A TALE OF TWO RESTAURANTS. A very weak fourth star. As you walk in the atmosphere is inviting. The dining room is spacious. Everything is in order and looks clean. I was sat immediately and my waitress took my order as soon as I was ready. Both the hostess and waitress were friendly and competent. Even the silverware was basically spotless. Unfortunately that's where the good news ends. I ordered the steak skillet with diced jalapeños. When it arrived it looked fine. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and inviting. When I took my first forkful it went downhill fast. The steak was cut into unappetizing kibble sized pieces. After eating a few bites I encountered my one and only sizeable piece of green pepper. Curious I took the eggs off the top of the rest of the skillet and then lost my appetite. Before me was a brown mess of ingredients. I order meals with a healthy amount of freshies in order to have something fresh and not too heavy, fatty or greasy. This was all of those. I finished the eggs and pushed brown pile away. SUCH A GOOD START! wasted by poor food. A note about the back of house management: there was a lot of standing around. The white guy with the white hair whom I took to be the owner had a look on his face like he just didn't wanna be there. Don't know if it's RBF but at least try to look like you are happy to see people. I'm just so disappointed. I'm not going to make a recommendation this time. I returned to this restaurant to try one of their specialties, Cinnamon Apple Stuffed Pancakes. I went back a second time because the service was great. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. The service is quick. They were very busy my second trip, service was still quick and the server was very friendly. I didn't have this at my first visit because this dish takes 50 minutes to prepare. This was definitely worth returning for. I ordered the Junior size and it was the size of a 9 inch pie. It tasted like I was eating an apple pie. The restaurant has a huge menu including all flavors and toppings for the waffles, pancakes, French toast and crepes. They also have the standards for breakfast of eggs, potatoes (many types) bacon and sausage. For those watching their diet, they have low cal and a Healthy menu to choose from. They also serve lunch. BEWARE!!! Terrible service! Terrible food! No wonder there was no wait. Our server was Nate. He took our drink orders and brought them back but disappeared. He told us that he'd be right back but my husband had to go find him so he would take our food order. He had no problem taking the food orders of tables that arrived after us though. Once he finally came back to our table he had a major attitude. Cutting us off, speaking fast, ignoring us, rolling his eyes. Showing us that he did not want to be at the table. Someone else brought us our food and she was nice. But the food tasted horrible. We've had the Navajo and Gypsy skillet at Eggheadz in Tinley Park and they were amazing. Here, they were terrible. The Navajo skillet is loaded with onion, barely had any hash browns and the chicken tasted reheated, not fresh. Oh and the pancakes were so dry. When he came by our table to ask how everything was. Clean and decorated nicely. I'd give it 4 if it wasn't the most expensive breakfast option on Weber or around us. Only had two negative experiences in many years. Had an omelet with spinach and feta etc and skirt steak it tasted weird and the next day when I went to heat it up the cheese definitely was giving off a sour smell. The steak was much smaller than it used to be even with the price jumping up several dollars. We went here a lot since they opened but we limit it because of how expensive it is now. I have eaten here a few times and the food is usually good. Sometimes the fruit for the French toast/crepes are very unripe (strawberries) or overly ripe(bananas) and I can't eat them. It's pretty expensive and the service is not great. The people working there always seem grumpy. I called to place an order for pickup and asked if one of their meals had almond extract in it and the lady on the phone immediately and very dismissively said "I have no idea" with no offer to find out for me. Our group of 15 ate there today.ill speak for myself. I ordered Coffee, the Deluxe 1/2 pound burger rare with raw onion, regular fries and soup. The coffee was sub-par and weak. The soup was flavorless. It was cream chicken soup. It was on the salty side for my taste, and I could note the flower in it. There was very little chicken in it -- pseudo microscopic. The French Fries, I like the type, with skin on, however they were cooked way in advance and disappointing. You should be able to cook French Fries to order. The most disappointing of all. Was the 1/2 pound burger. I ordered it rare. The burger came deader than a door nail well done. If we were not with a group of folks I would have shipped it back. What's worse is they looked like prefabricated patties not made fresh. And for the exorbitant prices on the menu, they should definitely should have been freshly made. Not one notch above McDonald's standards. The coffee was so weak and diluted that you could barely note the coffee note to it. And for nearly 4.00, and a little larger than a demitasse cup, it was a bad deal. So. I give the soup a C minus grade, the Burger a D grade, and the fries a D Grade for an overall grade of a D Plus Grade. I could buy prefabricated burger patties and put it in a toaster oven and serve myself cold fries and better coffee from a Keurig coffee maker at home a lot cheaper than going out and blowing 20 smackers and getting worse. I've been trying out all the breakfast places near Bolingbrook and Romeoville area, and this place has been the worst. Food was odd. Hash browns with onions or peppers? Definitely a first time and it was not to my liking. Had to call a staff over to refill coffee, twice. Specialty toast was sour but the ingredients didn't indicate any thing that's sour? Everything would've been okay had it not been for the toast upgrade. We had 1 meal with an upgrade of toast and 2 coffees... Totaled $33 dollars. Ridiculous. When I asked about the +$10 charge the front staff informed me that an half order is only a dollar cheaper than a full order and that the server should of informed me. I love this tasty neighborhood restaurant! I've gone twice now after recently moving into the area and both times I had a pleasurable experience. 1st time - I ordered lunch over the phone and picked it up. The cashier was very pleasant. I ordered soup and a salad and both were good which made me want to return. The parking is free and plentiful as they have a parking lot. My 2nd time, my mom was in town visiting for the New Year holiday so we went in for breakfast on 12/31. It was packed! I guess everyone had the same idea. The host gave out numbers and it moved pretty quickly. My elderly mother liked that they had the plastic dividers between each booth. It made her feel more secure due to COVID. The menu offers many options. Don't let the "waffle" in the name make you think that's all this restaurant has to offer. I had the carrot cake waffle and it was DELICIOUS! I will order it again and again! I added scrambled eggs and bacon. My mom had a whole wheat waffle with blueberries and added eggs over medium and bacon. We were both very pleased. For a breakfast establishment to not be able to accommodate a gluten allergy is pretty disappointing considering a good amount of breakfast food can be gluten free but just needs to be prepared properly. This is the only breakfast joint in the area who refused to accommodate- so go anywhere else for breakfast but here. I asked to speak with a manager or chef, that request wasn't met either. The unwillingness to even check with anyone else was embarrassing on their part, the hostess should really be trained in basic customer service. Bee Brothers is the go-to, we just thought we would mix it up this time. I'd highly recommend Bee Brothers in Romeoville or Honey Field in Lockport if you want incredible food and a place that is accommodating to all. read more
