and immediately loved how cozy and quiet the space was. The wall filled with different nail colors was super chic and each Jinsoon bottle had two bottles of each color. Other brands were towards the back in a variety of colors as well. Walking in I had to fill out a Covid-19 consent form and sanitize my hands . I was asked if it was okay if I had my mani / pedi at the same time and I agreed to that. In general the idea itself was excellent but the set up was not so comfortable and to be honest this was not worth the money. Towards the back is where you have your pedicures. If you're pregnant or disabled this area is not going to work for you. Reason being is because it's a deep step up to your seat that has no railing and the seat is padded with cushions that offer no real support and have seen better days. Since I had the mani and pedi at the same time i had to rest my left hand on a Bounty paper towel roll with a towel on top and lean across for my right hand. I had come in for the rose petal mani / pedi with a hand and foot massage and let me tell you this felt like I sacrificed my comfort to accommodate their initial request. Half way through the mani I was starting to feel very sore and uncomfortable on my side. I didn't say anything by choice and just knew right away this was a one done deal since I've had mani / pedis done at the same time elsewhere and never felt any physical discomfort. When it was time for my left hand to get worked on, they offered a bowl with rose petals in it and placed it in my lap gently. Though the touch was gentle it was incredible how I was expected to balance this the whole time. (I ended up placing the bowl right next to me). The massages themselves were just okay but I appreciated how each person took their time doing their work along with offering a small bowl for my delicate bracelets. I personally thought my nails turned out great (despite getting accidentally nicked and being casually taken care of) and only time will tell how long they'll last based on older reviews (this polish claims it's chip proof finish..). I essentially came in here with high expectations only to have them shattered and PS, this clearly does not align with Jin's vision of elegant simplicity so unfortunately I'd reco going to spend your money elsewhere. read more

I received a gift certificate and used it on 2/24/18 The ambiance of the salon was nice. Very quiet. A small space, but being that I had an appointment there was no wait. While the experience was relaxing, the manicure was extremely disappointing. You can clearly se (from my photo below) that the polish was sloppily applied. The difference in coats is clearly visible from the lines on the side of each nail. $20 for a manicure is not awful, however, In nyc there are lent of cheaper options and I'd expect a nicer job from a salon of this standard. I really enjoy the jin soon brand. I have gone to 2 different locations so far and the set up was the same. I had first discovered Jin soon because I was looking into dry pedicures. On my first visit there, the pedicure did still involve water but it wasn't a lot of water. I'm sure it probably was not a dry pedicure but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The foot massage that is accompanied when they moisturizer like is amazing. The prices are comparable to many of the salons I've visited for pedicure. I feel like I will be a consistent customer of Jinsoon and hopefully the level of service either gets better or stays the same. read more

Came in for nail art and gel removal on only two nails in Sept 2018. The manicurist I got was very nice but it was super clear that she had minimal experience doing nail art, as well as some language barriers. After someone explained to her that I only needed gel removal on two nails, she nodded and continued to buff down my NATURAL nails before I alerted her to stop. She understood after my reaction what she was supposed to do. She had the design I wanted as a reference but kept doing something sooooo so off. She kept getting confused at me pointing out the difference. Kept removing and redoing the wrong thing. The manicurist doing my friend's nails kept trying to explain what she was doing wrong (I think - they were speaking another language), until finally they swapped. The second woman did a much better job. But it was such a long ordeal, but stressful, and probably the worst nail art experience I've had. read more

I've been coming to Jin Soon for over 10 years, and the service is always friendly, consistent, and professional. I work in the fashion industry, which is notoriously fickle, and everyone agrees that Jin Soon is the best in class for hand foot treatments. And they have every polish under the sun, including those from luxury brands like Chanel and NARS. I also really like their branded polishes. This location is rather small however. The pedicure set up is definitely not ideal for anyone pregnant or otherwise less mobile. The Tribeca location is newer and much more spacious. Very disappointing. My friend and I were planning to indulge on one of their pampering pedicures which, according to the site, lasts 45 minutes and cost around $40. From the minute we sat we felt like they wanted us to leave, the entire thing took 20 minutes and was super lazy! This does not even come close to what they promise in their menus. This is actually one of the worst mani-pedis I've ever gotten and I used to go to a place on the UES that had green tinted lights and 15 colors to choose from back in the day. Pedicure: It's just plain lazy. Got a 1 minute massage. Light foot scrub, as in, I get pedicures every 4 weeks and I still have dry skin after getting the "scrub." Other reviews say this is basically a lazy polish application and not much else and they are not kidding. 2/5 stars, not counting the cost. Manicure: Holy crow this was terrible. Like, real bad. I admit, I have short stubby nails. Ain't no shame in my lack of growth game. But I've also been to roughly 20 nail salons that have had no issue providing a great manicure. My manicurist literally refused to file 3 of them and missed 3 hangnails. I pointed out the hangnails and she looked at it, said it was fine, and proceeded about her day. And the polish? I used to come here because it was a step up -- price wise and service wise -- from the cheapie/quickie and chain mani salons here in NYC. I stopped coming after 8 years of loyalty because I found the quality of their service and polish was steadily declining. I decided to come back last week to give them another chance and was soundly reminded of why I don't come here anymore. Service: they still remember me and I love the teas they have here. The selection of polish brands is higher end than your typical quick salon. For 3x the quickie mani price and 2x the chain mani price, you want to feel like you're getting something extra. The polishes: yes, so while there's still the same assortment of high ends brands, they seem to be the SAME bottles of said polishes! Many of the polishes have dried out, been reconstituted and thinned so many times that the quality of the polish is deplorable. There are actually still bottles here from when I first started coming here (signature dings and scratches make them recognizable). The polish was already almost dried out 8 years ago and is now thinned to a useless dribble. Gross. I would expect that they can at least keep their own line of Jin soon polishes in a decent state of freshness, but -- ugh -- they too were as dried out or thinned out as the other stuff. The mani: I usually get the balm of purity: the warm location and towel wrap is always nice for moisturizing my super dry skin. However, the actual shaping of my nails was mediocre at best. She, my tech, didn't even bother to buff the one nail that had a visibly shredding/peeling tip. It meant that the mani on that finger lasted less than 24 hrs. I don't expect good shaping from a cheapie salon, but I was with one of the seasoned veteran techs here at Jin soon -- where they (used to) pride themselves on nice nail shapes!! The paint job: worse than a cheapie salon. The polish was so thinned out that it was really sheer and streaky (I know because I've been using this color for years and I even own a bottle). Worst of all: my tech did not keep her station all that tidy. As she was putting on the topcoat, she knocked a wad of used paper towel onto one of my fingers, smearing all the polish. Instead of cleaning off that nail and redoing it, she plonked on another layer of topcoat which did NOTHING to smooth out the smudge nor cover it up. Really?!? That was so unprofessional and I hated to have to ask her to fix it. She should have fixed it without being asked. Seriously. Bottom line: Sorry and goodbye, Jin Soon. I'm not happy to have to resort to paying 2x your prices for a decent manicure at a well reputed salon with a ridiculously boring polish selection, but you have not upheld any of the standards that you originally opened your salons with. Come here for a mediocre pedicure. I like that they take appointments but for such poor results, I would have preferred to pay $15 less at a walk-in salon. The water in my basin was cold and dirty. The nail filing was uneven. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because the foot scrub was good. But there's no reason to pay $35 for a good scrub but bad filing and polish. The staff also isn't friendly or helpful. I had to tell them I needed to leave, got cuticle oil myself, etc and the staff member asked for a tip before I was done paying. Tacky! I have been to a jin soon at least 20-25 times. I used to work next to the ues location, and I live right in between the east and west village locations. I'm done trying this place, I almost feel like the idiot because how many times do you give a place a chance. It's just hard to find a decent clean mani/pedi place in this city. And no the neighborhood equivalent of a nail bathhouse is not clean or in any way humane. 1) you have to make an appointment, sure that's fine but try to call them and they are so abrasive on the phone that I would rather deal with a medical bill than call to make an appointment with them 2) you get there, you might have to wait and you are always in the way Till they seat you because it's so small ALL LOCATIONS 3) then you think I'm paying a decent amount for a mani and pedi, I can relax, this is suppose to be relaxing but no, either the technicians are talking about you and laughing at you or rushing you 4) then enjoy drying by the door which will open and let in a draft It's sad that ny is considered one of the greatest cities in the world and you can't expect a decent mani pedi, but the state of he industry is why places like Jin soon that are just relatively clean but offer no customer service or comfort are popular. I started coming here because they were one of the few "ethical" salons that I found after that scary series of NYT articles. PROS: -- online appointments. -- a very few (NOT all) manicurists do a lovely long lasting job. CONS: -- surly front desk staff, rude on phone, rude on person. -- they don't let you request a specific manicurist. WTF! -- most manicurists' work doesn't last even close to a week. -- at least two of the manicurists used their BARE fingernails to "clean up" their messy work. (1) GROSS! (2) On almost every fkn nail. ROUGHLY. I was surprised not to be bleeding. (3) How about do it right in the first place! Even the worst salons I've been to haven't been so imprecise by a long shot. In NYC, manicures are a dime a dozen. What makes Jin Soon (west village location) the best is the quality of service you get for the price. A regular mani is $18 and it is seriously done with love.... sweet, soft spoken ladies. LOADS of colors and brands to choose from... they may not always offer you tea (because the place can get really busy, it's small!) but you can always just ask for a tea and the green tea is really yummy. The ladies work really hard... but they are very gentle & extremely detail- oriented. Noone will hack at your cuticles. This is a stylish little local place. Nothing fancy. Excellent mani- pedis. This place made me feel like I was taking crazy pills, and reading these reviews definitely confirm that I was. I came her on a recommendation from a reputable source. I said: where is a good place to get a manicure around here. She said: oh my god, Jin Soon is the best; it's kind of expensive but totally worth it because it's a special manicure and they serve you tea. Me: great that's just what I'm looking for right now. When I arrived, I was surprised by the space. I was expecting something fancy to go with my fancy manicure, but there was nothing unusual about it other than the fact that it was tiny... awkwardly so, and there wasn't anything special about it. I asked for a manicure, and I was handed a menu. 7 different types of manicures, ranging in price from $18-$35. Each manicure included a paragraph long description including talk of massages, and different types of herb infused lotions and oils, and other wonderful things. I selected a mid-range manicure for $24, and I was very excited for my special manicure. I picked my polish. Not a huge selection, but they did have some higher end brands besides essie, which I am not at all interested in because essie is the best. Sat down, and my manicure began. I was practically giddy with anticipation for my special manicure. IT NEVER CAME. Cuticle oil, filing, buffing, short hand massage, polish, OVER. 15 minutes, and not one thing unusual about this manicure. oh and THERE WAS NO TEA! It was a great looking manicure for $24 with absolutely nothing special about it. But this lady was incredibly rough with the pedicure, made me bleed (first time its ever happened to me) and then the nail polish was applied so unevenly....her hand was not steady at all - and you can always tell if they're good manicurists if they can apply your polish without going along the sides of your nails to wipe away where they couldn't paint it straight. NO. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before coming here. I'm VERY picky and (legitimately) OCD about my nails and getting them done. I was on a trip to NYC from LA and googled the best nail salons in New York. Jin Soon was listed as one of them so I made an appointment. BIG MISTAKE. It was literally one of the WORST mani-pedis I've EVER had. The unkempt appearance of it was nothing to the terrible service I received. I had gel polish on when I came in that needed to be taken off. The woman put the cotton with remover on, let it soak for a very short amount of time, and then started trying to remove the nail polish. It was incredibly clear that she hadn't let them soak long enough. Instead of letting them soak longer, she started SCRAPING OFF the polish, which is terrible for the nail, and painful for me! In terms of my hands, I had to watch the manicurist's every move to make sure she was covering the whole nail in polish. She would leave huge gaps on the sides of the nail and I'd have to ask her to go back and polish the entire nail. I spent the whole time panicked and tense. When I left the woman at the front asked how it went. I told her it was the worst manicure I ever had and told her why. She asked if I'd like to come back another time to have it fixed. NO. Hum...For being identified as one of the top 10 nail salons in NYC I found it to be dirty, unprofessional and rundown are words that come to mind. I came in because normal place was closed. I brought a friend who was getting their gel nails off...they may have overbooked-after getting situated in the nail chair they were asked to move with the foils on their fingers and bonus these ginormous plastic bags on the hands and was asked to move to the very tiny and unprofessional waiting area. They were embarrassed and annoyed. They the nail tech finally gets my friend into a chair and start the manicure-but the pedicure she did prior to my friends must have smudged the polish...because the nail tech fixed the other clients toenail (and touching her feet) just came back to my friends without washing or sanitizing her hands-gross- The area where they do your nails is filthy and very cramped- Gel nail colours are limited-they only do CND and for regular polishes they have some Chanel (limited colours), Essie, their own brand, and NARS. The nail salon looked chipped, faded and in some areas like their drawer of implements-just look filthy- They need a little overhaul The girl who did my nails barely spoke English (it was the longest and most boring nail appointment ever-the nail tech and I were just staring at each other) and during my manicure she was kind of scattered-she used her own fingernail dipped in nail polish remover to clean up around my nail...they have a tool called and orange wood stick. I've never been so dissatisfied by a manicure/pedicure in such a long time. First off, the basic mani/pedi took nearly two hours before they kicked me out because they were closing. Somehow the nails had barely dried in the 30+ minutes they kept me under the dryer, and by the time I got home, they had all bubbled. Based on the ridiculously thick, gloopy coats the girl put on, I'm surprised they haven't already chipped (but the polish formula is pretty chip-free!). They use these ancient polish dryers, but have no dedicated space for them -- or really, no space at all -- so there were girls sitting in the corner with a polish dryer ON THEIR LAPS. I'm not paying JinSoon prices for that, when I can go to a cheap salon and sit at a dedicated drying station that actually works. They kept telling everyone that they weren't dry yet, so girls were sitting upwards of 30 minutes in these cramped positions. The whole place is cramped, especially the uncomfortable pedicure station. The place also seems like it isn't the cleanest. And the technician was not attentive or even that nice. Honestly, I get far superior treatment at QQ for half the price and a fraction of the time. Forget about the comparably priced tenoverten -- that place just blows this out of the water in terms of quality of work, ambiance, and customer service. The pros: great tea, great arm and leg massages with even the basic mani/pedi, and I did like the essential oils. I have no complaints about my pedicure, just the atrocious manicure. Also: their polish selection really is incredible. Tons of brands and options. I went to JinSoon because I LOVE their polishes (love love love) and it seemed like a cute, stylish spot. I wasn't expecting a dingy, uncomfortable spot, with dated equipment, a subpar service with a decently high price and my nails to be damaged 12 hours later. I visited Jin Soon Natural Hand & Foot Spa with my fiance this past Friday 7/11/2014 for a 5:45pm appointment. We arrived early and waited outside as the salon looked a bit small to wait 15 minutes for our appointment. Alas, when we entered at 5:42pm, we still had to wait 15 - 20 minutes for our appointment to begin. When one manicure table opened up, a 5:45pm that arrived after us was seated first. Moving past the late start, for our first manicure, the experience was a novelty. We chose the Spirit of the Beehive manicure ($35) which included a scrub, massage, several conditioning and moisturizing lotions and a warm (or rather hot hehe) three-layer paraffin wax. Nails were clipped and filed, conditioned and soaked. I chose the Airy Fairy by Butter London. It is a beautiful shimmering blue color that shows a purple sheen at an angle. The nail polish selection was extensive!!! I may try this lovely shimmering gold color I glimpse. My manicurist, Miyomi (I think, I may be spelling this incorrectly), was diligent and thorough. She did a lovely square nail and an even better polish. She checked and double checked making little adjustments to the cut. Trimmed hanging skin. It is currently Sunday (two days later) and the polish is still perfect. She was great! The portable dryers (which double for use on toenails and fingernails, yuck) on your knees afterwards were a bit cumbersome and not the cleanest looking. They reminded me of those bathroom hand dryers you have to slide your hands down into and almost always touch the sides (defeating the whole purpose) to dry your freshly washed hands. However, unlike other reviews I have read here, my nails dried quite well. I simply kept the line of my fingernails directly in the air stream of the dryer. Afterwards Miyomi placed special drops on the nails as well. I have no chips or smudges and even when I scratch an itch, the nail polish does not bubble or chip at the top as it is wont to do when I do my own nails. Though I probably would have enjoyed reclining while having my nails done as opposed to sitting upright, this is probably a minor complaint which will differ depending on the salon/spa. I imagine a spa dedicated to more than nails. I would come here again. Perhaps not a perfect experience but the end products (nails) were perfect and I would recommend this place to a friend or family member! read more

Ok, this is my regular mani-pedi spot. And I quite like them. So why only three stars? Because there are some things that I really hate about them. But I keep going because it's cozy & I like the way they make my nails look. And there is no place better in the neighborhood that I've found. The place is cute & pleasant (and close to home.) I enjoy the gimmicky essential oil & tea ritual when you start your pedi. They have loads of great colors. And it's very clean & hygenic which is hugely important to me. But I do with the technicians would stop yammering so much. And it's far too expensive for what it is. And holding a nail dryer on your lap because the place is crowded and you're relegated to the bench (which should just be used for waiting) is a bummer. But that being said, the mani-pedi IS better than most places. They don't rush. And at the end of the day, I'll keep it as my regular spot. read more

Love this place! It's a bit more roomy than the East Village location, but still on the small/cozy side. I've had manis and pedis here, and the bowls for pedicures are sinks rather than whirlpools. I love that because I'm not sitting there thinking "Oh God did they clean the filter properly? Am I risking an infection?" I can truly relax here. I strongly recommend that you make a reservation, however. Don't count on being able to walk in and get an appointment, it's definitely not a factory like regular nail salons. read more

I have been coming here with my mother as a bi-monthly treat for over 10 years. The experience here is top notch. The prices are well worth the services, and can even be similar to other cheaper and less nice places. The location itself is beautiful. Located on a quiet street in the West Village, this place is an escape, retreating into a zen paradise. They have outstanding green and citrus tea, and make you feel comfortable and relaxed. It is very small, so the experience can depend on the other clients and if they are very loud or chatty - but the space is comforting and clean. They have a huge variety and assortment of brands and colors but their menu is the real draw. Breath of Milk and Honey is my favorite pedicure. In the cold winter months, you relax into a tub of warm milk while they exfoliate your skin with a honey scrub. What could be better?! No matter what service you get, you will leave here renewed and rejuvenated. read more

It took the manicurist about 70 minutes to do my manicure. The driers are prehistoric and sadly my polish bubbled - on every finger. Jin Soon has an extensive color selection, organized by brand. I just got the most meticulous manipedi of my life here (Dew looks BEAUTIFUL on my hands) and I thought the location, while small, was extremely intimate and serene! However, to echo a lot of other sentiments on here, 2 stars off for the VERY surly staff. I have never seen a more stone faced bunch--every question I asked was met with incredibly terse responses. When selecting my color, many of the jinsoon polish bottles had separated from their caps, so when I picked one up by the cap, the bottle popped off and literally fell on my face before clattering across the floor and disturbing all the guests getting their manis in the front room. At the time I was so embarrassed for making such a disruption and apologized to the staff--they didn't say anything to put me at ease (just responded with a flat "Oh."), took the polish from me, didn't do anything to fix it, and just slapped it back on the shelf! This really annoyed me, especially because the SAME EXACT THING happened to another guest who was browsing the colors after me. Considering the otherwise luxe experience, the staff's attitude was starkly off-putting. Because of this, I may return by myself due to the quality of the manipedi service here, but I would NEVER subject clients or girlfriends to the stern, cold staff. read more

Last time I went to Jin Soon, I was very disappointed by the experience. My end result of my pedicure was excellent. It's been a week and it still looks shiny and fabulous. However, I was incredibly disappointed by the pedicure itself. For $47 you get almost no massage, no hot rocks...pretty much a standard toe polish. Pros: I could walk right in for a mani/pedi on an off-hour (4:30 on Monday), the ambiance was lovely, the woman working with me was very nice and didn't make me feel like I had to chat (I like to just be quiet and relax if I'm at the salon), and my nails look awesome. Cons: the manicure chair wasn't very comfortable, and the woman working with me had a cold and wiped her nose on the back of her hand a few times (using a handkerchief would've been nice) All in all, it was a nice experience, and while I might try a few other spots in the neighborhood before making this my regular pampering destination, I would be happy to return. read more

I went for the milk and honey, although it was very nice and the technician was great, the experience wasn't fully what I was expecting. The Space: - Small, no frills, wooden chairs and small wooden tables. The bathroom is through a backdoor, small and dingy. The Procedure: - Basic manicure. Nails are filed, gel is applied to cuticles, Fingers are dipped in bowl of luke-warm milk. After a quick soak, the technician proceeded to push back, trim cuticles. I liked that she asked me if I wanted to remove them (which I don't do) - Hands and forearms are scrubbed/massaged with a sugar scrub/lotion. This was great! -Hands are mummified with steam towels and cleaned off. - Massage with lotion - Polish application (They have tons of colors!) I decided to go with a Jin Soon Polish. The paint job was clean, precise-no complaints there! -When it was time to dry the technician asked me to sit by the waiting area, placed a magazine on my lap and placed the dryer on my lap. I basically held the dryer in my lap! Not what I was expecting from a nail salon with a famous name. This is my favorite place in the neighborhood to get my mani/pedi's. It's small but really cute. Definitely has a spa feel. I've frequented a few other places in the 'hood (e.g. Think Pink, Janna Salon) but the manicures from Jin Soon irrefutably last the longest. I highly recommend this place. read more

After extensive research I got a Jin Soon gift certificate for my husband as a Father's Day gift - "Spirit of the Beehive" pedicure to be exact. He went to their West Village location and he loved it! I must say I spent DAYS searching all over the internet for a nice and clean place because so many mani/pedi places in NYC are just plain nasty. The search was daunting but it paid off. This place is ultra clean - whatever cannot be sanitized is disposed of. They have a whole sanitizing section on their website so you can read all about it prior to going there. The place is very relaxing and cozy according to my husband. I personally bought the certificate in their UES location and liked it too. If feels great and somewhat special to be in such a small and cozy place as so many places in NYC are jam-packed with people. My husband liked the experience, he was offered a cup of tea and his pedicure lasted for 1 hour - he said it was the best pedicure he has ever gotten by far. He said the staff was friendly and professional. The only minor disadvantage was a bit of a wait time although he had an appointment but he said he would definitely return or recommend the place to his friends as the quality of their service is impeccable. I do not understand the hype. This place was small, old and dirty. The customer service was nonexistent and the experience was not special. The bathroom looks like it is 100 years old. My manicurist's nails were too long and she kept raking them along my legs during my 30 second 'massage' after my pedicure. It is way overpriced and my nails chipped after 2 days. read more

I am a big fan of the basic manicure. I chip my nails so often, I rarely go for a better manicure. However, I will be changing my habits and sticking with the better manicure from now on. The attention to detail, meticulous work, and pleasant atmosphere is worth the extra $10, especially when the polish ends up lasting much better than from a $9 manicure. Jin Soon is the gold standard. If you live by one, you should be making it your regular nail place. I know I would. For now, I will have to settle with appointments whenever I am in town and have time. read more

I have been getting milk/honey pedicures here for YEARS. I have been all over the world and gotten no better pedicure than this one. Sometimes the techs are better than other times. And I agree the place needs a reno. But I still believe in Jin Soon. You should too. read more
