I am very pleased this morning as I had extra time before work where I could try out another new coffee shop! Thankfully my map landed me to Jitters because I sure have been missing out. The name itself is so intriguing, but I just wanted to be additional 5 star reviewer for them. The aroma of delicious breakfast items fill the air which complements the coffee I have been sipping on. The staff's greetings were warm and genuine and after that first "Good morning", I felt like I belonged here. The barista sparked up some small talk, but the difference with her was she was actually interested with what I had to say and that is hard to come by nowadays. It was a lovely conversation to begin my day and a lovely place to sit and sip on my coffee. The baristas even know their customers by name and by order, I have witnessed the last three customers being greeted kindly in just that way!! We stopped in here to kill time before Tin Roof opened. It was a gross, rainy day and we wanted to warm up. I had one of the best Hot Chocolates of my life. I added a shot of Peanut Butter Syrup to it and didn't notice it too much. I'd ask for extra Syrup next time, but the Hot Chocolate itself was superb! I forget what my Husband ordered but he was quite happy with it. We split a Cinnamon Bun that seemed a little past its prime but it was still good and the icing was very tasty. Seating is abundant and you can get lost in your own world in the back if it isn't busy. We'd definitely return here over any of the chain coffee shops. read more

I usually stop by Jitters a few times a year for lunch when I am in the mood for a good sandwich. The chain sandwich shops are fine but no comparison with a fresh made Jitters offering! On this trip I tried something new - the Muffuleta sandwich. I have tried this type of sandwich on trips to NOLA and I must admit that the Jitters version did not disappoint. The olive salad was yummy and by the time I walked back to my office the juice from it soaked into the focaccia bread for a tasty bite. Although the price may be expensive to some ($12 for sandwich, chips, fresh baked cookies & Arnold Palmer to wash it all down), the food quality is worth the splurge! The best thing they have here is their Spanakopita. They're excellent, I love the staff they're super friendly.

I work in walking distance of this place and they are miles ahead of any chain coffee place. THEY HAVE OAT MILK!! I can't have regular milk or almond milk, and asked for soy. They told me they didn't have soy milk but they had oat. I was beyond thrilled! I ordered the most delicious oat milk chair latte ever! 100% recommend Jitters to anyone who passes through downtown looking for places to go. read more

I recently had the interesting opportunity to visit Jitters with my wife and 2 friends while waiting for Mojoe's to open for a show. I was pretty beat from the long ride so as the rest of my party went up to order, I decided to relax into one of their comfortable armchairs. Our group was taking a second to figure out what they wanted a few feet from the counter and the first words from the older woman behind the counter were "You all need to come to the counter and order or leave" in a pretty gruff tone. So as the group moved up to order, I stayed in the chair for a bit longer thinking I would order after. This prompted an even ruder "I mean all of you, you can't just sit there, you need to order now" directed at me. So I kind of just laughed to myself at her crankiness and told everyone I would be sitting outside. According to my group, she continued to be pretty unpleasant the whole way through their order, was incensed at my wife for using a debit card and told them to go out and yell at the person parking in front of the coffee shop that they had to move their car. (Parking in this area was 15 minutes and not only for her business). Also included was a rant about how much she hates Mojoe's, which sits across from the coffee shop, and the people that come for shows. As my group came outside with their drinks, I was addressed again with "You in the plaid, you can't buy anything?" I smiled and joked that I could not and was a horrible person because of it, hoping to turn the exchange friendly. After a minute of sitting there she told a member of our group that the chairs outside were for paying customers and I couldn't sit there. My friend replied, "well aren't we ALL customers?" Amazingly, she pointed at me and said "Not him, he didn't buy anything." At this point, I was getting a little annoyed at the constant stream of nasty and told her that fine, I would leave to the incredulous looks of my wife and friends. As we got up and collected our things, we were amazed at how thoroughly negative our experience was with this lady was. Apparently, she heard us as we were walked away and said that she just didn't respect Mojoe's. Oddly enough, the only other two people that had been in there were others waiting for the show as well and, as we found out later, had told her why they were there, yet were treated very nicely. 2 fresh faced college age kids in brightly colored shirts. Me? I am a bit older, with a beard, in dark clothing and visible arm tattoos and my friends both look like rockers (dark clothes, eclectic hair..etc). I get it now. So I turned and told here "I understand, but maybe you should just respect all human beings instead?" I wasn't being sarcastic and angry. I meant it sincerely in hopes that she would understand we weren't bad people even if we weren't her "choice" of people. That is when I was told to "Get the hell out of here you f#*&ing *$&hole." Well, so much for pleasantries... or respect. To top it off the drinks ended up being overpriced, and not that great. More amusingly, a couple had gone in while my group was ordering to get a sandwich and was told "Are you really that hungry because I don't really feel like making any..." I can understand the frustrations of being across from a club but being rude to everyone you have judged unworthy is bad for business. I would think that having a constant stream of potential customers would be good. I would have gladly spent money there if not for the utter rudeness of that woman. Maybe they should change the name to Bitters? read more

Terrible experiences with the owner of this place. She is the most astonishingly rude business owner I have ever encountered. It doesn't matter how friendly and respectful you are, she will find something to yell at you about. It's too bad since it's a nice place and there are no other real coffee houses in the Joliet area. There was the excellent Bean Encounters in Minooka, but they went out of business. It's ridiculous that decent places always go out of business, yet places with horrendous owners like Jitters seem to thrive. Others have commented that they have had pleasant experiences with the staff when the owner is not there. I can only hope that the old woman retires and Jitters can continue with responsible and respectful managers. read more

I love it here! Kind of reminds me of "Central Perk" from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The inside is so quaint and I love how they display art from local artists/photographers etc all over the walls. Normally I always order the Caramel Macchiato and it never disappoints. But last time, I switched it up and got the iced Chai Latte. Oh. My. Gosh. Best Chai Latte I've ever had! I work down the street and all I can say is, I'm going to have to tweak my budget a bit because I am officially addicted. read more

I have eaten here twice and it's a Jem in the Joliet area. It's on chicago Avenue. The sandwiches are made fresh and brought to you at your table. They have an oil on them which is so delicious. Coffee is way above par too and the eat in mugs are huge! Worth the stop. read more

My wife and I didn't have the negative experience with the owner that others had, and we liked our food pretty well also. The inside is pretty nice, and it was very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Italian sandwich, and it was plenty big enough to be a meal in itself, and pretty good. My only complaint was that it had too much oil, and with the kind of meat that the sandwich has, it ended up being too oily and greasy for me. Maybe if she scaled back on the oil, it would be a better sandwich. We didn't have any coffee, so we can't speak to that, but overall, we had a fine experience there. read more

I work in downtown Joliet, but commute from the city. I occasionally need extra coffee, and a walk, when I'm here. This is the only coffee shop in downtown... and I've only gone 3 times, and will not make that mistake again. EVERYTHING is overpriced, the ambiance is Hobby Lobby chic, and the older woman behind the counter is very rude. She only offered me disinterested and short comments and very pushy service. She didn't even bother to look up from some accounting work while I was in their establishment. It was like I was bothering her with my presence - least to mention that no one else was in there. The coffee isn't that great either... but maybe that is the influence of the service talking. Either way, it seemed like my presence really bothered this person. I think I'll just go to Chicken-N-Spice for the 32oz cup of sludge for $1 from here on out. On a positive note, a coworker of mine brought a bunch of people down there for a meeting. They were so thrilled that they have him lots of fruit and asked him to keep bringing people back. read more

Service: the woman behind the counter was not an older lady- her daughter was here as well so I'd say late 20s/early 30s. She was very pleasant and had suggestions for my "day trip" here when I asked. She also brought my food to me. She even asked if I prefer a mug or to-go cup. Food: I had a chai latte that was one of the best I've had. It was a large portion I found to be appropriate to the price. I also had an almond-poppyseed muffin that was moist, flavorful and all-around fantastic. I might stick around for lunch. Atmosphere: Only 4 or 5 people in here on a Friday morning. Pleasant classical on, not too loud or soft. I find the decor absolutely pleasing as well. High ceilings, colored molding, and lots of local art. There are a variety of tables and large comfy chairs and sofas, spaced well so you aren't smashed against a neighbor. I would def recommend Jitters to anyone looking for a soothing stopover. I recently moved to Joliet from Chicago and I was hoping there would be a cool/different coffee shop out here. Of course there is a Starbucks on Jefferson, but I wanted a family owned place that I could go to regularly. My friend introduced me to Jitters and I really fell in love with the place. I always go in the morning and really enjoy the atmosphere. It has comfy furniture and Gina is a great, she knows what I order and is always ready for some conversation. My in-laws live in Lockport. While visiting them from Georgia with my parents, my mother-in-law showed us around Joliet. Downtown was cute and my Dad and I are big coffee lovers so, of course, we thought we HAD to stop into "Jitters" based on the name alone. Also, we all prefer Mom and Pop shops over chains so we made a coffee stop even though we didn't really need or want a coffee. The only good things I can say are: 1. They sell Green Mountain, a great choice of coffee. 2. The young lady who poured us our black coffees was nice. The older lady behind the counter immediately rubbed me the wrong way by barking at us as soon as we walked in, "how many?", "for here or to go?", "together or separate?". ok, there was only 1 other guy in the whole place. I immediately let her know we were all together, it was just 2 coffees to go. I mean, how simple is that order? She didn't greet us, smile or act the least bit friendly, not even professional. I thought something must be wrong with her. I tried extra hard to be nice and normal, despite her gruff and unwelcoming manner. I paid $4 for 2 small black coffees, more expensive than Starbucks! and I had to put up with her rudeness. It only started there, she continued to be crazy and rude. She doesn't even thank me but hands me a $1 that is very visibly ripped in half and barely taped back together. As I started to put it away in my wallet, I noticed this and very nicely asked for a different dollar bill that isn't ripped. Now, I don't know if this is some lame ploy of hers to try to get $1 tips on bad service and overpriced drinks and she assumed I would drop the whole dollar in the big bowl of tips right by her register, but I was preparing to give change from my coin purse. She IGNORED my request and didn't even look up. About 5 seconds later after not getting a response, I calmly said to her, well, I'll switch it with your dollar here in the tip bowl (it is all their money, one way or another she's getting her ripped dollar back). She growls at me, "Don't touch that! Those are our tips!" and smacks her hand over my dollar that I was replacing. This was the most attention I had gotten the whole time, and it was too much! She was psycho. She reminded me of the mom from The Goonies. Anyway, I said to her as she very begrudgingly went into her register to give me a new dollar, "Someone has had way too much coffee. And, you just lost your tip. That was very rude." She looked at me and said meanly, "You weren't going to leave one anyway." I immediately asked my parents and my mother-in-law to leave with me right away. I couldn't stand being in there another second with that horrible old woman. How they run that business with her behind the counter is a mystery? Not that this should ever matter, but because I read someone else's experience below, my family and I are white. I'm in my mid 30s and my parents are in their 60s. Why this woman thought I was some young little kid that she could speak to that way and get away with it, I don't know. I gave her a piece of my mind and now I'm telling everyone else. Don't patronize this establishment!! They don't deserve your business. read more

I recently tried Jitters for the first time. When I arrived the woman there was on the phone and from what it sounded like was a personal conversation. She didn't bother to even look at me, I had decided what I wanted and stared at her to let her know I was ready. She then asked "all set?" but was still on the phone, she placed her call on hold and put the phone aside as she prepared my coffee. I was hungry also, and was checking out the pastries she had, but they all looked dried and not fresh at all so I didn't bother. I was surprised at the big space in there. It's very cool looking, very eclectic art work and nice high ceilings, there were couches and chairs to sit in. So I figured, hey why not stay and relax a little since i'm buying an expensive coffee?, might as well get my moneys worth. I removed my scarf and unzipped my winter coat, I tried to make small talk like "wow, this is a very nice place you have here" she completely ignored me, it was so awkward. When I was ready to pay I handed her my card and she seemed do upset I didn't pay with cash. She had to cut her phone call short to free the line. She told whoever she was talking to "uuuggggh let me call you back! I have a card payment" really? dam... I have never felt so unwelcome in a coffee shop. I did not get a "thank you" "come again" or "your'e welcome to stay" she didn't even say goodbye. She must be a very miserable person. I feel sorry for her. After reading some of these reviews, I see that I'm not the only one who had to deal with that woman. I still stayed, I made may way to the couch and called my mom as i enjoyed my coffee. I left and it was another customer who smiled at me and said goodbye. :) I recommend to go here if you want to hang out at a cool looking place, to study or meet with someone for a catch-up coffee, but be prepared to be treated poorly. read more

I moved to joliet 4 years ago and started a job downtown. I was thrilled to find a locally owned coffee shop! The first time I went in with coworkers, I was appalled at the rudeness from the lady behind the counter. Bad day? Jitters is around the corner from the office I was being trained at for my new job. I went there at the recommendation of my boss but was forewarned that the woman behind the counter is not the most pleasant person. While the woman's rude behavior while taking my order did not detract from the quality of the food it did detract from my overall experience. I definitely did not have a horrible experience, the woman did offer me a banana which was kind. There are other places in the vicinity that have just as good food but with better service. It is my understanding that this is kind of a mom and daughter operation, but when mom is pretty unpleasant, wouldn't you drop the mom to attract customers. Just sayin. read more

If you can get by with the green mountain coffee company stickers on the decanters (I'm always a bigger fan of local or in-house roasters), then this is a great coffee house. Meter parking is ample and free before 9am, which worked great for me. The person that was working was polite and quick to make my order. The winner here is the comfort and charm of the inside. Looks to be a rehabbed historic building. Tall ceilings, dark walls, lower lights, and plenty of comfortable seats all around. Including couches that are right out of your mom's house. read more

Jitters is definitely the best coffee place around! They have amazing blueberry muffins. Amazing coffee. I always get the iced caramel macchiato. Never been disappointed. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for-- totally worth it. This is definitely not some Dunkin donuts coffee. The decor is cozy and quiet. The lady who helped me today was very nice and told me to go ahead and have a seat and she'd bring me my coffee when it was ready. Kind of upset they are closed on Sunday's though...
