Walking in I was depleted, down, un-caffeinated, ready to throw in the towel on the day already! The owner and employee's vibrant smiles and animated greeted as I walked through that door, snapped me out of my fun and back to reality. Their service, their recommendations and accommodations were all on point! I went with what I knew to be safe. The typical sandwich and typical coffee order, nothing bold today- no variables! I'm telling you, as that sandwich was unwrapped, the STEAM coming off of it filled the mid morning sky right in front of my eyes. I knew- oh this wasn't just a sandwich. It was a SANDWICH! The egg- so eloquently scrambled, the cheese so superbly melted, the sausage piping hot, the English muffin? Toasted to -perfection- I could t wait, I didn't even taste the coffee first, I dove right in! As my mouth approached the sandwich, the whiff of the food caught my nose and that was it- game over- my mouth watered before my tongue even caught a taste bud on it! Next thing I know, the sandwich is gone (along with part of the wrapper) and my coffee had still been sitting there, untouched! Such a good experience at this little shop on the corner of Webster and 22nd. I was in desperate need of Tylenol with only Apple Pay. The guy behind the counter said no worries you can pay me later if you don't have cash or don't worry about it. I returned a couple of hours later with money and he told me he's not going to accept the money and that it's on him , don't worry about it. Just the generosity of humanity. The man behind the counter was super friendly and warm, and definitely someone I look forward to greeting again. I have only one minor complaint and that is that the early store hours are not consistent, and it isn't just on Yelp, but onsite as well. I showed up this morning a little before 5:30am and noticed the CLOSED sign was post with a 6am being the posted opening. This is my destination every morning half way to my San Francisco commute. I pull off in Oakland, have a cheese biscuit breakfast sandwich or bagel with eggs, cheese and ham/ sausage and add bacon to it. It's the best with their fantastic organic coffee "Wake up call". It makes my whole day. He also serves the best Falafel, chicken shawarma sandwiches and cold cut fresh daily made sandwiches. I don't stress at the toll booth tron bay bridge as I had a great breakfast and conversed with Mike Issa (the owner) that makes my day with his cheerful, positive attitude. The owner is such a kind and wonderful gentleman. I was working down the street for a week and came in daily for a bagel and iced coffee. Each morning I was greeted with a smile and good conversation. This place is very small but has a great selection of pastries and bagels. The owner (Mike) makes your coffee to order at the counter and always makes sure it's perfect. As an added bonus, there is usually a James Bond Movie playing in the background. I almost feel guilty only giving them 4 stars because the service here is truly unbelievable. So much pure genuine effort to make sure that you leave happy. I really like that they offer nonfat frozen yogurt as well as vanilla ice cream for their shakes and smoothies. I also love that they have a couple dozen flavored syrups for your coffee drinks. I like the outdoor seating. The blended coffee drinks are amazing, but the smoothies are only good, not great (but my BF loves them so that's ok). The coffee isn't the best I've had but it is very good. Those two small details are all that keeps me from a 5 star rating, but in the Bay Area I am spoiled to good coffee and yummy smoothies. Competition is fierce. The funny thing? There may be alot of places near by where I can get a slightly better product, but I'd rather come here. It's simply too hard to trade the fabulous service for a cup of coffee that is really, really good, instead of just really good. I ordered the salami sandwich to-go the other day and for the price, I got a good amount of food. The sandwich included a thick layer of salami and all the ingredients included complimented each other very well! The worker who accommodated me at this shop was also super friendly. I would definitely come here again! My coworkers told me that the mango smoothie here is amazing, so I'll probably give that a try next. Overall a 5/5 experience. Mike the owner is creepy. I stopped going because he wanted to know all my business. I tried being polite, but it got to be a bit much. It seems that he hits on most of his female customers, as for the men, well, he pushes them to buy a BMW, (which he says he can get them a GREAT deal!) from a friend of his. Another reason I stopped going, was if I didn't go for one day or went to another place for coffee or lunch, the next day he's ask where I have been, didn't I like them? what's wrong? etc. etc. Ugh! read more

This is my go-to coffee bar for the morning nonfat latte. I bring my own cup, slap it on the counter, pay and waltz out of there within a minute. Mike and the team are fabulous, friendly, and make a consistently delicious latte. It's the perfect morning habit. It's been about 18 months now, and I hope I never have to go elsewhere. First I'd have to say. I am not an avid coffee drinker. I only drink coffee when I'm struggling to stay awake through the morning. I would say I drink a cup of coffee once every 2-3 weeks, sometimes even longer than that. However, when I do drink coffee, this is my go to coffee shop whenever I am in the office! Although the price similar to other coffee shops, Mike, the owner here is awesome and friendly! The coffee also helps with my sweet tooth because it's the perfect amount of sweetness for me. I've came here so often the past year that Mike always has my order ready just a few secs after walking through his doors. He is always in a good mood and does whatever to make his customers happy. If it was not for his positivity and friendliness, I doubt I'd be drinking coffee and would try to survive with just my water. read more

This place reminds me of the series Cheers, where everybody knows your name. Er, at least Mike and Safaa know (almost) everybody's name (or something about you like where you work or what kind of car you drive). In addition to greeting folks personally, loudly and enthusiastically over the lively tunes playing in the background, Mike and Safaa remember their customers' orders and preferences without having to be told, even after only a few visits. They are consistently warm, even, arguably, "inappropriately friendly," as an earlier Yelp reviewer's co-worker labeled them. In truth, I was initially a bit put off by their super-extroverted manner, but then got accustomed to it. Let's put it this way, I typically stop by a couple times a week. If I miss a week or two, then the next time I come in, I am greeted with concern and a guilt-inducing: "I missed you" from Mike. Whether this makes you feel loved or uneasy, my advice: don't take it personally, as this is just his way. Jitters and Shakes can get very busy close to the hour or half hour in the a.m., when people are hurriedly grabbing their breakfast beverage before reporting to the office. If you are in line at those times, you may find yourself wishing that there was an extra set of hands behind the counter as two bodies often doesn't seem enough to handle the rush. Since I like this place, I say the following with reservations, but feel that it should be noted: My primary concern with Jitters and Shakes is cleanliness related to food handling. On several occasions, I have witnessed the staff transition from routine tasks such as taking out the trash or making change to unabashedly handling breakfast pastries with their bare hands. There seems to be no effort to either use gloves or wash their hands before serving food. As well, when asked for a utensil, it is often handed over with the tines/blade/service side grasped in the staff's hand, as opposed to the handle. (I cringe internally every time I see this behavior.) Having worked in a number of restaurants, I am fully aware of the practices that go on behind the scenes. Usually, though, in the front of the house, where the customer CAN SEE YOU, there's more of an effort to at least give the appearance of safe food handing. Overall, with the exception of the food safety matter, this Jitters and Shakes is a solid choice for a handmade beverage or a nothing-special snack, which will invariably be served up with a large splash of cheer -- whether or not you are in the mood for it. read more

UPDATE 1/22/2016 - Remember how I raved about loving the chicken noodle soup. I went back to get it a few days ago on a rainy cold Oakland day, and when I got back to y office, I found EXTREMELY watered down Campbells chicken noodle soup in my cup. Ot was disgusting. I threw it away. If this place can't be consistent with their food to their consistent customers. Then I feel I cannot be consistent in the rating of a 3 star. Reducing to a 2 star rating. Bring back the homemade chicken noodle soup. And don't ever charge someone $5.00 for a can of watered down campbells soup. What a slap in the face. I will not be back. OLD REVIEW below: I like their Chicken noodle soup and vanilla pound cake slice. They are a little over priced if you ask me, but they are great for a quick bite when you are at the office and just need to grab something and run back to the office. They are a little rude when they talk to you there though. It isn't like they are slammed and they are some super fancy place, so you would think you would get a more humble experience. I always feel uncomfortable walking there and asking for my order. Its like I am being rushed out and they aren't interested in me as a customer at all. its quite annoying.
