Came here Friday early evening and it was decently packed. Got the spicy chicken ramen along with the spicy tuna tacos and both were delicious. It's great to finally have a Ramen option in Ballston as the next closest place is Hanabi in Clarendon and it's nowhere near as nice. This restaurant is not worth the aggravation. The menu has many options yet the food is average to a bit above average. Service is substandard though and the place is unnecessarily loud with the staff seemingly operating in a bit of chaos. We ordered an appetizer -- which came after the main course...and it was cold. The explanation given by our server was "the kitchen sent it to the wrong table." Really? They do not have any typical condiments on the tables. Over 10 to 15 minutes, we asked four different staff , including our server, for a chili sauce or hot sauce for the ramen dishes and we were brought black pepper. No luck, so we ended up asking the hostess and she brought chili oil. Then we found out why they do not have condiments on the table-- they charge separately for things like chili oil. Who does that? This is a restaurant to be avoided until they get their customer service improved. read more

First of all, I love JINYA :) the ramen is delicious and you can have a relatively healthy meal here. The taste at this location was consistent with the locations at Mosaic and in Bethesda. Only thing is, the ramen is basically noodles with a little bit of chicken. I got 2 extra servings of chicken on the side with the noodles on the side so I could control my portions better. The JINYA buns and ramen are so good. Broccolini and edamame appetizers are good too. My server was super nice. Fast, easy, delicious...I'm super excited about this location since I can go to the gym and have a variety of options afterwards! :) read more

I've been to many Jinya locations in LA, and also Mosaic here in Virginia. Always great service and food. This location in Ballston Commons though has had terrible service several times. Even though the most the tables are occupied, the service is incredibly slow. Tonight they simply forgot half the food we ordered. This isn't the first time. It's sad and just night and day different from the other locations I've been to. read more

I came in on Sunday around noon. The resturant had a few tables and one large table set up for a party. I sat in the bar area at a four top. The hostess was prompt and virtuous. I looked at the menu for a few minutes and made my choices. I hadn't been approached for a drink order, and thought they may have forgotten about me, but just for a minute. Kenza came over to take my drink order and was very pleasant and happy. Ingot the green tea and a water which was brought to my table promptly. In ordered Tonkotsu Original 2010 Port Ramen. I also order the shrimp wonton side. (3 pieces) everything came out quickly, hot and looking delicious. I enjoyed both the ramen and wontons. Not too salty, and just the right amount of noodles. ( you may want to add corn to the ramen as a side for $2.50) Kanza was attentive to my needs and a good server. TY! All and all I had a good experience at JINYA and will come back. I just ordered takeout from Jinya for lunch. I went to the restaurant and ordered the Jinya Chicken Ramen to go. I waited at the restaurant for ~20 minutes for my order to be ready. The total came to $20.03. The portion was TINY (as you can see from the picture). I'm finished and still hungry. It came with only two small pieces of chicken and one had so much fat on it that I couldn't bite through it (you can see a picture of that too). Even though I waited at the restaurant my order was cold. One of the pieces of chicken was so cold that I wondered whether it was frozen (that was the edible piece). Maybe the portions are larger if you're eating in the restaurant, but I do not recommend takeout from here. The only other time I've eaten at a Jinya was about 2 years ago at the DC location and I got food poisoning. I think I'll have to cross Jinya off my list and search for ramen elsewhere. read more

My fiance and I have been to this location several times, and really enjoy it. It's in the basement of Ballston Quarter but still has a nice outdoor area and a clean, modern ambiance. All the servers we've had have been fast and attentive. And perhaps most importantly, the food is consistently great. I am a pescatarian, and really appreciate the significant selection of vegetarian/vegan options (BOTH vegan ramen bowls are excellent, and they offer a number of items, ramen included, with "impossible" meat). The portions are ample and (as I write this) I just finished up leftovers, which were also excellent (the noodles are really good on the second day, when the broth has had a chance to soak in). Earlier today I went to the Jinya at Arlington with a couple of my friends and we were immediately seated at our table. It was a really good experience and our server Jacob did a good job in taking care of our orders and any questions we had. I ordered the Spicy Creamy vegan broth with thin noodles and the flavor was incredibly amazing. You can taste the creamy cauliflower purée in the broth and the thin noodles were pretty amazing too. I usually always order the Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura and it tasted amazing as always. I will definitely will be returning with my family since they too love Ramen!!! read more

My friend and I stopped by here on a Friday evening (~6:30PM), but it was surprisingly not too packed; they were able to seat us immediately. Naomi was our server, and she was super sweet and attentive. I ordered the Tonkotsu Original 2010, and it came out in good time. I loved the noodles, and the egg and chashu were cooked perfectly. The portions were great, and I was barely able to finish. I'm giving 4 stars overall since the broth was a bit salty, and I would not recommend this location as a first date spot. The music was blasting at clubbing volumes, and my friend and I had a difficult time hearing each other. I had downed all my water and essentially lost my voice by the end of the meal by trying to speak over the music. My friend told me that the other locations she's visited were not like this at all. I'd definitely be down to revisit Jinya for the food, but I probably wouldn't return to this specific location because of the ambiance. read more
